New page reviewer

User:Broc

Adding new pages can bring large value to the encyclopedia, but it is critical that articles are checked shortly after they are created and not months later, so that there is a good chance the editor will still be around to improve the page. That's why I would like to help reducing the backlog.

I have been more active on Wikipedia since a couple months but I have been here since many years, I have created some articles myself of which 2 DYI, and have some experience with AfD.

I started NPPschool but the trainer has been unresponsive ever since I started; as the alternative is learn by doing, I am applying for a trial period as patroller. Broc (talk) 16:40, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

a bit off-topic
@Broc: User:Cassiopeia/NPPSchool/Broc isn't a talk page, so mentions don't send notifications from there. That would be why User:Cassiopeia didn't see your messages. SilverLocust 💬 05:58, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear, that's not true. I should have tested that first. I had misunderstood WP:MENTION's "when someone mentions you on a talk page" as being a requirement (on non-project pages, that is). SilverLocust 💬 06:10, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing that out, but it was specifically requested by the trainer to use that page as communication channel. The message was indeed received as you can see by the entry in User:Cassiopeia/todo. I feel this is a bit off-topic, however. Broc (talk) 06:23, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can remove these four comments if you'd like. (I've collapsed it.) SilverLocust 💬 07:05, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Broc Good day. As I mentioned, I was on 6 weeks holiday and just got back a few weeks ago and swam with many tasks and things to do. To review the assignment do take time and I need to log in a time to do that as it is not an edit I can just add a short sourced content. I apologies for the waiting. Give me a few days and I will review your assignment. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 07:45, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm leaning towards granting a trial period, but I'll wait until you're done NPP school before making a decision. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 17:25, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps WP:PERM/NPP requests should be evaluated independent of NPPSCHOOL status. Else that adds a de facto extra requirement of "completed NPP school" to the criteria. As a graduate of NPPSCHOOL myself, I think NPPSCHOOL is great, but requiring it or waiting on it really does tighten up the criteria a lot. –Novem Linguae (talk) 23:41, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would ask this RfP to be evaluated according to the official criteria. The above courtesy link to the (unfinished) NPPschool can be used as part of the evaluation, together with the usual aspects (AfD/AfC history etc.) Broc (talk) 13:52, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Last month, I was able to get this perm for a trial of one month. I reviewed many new pages, and believe that I can get this perm indefinitely now. Thanks for your consideration. See my draftify log also. – PharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 16:34, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:Zoglophie

I had the AFCH permission last to last month, in which I did a lot of article reviews. I am also an active participant in Afd, where I have decent record. I believe that with my own multiple article creations as well, i understand the relevant policies and am ready for handling the new page review requests. I have currently a privilege of being an Autpatrolled user in Wikipedia. Thankyou. zoglophie•talk• 16:33, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done for a 2-month trial. You are encouraged you re-apply roughly a week before the permission is set to expire. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:47, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:GSS

