Information not related to Younis' five-wicket hauls[edit]

I removed the information not related to Younis' five-wicket hauls from this blurb, but the edit was reverted by Sahara4 with the edit summary "The article was discussed in May 2012 and remained on the page over a month." I think this reason for keeping the extraneous content irrelevant because there is no restriction on altering a TFL blurb after it has been promoted. Furthermore, the information has nothing to do with Younis' five-wicket hauls, but is rather cherrypicked information about Younis that reads like an advertisement for him rather than an encyclopedic entry about his five-wicket hauls. Comment: FYI, this is not Younis but Waqar as he is commonly known by his first name and this was suggested at the FLC. I'd like to invite The Rambling Man, Bencherlite, Giants2008, Vensatry, Harrias and Crisco 1492 to discuss this. I would be more than happy whatever they decide. I think that it is necessary and encyclopaedic to introduce the subject and give some information about him: yes, it is cherry-picked, but that's sort of the point: it's a short summary, which explains the notability of the list itself. Harrias talk 16:00, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This showed up on my notification list, and as an FL director I feel compelled to comment. I have mixed feelings about the information. I do think that the introduction describing who he is should be kept. Most Americans who read the Main Page won't have any idea who Waqar Younis is, and a brief intro might help draw them in to reading the list. However, I do think some of the non-wicket info towards the end of the blurb is excessive. I'd suggest cutting the last sentence about the ICC Hall of Fame; that's in the full lead anyway. There were also a couple of grammar issues, which I'm going to tackle in a minute. Giants2008 (Talk) 22:16, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • More or less per Giants: keep context, but don't go overboard with irrelevant information. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:01, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • In keeping with the suggestions of Giants and Crisco above, I have removed the sentence about the ICC Hall of Fame from the blurb. The blurb is still longer than recommended, so I would recommend removing the sentence about Wisden's Cricketers of the Year as well; that sentence is similarly unrelated to Waqar's five-wicket hauls, and is not really introductory information either.
