I’m not proud to have to ask this, but can someone tell me how exactly you log in on a desktop with the new format? I can not find the login button on the list that comes up, and the only thing now visible is the create account button, but I’ve been here nearly 20 years at this point so I don’t need an account. It’s likely some stupid thing that I haven’t thought of, but I don’t have time to think it through at the moment, and not being able to check watchlists is bumming me out. Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)
    • For other types of questions, use the search box, see the reference desk or Help:Contents. If you have comments about a specific article, use that article's talk page.
    • Do not provide your email address or any other contact information. Answers will be provided on this page only.
    • If your question is about a Wikipedia article, draft article, or other page on Wikipedia, tell us what it is!
    • Check back on this page to see if your question has been answered.
    • For real-time help, use our IRC help channel, #wikipedia-en-help.
    • New editors may prefer the Teahouse, a help area for beginners (but please don't ask in both places).

Correct the reference of Sandy Neilson

I need help for Sandy Neilson for her reference of Olympedia. Can you fix the right correction. 100.2.114.167 (talk) 02:36, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    help me

Please help me with... in the article Conversion of non-Hindu places of worship into temples, the first reference itself is contradicting what is written in this article and the example of Durga temple in Aihole, India is contradictory to its own Wikipedia article. Trsuyash (talk) 06:17, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trsuyash. When you encounter issues like this, it's usually best to try and fix them yourself. When reverted, as happened to you, the next step is to bring the issue up for discussion at the article talk page, Talk:Conversion of non-Hindu places of worship into temples. Use WIkipedia content for my website

Hi, I would like to ask you if i am allowed to use wikipedia's content and images for my website. 2405:6E00:31E5:4F00:852B:192A:10C5:1336 (talk) 07:07, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Reusing Wikipedia content. The general answer is often yes, if you do it right. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:12, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    User blocked

Was it really necessary to block User:Anonymous Elementary Schooler for a name violation? The name looks fine to me. I don't know where else to ask this -- UAA doesn't seem quite right. David10244 (talk) 10:02, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

David10244 I would first ask the blocking admin directly; if the answer is not adequate, the next forum would be WP:AN. It is curious that their TPA was removed but the block is only a soft block(the blocked person may create a new account). 331dot (talk) 10:06, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot Yes, that TPA thing is odd. I'll ask the blocking admin. David10244 (talk) 10:09, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
David10244 Assuming that "Elementary School" is what I'd call a primary school, this suggests that either a child has chosen a user name which unnecessarily reveals their age, or an adult is masquerading as a child. Either should raise a concern, although whether WP rules are broken is another thing. Bazza (talk) 10:11, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, that's what I'd have said as well. We routinely suppress identifying information about minors for their own protection (usually pointing them to Wikipedia:Guidance for younger editors). In this case, it's the username that identifies the user as a very young child – or, if it's not a child, it could be a predator – and, so, in my opinion, it's perfectly justifiable to block them without TPA, so that they absolutely cannot use their account and need to select a new one, hopefully one with a less identifying username... Salvio giuliano 10:15, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I wouldn't question a softblock, TPA might have been a bit much unless something has been oversighted that I don't know about. The admin knows what they are doing, so a message is likely the best course of action. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 10:18, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for all of the answers. I think the oldest elementary school kids (in the US) are about 10 years old, so that's kinda young to be revealing your age, even at the top end of elementary. David10244 (talk) 14:46, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

how do i put a navbox in the middle of my user page?

I have been trying to put some custom navboxes in the upper portion of my user page, which would place them next to some userboxes which run down the right side of the page.

every time I try to do so, the navboxes seem to be automatically displayed below the userboxes. I tried changing the navboxes' width, but it didn't seem to help.

I placed the navboxes in a collapsible box, which does seem to work fine in displaying next to the stack of user boxes. however, is there a way to enable navboxes to be displayed next to user boxes? I appreciate any help. thanks! Sm8900 (talk) 13:09, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Error message in a number of pages in Basque in wikipedia

The templates {{Cycling race/infobox|Qxxx}} as well as {{Cycling race/generalclassification|Qxxxx}} do not work since the end of last week. They worked fine beforehand and they still do in other languages, but not in Basque.

