January 3[edit]

This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on January 3, 2021.

Artemisia australis[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. Per the nominator's assertion that these are all verifiable species, previous consensus supports that these are better as red links to encourage article creation. ~ mazca talk 23:13, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

These are accepted species* and shouldn't be redirected to their parent taxa. They would be better as red links. See previous RfD for Vernonia fasciculata and more as well as WP:SPECIESOUTCOMES.

*or they are synonyms of accepted species that don't yet have Wikipedia articles. Each name has been checked against taxonomy databases such as Plants of the World Online and Algaebase. Hyperik talk 23:11, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete all per the consensus at the previous RfD to encourage article creation. All species are presumed inherently notable enough for a stand alone article, per WP:SPECIESOUTCOMES, and these redirects are potentially confusing/unhelpful. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 02:11, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. No mention at the target and minimal available information to change that. ~ mazca talk 23:11, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at the target, delete unless a justification can be provided. signed, Rosguill talk 19:38, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete As best I can tell it's a series of 2 or 3 poetry books they published in 2011, but I'm really struggling to find any more information on them. I don't think this is the primary topic of this phrase, when I search for "Waterways Series" alone the first 2-3 pages of results are a mix of maps, books and tv series about canal systems, none of the results relate to Flipped eye publishing. As stated by the nominator there's no mention of this series at the target. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 02:26, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rebecca (upcoming film)[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. Most participants consider all of these unnecessary and also now inaccurate. ~ mazca talk 23:10, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Delete Again it's time to delete "upcoming" redirects, once they are no longer upcoming, as we have done regularly for some time. They are misleading. UnitedStatesian (talk) 20:07, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete all they are not upcoming projects. In fact, "upcoming" redirects shouldn't have existed in the first place, per WP:CRYSTALBALL. (talk) 16:25, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • It is not a violation of WP:CRYSTALBALL to report on events or things that are confirmed by reliable sources to be forthcoming and a name like "Upcoming" is often required if the date and/or title is not yet confirmed by reliable sources. For a time after these article are moved to the final title the "upcoming" redirect still has value to enable people who follow links/bookmarks, etc. that have not yet been updated or who don't know that the date/title have been confirmed (and or don't know what it is) can find the content they are looking for. This period is only temporary and for some of these redirects has expired but for others it clearly has not (hence my split votes). Thryduulf (talk) 21:28, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: I can only comment on Upcoming Ariana Grande album as a variation of that title was used when the album was announced/notable, but no name was official yet, so it was made, but then the redirect was never moved into the album name—a new article was created. So, obviously, it doesn't have a purpose anymore and should be deleted. Heartfox (talk) 19:18, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeasting[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was no consensus to change the status quo. A Wiktionary redirect is held to be justifiable here, and while there are some possibly sensible targets on Wikipedia itself, there's been no particular agreement as to a strong preferred target. ~ mazca talk 23:15, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Contrary to the template text, Wikipedia does have an article on Yeast, but the noun, not the verb. Not sure if it makes sense to redirect there, to Fermentation in food processing, or to wikt:yeasting. power~enwiki (π, ν) 05:21, 27 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep as a soft redirect. Wikipedia does not indeed have an article about yeasting, in any of the three senses mentioned at Wiktionary, nor is the term mentioned in any of those senses in any article that I've been able to find. Someone looking for yeast in a noun sense wont be using this search term, they'll use "yeast". They might be looking for fermentation (not just in food processing) but equally they could be looking for Proofing (baking technique) or exaggeration. The term is not mentioned in any of those articles so targetting any one of them is apt to be a WP:SURPRISE and a dab page would just duplicate wikt:yeasting#Verb. Finally deleting is not an option as this is required to support interwiki links at Wikidata. Thryduulf (talk) 18:36, 27 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, signed, Rosguill talk 19:44, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Fermentation. My search showed this is by far the most used meaning of the word. -- Tavix (talk) 21:30, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • It might be the most used, but my research didn't indicate it was used sufficiently more often to be the primary topic. It is also not mentioned there (or anywhere else) so would be confusing for someone who doesn't know what it means. Thryduulf (talk) 00:11, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Enwiki has no encyclopedic content but it appears to meet the criteria at Template:Wiktionary redirect. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 14:34, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete due to the implausible spacing error. -- Tavix (talk) 00:13, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • weak delete this looks like a CamelCase title rather than necessarily a spacing error, but the redirect post-dates the CamelCase era of Wikipedia and is not well used (although it does get more hits (27 last year) than I was expecting (on the order of 10 or fewer)). Thryduulf (talk) 00:36, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. This isn't a camel case title or anything resulting from a page move, it's left over from a POV fork article created at a misspelled title that was blanked and redirected 15 years ago. I think the spacing error is implausible, verified by it only getting 4 page views in the last 3 months. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 03:20, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The reason why this gets 27 hits per year may be that it is suggested when a user types Kashmir History in the search bar, next to another redirect (Kashmiri history) pointing to the obvious target. Place Clichy (talk) 09:16, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to Mirpur Division as an alternative term. Soumya-8974 (he) talk contribs subpages 18:32, 25 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - There is no such thing as "Azad Mirpur". -- Kautilya3 (talk) 00:43, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I suspect what's happened here is that someone decided that Azad Kashmir is an inaccurate term since Kashmir isn't actually part of it, and so it would make more sense to refer to it by one of the districts that is located in the region. While I don't know whether keeping or deleting the redirect would be the better option here, I certainly don't think redirecting to Mirpur Division is a good idea, given that the name makes even less sense in that context (Mirpur isn't divided between an "Azad" and "occupied" portion).
