@Lohphat: There's a disclaimer at the top of that page stating "This is just a prototype of tag-based navigation on Wikipedia. Visit Wikipedia for the online encyclopedia." It seems to be only one article (from 28 April 2009) with no way to navigate to another article. GoingBatty (talk) 02:05, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are plenty of pages, accessible from [1]. However, it is not possible to edit pages, create new pages, or view page histories. JIP | Talk 17:07, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not everyone likes tag clouds, but I find that quite interesting. Patrolling for tag vandalism in a production system may be a challenge though. ⁓ Pelagicmessages ) 08:01, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Moving a Draft page

Is it possible to move a Draft page created by other editor? How? Is it will be Wikipedia policy violation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ItsL2Mx (talkcontribs)

ItsL2Mx, If you believe that a draft you did not create is ready for submission and has no issues, you may submit it to AFC. It's not typical, but not against the rules, either. As for moving it into mainspace, that would depend on your level of experience. It is always wise to notify the creator of your intentions, in case they want to give you some input.
As I note that you have 9 edits over one day, you definitely lack the experience to be WP:autoconfirmed and make the move. What other Wikipedia history do you have? Please read WP:AFC and Wikipedia:Drafts#Publishing_a_draft--Quisqualis (talk) 04:44, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @ItsL2Mx: As with most things in life, it depends on the details. For example, if you moved Draft:Jithu s to Draft:Jithu S to fix the capitalization, that would probably be fine. However, if you moved Draft:Jithu s to articlespace, that would be inappropriate because the draft has no references. You could also talk with the other editor on their user talk page or the draft talk page. GoingBatty (talk) 04:46, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Fair Use Image Request

Well... I just would like to use image on Disaster Girl, so I clicked "Make a new request" button in Wikipedia:Files for upload page, but it is linked Wikipedia:Files for upload/Wizard, not shows request form. I already uploaded File:Disaster Girl.jpg, how could I request to pass on that? I do not know how to proceed it. Reiro (talk) 07:09, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Reiro: no new upload is needed: the file is already available, so just use it. No additional justification is needed on the file's description page in this case, since the proposed use in the Disaster Girl article is already mentioned. If you wish to use it a different article, you will need to edit the file's description page to add a separate justification: do this using the edit tabs on the description page, just as you would on any page. To actually use the file in the article, add the file syntax [[:File:Disaster Girl.jpg]] to the article. -Arch dude (talk) 14:31, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There was a previous article, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pradeep Rai, but not clear whether this is the same person. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:39, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can view the deleted version. The OP basically copied the lead paragraph of that article into this section. So yes, it's the same person. It seems that the question is likely about why the article is no longer there. And the answer is at the AFD link in the previous comment. ~Anachronist (talk) 18:48, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Committed Suicide" vs. "Died by Suicide"

I believe that I saw that there was a policy in favor of "Died by Suicide" over "Committed Suicide" but I can't find it. Help?Naraht (talk) 13:34, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Unless there's been another RFC since January: It's not policy. See Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)/Archive_164#Discussion_("committed_suicide") - X201 (talk) 13:57, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've found an IP Editor who is blanket changing articles from "Died by Suicide" to "Comitted Suicide", Special:Contributions/24.34.100.64 Other users and myself have asked on the IP editor's talk page, other than that, ideas?Naraht (talk) 14:05, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Five days between being alerted to it. No communication or cessation of edits when told it's wrong. I'd kick it upstairs and ask for admin advice at WP:ANI The RFC urged editors to not "...tendentiously remove "commit suicide"", so the reverse, tendentiously adding it, must also be true. - X201 (talk) 14:49, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Help with edits

Hi, I'm trying to edit the 'digital medicine' entry. It keeps getting refused. Please help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Digitalmedicine1 (talkcontribs) 13:58, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You have made no previous edits from your account. Are you referring to the IP edits which received a warning at User talk:73.27.87.111? --David Biddulph (talk) 14:03, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Digitalmedicine1 Assuming you are talking about recent edits at [2][3], start with talking to the editor who reverted you, Padgriffin. Guidance at this link: WP:BRD. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:08, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Digitalmedicine1: Assuming that you are 73.27.87.111, your first edit to Digital Medicine consisted of a blatant copyright violation (Wikipedia does not allow copy-and-pasting from other sites) and the second edit was a copy-and-paste page move. Both are against policy and were reverted. Padgriffin Griffin's Nest 14:13, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Too hard to edit

You guys have made it too difficult to edit articles. I wanted to add singer to the Clint Eastwood article and the directions make no sense.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Wolfmanmos (talkcontribs)

Wolfmanmos Which directions are you following? Editing an article is not that different from editing this page. You may want to try the new user tutorial. 331dot (talk) 22:10, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wolfmanmos If you don't have the time or inclination to learn how to edit, then just add a section to the article's talk page to request that somebody else make the edit. You must provide a reference to a published source for the information, but don't worry about the format for the reference as long as another editor will have some way to find it.-Arch dude (talk) 22:11, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Hello,

I wanted to update my page but its not allowing me to change my photo and also my name - I am Karan Kundra but have added double "rr" to my last name.

