Guitar Hero: Tested and confirmed PS2 Singstar Mics work[edit]

Guitar Hero: World Tour instrument compatibility with Rock Band 2[edit]

The article says that the GH:WT instruments aren't compatible with RB2. You even have a source, but when I clicked the source, that article says the GH:WT incompatibility with RB2 is only confirmed on the Playstation 3. The Xbox 360 GH:WT instruments work fine with RB2, says the article. But I can't edit the page since it's semi protected (I'm already a member though, maybe not long enough?) I am serious. A Harmonix Rep on the Rock Band forums confirmed it. You don't get more edirect than that. "Satch Boogie" has been reported by at least two sites that had multiple representatives invited to Neversoft to preview the game yesterday, and they've shown screenshots of the score screen with the song title on it. "Satch Boogie"[edit]

I see "Satch Boogie" was deleted again, because a "'random screenshot' on a forum is not a reliable source." I understand being wary of using forum gossip, but I think this should be considered much more solid than idle chatter. The screenshot is not something "random" that just popped up on a forum without any explanation or context. It comes from Scorehero's liveblog (http://www.scorehero.com/liveblog, click replay and scroll to the very end) of an event at Neversoft where prominent members of Scorehero and a few other sites were given the chance to preview the game and release some information with Neversoft's permission. The inclusion of "Satch Boogie" is corroborated by another liveblog from someone at the event (http://community.guitarhero.com/forums/55708/forum_topics/119869#forumposts-1534392, about four or five posts from the bottom). This doesn't seem any less reliable (and, to me, even more solid considering the in-game screenshot) than the sourcing for "Bullet with Butterfly Wings", which only comes from that early Stuff article and was conspicuously not mentioned in the press release announcing "Today" and the Pumpkins DLC. This is an example of one of the bigger problems that faces this article. Currently the setlist is a group of approx. 75 songs glued together from a series of reports, press releases and rumors. At this point, I would like to suggest a split on the setlist. Two tables. One with songs we got OFFICIALLY from Activision. Via press release or direct reports from official Activision events. The second table would be with songs from other sources, which have yet to be confirmed by Activision. A simliar split was performed on the "Upcoming Songs" in Rock Band DLC, which resulted in FAR fewer headaches and far less conflict amoung editors. -- TRTX T / C 15:47, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

← Some suggestions as you're editing this.

  • A similar situation occured with Rock Band 2. Songs were reported to be in the game, and later were not in the official setlist confirmed by HMX. What we did there was include previously reported songs in the original game article. See RB2 for examples.
  • Now that we have an official setlist, it's time to split off List of songs in Guitar Hero: World Tour. When you do this, instead of putting a reference by every song title, only include those song titles which are in this list, and have one reference at the beginning (see List of songs in Rock Band 2 for an example of this). This will produce far less clutter and reduce the number of references (we now have one SOLID reference to cite vs. a number of scattered references).

This should help trim some of the bulk off this article and help make the creation of the song list article that much easier on you. -- TRTX T / C 16:53, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Within the last couple of days I read that vocal tracks will be available for custom songs, but that they will be tracked to a keyboard (or whatever you choose, I suppose) part that can be sung along to during gameplay. minor fix[edit]

in the game play section it says that the game evaluates you from 1 to 5 stars. while I cannot be 100% certain that it will remain true in this version in GH3 the worst score you could get was a 3. when you enter the no fail cheat even if you play no notes you get a 3 star rating. According to that video, put out by Gamestop, anybody who preorders World Tour from a Gamestop store will automatically have all songs unlocked. This, of course, can only mean that they are either packing a separate disc (highly unlikely and would likely upset many players) or they are simply giving out a cheat to unlock all songs. Temporary Drums Incompatibility[edit]

Wii Rock Band Instruments[edit]

It is confirmed that Rock Band Drums, microphones and guitars are not compatible AND do not WORK with Guitar Hero World Tour, although World Tour instruments DO work with Rock band. No, the microphones DO work. Any USB microphone will work. Semi-Protection status[edit]

Should this article stay semi-protected? The game has been out for about 2 weeks and the original reason for the page being put on semi-protection was because of the disputes over the release date and because of people adding songs to the track list that weren't actually going to be in the game. Wii instrument compatibility, availability, false advertising and overpricing[edit]

First, Amazon.com wants $282 ($95 over retail) for the Wii band bundle, and that's the cheapest option available at Amazon. My impression is this is related to a massive shortage of the bundles. I think it's worth mentioning in the article, but I'm not certain. The band bundles for the other consoles are all at standard retail.

Secondly, Activision/Red Octane support says only previous GH controllers are compatible with the Wii version and no other peripherals are compatible. I have tried two different standard USB mics and neither of them worked, so I'm guessing the marketing hype about "any USB microphone" compatibility was a bunch of bullshit. There is an interview with the CEO of Vicarious Visions at IGN where he stated "The microphone however is a wired USB microphone (also Nintendo's recommended approach), so any USB microphone will work." If it's indeed true that some or most USB microphones are not actually compatible with the game, this is also worth mentioning in the article. This all reminds me of the stereo problem with GH3, and the download content that was promised and never materialized. Activision just doesn't care until they get tangled in lawsuits... I just tested the singstar PS2 microphones and they are a no go as well. I tried both usb ports, as well as swapping the mike ports on the usba adapter, as well as 2 resets. Did they ever say otherwise? I don't recall them saying you could use the GHWT drums as a MIDI controller outside of the game. I thought they said all along that what the MIDI port allows is for you to connect another MIDI drum kit to the GHWT kit and then play your MIDI drums in the game -- you can do that with the GHWT drums, and the statement you removed from the article said only this, which is why I will revert that edit. In the first section of the article (gameplay), it claims that during band mode play, all members of the band must do star power movements at the same time to initiate star power, however, this isn't the case as each member of the band can initiate their star power seperatly. Wii drums, notes not "armored" but "accented."[edit]

I have the Wii version of GH:WT, and with the drums, you do not get "armored" notes, but you get "accented" notes which are like "armored" notes, however you do not need to hit the note harder to play the note, but you score more points based on how hard you hit the note. I think that's how it is on all versions of the game. You are never required to hit the drum harder to play the note. "Armored" and "accented" notes are just two different terms for the same thing. There's no difference. TheMolecularMan (talk) 01:20, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed[edit]

I notice this article lists John Devecka's MTV Drumscape as the first music game. I can easily name more than 10 music games that came earlier. Perhaps the most obvious would be PaRappa the Rapper or maybe Karaoke Studio. Either way, I think this statement needs to be qualified in some way. Perhaps it could be changed to say "MTV Drumscape was the first music game to use drums," but we also need some kind of reference for this. -Thibbs (talk) 22:15, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed the dubious tag to a disputed tag because though verifiable, the statement that MTV Drumscape is the first music game is blatantly wrong. To demonstrate this, I am including a few reliable sources which show an earlier date for another earlier music game: Parappa the Rapper (1996).

I would need to dig out my GI that had that article for this claim to see exactly what they said. In the short term, marking the entire section dubious/disputed is probably more harmful than just changing the language until it can be verified, which I have done to remove the "first music game" and just that he previous did MTV Drumscape. --MASEM 23:12, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