Now this message error is displayed: "Luanda errorea in Modulu:Cycling_race at line 1980:attempt to index field 'BasqueTown' (a nil value)".

Some examples can be found in the Basque version of entries:

    • 2022 Tour of the Basque Country
    • Deutschland Tour

    Any clues? Joseba65 (talk) 13:30, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest you also post this at Village pump, on the "technical" tab. Sm8900 (talk) 13:38, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's a question you'll need to ask at the Basque Wikipedia. This help page is for the English Wikipedia. Templates are maintained separately in each language's Wikipedia. As you will realise from the red links in your message, neither Template:Cycling race/infobox nor Template:Cycling race/generalclassification exist in the English Wikipedia. - David Biddulph (talk) 13:44, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to create a "reading list" and/or save Wikipedia articles - using the desktop application?

Hi I use WikiPedia on my phone and use the the "Save" article feature a lot. I also have created Reading Lists of articles, based on subject or topic. How do I do this on the web browser version of WikiPedia? I can't seem to find it. Thanks. AnnieMyco (talk) 16:29, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AnnieMyco The feature you describe is only available on the mobile version/app. You can bookmark articles in your browser on your end, but this will not carry over into the app(though it may carry over to the browser on your phone if it's the same as the one on your computer). 331dot (talk) 16:46, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AnnieMyco: As far as I'm aware the mobile app is the only version that has reading lists. You could set up a watchlist and click on the near the top of a page to save it to the list. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:46, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Watchlisted articles will only show up in the list if edits are made to them. 331dot (talk) 16:48, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That isn't correct; the default page in the watchlist is for edits that have happened in a certain timespan, but clicking "View and edit watchlist" brings up the entire watchlist regardless of edit history in alphabetical order, separated by namespace. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:50, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Too bad! II LOVE that ability to organize my favorites. also, I have a "work" wikipedia profile and a "personal" profile, and the app is for my personal profile. Next question: How do I make a suggestion for the desktop version . AnnieMyco (talk) 16:58, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AnnieMyco, you could make a proposal at the Community Wishlist Survey, here. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 17:51, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I was aware only that but didn't put two and two together. Thank you 331dot (talk) 17:49, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
AnnieMyco, you can manually create User:AnnieMyco/Reading list and populate it with wikilinks to articles or any other pages. Cullen328 (talk) 19:19, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How would I cite this journal article?

    https://pubs.er.usgs.gov/publication/b1359 doi:10.3133/b1359

"Geology and Mineral Resources of the Northern Part of the North Cascades National Park, Washington". 1972. doi:10.3133/b1359. {{cite journal}}: Cite journal requires |journal= (help) (autofilled reference)

Staatz, Mortimer Hay; Tabor, Rowland W.; Weis, Paul L.; Robertson, Jacques F.; Van Noy, Ronald M.; Pattee, Eldon C. (1972). "Geology and Mineral Resources of the Northern Part of the North Cascades National Park, Washington". USGS Numbered Series (Bulletin). 1359. U.S. Geological Survey. doi:10.3133/b1359. (what I came up with, but I'm not sure if it's right)

