Suspected sockpuppets

Editor is repeatedly using IP anons as sockpuppets to cast multiple "votes" in AFD discussions he initiates. Level of sockpuppeting increased after several of his nominations failed. Editor self-identifies on user page as associated with Los Angeles. Anons also associated by interest in vandalism involving UCLA related articles. These are lists of examples, there are more but this should be enough to show. There is an obvious problem.

Examples of IP addresses used as sockpuppets

  • 68.183.104.7 (talk · contribs) geolocates to Los Angeles and has approximately 40 edits -- 25 supporting deletion of articles nominated by GMatsuda, 1 prod2-ing an article prodded by Gmatsuda, almost all remaining edits addressing vandalism in the same manner as Gmatsuda
  • 68.183.55.64 (talk · contribs) geolocates to Los Angeles and has 19 edits, all supporting deletion of articles nominated by Gmatsuda.
  • 71.138.125.138 (talk · contribs) geolocates to Santa Ana, CA and has 14 recent edits, 13 supporting deletion of articles nominated by Gmatsuda
  • 128.97.244.12 (talk · contribs) geolaocates to UCLA has occasional unrelated edits; only edit in 2009 supports deletion of article nominated by Gmatsuda.
  • 128.97.244.65 (talk · contribs) geolocates to UCLA and has 1 recent edit, supporting deletion of article in company with Gmatsuda.
  • 128.97.245.2 (talk · contribs) geolocates to UCLA and has 1 recent edit, supporting deletion of article nominated by Gmatsuda.
  • 128.97.245.3 (talk · contribs) geolocates to UCLA and has 1 recent edit, supporting deletion of article nominated by Gmatsuda.
  • 128.97.245.99 (talk · contribs) geolocates to UCLA and has 2 edits, both supporting deletion of articles nominated by Gmatsuda.

I think I hear quacking as well ... that IP prod-2ing an article GMatsuda prodded is particularly damning. I'm gonna look more into this ... on the face of it, I'm not even sure if a CU is necessary. Blueboy96 23:03, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Conclusions

This editor has been editing the same intersection of articles. ie Los Angeles Kings and Manzanar which were areas focused heavily on by User:Gmatsuda and not a group of articles that is common to edit at the same time. Also the User:Kingsfan011 account was created 7 days after the Gmatsuda account was blocked for sockpuppeting. -DJSasso (talk) 13:09, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From a technical standpoint, I'm not sure. Gmatsuda (talk · contribs) is  Stale, but the CU log from February seems to indicate that he was editing from the same ranges as Kingsfan011 (talk · contribs). J.delanoygabsadds 14:57, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
