Greetings! Expert help is needed to fix the last batch of incoming links to the disambiguation page, New music. Any help would be much appreciated! bd2412 T 22:22, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Pablo Casals

I am writing to inform you that there is currently a request for comments on Talk:Pablo Casals in which some users of this project might wish to participate. 131.111.185.66 (talk) 22:49, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Drum corps articles

Hello, I am interested in improving the articles concerning modern drum corps, but unfortunately, it looks like both WikiProject Drum Corps and WikiProject Marching band are pretty much dead. It seems like particularly the tone and style of the articles covering individual drum corps need to be cleaned up, and the format of the articles themselves needs to be standardized. Any suggestions or help for me would be wonderful! Gamma Metroid (talk) 03:36, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Barto (band)

Hi, need help establishing notability of Barto (band). There are no references in the article. The one other piece of information that you should have, is this article at the Russian Wikipedia. Thank you! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:02, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

"Bad"

There's a bit of a dispute at Bad (Michael Jackson song) over a date.

  1. This documentary says the video was filmed in 1986.
  2. The article itself says the song was recorded in January 1987, but this claim is unsourced.
  3. This Allmusic link says the album was recorded between January and July 1987.

Which date is right? And where could I find sources verifying either date? Googling "Michael Jackson" "Bad" "January 1987" turned up only Wikipedia mirrors and false positives. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 06:20, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

I haven't read any of them, but is there a chance it might be found in Jackson's Moonwalk or one of his biographies? Richard3120 (talk) 15:27, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Reliable resource for album release dates

Hiya, is there a reliable resource that y'all use for confirming album release dates? I removed a bunch of album release dates at VeggieTales here because they were unsourced, were frequently changed by numerical vandals, and because I can't find any consistency between Discogs, AllMusic, Amazon, etc. Thanks for your guidance, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:54, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi guys. I just wanted to let you know that I just created the article for "Orelsan et Gringe sont les Casseurs Flowters", the debut studio album by Casseurs Flowters, but the content is very minimal. I don't specialize in music articles but I've pretty much laid the groundwork. Just asking if you could come in and improve the article by adding content. Thanks. Fescal

Hi WikiProject Music, extra eyes would be appreciated at Fescal. The article was nommed for AfD, a brand new SPA has sprung up and has removed cleanup templates, insisting that the references are reliable and that the subject is notable. Rather than get into it with them, I'd like to get some community eyes on the job. Thanks. Background discussion can be found at User talk:Cyphoidbomb#Fescal. Kings of Leon

I am honestly surprised the Followill brothers do not have articles. I have tried to start them, but they get redirected to the parent article every time. Can someone help to improve the situation? ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 19:55, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Edit Proposal: Increase Image Size in Music Infoboxes to Compliment the New Wikipedia

As you've noticed, the new Wikipedia font and size layout was introduced today. This, however, leaves one problem: the Infobox album and single templates have increased in width from just over 220px to just over 250px. This leaves a blank gap of 10px on each side of all images because of the images being defined at 220px width. It's an obvious move, but I'd thought it had to be brought up first! Increasing the image size from 220px to 250px will definitely resolve the situation, considering most uploaded artworks on Wikipedia should be 300px anyway. Oversizing will certainly not be an issue here.
RazorEye ⡭ ₪ ·o' ⍦ ࿂ 20:53, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

At a quick glance it seems that many images have resized themselves accordingly – presumably those that haven't are those that were uploaded at 220px in the first place. Richard3120 (talk) 22:06, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

I have adjusted the Album, Single and Song infoboxes accordingly. — Status (talk · contribs) 22:40, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

  • Just to let you know, I've started a discussion at Infobox song. It seems that the change decided on here has had something to do with the problems I'm now seeing, although I realise you've been dealing with a problem that's been handed down also …! JG66 (talk) 13:40, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

Rockabilly Hall of Fame?

Some advice: I noticed that a user (OlyBin) has been adding lots of musicians to "Category:Rockabilly Hall of Fame inductees". It appears that this is based on their listing on this website, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. So far they have added over 170 names. I can't see whether this "hall of fame" has any real process for adding names; I suspect they just pick people themselves, or take suggestions. I'm thinking, maybe the category should just be depopulated and removed? If people here agree, I'll take it to CFD. Brianyoumans (talk) 13:22, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

Dubstep

I propose that Dubstep should be its own wikiproject. The article Dubstep is already GA status, and it's such a big genre of music that it should be its own wikiproject. I've also done a lot of work on Dubstep articles, and it would be much easier to find articles to work on. Any thoughts? Cheers! Thecabbageburst (talk) 18:54, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

Terry Manning

Anybody out there know anything about Terry Manning? I've just removed most of the article as it was a copyvio from Manning's website. The article has been flagged as an unreferenced BLP since 2011. Is he notable, or should this be nominated for deletion? From the claims on his website he certainly appears to be notable, but independent sources are needed. --Deskford (talk) 17:09, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

Newly notable - anyone familiar with music articles welcome to expand - also, we have four possible singles called "Geronimo" - how best to name them? By year? Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 22:41, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi.

I originally speedily deleted an article as non-notable, but following an appeal from the original editor I restored and usified it. The editor has dropped me an email and asked me to review it following improvements. I have had a look, and it is in better condition than before, but I am unsure that it is enough. It appears borderline notable - enough to ensure that it won't be speedily deleted, but debatable as to whether or not it would pass AFD.