    BhamBoi (talk) 01:00, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BhamBoi: It looks good to me. The goal of a cite is to identify the source sufficiently so any interested reader could find the source even without a URL. -Arch dude (talk) 13:51, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BhamBoi That's a slightly unusual example. Normally using the WP:Citation expander gadget, I can get details like the author list done automatically based on just the doi but for that reference it only gives "Geology and Mineral Resources of the Northern Part of the North Cascades National Park, Washington". 1972. doi:10.3133/b1359. {{cite journal}}: Cite journal requires |journal= (help) where I've added |doi-access=free to the {{cite journal}} template so that the rendered citation automatically gives a link associated with the title and I don't need a separate |url= parameter. Your second version is an improvement but could be even better. The journal article is a 132-page report, stored as a 141-page .pdf. You are using it to back a statement in Hannegan caldera article and (for example) you could help the reader by having the .pdf open at a specific page of that document which you believe is the best place for them to start reading. So "Geology and Mineral Resources of the Northern Part of the North Cascades National Park, Washington" (PDF). 1972. doi:10.3133/b1359. {{cite journal}}: Cite journal requires |journal= (help) would be one possibility that will open at page 2 of the report (page 10 of the .pdf) — and of course you could add the authors etc. of your longer citation too. Help about publish my biography as embassy

How can I publish my biography, being my project an embassy for entrepreneurs? 2001:1308:2CA9:F400:C922:631F:A3D4:501 (talk) 11:14, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to write a WP-article about yourself, take the time to read Wikipedia:Autobiography and Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. The short answer is that you probably can't, but if you meet the demands of WP:N it may be possible. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:48, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Quotations in different colors

I like using quotes on talk pages because they make my arguments easier to follow. I sometimes use Template:talkquote for this. I am finding myself referencing both comments from the talkpage and sources. Is there a way I can color different quotes differently, preferrably using a standard template? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Talpedia (talkcontribs) 14:20, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Talpedia. Template:Talk quote block says that it takes a parameter style, and says

    (see the testcases)

. (See what I did there?). {{tq}} does not appear to provide this option. ColinFine (talk) 15:40, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Talpedia Please remember MOS:CONTRAST to ensure everyone can clearly see text; and MOS:COLOR to ensure that people who can't distinguish colours are still able to understand what your scheme means. Bazza (talk) 11:17, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request for feedback of new article draft

Hi there. I am currently editing a new Wikipedia article in my sandbox, Tarek Hassan. Would it be possible for other editors to give me feedback for improving it before I move it to mainspace? Thanks a lot. Janeender (talk) 15:05, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's reasonably well written and cited. The main concern is conflict of interest. Are you in some way linked to the subject of the article, or have you been asked/paid to do it? Please bear in mind that Wikipedia articles are not like LinkedIn profiles, and once in mainspace, anyone could edit it.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 15:09, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Janeender: You get feedback on a draft by moving it into draft space (in this case Draft:Tarek Hassan) and submitting it. You submit it by adding this syntax to the top of your draft: {{subst:submit}}, and then clicking on the "submit" button that this template will add to your draft. A reviewer will move it into main space when it is accepted. All of this is ordinarily done by starting at WP:YFA, which is why it seems complicated when you just start in your sandbox. But it's OK either way.-Arch dude (talk) 15:25, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Correct template for a range of time at month/year precision

Hi there! I'm experimenting with parsing dates from Wikipedia (using the dump), and have been correcting malformed date templates as I go along. However, I'm not sure which date template to use to describe a range of time with month/year precision.

For days, I can use Template:Start and end date, like so: January 23, 2020 – April 28, 2021 (2020-01-23 – 2021-04-28). However, this does not work if the days are elided: {{Start and end date|2020|01||2021|04|}} results in an error.

For my existing edits, I've been using Template:Start date and Template:End date with a dash separating them, like so: January 2020 (2020-01) - April 2021 (2021-04) or 2020 (2020) - 2021 (2021). This works and renders reasonably correctly, but it doesn't convey the same semantic information. Is there a more appropriate template I can use for this?

