Well done[edit]

To Indon and Rigadoun for starting work an important part of the project.

Names[edit]

In Javanese culture - the issue of names is a lot more complex - many have only one name (no family name), while members of palace/kraton families have had in the past up to four names in their life time. (So HBIX is a classic example - some insist on calling him his childhood name - however correct protocol for the deceased person should surely be his formal or last name) There needs to be more discussion about this. Yes, that was exactly what I was thinking of. I think for someone like HBIX it would be inappropriate for us to use his childhood name, which I think follows from the conventions I said. Another complicated example is the musician K. P. H. Notoprojo, who actually seems frequently known in the West by an informal name name (Pak Cokro), but that seemed inappropriate for an article, so I used his final name (even though it may be less known). Usage of districts & subdistricts[edit]

I've seen a lot of mistranslation, from "kecamatan" to subdistrict instead of district. I highly suggest adding it, because mistranslation in this could result in wrong order of subdivisions. We also need more detailed explanation on Indonesian subdivision translation based on Districts of Indonesia and Subdivisions of Indonesia. Nyanardsan (talk) 11:07, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jalan[edit]

Occasionally there is overtransaltion of the Indonesian word "Jalan", usually as Road or Street. I think it would be useful to have a policy in the Indonesian MOS that we can point at saying it is never translated, in line with German streets such as Straße des 17. Juni or French streets such as Rue de Montmorency. Given that every Indonesian street/road/avenue etc. is named "Jalan" something, attempting to translate it leads to inconsistencies, and in the case of the Bali road called "Jalan Sunset Road", translation is clearly ridiculous. Any thoughts? Davidelit (Talk) 09:33, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have yet to see such over-translation on "Jalan", do you mind to share example of article that have such translation. I can only find few articles on "Jalan", such as Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto, and they don't have such issues.
While I understand your concerns. IMO, WP already have WP:HOWTRANS which provide information on how to translate, and translation is part of common sense. So, I don't think it's really necessary to have MOS for how to translate specific word. That's my two cents. Ckfasdf (talk) 22:29, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
