Daco-Romania[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. signed, Rosguill talk 17:14, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what's best for this redirect as the term is not used in the target article. Daco-Roman begins with "Daco-Roman describes the Romanized culture of Dacia under the rule of the Roman Empire." and "Daco-Roman" is used in the Antquity and Middle Ages sections of Romania and in the Origin of the Romanians article. Daco-Romanian is a term used in comparative linguistics that is covered at Romanian language#Dialects where it redirects. Two articles on Wikipedia do use the exact term, the first is a list entry at Dumitru Berciu#Publications and this book is reponsible for almost all the google hits. the second is Sextil Pușcariu#Final years in the sentence "he founded Daco-Romania magazine", elsewhere in the article (and in other articles) a magazine by the name Dacoromania is mentioned several times, but Dacoromania is a redlink here and at ro.wp. Thryduulf (talk) 12:12, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Daco-Romanian is the name that the Romanian language receives when Romanian linguists discuss Eastern Romance languages as a whole. They believe Aromanian, Megleno-Romanian and Istro-Romanian are dialects of Romanian and thus refer to Romanian proper as Daco-Romanian to differentiate it. "Daco-Romania" is just the country of the Daco-Romanian-speakers (the Daco-Romanians), if following the same terminology. Super Ψ Dro 12:35, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see the logic, but that doesn't address the term not being used at the target article nor there being no apparent reliable sources that use the term in this manner to support a mention there. It also doesn't reflect that it is used in at least one other context (the book). Thryduulf (talk) 13:55, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The book is evidence of the existence of the term or that the same logic I applied was also applied by notable scholars with articles in this website. If the book was to get an article, we could disambiguate it by titling it Daco-Romania (book). Super Ψ Dro 16:13, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. If Daco-Romania refers to a place, we have no information on enwiki about it. I don't find it useful to retarget to the target of Daco-Romanian, which, while has mentions of geographical areas of the speakers of the language, doesn't say that Daco-Romania is or was a region that referred to those places. Targetting to Dumitru Berciu will just be confusing. Jay 💬 10:47, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Doesn't seem to be a real term and anyone entering it in the search box will get both Daco-Roman and Daco-Romanian as suggestions. Furius (talk) 12:13, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: I'm split on this because it is a joke redirect, but it seems to unambiguously refer to the GPWS. My thought for whether or not this should be kept is whether it's feasible someone would see this term without the context of GPWS being there as well and want a definition for this and if they'd search this specific term on wikipedia. It gets some pageviews, but not a ton. It's a bit of a flip of a coin. TartarTorte 01:58, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'd tend to think people searching for the system (say, from seeing it in a movie) would be more likely to search "pull up" - which does gets them to the article - before this version with the onomatopoeia. And if they looked here first and it didn't exist, surely they'd look for plain "pull up" after. —Cryptic 02:28, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
      That's a pretty solid point. I think I'm leaning delete per Cryptic's reasoning. TartarTorte 12:28, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as unambiguous, harmless and well used (114 hits last year for example). There is no benefit to deletion and, given that people are using it, potential harm in doing so. Thryduulf (talk) 09:53, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This had redirected to Tunnel#Underpass. The current target is specifically about a passageway for pedestrians or (bicycles). An underpass is really a general term that could pass a sidewalk/pathway/road/railway/canal/pipeline/wildlife corridor/etc. under another. I think the prior target should be restored. Was surprised and confused to land on this redirect to a seemingly unrelated page. There is a paragraph on the phrase, but Professor Calculus doesn't appear to be the origin of or a particularly prominent use of the phrase (though I couldn't find much about it elsewhere on Wikipedia.) tbodt (talk) 17:10, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment, as a Tintin fan: this is the sort of common, idiomatic phrase where a retarget to Wiktionary (wikt:act the goat) may be in order. It is important to note that Calculus is especially associated with this present continuous tense of the phrase. J947edits 00:31, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Soft Retarget - This should go to Wiktionary, as stated above. As a fan of the series as well, I know that the words are strongly associated with that character, but they also certainly predate his creation. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 07:29, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In doing research Cossart might or might not be an actual place or just a name accidentally extrapolated from a railroad station that was there called Cossart (possibly due to Cossart Road which is in the area of the former station) on the Wilmington and Northern Branch. Regardless, what is referred to as Cossart is in Pennsbury Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, not Kennett Square it seems, but it is not mentioned in either article. It is mentioned in List of places in Pennsylvania: C, and I pressume that comes from GNIS where it is listed as a "Populated Place", but that regularly was applied just to train stations. With no actual mention of it in either place it could be targeted and the only mention of it on Wikipedia is that it exists in List of places in Pennsylvania: C makes me think deletion is the way to go. Term used by fans to describe LeBron James' perceived control over the Lakers' Front Office (GM = General Manager), similar to Westbrick for Russell Westbrook or Vinsanity for Vince Carter, both redirects currently in use by Wikipedia. JohnnyYeet (talk) 01:23, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

They are basically joking terms/memes that are commonly used by Lakers fans and haters alike, particularly the use of "Westbrick" by anchors such as Skip Bayless. That being said, Westbrook has frequently expressed his disdain for the "Westbrick" moniker, so I suppose it could be taken down due to being somewhat offensive. That being said, I think keeping LeGM as a meme redirect wouldn't be particularly offensive or harmful. JohnnyYeet (talk) 23:38, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistency with the formal version of the name, Thomas Playford, which is a disambiguation page. The only scenario where this primary redirect is warranted would be if IV was the only Thomas Playford to be called Tom during his lifetime, which given how common "Tom" is, I doubt. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! Retarget to Thomas Playford. It seems like Tom Playford is more frequently used as a name for Thomas Playford IV than the others, but not enough to be the sole target of the redirect. Alternatively if it's kept, there should probably be a hatnote on Thomas Playford IV for people looking for the others. Dylnuge (TalkEdits) 01:49, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Originally targeted Leon Bridges, but seems to be distinct from Bridges, although at least part of the band has toured with him if I'm reading what's on the internet right. The current target is a festival the band has played at, and is not a useful target as way too narrow. It's possible there's enough sourcing for an article on this band, but the best thing for now is to delete so that this can become a redlink, as I'm not seeing a single target better than others. Hog Farm Talk 01:26, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