I also would like to update my photo - but not sure how to do that.

I have reviewed the information and not sure who made my page but would like to make updates. Below is my most recently interview with the new last name.

I just found this TOI article from way back in 2016. Off I go to update Karan Kundra. "Karan Kundra changes his name". The Times of India. 30 December 2016. Retrieved 28 July 2021.
Karan, to upload a new photo, you will need to get the copyright holder (usually the photographer, not you) to release it under a free license. Easiest ways are either to have them upload it to Wikipedia Commons, or post it elsewhere online with a clear statement that it's CC-BY-SA or similar. ⁓ Pelagicmessages ) 09:11, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    User-provided translations of foreign terms

One of the current WP:DYK items caught my eye:

"Most Hyped Boxer" sounded like a very strange name for an award. In fact, the citation in the article is in Turkish, and "Most Hyped Boxer" is presumably tr-n / en-3 User:CeeGee's own translation of the Turkish term en dövüşken sporcu. Now of course these sorts of user-translated glosses appear frequently in Wikipedia, so that's presumably not a problem in and of itself. But, while I don't speak Turkish and thus can't comment on the accuracy, no one else seems to have translated it that way and to my ear (no offense intended!) it just doesn't sound like a tonally-appropriate English translation for an official award name.

So my question is - are there any guidelines on this? Are there any situations where a Wikipedian-provided translation ISN'T appropriate (I could imagine this being the sort of area where the Main Page might have a higher standard)? If you do come across one of these translations and think it seems "off," but can't actually confirm that or improve it yourself because you don't speak the relevant language, where and how would be good to bring it up? Thanks. -Elmer Clark (talk) 00:36, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Korean names

Hello! Could someone tell me what the title should be for a draft on Seung Woo Back? And perhaps how to mention the family name in the article? IP user quickly reverts bots

I found [a peculiar IP user] who has in several instances, albeit spaced out by several months, reverted a few bot edits adding Internet Archive links. I [reverted one] on an article I have edited in the past and that needed Archive links (the new ones just redirect to a homepage). This IP hasn't been warned before, so I don't know that it's ready to be reported to WP:AIV yet, but if the IP is making changes to bots this fast I don't know if warnings are needed, or how to word a warning if so. How should I proceed? Thank you! Tonystewart14 (talk) 04:44, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I want to display language selector on the personal toolbar like Commons and Meta

    Language Selector on Wikimedia Commons

Hello. I've seen a language selector on the left-hand side of my personal toolbar on Commons and Meta. So I want to display it in the same position, in the same function, and in the same view as these two wikis. But I couldn't find the code that makes it display(maybe the code is JavaScript code...?). Could you tell me about it? I used a machine translation so perhaps I didn't communicate it well, but please don't hesitate to ask me back if that's the case. Thank you. --TKsdik8900 (talk) 06:34, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It wouldn't work for much besides Meta and Commons, as all other projects have their languages separate from each other. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 06:56, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jéské Couriano: (Thank you for your reply.) This selector changes the language of the project's UI. You can change the language from English to any other languages at Special:Preferences > Internationalisation. --TKsdik8900 (talk) 07:25, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@TKsdik8900: Commons and Meta have multiple languages in the same wiki, meaning both user interface and some of the content by editors is translated. Compare for example https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clementines_(01014)s.jpg?uselang=de and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clementines_(01014)s.jpg?uselang=en. I don't know whether there is a way to get a language selector on every page in a single-language wiki like the English Wikipedia where it would only affect the user interface. Manually adding ?uselang= or &uselang= to the url is easier than changing preferences if you only want to see the current page with another interface language and you know the language code. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:53, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Monegasque / Monégasque

