DJH[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was move DJH (disambiguation) over redirect. -- Tavix (talk) 13:38, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

When I google the acornym the most common use is DJH Models, a company doesn't have an article but does have a list entry at List of scale model kit manufacturers, followed by the German Youth Hostel Association whose German acronym is DJH, while on Wikipedia these are about equal. The TV series in way down the list so I think a retarget is best, but to German Youth Hostel Association or make the disambig primary? Thryduulf (talk) 00:07, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Make disambiguation page primary. I was the original redirector (nine years ago) but I don't remember my reasoning. Maybe the Google results have changed since then. But it sounds like we don't have a primary topic. StAnselm (talk) 03:25, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Make disambiguation page primary. Thanks for creating it Thryduulf. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 12:58, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Inventor of the first Lifeboat[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. signed, Rosguill talk 06:09, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This claim seems to be a bit dubious, see [1] - BBC states that a Henry Greathead made the first lifeboat. Hog Farm (talk) 22:43, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Regardless of whether he invented the lifeboat, the redirect is clearly useless. -- Pingumeister(talk) 23:41, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Lifeboat#History where the various claims to this title are/can be discussed (some currently are, some are missing). It's a useful search term but there is no unambiguously correct single answer so no one person should be the target. Thryduulf (talk) 00:14, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as ambiguous but not a good candidate for disambiguation. I'm not sure what Thryduulf is looking at, but Lifeboat is a disambiguation page with (rightly) no history section. -- Tavix (talk) 01:04, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I may be wrong but I think they meant Lifeboat (rescue)#History which makes a lot more sense.--69.157.252.96 (talk) 02:08, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
But there are several other lifeboats that give this information: Lifeboat (shipboard)#Origins, Rescue craft#History, and even Airborne lifeboat has multiple sections depending if you're looking for the British or American lifeboat. -- Tavix (talk) 03:20, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Delete. It sets a slightly dodgy precedent. Deb (talk) 08:23, 15 May 2020 (UTC) PS - I know it was me that created it, but only as the result of moving the article to a better title. Deb (talk) 11:56, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Neutral: I'll abstain from giving an opinion per Tavix above. --Stay safe, PRAHLADbalaji (M•T•AC) This message was left at 14:35, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Marble Man[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was disambiguate. Thank you for the draft, Shhhnotsoloud. -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:06, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not used exclusively to refer to this topic, but I'm not convinced that disambiguation is necessarily the best idea. The potential targets include the current target, which doesn't have Marble and Man in that order in the article, Marble Man: Marble Madness II, which is a redirect, and then Robert E. Lee who was sometimes known by this nickname. Also, I'm not sure if there's a strong connection between the current target and the redirect or not. Hog Farm (talk) 22:41, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Disambiguate. I think "Marble Man" is an adequate translation of the film title, so there are 3 choices: enough for a disambiguation page. I've provided a draft. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 13:44, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate - I think these three topics warrant a disambiguation. Even if the film's title isn't exactly "Marble Man", the words are close enough that some users might search for it that way. The inclusion of the "See also" section in Notsoloud's draft further strengthens the rationale. Furthermore, if the connection for the film isn't deemed strong enough, I think the "See also" section would be a suitable place to include it. The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to List of Dragon Ball characters#Doctor Myuu per discussion. (non-admin closure) Pandakekok9 (talk) 07:26, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional character that isn't mentioned in the target article and is also miscapitalized. —Xezbeth (talk) 04:56, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Refine to List of Dragon Ball characters#Doctor Myuu, where he's mentioned under his correctly spelled name General Rilldo (and where that name redirects). I can see "Rildo" as a plausible misspelling for "Rilldo," and the searcher might forget to capitalize his name. Regards, SONIC678 16:54, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to List of Epic Rap Battles of History episodes. Given the number of redirects involved, I'm asking 1234qwer1234qwer4 and other editors interested in this outcome to do the section targeting. signed, Rosguill talk 06:08, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to the corresponding anchors at List of Epic Rap Battles of History episodes. