Template:Eq[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. plicit 12:08, 19 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recently, {{=}} became a magic word. This means that any use of {{eq}} in any form will lead to issues with Category:Pages which use a template in place of a magic word regardless of how it's used. The redirect is also not currently used in capacity. I suggest deleting it to avoid encouraging calling magic words through templates. Aidan9382 (talk) 13:48, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: Per nominator. A largely unused template that links to a now magic word is no longer helpful. TartarTorte 15:52, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: This definitely shouldn't be a redirect at this point because the content of Template:= is somewhat technically sensitive (due to being one of the few template names that's special-cased by the software). We'd have to either duplicate the template or delete the redirect, and it doesn't make much sense to have a template that duplicates a magic word (especially when its name is longer and less clear than the alternative, yet short enough to confuse many people who might see it). --ais523 16:38, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Question: Should {{Equal}} and {{Equals}} be included in this nomination? – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:30, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Looking at a similar template, Template:!, it has no redirects. I imagine it had at least one if not more. Gonnym (talk) 07:19, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Delete this and any redirect to the template. Gonnym (talk) 07:20, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all as part of the deprecation process for Template:=. It is no longer a template, thus is should not have redirects to it like one. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 02:41, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete all after above discussion. Both Equal and Equals also fit under the reason for Eq, and should therefore be deleted along with it (I'm assuming a revote like this is allowed). Aidan9382 (talk) 19:14, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at target. Searching shows this is a slang term for the paper strip in a Hershey Kiss and had some Twitter exposure, but the article refers to it only as "the paper plume", as does the company. MB 07:50, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as not mentioned anywhere. The only sources for the slang name appear to be Twitter, Quora, Reddit, Tumblr and mirrors of Wikipedia so I would be unable to add a reliably sourced mention to the target. Thryduulf (talk) 20:36, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect topic no longer mentioned on the target page, but these two terms seem to mostly be associated with Vyond/GoAnimate videos. Keep or delete? And "punishment day" could either refer to the type of Vyond video, or a day that a child gets various punishments in real life. Colgatepony234 (talk) 03:13, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Nonlinear system. Jay (talk) 04:27, 19 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Many nonlinear equations are not polynomials. Polynomials are just one special case. Should this retarget to something else, such as Nonlinear system, which is the target for Nonlinear system of equations? (Whatever is done for this should also be done with Simultaneous nonlinear equations, a redirect that I just created.) — BarrelProof (talk) 04:06, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Nonlinear simultaneous equations" seems to me to be a synonym of "nonlinear system of equations" so should be targeted to the same place. If I'm wrong and there is a subtle difference perhaps a mathematician can set me straight. SpinningSpark 16:47, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of Connecticut anywhere on the page; even LGBT culture in New York City#Elsewhere in the New York metropolitan area only has examples from NJ and elsewhere in NY (state). eviolite (talk) 00:49, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The plan is to get to Connecticut as well, which is in the New York City metropolitan area. I just haven’t had a chance to get to it yet. Castncoot (talk) 00:53, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Connecticut is not New York City. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 01:35, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Wholly wrong. You don't make redirects to something you "might make in the future". And Connecticut is not part of the NYC metro. Fairfield County is, but not the entire state. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 03:57, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Last month, I created this redirect, among similar others. Some people took issue with it, some took it with the target itself, and some took it with how I created them, so on 27 Jun Graeme deleted them. I couldn't find the rationale for the deletion under WP:RFD#DELETE, and found at least one reason for keeping it(3) They aid searches on certain terms—not to mention that, if I created them, naturally I'm (5) Someone who finds them useful. I would thus like to better understand why these, and other similar, redirects need to be deleted on their own merit, now that the consensus for keeping the target has been established. I understand one of the issues some people took with the redirects themselves was that the people they named are not notable, but WP:N explicitly states that:

when notable topics are not given standalone pages, redirection pages and disambiguation can be used to direct readers searching for such topics to the appropriate articles and sections within them (see also Wikipedia:Redirects are cheap).