Thanks in advance! Philpax (talk) 16:01, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The answer was Template:date range, which does support optional days. Philpax (talk) 00:32, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Changes

I have noticed that many pages are being so called protected to "prevent Vandalism" but this goes against freedom of speech If i have to add certain aspects to a glorified personality with evidence then denying me the ability to do so goes against the very philosophy of Wikipedia By terming contrary opinions as "vandalism' ab initio the site no longer remains a democratic platform — Preceding unsigned comment added by Osalil (talkcontribs) 16:09, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Osalil You are confusing WP:VANDALISM, which is specifically (and only) those edits made by someone who knows they are damaging the encyclopaedia with edits which cite a reliable source which states one or other opinion about a topic. Unfortunately, articles which require protection against vandalism may, as a side-effect, make it more difficult for some editors to add material. However, you can always make {{edit request}}s on the article's Talk Page. Note that you don't have "free speech" here: Wikipedia doesn't care about the views of individual editors, it only cares about what can be verified in already-published sources. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:53, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Osalil: Yes, protection interferes with non-disruptive editing. We use it because disruption (vandalism) interferes even more. If you are ever told that one of your edits is vandalism, and you disagree, then raise the issue on the talk page. You (and the other editor) are not supposed to be concerned with "opinions" at all. You are supposed to be adding statements that are referenced to reliable sources. -Arch dude (talk) 17:28, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Osalil "goes against freedom of speech". Wikipedia does not grant editors freedom of speech -- that is not part of its philosophy. See Free Speech.
Here is a snippet: "The First Amendment [to the US constitution] forbids government censorship of expression; it does not prevent a public charity such as the Wikimedia Foundation from deciding for itself what words and images will be presented on its websites, and how."
There is more info at that link about "editing restrictions" on Wikipedia articles. David10244 (talk) 08:37, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That new sizing toggle thingy does (almost) nothing

I wrote this in a related thread a few days ago; I think it got lost. So let me raise it again, in its own thread.

That new sizing toggle thinky in the lower right does--almost--nothing. It certainly doesn't change anything about articles. The ONLY thing I've seen is, if there's a particularly long table of contents, there's a scroll bar between the table of contents and the article; the toggle thingy moves that scroll bar right and left by a fraction of an inch. It slightly changes the wrap of the TOC--longer and a little narrower or shorter and a little wider--but that's all that I can see.

    I use a Mac and a Windows PC; it's exactly the same. Uporządnicki (talk) 18:21, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm using a 22.5 inch screen (1920x1080 pixels), with Wikipedia using Vector 2022. When I click that toggle, it switches between the narrow V2022 column width (~9.5 inches) and a wide more-like-V2010 column width (~14.5 inches). Are you already using a wide column width, or are you using a narrow monitor (though on my narrower laptop screen I don't get the toggle)? -- Verbarson  talkedits 16:56, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Dante Leon Disambiguation Page

I am planning to turn Dante Leon into a Disambiguation Page. I will be adding an article about another Dante Leon who is a martial artist.

What is the process to do this?

    -04:42, 29 January 2023 (UTC) Imcdc Contact 04:42, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Imcdc: First, create your new article Dante Leon (martial artist) and let it sit awhile to make sure it will not be contested and deleted. Then, move the existing Dante Leon to Dante Leon (wrestler). This move will leave a redirect in place at the old name. Now you can edit that redirect to turn it into a disambiguation page. Use another disambiguation page about a human name as a worked example (e.g. John Palmer), including the {{hndis}} template at the end. finally, create a redirect named Dante Leon (disambiguation) to point to Dante Leon. -Arch dude (talk) 05:35, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a list of articles based on content

I would like to get a list of all Wikipedia articles that are not about people or places, is this possible, and if so, what would be the best way to go about this? Jordanisanerd (talk) 07:56, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jordanisanerd Such a list would be in the millions and difficult to manage- maybe your best bet is starting with Category:Main topic classifications. 331dot (talk) 08:02, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    See also Wikipedia:Contents. Shantavira|feed me 09:50, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jordanisanerd: Each Wikipedia article is associated with an object in the database of our sister project Wikidata. These objects are in turn linked to (related to) other objects: its a relational database. The database can be queried to generate reports such as the one you want. Constructing a database query at first appears to be intimidating, but in fact you can learn to do it quite quickly. Start at d:Wikidata:Main page or maybe at d:Wikidata:Data access. The huge advantage of this is your ability to refine your query to zero in on the subset that you really want.-Arch dude (talk) 19:17, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Request for a deleted article