There are some article titles with the spelling "Monégasque" (here) and some with the spelling "Monegasque" (without the diacritic) (here). All categories use the latter spelling (here). Both spellings are in general use, but the article on the Monégasque language consistently uses the diacritic. In such a case, is it desirable to make the spelling consistent across titles by moving pages, or would that cause more harm than good? I couldn't find any guidance on this at MOS:SPELLING because it deals only with national varieties of English, which isn't what this is. Joriki (talk) 09:49, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Joriki: - I'm in favour of using diacritics. We have the technology nowadays so we should use it. I don't see how correcting Monegasque to Monégasque can be seen as unconstructive as long as its in the body of an article and not in a direct quote or reference. Might be worth posting at the talk page of the relevant WikiProject (WP:MICROSTATE) to see what the feeling is about moving articles from a non-diacritic title to one with a diacritic. Mjroots (talk) 12:42, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Joriki: I would recommend a discussion as there are a lot of articles and categories and suggest WP:EUROPE as the WP:MICROSTATE talk page seems to be in active. Whichever is preferred, you could ask at Wikipedia talk:Categories for discussion if it is possible to tag the categories using WP:AWB. TSventon (talk) 12:58, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    @Mjroots: @TSventon: Thanks for your replies. I've posted at WP:EUROPE. Joriki (talk) 06:16, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Joriki:, a minor detail: you haven't searched for Monegasque / Monégasque when they are not at the beginning of the category name, e.g. subcategories of Category:Monégasque sport by decade and Category:Monégasque sport by year. TSventon (talk) 06:40, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    A question about reliable sources

Hello! I have a question about the article https://www.scholarship.edu.vn/trungquoc/wiki/en/Draft:RATESDOTCA. I would be very grateful if you could help me. The article was sent back for revision due to inappropriate links. Quote: "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article-that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject."

I have read a lot of information, but please help me understand: 1) How can I tell if the site I'm referring to is appropriate? There are paid services to check the rating of sites - will this check be reliable in this case? Or is there some other way to tell if I can link to a certain site? 2) A question about the definition of "reliable source". It says here (https://www.scholarship.edu.vn/trungquoc/wiki/en/Wikipedia:Verifiability#Reliable_sources) states that this can be the material itself (an article or a book). But how exactly do I know that it is reliable?

Please help me to understand how to do everything according to the rules. I will be very grateful for your help. Have a nice day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SvetlanaManuilova (talkcontribs) 13:17, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SvetlanaManuilova: It appears you have found a draft article on a Wikipedia mirror site, which duplicates the content of the English Wikipedia with advertising. You can choose to view the English Wikipedia there or here. I don't know what "paid services" you are referring to. Reliable sources have a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy - see Wikipedia:Reliable sources for more information. GoingBatty (talk) 13:37, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Autobiography

Good day, I have an account with wikipedia and would love to have my autobiography on wikipedia. What are the steps involved and how long would it take?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Fajembola (talkcontribs)

Not a good idea. Please read WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. -Arch dude (talk) 14:45, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fajembola Wikipedia is not a place for people to tell the world about themselves. A Wikipedia article about you would need to summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about you, showing how you meet Wikipedia's special definition of a notable person. Most people have great difficulty with doing that about themselves. It is strongly discouraged, though not forbidden. If you just want to tell the world about yourself, you should use social media or a personal website. 331dot (talk) 15:02, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I will add that a Wikipedia article is not necessarily desirable. 331dot (talk) 15:03, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Fajembola: Learning how to use Wikipedia, gathering reliable sources, writing a draft, and having your draft rejected multiple times before it gets approved can take many many months. The steps are at Help:Your first article. GoingBatty (talk) 19:06, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you say "we", Kellisakulm? (How many of you are there?) Incidentally, a quotation from the deleted article: He grew up with cooking in his veins from learning fractions with his Grandma Klink, to spending hours in the dish tank at the family restaurant Klink's on the Lake. -- Hoary (talk) 08:59, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To expand a bit on what Hoary said, Kelisakulm, a Wikipedia article (not just a "page" should be a neutral summary of what sources unconnected with the subject have published about them. Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost entirely interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources. THe sentence Hoary quoted doesn't belong in any encyclopaedia. Please read WP:42, WP:NBIO and, if you think that Klink meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability, WP:YFA. As Jéské Couriano says, if you have any connection with Klink you need to read about WP:COI and make an appropriate declaration. --ColinFine (talk) 10:34, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've checked the article's history and the editor who reverted you left the following message: "I think this is excessive for the lead, this is a botanical article and there is a section that discusses the controversial name." Currently the page already has a subsection "Name" (not to be confused with the section "Names"!) that gives a short explanation of kaffir as a slur, as well as wikilinking it to a page with even more content. If you still think that the article's lede should contain some information about that, I recommend using the talk page or contacting the person who reverted you directly. Your user page is already public. If you meant you wanted to make it an article in the mainspace, that would be a different story, and likely not possible as the text currently stands.
I see that you've also created the page K. Srivatsa Chakravarthy in 2015.

