There is a 2019 named "Blank", where this page originally target, but the target was changed by EmausBot. Also, this film is not mentioned at that target. However, it seems that the left bracket is too close to the word, so I'm not 100% sure if we should retarget this page back to the 2019 film page. François Mathet[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was procedural close - now and article. Thryduulf (talk) 12:20, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Delete, unless there is an appropriate local target for this page. Sending readers to non-English content is not helpful. Additionally, the plain soft redirect template is not used in the mainspace. Precedents: Mohamed Chabani|, Saint Michel Boulevard, Bonne Nuit les Petits, Kumagai Morikazu, and Éditions Fides. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 20:39, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom and WP:REDLINK. Thryduulf (talk) 22:59, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: I'll take this and translate it, I am not sure it is going to be WP:N in EN:WP though, as FR:WP is a bit more lax with the old RS. Please keep the listing open here at RfD, technically it won't be an R but the French article is only a stub really, so might fail N etc anyway. Some references are in English... as an IP ed I can't create a new article without a lot of rigamarole, but I can edit existing pages... 84.236.27.182 (talk) 00:44, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dang, the one time in my life I could have said "hold your horses" and didn't :) as you can see, I'm translating it, so technically it is now an article and not a redirect, I obviously to do that had to remove the RfD tag from it but I don't want it to get lost here. So far, it seems as if he is notable, but I haven't done much checkref yet. 84.236.27.182 (talk) 01:44, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to do a Wikidata link from FR to EN but it keeps warning me that my IP will be published etc. So a confirmed user might have to do that for me... I know how to do it, but it won't let me. 84.236.27.182 (talk) 01:57, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Procedural close, please. I've translated the French article to English. If the closing admin could please add the Wikidata link that would be handy - as an IP editor it seems I can't do that. (It says I can, but in practice I can't.) I've translated as faithfully as I can, and checked every link, no doubt there are lurking typos and mistakes but on the whole I think it is better than nothing. 84.236.27.182 (talk) 03:20, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We haven't an {{R from title without diacritics}} at Francois Mathet. The search engine seems perfectly capable of finding this without the need for one, I mention it purely for completeness. 84.236.27.182 (talk) 04:29, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for creating this article. I've added the redirect. Colonies Chris (talk) 09:06, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My pleasure. It could do with English RS, and I imagine I shall find some in the Racing Post or something, or at Tattersall's, but I wouldn't bet on it. I have been trying for years to improve our articles on bookmaking, with very little success: it always gets reverted to do it all in decimal odds, so I gave up on bothering to write and add pictures for Tic-tac and so on. The list of runners and riders should really be a table, but there was only so much I could do in a short time. 84.236.27.182 (talk) 11:36, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the good work, ip. It seems someone has sorted out the interwiki links as well, so it looks like we're done here but do drop me a note on my talk page if there is anything I've overlooked. Thryduulf (talk) 12:20, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

William Neville (born c.1338)[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was split results. No consensus between deletion and keeping the (born c. 1338) redirect, consensus for redirecting Sir, and a rough consensus for keeping (Lollard). signed, Rosguill talk 16:40, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