The article is [[The Abolitionist Wedding of Theodore Weld and Angelina Grimké]]. I wrote it. It was deleted 2-3 years ago. I want to see if I can salvage something of it. Thank you. deisenbe (talk) 11:34, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The deletion discussion was at WP:Articles for deletion/The abolitionist Weld–Grimké wedding. The outcome was "redirect", so the previous version is still there in the history of the redirect The abolitionist Weld–Grimké wedding. Consult sources of Chinese metro population data

hi,I can't the sources of Chinese metro population data for example, the metro population of Shenzhen is 23,300,000,but I can't find the exact source, can u give me the reason?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shenzhen JeanLee23 (talk) 11:53, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, JeanLee23. That figure of 23,300,000 is cited to here, but that does not seem to confirm the data. I thought perhaps that somebody had altered the figure since it was first inserted, without updating the reference; but that does not seem to be the case. Editor Batternut appears to have added the figure and the reference in this edit in 2017. Batternut seems to be still active, and I've pinged them here, so maybe they'll come and explain where the figure came from.
Generally, the talk page of the article is a better place to ask about specifics in an article. ColinFine (talk) 12:36, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was able to verify. On the 39th page of the linked PDF is a table with populations of cities including Shenzhen as of 2010. Shenzhen's 'total population' is 23.3 million, and its 'urban population' is 21.7 million. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 14:25, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're quite right. I didn't notice that the two columns in the table were the FUAs in one column and the cities in the other, so I'd only noticed Shenzhen in the second column. Thanks ColinFine (talk) 15:10, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. But data for other cities confused me.
For example, the metro population of Beijing is 22,366,547, but Beijing‘s 'total population' from PDF is 24.9 million.
Are the two sources of data different? JeanLee23 (talk) 02:30, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Potential disruptive editing on Ukraine article

An entry made about events 26 Jan has been re-written entirely. The editor has deleted much important information (the context of this strike for example), the English is unacceptable and the terms now used indicate not that events happened, but that officials in Ukraine say that events happened. I've asked on the talk page for the deleted material to be reverted, the editor has returned but not reverted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022–2023_Russian_strikes_against_Ukrainian_infrastructure#2023 It looks as if the protection on this page may have changed. Can someone please see if they agree with me that this is not acceptable editing and help with the way forward. Thanks. Thelisteninghand (talk) 14:40, 29 January 2023 (UTC) Looking further at the article it appears there has been a great deal of trimming going on, and a lot of unacceptable English throughout. Upsetting because I have spent hours correcting bad English only to see it mangled again. Thelisteninghand (talk) 15:37, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why does Wikipedia log me out every time I go to the Commons or anywhere else?

This happens even though I have checked to keep me logged in for a year. My password is hard, and this is a bother not worth doing most of the time. Krok6kola (talk) 15:20, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You should be centrally logged in across Wikimedia projects. I don't know why this isn't working. In general, you cannot assume that logging in on a single Wikimedia project automatically logs you in to the others. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 16:48, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Check the checkbox saying Keep me logged in when logging in to the relevant project, this should help. -- StarryNightSky11 02:47, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Simplifying Community Portal

I feel like the community portal page is very, very complicated. I would like to try to redesign it and maybe share it and see if people think it’s an improvement on Wikipedia. Maybe someone knows like, if you can fork wikipedias code, modify it, submit as a pull request, and see if people think it’s an improvement? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.123.160.214 (talk) 15:22, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Community portal is a wiki page. You can copy its contents into a sandbox. This is much easier it you first create an account, so the sandbox can be a sub-page of your user page. Please remove the categories in your copy: you can put them back if your page ever becomes the official page. However: Wikipedia is a collaborative project. You should almost certainly start by opening a discussion on the page's talk page at Wikipedia talk:Community portal. Note that although the page is a Wiki page, it uses a great deal of raw HTML, so you will need to use both unless you truly intend to start over from scratch. -Arch dude (talk) 16:19, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In this diff, a talk page's archive link was changed after the talk page and its article were moved. Where is the link to the archive? I can't find one anywhere, either in that version of the page or the current version. All I see are wikiproject links, pageviews, section sizes, and general policy links that aren't particularly related to this page, such as Seek dispute resolution if needed. 192.180.91.15 (talk) 16:22, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