11 is not less than 11, so on the face of it, no. Pro Wordsmiths -- Scam??

    Hello Wiki Team --

Our small company has been working with a company called Pro Wordsmiths that promises to create and submit a Wikipedia page for our brand. It was a couple of thousand dollars and it has now been over a year with very little communication from them. Has anyone else had this experience or have further information?

They told us we can check Wikipedia to prove that our page has been submitted to be approved or denied. Can anyone let me know how to do this?— Preceding unsigned comment added by BobWilliams1979 (talkcontribs)

I don't know anything about the specific company, but please be aware that Wikipedia does not endorse any organizations promising to create articles for pay, and our experience is that a significant proportion of them are scams. Not a single one can guarantee been an article will be accepted, even if it is, there is no guarantee that it won't be materially rewritten or proposed for deletion.--S Philbrick(Talk) 18:38, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What is the name of your company? ‡ El cid, el campeador talk 18:42, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
BobWilliams1979, what my colleagues above say is correct - it is very possible that you have been dealing with a person or company who has done nothing here at all on your behalf, or who has been editing in violation of our policies on editing for pay; their efforts may very well have been deleted a very short time after they made them. If you would be willing to reveal the name of your company, we can investigate. Girth Summit (blether) 18:56, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This company does advertise Wikipedia services on their website [[4]]. I checked the COI noticeboard and there's no record of them. I can't recall if I've ever seen any disclosures from anyone claiming to be from them, so they may very likely be doing UPE. I looked them up on LinkedIn and there are no people associated with their company page, and the address and phone number there doesn't match the one on their web site. Many flags. @BobWilliams1979: Sorry you were scammed by them. You can report them on Trustpilot to protect others in the future. Also, if you don't tell us your company name, we're limited in how much we can advise you about your chances for having an article approved, and more importantly, we won't be able to block this scammer in the future. Nonetheless, if you enter your company name in the "Search Wikipedia" box above and then click on the red link that appears at the top of the search results, you can see the deletion history (if indeed they ever actually did create an article for you). If it's blank, they did nothing. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:48, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bro! You were scammed. Think about it. You paid a company for a Wikipedia article then they ghosted you. That’s the first flag. The second is that with basic research you would have figured out that the best way to get an article on here is naturally based on being notable and numerous sources based on your business history.

Having a Wikipedia article doesn’t always work in your favour either. If something negative happened with your business and it’s notable it will be added to the article as well which could have negative effects.

    I wish you the best. 47.54.46.16 (talk) 22:25, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Image help

    Hi my fellow editors :D...

So last night, I uploaded a new cropped version of the 2012 image of Bakir Izetbegović from this to this. Now, it seems that it's a bit broken haha. When I, for example, open that newly cropped image on the 2014 Bosnian general election article, it looks completely normal, but when I go to his own article, it goes back to the old image, the first one, plus the old image looks elongated and not in "HD" quality. But when I click on that "old" image to open it fully, it goes back to my new, normal looking, cropped version of it. However, when I'm on my mobile phone, the new cropped version of the image looks comepletely normal no matter what article I go on. You can even look in the image's File history on Commons that I had changed it a lot because of this problem. Can somebody please look a bit into this? Organization of the 'What links here' page

How is the Special:WhatLinksHere page organized? It doesn't seem to be purely alphabetical. Why are some pages near the top and others near the bottom? For example, why is Geyser at the top of Special:WhatLinksHere\Waikato River? — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs)  20:01, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mr. Guye. According to the help page at MediaWiki, The "What Links Here" special page orders using the page IDs, meaning it's going by creation date of the pages. Isabelle 🔔 20:12, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mr. Guye: They're sorted by page ID, which is a sequential number assigned to the page when they are created. Why does the start of the list appear to be alphabetical? I think it's because when the project swapped from UseModWiki to the original version of mediawiki User:Conversion script imported the articles in roughly alphabetical order. 192.76.8.91 (talk) 20:20, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How should I structure a nested cite?

