Not mentioned in the target article. Looking it up it appears to be a non-notable character. Dominicmgm (talk) 22:28, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. The character is a German soldier played by Harry Nehring, who doesn't have an article on Wiki. Less Unless (talk) 11:58, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Aseleste/Category holder[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. plicit 01:57, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This little-used redirect page clutters up a huge number of categories. My first choice would be deletion, second choice would be to turn it into a standard redirect with no cats, third choice would be to add leading colons to the cats. (Example: [[:Category::Wikipedians who should probably stop screwing around with categories, lest they draw unwanted attention from the Categories Police]] ). Guy Macon (talk) 18:34, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Why did User:Aseleste/Category holder end up with "#invoke:RfD" instead of linking to this discussion? Is there a way to fix this? --Guy Macon (talk) 18:40, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Normally that means you've exceeded some limit in the template parser, or the LUA module has produced an error. Rather than expanding the template it just produces a wikilink to the template or LUA module. I assume it has something to do with NAMESPACE and ROOTPAGENAME magic words on the page, I don't know if the RfD LUA module has error handling to deal with being passed those magic words. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 18:46, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      •  Fixed. It has nothing to do with magic words, the problem was instead that the page had too much wikitext to process. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:03, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Speedy keep, as I can't see any evidence that the nominator contacted this active and productive user before nominating their page for deletion. Aside from that, the deletion nomination doesn't make any sense - All of the categories are Wikipedia user categories, and how is the presence of a user page "cluttering" categories that are intended to hold user pages? If a user wants to put their user categories on a separate page, there is nothing wrong with that. No valid reason for deletion, and serious incivility against another editor. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 20:56, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So you see no problem with a redirect that is in all of the following categories, and which makes all of the following categories larger?

---Guy Macon (talk) 21:35, 6 April 2021 (UTC) I notice that someone collapsed the long annoying list above. And yet several editors are fine with the same list cluttering up hundreds of categories. --Guy Macon (talk) 06:12, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep, the page seems to do exactly what it is supposed to do (categorise the user into user categories without displaying them on the main user page, while at the same time not inconveniencing editors looking through user categories by forcing them to perform an extra click). I am not aware that there is a limit to how many categories a user can categorise themselves into. —Kusma (𐍄·𐌺) 22:04, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: ...so what does @Aseleste think? (I think that's rather too many categories; I also think "people can do whatever the hell they want with their userspace" a high virtue.) Vaticidalprophet 00:02, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any use -- any use at all - for this redirect other that to allow Aseleste to have their name appear in 252 categories without them being visible (and thus attract criticism) on Aseleste's user page? --Guy Macon (talk) 16:59, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - oh no the categories police are coming[Humor]
The intention of this nomination is not addressing the appropriateness of the redirect itself, but the perceived excessive amount of categories. RfD may not be the best venue for this since RfD deals with the redirection itself, not the categories of the redirect.
Personally, I do not see it as a problem that needs fixing, but I am fine with filtering out some categories. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 08:17, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Fails WP:SRD: "Soft redirects to non-English language editions of Wikipedia should be avoided because they will generally be unhelpful to English-language readers.". Per WP:SOFTSP as well, soft redirects from the mainspace should be towards other English language sister projects, not to articles in another language. Fram (talk) 14:22, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. This should be a redlink to encourage the creation of an English language article. French language content will not be of great use to a large number of our readers as they will not speak French and will have to read the article through a translator. If it is desirable to add a link to the French article {{Interlanguage link}} should be used, rather than a redirect. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 14:33, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom, unless there is an appropriate local target for this page. Sending readers to non-English content is not helpful. The plain {{soft redirect}} template is not used in the mainspace (along the lines of the sentiment expressed at WP:SOFTSP). See here for precedents. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 15:27, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Volkswagen seem to have been using a technology by this name in their golfs at some point, but it isn't mentioned in the main article on the car group. A google search shows this phrase being used in a large number of different contexts, so it seems a bit ambiguous. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 11:58, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was disambiguate. -- Tavix (talk) 14:41, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sandra Lindsay was a murder victim and is mentioned at the target article. However, a Search for other uses of "Sandra Lindsay" shows 9 articles that mention the term, many about different people, but none of whom is worthy of an article. In this case, therefore, the redirect obstructs a more productive Search. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 11:34, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sandra Lindsay was the first person to be vaccinated for Covid in the US. She's so unknown that she was part of the televised inauguration of Biden as an announcer. I don't say she should have her own article, but she should be a redirect as well. In the case of two redirects, then the disambiguation page is the best solution. --Deansfa (talk) 14:58, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Quotation marks indicate an uncertain genus. This particular template is unused and may qualify for Unnecessary taxonomy templates, but others with quotes are being used correctly. For example, Template:Taxonomy/"Hylarana", as used in "Hylarana" attigua, has a subtly but deliberately different meaning from Template:Taxonomy/Hylarana, as used in Hylarana taipehensis, which a taxonomist could explain better than I can. Certes (talk) 11:02, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment by creator: I have no opinion on whether to keep it or not, but I can assure you that it was transcluded somewhere when I created it. Someone would have to dig deep to figure out where, but that may indicate future usefulness. I have no objection to deletion of an unused template redirect. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:21, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete because this redirect is unused, but noting that other titles with quotation marks play a useful and necessary role in the taxobox system. Certes (talk) 09:16, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Siccia is not a gastropod. And disambiguator qualifier "(gastropods)" is invalid. See User:Estopedist1/Taxons and disambiguation Estopedist1 (talk) 12:21, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Previously deleted. No mention of term at target page and meaning is dubious at best. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 01:52, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Ultraconservatism literally means extremely conservative and could refer to various groups, depending on context. I haven't seen any sources where national conservatives are referred to this way. TFD (talk) 19:53, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete I agree with TFD - anything could be called ultra, but there's no such term in widespread usage.Less Unless (talk) 12:13, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand why this redirect was created. The only link between Tiger Asia Management and Archegos Capital Management is that an employee of the former created the latter. These are clearly separate entities. JBchrch (talk) 21:44, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - As stated above, these are different firms. I agree. Deletion is the right call. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 04:53, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Tiger Asia Management needs it’s own wikipage. --Devokewater 10:27, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. According to this source cited in the article, Archegos came from Tiger Asia: "In 2013, Hwang converted the firm [Tiger Asia] into a family office – Archegos Capital Management". The "History" section should be clarified, but the redirect seems appropriate. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 09:09, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