Hi, I've noticed that my new page reviewer right was revoked due to my inactivity. Now that I'm back and active, I would like to request to have this user right reinstated so I can continue using the tool to review newly created articles when necessary. Thank you. GSS💬 07:19, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There has been a serious accusation made against this user, which I have forwarded to ARBCOM. I would strongly advise against granting this right until it has been investigated. SmartSE (talk) 14:09, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smartse: Has there been a conclusion to the oversighted report at ANI / submission to ARBCOM? I saw the initial report before oversighting, so I'm aware of the situation, but I'd just like to know if the matter is resolved or still pending. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:29, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@@Hey man im josh: ARBCOM replied to me saying that they think the "evidence is not compelling" and there is no need not to give the right. Personally I have some reservations given that this can readily be abused by paid editors and the cost-benefit of granting it should be considered. I'll leave it to others to decide and happy to discuss via email. SmartSE (talk) 10:15, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is a relief. I did not see the report but given it came from an account with zero edits, and I used to know GSS to be a solid anti-spam editor when they were active (although they did not answer my mail, the one time I had asked their opinion ), I was really hoping it was nothing but someone trying to get GSS or getting scammed by someone that used GSS' name. GSS was great and I think will be great. We shouldn't decline their offer to help without compelling reason. — Usedtobecool ☎️ 10:38, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for updating, SmartSE. Well, this is not the first time I've faced such attacks. Since I strongly oppose paid editing and spamming and aggressively deal with spammers, they are unhappy with my return. I suspect they were triggered by one or more of my recent AfC declines or page moves.
@Usedtobecool:, I apologize for missing your request. It might have been because I was inactive and didn't check my inbox. If you still need help, please feel free to send me an email. Thank you. GSS💬 11:00, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Based on the complaint at ANI being oversighted and ARBCOM not believing the evidence to be compelling, I can find no reason not to give this user a trial at least. 2 month trial granted. You're encouraged to re-apply a week before the permission is set to expire. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:38, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I got the automated invitation to apply for NPP, and I'd like to give it a shot. I've read through the linked tutorial, and I have a little experience with adjacent tasks (e.g. I've hit a few hundred articles in the current unreferenced articles drive). — Moriwen (talk) 16:53, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have worked on a range of articles relevant to New Zealand politics, current affairs and history. Notable contributions have included co-governance, Voices for Freedom, biographies such as Hannah Tamaki and Rob Campbell (economist), and various government departments and bills such as Te Whatu Ora and the Russia Sanctions Act 2022. I also regularly update politicians' biographies, current affairs pages such as 2024 in New Zealand, and politics-related pages such as the Sixth National Government of New Zealand. I have also worked on Star Wars and other fantasy related articles such as Young Jedi Adventures, Shadow and Bone and Draft:Mech Cadets. I am familiar with Wikipedia's policies including referencing, impartiality and avoiding conflicts of interests. I am also involved with the New Zealand Wikimedia community. Willing to help out. Doing this in newly formed articles is crucial in deciding which articles should be here, and establishing the articles for future growth.--Esprit15d • talkcontribs 20:55, 22 February 2024 (UTC) Esprit15d • talkcontribs 20:55, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have over 120 new articles under my belt, mostly relating to medieval history, monasteries, saints, and geographical features. I am familiar with the kinds of content that would fall under CSD criteria, since I have experience wikifying new pages and tagging obviously problematic new pages for speedy deletion. Familiar with guidelines on AfC, AfD, notability, and proper sourcing, and also draftifying new articles and rating talk pages using scripts. Would be quite happy to help out with the backlog while being cautious and careful. Also currently a Pending Changes Reviewer. Florificapis (talk) 08:26, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:Maxim Masiutin

My name is Maxim Masiutin, and I would like to submit my application for the new page reviewer role. I have enough edits and days in Wikipedia. I hope I have a good knowledge of content policies and guidelines and experience with quality control processes. Although I have limited but existing experience in page deletion, I'm a pending page reviewer, and I'm also reviewing pages with recent changes. I also have experience in policy-compliant content editing because I nominated a few pages for Good Article nomination; some passed the criteria, and some failed. However, I'm improving the content of the pages that failed and nominate again. I'm not the one who can judge my behavior, but I hope that I have a solid track record of interacting with other editors, including the new editors, in a civil and constructive manner. I have never had any 3RR violations, but I had a 1-hour block in the last 6 months. Still, I hope that this block should not prevent my application from proceeding. I'm interested in becoming a new page patroller, as I feel that each edit, no matter how small, helps with the completion of new articles. Also, I tried getting in touch with Cassiopeia yesterday so I could attend NPP school, but they haven't gotten back to me yet. OpalYosutebito (talk) 23:29, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Responding to a recent call on my talk page, and having read the tutorial, I'd be very happy to help with this. I've been actively editing for a decade, and over the last 5 years been focussing on the merge backlog; when I started, the backlog was about 3 years; it's now 6 months, and so I feel that I can diversify my editing approach to engage with a different, and important, task. While not directly active in many AfD discussions, I've been heavily involved in implementing AfD-merge outcomes, and hence am very familiar with the AfD approach. I'm familiar with page moves, primarily as an adjunct to merges (for example, moving to a joint name in preparation for a merge of two closely-related topics). I'm happy to work on a broad range of topics. Klbrain (talk) 08:23, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'm a very longterm Wikieditor (twenty years, ugh). I recently received an Invitation to join New pages patrol box on my talk page. I think this work looks important and also very backlogged, so I'd like to try to contribute. Much of my work on Wikipedia has involved fixing grammar and coherency issues and checking and finding cites alongside non-English formatting, spelling, and romanisation issues, although I have researched topics and expanded articles. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them, I'm not 100% sure what else I should note here. Ogress 20:59, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I recently received an invitation to participate, and it sounds like fun. As someone who has both created and edited pages (under various accounts) since 2011, I have experienced the joy of a new created page being reviewed and accepted, and the slight irritation of created pages that were "sent back to the drawing board" to be further expanded with reliable sources and additional proof of notability. While the latter may cause brief unhappiness in the short term, the process allowed me the time (and motivation) to create some of my best, well-sourced pages. Looking back, you can definitely see the improvement between the two versions of each of those pages, and understand why they were initially rejected. It would be an honor to share this learned knowledge with others while helping to reduce the backlog by reviewing the work of fellow creators. Cheers.
