Peter Crowley[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Procedural close. RfD is not used for moving articles. (non-admin closure) Natg 19 (talk) 17:25, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I propose that the redirect from Peter Crowley to Peter Crowley (Gaelic footballer) should be deleted. I intent to change the title of the article Peter William Crowley to "Peter Crowley", however, I cannot do so, as the redirect still exists. Peter William Crowley is notable as one of the world's longest hunger strikers, and I wish to change his page name to "Peter Crowley", as that is what he is referred to as in various documents, and in the media. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jburke2005 (talkcontribs) 23:09, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Close and create an WP:RM discussion at Talk:Peter William Crowley, per the top of WP:RFD: If you want to move a page but a redirect is in the way, do not list it here. 61.239.39.90 (talk) 02:34, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note @Jburke2005: (a) I've added the hatnote which should have been added to the foorballer page as soon as the hungerstriker page was created (if the move goes ahead a mirror image would be needed instead, on the hungerstriker page), and (b) there are a lot of incoming links which will need to be fixed if the footballer page is moved. PamD 02:43, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Procedural close per the IP above. Wrong venue to discuss the proposed moves. Note that the nom already boldly moved Peter Crowley (Gaelic footballer) from Peter Crowley, but this of course left a redirect, and now we have the base name as a redirect rather than at one of the potential primary topics. Ideally this move would be reverted and whoever closes this discussion would then start a RM for both Peter Crowley -> Peter Crowley (footballer) and Peter William Crowley -> Peter Crowley. Mdewman6 (talk) 19:41, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Procedural close: use WP:RM. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 18:01, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In January last year, PamD moved the target page to a "more realistic title," since this one is pretty ambiguous as to what Prize it's meant to refer to. A Nobel Prize? A Pulitzer Prize? A Booker Prize? An International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition prize (the list of whose recipients has a title that's a partial match to this one, but retargeting there is questionable)? A prize for winning one's field day? Well, we don't really know for sure, and a Google search for the term brings up a lot of results unrelated to the NATSIAA, so we should delete this or retarget it wherever appropriate unless someone can provide a justification. • Delete - the term is too vague to be used as a redirect to anything. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 22:40, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • 'Delete: sorry I didn't think to do so at the time, as it was a ridiculous title and is an equally ridiculous redirect. PamD 02:21, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete highly unlikely search term and in rare instances that someone may do so they wouldn’t be looking for the target article.--67.70.24.141 (talk) 06:13, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: The definition of "all Prize" is very unclear in this context. ―Susmuffin Talk 06:53, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as vague --Lenticel (talk) 00:34, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at the target, and apparently not a suitable common language redirect, as the target describes a subgenre that was prevalent from 1970s-1980s, and not a contemporary genre. Delete unless a justification can be provided. signed, Rosguill talk 14:42, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: "Contemporary disco" refers to contemporary disco, but the 1980s began forty years ago. I doubt that anyone looking for the contemporary version of a musical genre would be interested in reading about a trend that ended before a fair number of our readers were born. ―Susmuffin Talk 07:03, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete something that ended 35 years ago is not contemporary and there is nothing in the article to suggest that is was a well known alternative name for post-disco.--67.70.24.141 (talk) 22:27, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at the target, not helpful to readers without a mention. Delete unless someone can think of a better target. signed, Rosguill talk 14:15, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete these cross-namespace redirects. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 18:04, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete One of these awards was deleted following an AfD. Also, keeping a cross-namespace redirect is not appropriate. -- Ab207 (talk) 07:14, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Previous RfDs for this redirect and similar redirects:

These four UNNATURALly formatted redirects were part of a mass nomination in danger of facing a potentially costly disaster on the tracks. They haven't gotten very many pageviews since their target pages were moved to their correctly formatted titles, and are pretty much search bar clutter because of this. Delete them unless a justification can be provided. Regards, SONIC678 01:37, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