I am developing an article that makes multiple references to a number of books. I have therefore listed the books at the end of the article thus (Source B):

    * {{cite book |last1=Griffiths |first1=Denis |title=Locomotive engineers of the GWR |date=1987 |publisher=Stephens |location=Wellingborough |isbn=0-85059-819-2}}

and use {{sfn}} to refer to various pages as required. On one page is a quote from a journal to which I do not have access. Since it is a good book, it has a reference to the original article (though without the title) from which I can construct a reference (Source A):

    * {{cite journal |ref={{sfnref|GWRMagazine|1935}} |title=Unknown article |journal=GWR Magazine |date=1935 |volume=47 |pages=206-207}}

However, since I have not seen the journal, the advice in Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Say where you read it is to state 'Source A cited in Source B'. If I try to do this in my reference section, I get a duplicate error for Source B, as it also exists as a source on its own. If I say 'Source A cited in {{sfn|Griffiths||p=107}}', I get a little number for Source B, and a new set of references at the bottom of the article (under the categories and everything).

    How should I structure this nested cite?--Verbarson (talk) 22:22, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Verbarson: - You don't need to quote your sources' sources. Just quote the book you are using in the usual way. Mjroots (talk) 04:34, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Verbarson:, not sure if User:Mjroots is necessarily correct. He's not wrong either, I don't believe there is a rule written down, so do what you think best. For my part, I figure that if the reader wants to verify that the material is correct, she might well want to go to directly to the source of the material, for any of a number of reasons. I personally just combine the two sources with "cited at", like this (bolded here just for ease of finding):
    * {{cite journal |ref={{sfnref|GWRMagazine|1935}} |title=Unknown article |journal=GWR Magazine |date=1935 |volume=47 |pages=206-207}} cited at {{cite book |last1=Griffiths |first1=Denis |title=Locomotive engineers of the GWR |date=1987 |publisher=Stephens |location=Wellingborough |isbn=0-85059-819-2}}

    llghtchlld Spelling (help)

    Hello,

My name is Alex, and I am llghtchlld's assistant, and also the person who created the page for llghtchlld. (I hope I'm posting in the correct place for the help desk this time!)

I was wondering if it was possible to change the main title of llghtchlld's Wikipedia page to the correct spelling. (with the i's as l's) This spelling of the i's replaced with l's is not a stylization, it is the actual spelling of llghtchlld's name, and it is the way that her name is spelled throughout her online presence. The purpose of this was to be distinct from other artists with the name "Lightchild".

I know that Wikipedia has very strict policies when it comes to spelling and formatting, but please let me know if it is possible to make this spelling correction, and avoid confusion surrounding her name online.

Mnmh. I'm not sure that it isn't a stylization. "llghtchlld" looks like an affection to me, and isn't formed as English words (and names) are, and is thus

    Warmly,

Alex — Preceding unsigned comment added by loveisthevision (talkcontribs) Loveisthevision (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

Hi User:Loveisthevision. No it's probably not possible, but you can try if you want, and you never know, I could be wrong. The procedure for this is to go to Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting a single page move (we call renaming a "move" here) and follow the instructions.
Pretty sure your request won't be accepted. I'm not sure that it isn't a stylization. "llghtchlld" looks like an affectation to me, and isn't formed as English words (and names) are, and is thus unpronounceable. Even Welsh words that start with a double-L have a vowel right after. If it's still pronounced "lightchild" them I'm pretty sure it's a stylization. It also starts with a lower-case letter which we don't do except in special cases, at least for article titles.
Yes for bell hooks and eBay etc we make exceptions. Because those entities are famous, thus their name appears in many sources, which mostly use their stylizations, thus the reader will expect that.
For less famous sources, not so much. IMDb does have "llgtchild" but Deadline has "Lightchild". Some people use a stylization that a fair amount of sources don't follow, so we don't either. This person appears to not have enough sources to even make a fair survey. That's my take. Others may disagree. Herostratus (talk) 05:46, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Article names should be the form of the subject's name that's most usual in English-language sources. The wishes of the subject are irrelevant. Of the four sources cited in the article, the first use both versions, the second uses neither, the third and fourth both use "Lightchild". So "Lightchild" is the appropriate name for the article. The List of Rice University people is a list of notable people who have attended, you do not have an article about you so would not be considered notable. Theroadislong (talk) 14:22, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Charles W Taylor Jr: you may or may not be notable. The notability guidelines for academics are a fairly high bar: see WP:NACADEMIC. If you meet these guidelines, someone (preferably not you: see WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY) could write a Wikipedia article about you. If such an article existed, it could be added to that list. In the past, someone might have added you to the list if they felt that an article about you was warranted even if that article did not yet exist, but we have moved away from that practice.-Arch dude (talk) 15:47, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have no personal interest in this topic, but I wonder if appointment to the Senior Executive Service (United States) is in itself sufficient to confer notability? If so, someone (not the subject, preferably, and not me) could create a valid article and wikilink it to the Rice list.
For the benefit of Charles W Taylor Jr, we should explain that we do not accept or require copies of Primary documents such as certificates to verify such matters; what we would require is a published, independent secondary reliable source (such as mention in a Government journal or similar) of the appointment. It's helpful if such sources are online, but not essential – so long as they can be consulted in, say, a good library, citation of their bibliographical details are sufficient.
Of course, any article would require other reliable sources in addition to this, since nearly all material in such an article needs to be cited to them. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.122.57.208 (talk) 21:56, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Article Edit?