I don't know enough about this sort of music, nor am I familiar with the sources quoted to determine whether or not this is a notable band referenced in notable third party sources.

Working in their favour of notability, they have performed internationally (a Romanian band performing in Germany), but this was at a festival rather than touring. Similarly, they have been nominated for an awards and have won one, but I don't know whether or not that is a notable competition. For one thing, I can't get the link to work.

Could someone please have a look over it and see what you think? Thank you! Stephen! Coming... 13:28, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Problem with Template:Singles

Template:Singles is currently exhibiting a problem where the rows are being squashed uncomfortably together. An example of this is Lil-unique1's screenshot, which can be viewed here, of Basic Instinct (album), on Google Chrome. I run on Mozilla Firefox 28, and I have been experiencing this problem since yesterday. It seems that the problem exists across all articles that use the template, so it is not a problem with the use of the template, and it has been concluded at Template talk:Singles that the problem is not Template:Singles, but rather something else. Does anybody on here happen to know how to fix this?
RazorEye ⡭ ₪ ·o' ⍦ ࿂ 05:42, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

It's happening on the infobox for album articles as well, where you can add singles from the album at the bottom of the infobox. I've raised the issue on the talk page at Template talk:Infobox album. Richard3120 (talk) 15:48, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
Edit: my apologies, I realise that Template:Singles is exactly what I am talking about. Anyway, as I said, I've raised the issue on another talk page as well so hopefully somebody will look into it. Richard3120 (talk) 15:50, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Questions about timelines in artists' articles

I have noticed in various artists' articles that some sort of timeline is included which shows the notable members of the band members and when they joined, left, etc. I have three questions in regards to this: It seems that there is some confusion over whether these are appropriate for a good article. 1) Are there any guidelines involving music-related timelines (if so, I would appreciate if someone could direct me to the appropriate link)? 2) If not, should there even be any guidelines? 3) If there should be guidelines, but there are none at the moment, shouldn't we reach a consensus on whether or not the timelines are appropriate? Thanks! Twyfan714 (talk) 22:41, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Should navigation boxes about musical ensembles and artists be permitted to contain the year the album was released?

Support - For navigation boxes about musical ensembles and artists, I support the option of having in parentheses the year that an album is released to the right of the album title. I am interested in hearing other thoughts and viewpoints. --Jax 0677 (talk) 04:58, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Permitted, yes. Enforced, no. Navboxes are essentially for navigation, not information, and most navboxes list albums chronologically. I can't see how this information is problematic though. Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:18, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

AOR vs. Melodic rock vs. Pop rock - What a mess!

I think there needs to be a cleanup of the infoboxes of 1980s "arena rock" bands. First off, I have noticed that infoboxes for albums by Journey, Survivor, and others routinely have AOR listed as a genre in the infobox. However, that links to Album-oriented rock, which is a radio format, NOT a genre. I'm assuming that AOR in these cases is meant to redirect to something like "Adult-oriented rock", but there is no article on that (plus there is the issue of whether or not that is even a genre in the first place). Secondly, there is the issue of "Melodic rock", which has also been used in the infoboxes of 1980s rock artists. This redirects to pop rock, yet there is nothing in the article on pop rock about what the difference (if any) there is between pop rock and melodic rock. If there is no difference, then I am at a loss as to why it isn't simply titled "pop rock" in the infoboxes of those artists. This just looks like quite a mess, and to summarize, my questions are: 1) Why is "AOR" listed in the infoboxes if it is a radio format? 2) What is the difference between pop rock and melodic rock? 3) If there is no difference, then why don't the infoboxes simply list "pop rock" instead of "melodic rock"? Thank you! Johnny338 (talk) 16:56, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

I agree AOR is not a genre so it should not be listed in infoboxes. I have no I have no idea what the difference, or connection, between melodic rock and pop rock is. My inclination would be to remove melodic rock.--SabreBD (talk) 22:36, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
I think that AOR has been used in the infobox for the abuse of the term to define the rock music played by American artists in heavy rotation on FM radios in articles on magazines, specialized press and internet since the 80s. In those article the term was meant for not-too-aggressive and not-too-long songs of commercial rock music. Rock, hard rock, glam metal and even prog rock artists have part of their repertoire that could easily fit within this definition. I agree that AOR should not be used as a genre. Melodic rock is an undefined genre commonly used in music magazines and websites, which could be the same as power pop, arena rock and pop rock. The distinction between these sub-genres appears to be very slim and a serious debate about their use on WP could be appropriate. Arena rock, for example, is listed as a genre in Template:Rock music, but not in the List of rock genres. Is it a sub-genre or not? Allmusic lists it as such, but editors on Wiki banned it as not existent. Arena rock could be the equivalent of AOR for bands like Journey, REO Speedwagon, Heart and Styx. Or not? Lewismaster (talk) 14:05, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
@Lewismaster: What do you think would be the best place to bring their use up for discussion? Johnny338 (talk) 22:51, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
I just noticed that the term Arena rock was already discussed at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Arena_rock and you all agreed to exclude it from the list of rock sub-genres. I will cancel it from the template as well. What remains to be decided is how to categorize the music of what is now called "classic rock" that filled stadiums and climbed US charts for a decade between the mid 70s to the early 90s. I think that Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music/Music genres task force is the appropriate place to open the discussion. Lewismaster (talk) 06:38, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