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 13:37, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete all, don't retarget. We have previous consensus for deletion, at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2017 July 11#Abe Lincoln vs. Chuck Norris. These all pollute the search box, and are very unlikely to be linked to. Having redirects of every episode of a YouTube series risks setting a ver WP:COSTLY precedent. UnitedStatesian (talk) 15:36, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all per UnitedStatesian. CycloneYoris talk! 18:57, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom, these are standard {{R from episode}}s. So long as there is information about these episodes, it is helpful to have these redirects in place to easily guide searchers to the information they would be looking for. -- Tavix (talk) 19:08, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget as helpful and not too search-bar-obstructing. J947 [cont] 21:52, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all and don't retarget North8000 (talk) 15:14, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget all - Plausible and useful terms that get the reader where they would potentially like to go. Only possibly takes up one line of the search suggestions anyhow given the disparite starting words (if they all began with e.g. "epic", the pollution argument might hold some water). — Godsy (TALKCONT) 18:10, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget per nom, Tavix and Hog Farm. Thryduulf (talk) 00:16, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If this is kept I believe Abe Lincoln vs. Chuck Norris should be restored since it would mean that the consensus on episode titles has changed since that was deleted.--69.157.254.64 (talk) 14:37, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

speedy delete - one of the top results after searching "Mike Pence" into the search bar, it isn't a presidential campaign for 2020, obviously, and it misinforms any readers who see it. MyPreferredUsernameWasTaken (talk) 21:21, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per WP:ASTONISH. Hog Farm (talk) 22:32, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as misleading. While it might be relevant to a 2020 presidential campaign by Mike Pence, one does not presently exist (afaik) but the redirect plausibly misleads people into thinking one does (or in future years, did). Thryduulf (talk) 00:22, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ambiguous. There's Ye Olde Curiosity Shop, among other things. Hog Farm (talk) 16:45, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. This is not really ambiguous in the usual sense, as it's a very generic name for many non-notable shops in many different places, so the current target is almost certainly what most people are looking for. Of the many other aritcles with "Ye Olde" in the title, Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe seems to be the only that also includes "Shop" or "Shoppe" so a hatnote to that article and a link to special:search/intitle:Ye Olde either in the hatnote or a see also would seem to serve people at least as well. Thryduulf (talk) 00:29, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak keep. Hog Farm leads with a compelling example, but my instinct, for the want of any statistics, is that most people searching for "Ye Olde Shoppe" are seeking information on the cliché. I've strolled down Western Avene noshing on a vatrushka from Prioshky Piroshky, and Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe didn't penetrate my awareness. The generic "Ye Olde Shoppe", on the other hand, has gotta be familiar to a huge audience. —jameslucas ▄▄▄ ▄ ▄▄▄ ▄▄▄ ▄ 01:18, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. It's a less common variant, but still has some uses: this exact number for example appears on the 1910 Admiralty Arch in London (which is probably the reason why the redirect exists). However, we don't seem to have redirects for other numbers following this pattern, apart from MDCCCCLXVIII for 1968. – Uanfala (talk) 17:23, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Maio" is sometimes used in Italian as a name (take Maio of Bari, for instance), but I'm not sure about it as another form of "Mario" (the aforementioned guy's first name was Maione in Italian). Possibly for this reason, these redirects got FAR fewer pageviews than their targets in 2019. Regards, SONIC678 15:16, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ambiguous; there doesn't seem to be a primary topic nor enough to disambiguate, thus delete. Self-references like this should be avoided in mainspace especially if ambiguous ... and yes, I'm nominating XfD at XfD. J947 [cont] 02:17, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. This is not actually ambiguous due to the differing capitalisation (Xfd vs. XFD) from everything you linked to. It could perhaps cause minor confusion among those miscapitalising other things, but that is resolvable by hatnotes. Glades12 (talk) 07:04, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have no opinion about the disambiguation proposal. Glades12 (talk) 13:12, 14 May 2020 (UTC) However, I do weakly oppose retargeting to XFD. 13:48, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep- I would say typing this in with only the second letter not capitalised is clearly someone looking for XfD processes on Wikipedia and not all that ambiguous. As a second option create disambig, namely one linking to the the Douglas XFD aeroplane, the XFD language if we've got an article for it, and to Wikipedia:Deletion process#Deletion discussions. Reyk YO! 07:10, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate per Reyk. --Pandakekok9 (talk) 11:33, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note as I added this originally and want to provide my context for insight. I added this because we have AfD, CfD, TfD, MfD, FfD. However, I made the mistake these go to disamg pages. I apologize for the confusion and see the discussion appropriate to bring up. I would be supportive of it redirecting to Douglas XFD with the hatnote or a new disamg. – The Grid (talk) 14:00, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate by retargeting to the newly created dab page at XFD. We should avoid differentiating solely based on capitalisation differences when those differences are so small (XFD vs xfd? – yes; XFD vs. XfD? – no). I don't think retargeting to the non-reader-facing part of the project namespace should ever be an option. – Uanfala (talk) 16:07, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