PS, I've found Talk:List of school shootings in the United States (2000–present)/Archive 2 (simply by guessing), but Talk:List of school shootings in the United States (2000–present)/Archive and Talk:List of school shootings in the United States (2000–present)/Archive 1 don't exist. Why would there be a 2 without a 1: just a mistake, or is there a good reason? 192.180.91.15 (talk) 16:24, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I found that archive 2 link by using "What links here" on the current Talk Page. It would seem that something has gone wrong, so I'm alerting Aidan9382, who made the edit you linked, in the hope they can help. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:31, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's been fixed by PrimeHunter..... thanks to him and to you, IP editor for pointing it out. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:35, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed it by moving the old archives. counter = 2 in archiving instructions means that future archiving will be made to archive 2 until it's full and then 3. The talk page template making archive links first looks for archive 1 and stops if it's not found. Before the fix there was no archive 1 at the current title. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:39, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies there - when I was fixing these quite a bit back, I was unaware of the previous pages moving, and so didn't really apply fixes properly. I've been doing them properly recently, but I haven't found the time to go back through my contribs and fix my old mistakes among all the others. Sorry! Deleting a file

I have a file that I published and I am wondering how to delete it. Can you please help Dean Symonds (talk) 16:27, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you recently uploaded it, and it's unused, tag it with {{db-g7}} and an administrator will delete it. 192.180.91.15 (talk) 16:28, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Dean. I see that you nominated the file for deletion on Commons, so that should disappear shortly.
I see you are taking the right steps to protect yourself, but if you haven't already read advice for younger editors, I advise you to do so. ColinFine (talk) 19:19, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    File talk:Elbert Benjamine AKA C. C. Zain.gif

Hello, I recently learned that there is no entry pertaining to Elbert Benjamine only a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_talk:Elbert_Benjamine_AKA_C._C._Zain.gif and a request to start a discussion. I don’t know what ‘start a discussion’ means. Elbert Benjamine died 70 years ago and is unknown so there is no one who can discuss him. His page can be improved by having his life story available for people to read and I would like to do this. I would be grateful if you could tell me what to do without having a meaningless discussion. The Gemini kid (talk) 01:02, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, The Gemini kid. You have started a discussion. This person is covered in Church of Light. I suggest that you begin by adding well-referenced content to that article. Cullen328 (talk) 01:11, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi The Gemini kid. There actually was a Wikipedia article about C.C. Zain that was WP:MERGEd into the article about the Church of Light as a result of the WP:CONSENSUS established at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/C. C. Zain. The main reason for that seems to have been that it couldn't clearly be established that Zain satisfied Wikipedia:Notability (people) for a stand-alone article to be written about him; so, content about him was incorporated into the article about the church. If you feel something has changed and that Zain is now clearly Wikipedia notable, you might first want to discuss the possibility of creating an article about him at Talk:Church of Light to see what some others might think. If the consensus is that a stand-alone article about Zain is now OK because he's clearly Wikipedia notable, there's really no need to start from scratch since part if not all of the original article can probably be restored. Any new content and sources that are found can then be incorporated as needed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:24, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    New format help on desktop

I’m not proud to have to ask this, but can someone tell me how exactly you log in on a desktop with the new format? I can not find the login button on the list that comes up, and the only thing now visible is the create account button, but I’ve been here nearly 20 years at this point so I don’t need an account. It’s likely some stupid thing that I haven’t thought of, but I don’t have time to think it through at the moment, and not being able to check watchlists is bumming me out. 2600:1011:B14C:3627:D866:6799:7A51:C006 (talk) 02:47, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
