Big White Shark[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. (non-admin closure)Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 22:03, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've never seen it spelled this way. TraderCharlotte (talk) 23:08, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Rename the redirect to Big white shark. Could be a search term, but should be capitalized per MOS. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:20, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Maybe the capitalization is incorrect but the redirect is still serving its purpose, i.e., guiding readers where it's supposed to. No need to delete, and moving doesn't seem like a good idea either. CycloneYoris talk! 23:13, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Keep per CycloneYoris and create the sentence case version. Thryduulf (talk) 00:11, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep and create a separate sentence case version per Thryduulf. BD2412 T 03:59, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'll add that I'm fine with keeping, and making a second redirect. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:59, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: I created the sentence case redirect too - just noting Happy Editing--IAmChaos 20:20, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've marked the capitalised redirect as a {{R avoided double redirect}} of the sentence case version without prejudice to this discussion. Thryduulf (talk) 21:19, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Trading spread[edit]

The result of the discussion was no consensus with no prejudice against speedy renomination. The nominator did not suggest any particular outcome, and after two weeks no one else has either. @TraderCharlotte: Feel free to renominate with a proposed outcome. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 23:02, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Does not necessarily refer to options spreads; could also refer to futures spreads like the NOB spread. TraderCharlotte (talk) 21:00, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There are a couple of other redirects like this linking to that page, like Spread trading, trading spreads, Spreads trading, and a lot of others. TraderCharlotte (talk) 21:02, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Retarget per nom, looks like a better, more detailed option. Rubbish computer (Ping me or leave a message on my talk page) 20:00, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why is it better? The current target is a policy page and the proposed target is an info page. The current target does mention in its first line that username change must be done via Wikipedia:Changing username. Jay (talk) 03:10, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. We should always be very cautious when retargetting shortcut redirects due to the potential for significant confusion (or worse). In this case I'm not seeing why either target is significantly better than the other so the status quo should prevail. Thryduulf (talk) 00:15, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep absent a compelling rationale to change. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 22:59, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to List of botanists by author abbreviation (M). Will also add him to the list. (non-admin closure)Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 00:02, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would redirect to List of botanists by author abbreviation (M) but this name has not been added to the list. It refers to Ricky G. Maulder (wikidata:Q21389226) but I don't know if the name should be added - is the list intended to be complete? Wikidata has 53,761 items with the author abbreviation property. Nothing else to redirect to - several articles mention Ricky G. Maulder, but the only other mentions of this name in Wikipedia are a competitor in the 1998 Oceania Junior Athletics Championships and a source cited in the Parkour article. Zee News South[edit]

The result of the discussion was soft delete. Based on minimal participation, this uncontroversial nomination is treated as an expired PROD (a.k.a. "soft deletion"). Editors can request the article's undeletion. plicit 12:23, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This was moved from Zee Tamil News to make a combined article about four channels, but there are no sources for the name. As it was proposed for deletion, I reverted the move (and redirected the article to Zee Media Corporation#Current channels, as it was a short stub, the references did not support the content, and I could not find enough coverage to indicate notability). As Zee News South is not mentioned anywhere else in Wikipedia, or verifiable as the name of anything, it is not a useful redirect and should be deleted. Haw.[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was disambiguate. signed, Rosguill talk 20:42, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The current redirect target is a scientist of at best middling notability. However, "Haw." in political and legal contexts overwhelmingly refers to the highly notable U.S. state of Hawaii - see, e.g., the voluminous Google Books results for "Haw." and court, or of "Haw." and law. I would retarget to Haw. BD2412 T 01:44, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Haw per the above. "Haw." is far to vague to have one clear primary topic; the disambiguation page is the logical retarget here. —QueenofBithynia (talk) 10:29, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Haw, disambiguation looks like the best option here. Rubbish computer (Ping me or leave a message on my talk page) 18:57, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Hawaii. I won't strenuously object to redirecting to the disambiguation page, but the nominator's own argument shows that when you have a single period after Haw, it overwhelmingly means Hawaii specifically, and people who search wikipedia for "Haw." with the period are likely confused as to what this specific abbreviation means. As such, it should go to what that abbreviation means, directly. Fieari (talk) 01:02, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • To be clear, I have looked at legal/political sources, not biology sources. I am not confident that there is a primary topic, or that the period is sufficently distinguishing at all. BD2412 T 03:33, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate, restoring the page to this rev. With the period at the end it is clearly an initialism; for someone trying to find out what it means this would be more helpful than having to trawl through the whole of Haw, where the correct answers are somewhat buried. If retarget, then go to Haw, not Hawaii. Hawaii is not the only valid possibility, even if it is more voluminous — current usage is overwhelmingly in the botanical context, even if not numerous. —2406:3003:2077:1E60:C998:20C6:8CCF:5730 (talk) 02:28, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate per the IP. It's not helpful to force botanists or legal researchers to wander through the whole Haw dab page to look for Haworth or Hawaii. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 22:52, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • I have no objection to the IP's proposal. BD2412 T 23:15, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Disambig either by writing a new one or reverting per the ip editor's suggestion. Thryduulf (talk) 11:28, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore disambiguation per the 2406 IP. Mdewman6 (talk) 01:28, 19 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I was about to close this as restore DAB, but apparently I wrote the original! So I'll leave that to someone else. I do think that restoring is the best outcome here, though. Haw is a long DAB page, with no way to find which entries might be referred to as "Haw.", for someone redirected there. It's fine to have one DAB that covers a subset of another. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 22:35, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was speedy delete (well, "speedy" by five hours) under the G7 criterion. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 02:43, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This uses the Cyrillic letter о (U+043E) for the second one instead of the Latin o (U+006F). 2001:16A2:E950:3402:86F:362E:4C50:3F9C (talk) 07:44, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. Mixed script titles only rarely make good redirects, and this is not one of the exceptions. Thryduulf (talk) 11:39, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thoroughly confused delete as apparent page creator in 2015. I have absolutely no memory of this and have no idea why I created it. Anyway, the spelling has just 873 results on Google. It's unlikely to be of any use. Prinsgezinde (talk) 17:38, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per above. This оne's only been getting abоut ten pageviews per year on average, sо I don't think it's likely tо be of significant use right nоw, since I don't think peоple will search it with both Оs, even if they do lоok identical. We can just dо without this thing. Regards, SОNIC678 04:27, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