These redirects should all be deleted. c.1338 is the wrong birth date, and "Sir William Neville" or "Lollard" alone (the latter I created myself but regret it) can refer to many people. These links are of course used nowhere important so a deletion will cause no disruptions. Avis11 (talk) 18:48, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have to say, 'can refer to other people' is not a normal standard for deletion. If it can refer to other people who don't have Wikipedia pages, then there is no reason not to retain it as it is pointing to the only person on Wikipedia of that name. If there are other Wikipedia pages that the name might refer to, then there is a better case to convert it into a disambiguation page rather than to delete it. However, this is all contingent on how likely it is too be used as a search term, and though it is unlikely that anyone is going to do a search with a date approximation in parentheses, and "(Lollard)" is an unnatural syntax for a naive search but might be used by someone familiar with Wikipedia disambiguation (and when they start to type it the search window will suggest the correct name in real time, so it is probably moot), I don't see how 'Sir William Neville' would not be a reasonable search term. So, I would say definitely delete (c. 1338), ambivalent about (Lollard) but weak delete, and keep Sir William, converting it to a disambiguation page if relevant. Agricolae (talk) 19:50, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, Sir William Neville can be redirected to the William Neville disamb. "Lollard" I created myself a year ago, but I wish I had moved to "Lollard knight" right then and there so there wouldn't be an extra idle redirect. Avis11 (talk) 02:48, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"c.1338" isn't plausible since the article and the source therein give the date as c.1341 (the fact that it's an approximation is irrelevant, the number is still different, so it's not likely to be searched). "Lollard" doesn't sound good alone; I created this redirect myself and I wish I hadn't. Avis11 (talk) 02:53, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Katrina Hurricane[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep per WP:SNOW. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 22:33, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Who would switch words in page titles? There are no similar redirect pages like Wilma Hurricane, Dorian Hurricane, etc. However, it is similar to "Kong Hong", in which was previously deleted at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 August 27#Kong Hong. Seventyfiveyears (talk) 19:35, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong keep. This is a harmless {{R from modification}} that is extremely well used with over 1000 hits last year, likely driven, in part, from the five article-space links. Incoming links from outside the English Wikipedia are also likely. Thryduulf (talk) 20:07, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Thryduulf. It isn't in the way of anything, and helps facilitate the searches of this average of 3-5 people per day. The title says it all. Regards, SONIC678 22:09, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Gets a good deal of use and isn't harmful. Deletion does not accomplish anything but make it harder for users to find what they are looking for here. Hog Farm Bacon 22:16, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, this is well used and unambiguous, unlike the cited example. The nominator has yet again failed to understand WP:OTHERSTUFF: the fact that something else does not exist could just as easily mean there are other redirects to create, not that this one should be deleted. If it is to be deleted, it should be on its own merits, not that of other redirects. Since the only other reason the nominator gave is more of a question that has already been answered, this makes it an easy keep, and would suggest that Seventyfiveyears withdraws this. -- Tavix (talk) 22:20, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep in use and WP:CHEAP. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS arguments in nom are irrelevant.Polyamorph (talk) 08:18, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. --BDD (talk) 18:38, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Delete per WP:RLOTE, other than having an FA on frWiki, I don't see any connection between this subject and the French language. signed, Rosguill talk 18:30, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

La Maison d'Âpre-Vent is apparently the French title of Bleak House. Are readers of the French Wikipedia being directed to the English site? Rosguill, I find the comments above confusing. Rwood128 (talk) 19:35, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Rwood128, the premise of RLOTE is that we should only create redirects from other languages if the subject has an affinity to said language (e.g. El amor en los tiempos de colera but not El sueño de una noche de verano). You can read the full justification for this position by following the link to the essay. As Bleak House doesn't have any particular connection to the French language, the norm would be to delete the redirect. signed, Rosguill talk 20:39, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, this seems logical, as any discussion of La Maison d'Âpre-Vent should be included in the Bleak House article. Anyone searching for the French article on the novel will google La Maison d'Âpre-Vent. Interestingly the French articles on Dickens often seem better than the English ones! The result of the discussion was retarget to Clifton Heights Orange & Black. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 08:15, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The section no longer exists and the article does not mention a newspaper. "Orange and Black" is ambiguous with Clifton Heights Orange & Black which several similar redirects target. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 06:57, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Seventyfiveyears:. User:Blablubbs and I have been discussing this on its talk page, and please excuse me because I got rather distracted but of course you may want to read how far we've got. We're not even certain whether the common name was the "Orange and Black" or the "Black and Orange", sources seem to be about fifty-fifty. 84.236.27.182 (talk) 03:39, 7 October 2020 (UTC) WP:STRIKESOCK. -- Tavix (talk) 00:37, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Cobra (disambiguation). (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 08:14, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bringing this to RFD as it has been pointed to Cobra (disambiguation) and then reverted at least three different times (all by different users). The disambiguation page covers multiple topics written in all-caps, and based on pageviews [1], the current target is not the WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT by usage (much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined) among them: it gets about 120 per day, vs. 90/day for the UK's Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms (but with enormous spikes recently), 160/day for India's Commando Battalion for Resolute Action, and 60/day for COBRA (art movement). Also per WP:DIFFCAPS, someone typing in all caps probably isn't looking for cobra either (c.f BATMAN, COWS, GREEN). 59.149.124.29 (talk) 05:43, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