Dear Wikipedia, I am not good with computers/Internet. I’m at Wikipedia article NNS Thunder (F90) - Wikipedia. It’s the Wikipedia USCGC Chase page/article. (For clarity, the US Coast Guard Cutter Chase was transferred to the Nigerian Navy in 2011 as the “NNS Thunder” and that’s the name of the ship that comes up when you go to the USCGC Chase Wikipedia article.) I was a crewmember in the 1970s. On this Wikipedia page/article, in the ship’s “history” section for the 1970’s, there is an omission/discrepancy from the official US Coast Guard USCGC Chase history from which it seems most of the Wikipedia article is taken from.

The existing Wikipedia paragraph of concern is the 4th paragraph down from the heading that reads “Vietnam and the 1970s” which reads; “Between 1974 and 1978, Chase continued to patrol the waters of the Atlantic. Chase visited Spain, Morocco, Ireland, and France.”

But, on the official Coast Guard website ship’s history page, under the heading “Cutter History”…4th paragraph down), i.e. Chase, 1968 (WHEC 718) > United States Coast Guard > All (uscg.mil)……..http:www.history.uscg.mil/Browse-by-Topic/Assets/Water/All/Article/2090238/chase-1968-whec-718/. That equivalent US Coast Guard 4th paragraph reads:

In 1973, Chase also participated in Operation Seaconex, an exercise with a screen of seven destroyers and an amphibious assault ship, helicopter (LPH) carrying anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopters and Harrier vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) jets protecting a convoy from air, subservice and surface threats. Between the years of 1974 to 1978, Chase continued to patrol Atlantic and Mediterranean waters. In 1976, while on a cadet cruise, Chase was ordered to join operation Fluid Drive and, along with the attack carrier America and landing ship dock Spiegel Grove, evacuated American nationals from the beach after the assassination of two U.S. officials in Beirut, Lebanon. In 1977 Chase was among the cutters assigned to protect a part of the U.S. exclusive economic zone (EEZ) created as a result of passage of the Magnuson-Stevens Fisheries Conservation and Management Act, protecting the area from Cape May, New Jersey to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina from foreign encroachment.' The above is the exact excerpt copied and pasted from the official US Coast Guard source: Chase, 1968 (WHEC 718) > United States Coast Guard > All (uscg.mil).

So, an accurate Wikipedia edit of record in conjunction with the official C.G. Chase website page, http:www.history.uscg.mil/Browse-by-Topic/Assets/Water/All/Article/2090238/chase-1968-whec-718/....would read: Between the years of 1974 to 1978, Chase continued to patrol the waters of the Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean. Chase visited Guantanamo Cuba, Spain, Morocco, Ireland, France, England and Italy. In 1976, while on a cadet cruise, Chase rendezvoused with and came under the command of the attack carrier USS America and was involved in Operation Fluid Drive during The Lebanon Crisis of 1976 which ultimately resulted in the evacuation of nationals from the beach after the assassination of two U.S. officials in Beirut, Lebanon by the landing ship dock Spiegel Grove In 1977 Chase was among the cutters assigned to protect a part of the U.S. exclusive economic zone (EEZ) created as a result of passage of the Magnuson-Stevens Fisheries Conservation and Management Act, protecting the area from Cape May, New Jersey to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina from foreign encroachment. @Bknp1: Thank you very much for pointing out these discrepancies. We are all volunteers, and the help desk denizens may not be the best folks to correct the article. I suggest that you try to edit the article yourself. Yes, I know it's scary, but be bold (WP:BOLD). If you mess it up, the worst that can happen is that you will be reverted. You have just as much responsibility and authority for that article as the rest of us. Just do it! But if all else fails, put a message on my talk page and I will try to help. -Arch dude (talk) 23:24, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
