Gervais School District[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was procedural keep. Creation of article, list, or disambiguation page at this title is encouraged. Deryck C. 11:58, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect is somewhat misleading, as Gervais High School is not the only school in the Gervais School District. Beyond this, I would like to eventually complete the pages of Gervais School District, the associated Elementary School, and Middle School. Additionally for discussion: if a Gervais School District entry is to be written and the redirect is kept, would it be acceptable to overwrite the redirect with new content? dross (c · @) 22:05, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Dross: Overwriting redirects with content is not only possibly it is encouraged. I think in this case a stub article that said Gervais School District is a school district in city and/or county, state, along with a list of schools the district and anything else encyclopaedic you can find in a few minutes searching would be the best bet here. Thryduulf (talk) 00:55, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: @Dross: Indeed we would encourage you to overright the redirect with a new article straight away. But until you are ready to do that, would you prefer to keep or delete the redirect in the meantime?

VTGR is no longer used in Very-high-temperature reactor and I can find no other target. There are no links to this redirect. Leschnei (talk) 16:10, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. My research matches that of the nominator. Thryduulf (talk) 18:47, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. What is the point of redirects if they need to be backed by internal use ? VTGR were Soviet high-temperature gas-cooled reactors. Until someone write an article about them it is good that VTGR redirects to their generic parent. It would be better to add a word about them in the article, but I don't know where. Skippy le Grand Gourou (talk) 19:46, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • The point is that someone who does not know what VTGR means will just be left confused by this redirect. We don't have any information about the topic at present and we shouldn't imply we do. Thryduulf (talk) 20:36, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Simulation[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was no consensus/moot. There is no consensus to delete the redirect, and now the redirect has been replaced with a stub/start article. At this point, I also do not see another relist further clarifying consensus. If the community believes that the current content at The Simulation should be moved to The Simulation (album), please start a move request on Talk:The Simulation. (non-admin closure) Steel1943 (talk) 01:24, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"The Simulation" should redirect to Born of Osiris, as there is no other article with this name, and The Prodigy has its own article. Jax 0677 (talk) 14:11, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. My research finds that, if anything, Simulation hypothesis is the primary topic but this is mixed in with sufficient variety of other uses that the very generic phrase is best targetted at the dab. Thryduulf (talk) 18:50, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. I retargeted this and I find adding "The" is just too generic to distinguish it from other uses. Ss112 01:11, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Because it's a yet to be notable 2019 album and because it's a redirect? It could be reconsidered if it were a detailed article and would claim primary topic, but that is not the case here. It would have to be as notable as the band who released the album. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 00:26, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I don't see an unreleased album as being the primary topic here; redirecting to a DAB page is correct. power~enwiki (π, ν) 20:08, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think it's fine to have the article at The Simulation (which would entail a procedural close; a WP:RM would be the correct forum if people disagree). power~enwiki (π, ν) 20:10, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Spouse of a notable person. No notability themselves, and I do not think we should make redirects for family members without some indication of a significant tole. DGG ( talk ) 09:14, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Refine' to Robert Rinder#Personal life where they are mentioned. Redirects from non-notable spouses are very common and, unless there are disambiguation issues, useful and harmless. Thryduulf (talk) 16:39, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure about this one. The redirect is an {{R with history}} referencing a film that Gorrilaz was attempting to create around the 2007–08 timeframe. Per the article, it seems the band lost interest multiple times in finishing this film project, and it never got completed. In other words, the redirect is confusing, and I’m not sure if the history is worth saving. Steel1943 (talk) 20:58, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Gorani (Language)[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. I was tempted to call this a WP:Trainwreck but figured that the comments here would support deletion in both cases, albeit for different reasons. There is consensus that "Gorani (Language)" with a capital L doesn't serve any useful disambiguation purpose because we also have Gorani (language). There is some disagreement over whether "Gorani language (Gorani)" is useful, but on balance the arguments seem to point towards a conclusion that the bracket ought to same something that isn't "Gorani" or "language" to be useful, so this redirect can be deleted. Deryck C. 11:56, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not useful: miscapitalisations are fine, but not when they appear inside the disambiguator (note that Gorani (language) already exists). The second redirect uses an implausible disambiguator that doesn't disambiguate at all. – Uanfala (talk) 16:33, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. The mis-capitalized disambiguator is implausible, and the search bar will recommend Gorani language if anyone starts typing it, anyway. Cnilep (talk) 04:55, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep one. I edited redirects.
Gorani language (Gorani)Gora dialect .... there is a similar redirect Gorani language (Zaza-Gorani)Gorani language
Gorani (language)Gorani language .... there is a similar redirect Gorani (dialect)Gora dialect
Delete only redirect Gorani (Language) --SrpskiAnonimac (talk) 14:02, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
SrpskiAnonimac, I'm not sure I see your point about Gorani language (Gorani): the disambiguator in the parentheses simply repeats the language/ethnicity name and it doesn't help in disambiguating between the two. If we are to model a redirect after Gorani language (Zaza-Gorani), then it will have to be something like Gorani language (Slavic), as "Zaza-Gorani" is the name of the higher-order language group (though that's not really a good disambiguator as it's too narrow and virtually unknown; a general, more widely recognisable name like "Iranian" would have been better). – Uanfala (talk) 16:31, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to String literal#Delimiter collision. This discussion raised an interesting question: Do we think our readers want to search about three quotation marks, or about a single quotation mark by wrapping it in an open and close quotation mark pair? The rough consensus seems to be that the three quotation mark interpretation is more plausible, and 59.149 raised a good point that this is a search one can do on Wikipedia but not most search engines (which will parse this as a bunch of search modifiers). Deryck C. 12:48, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure that this title with three consecutive quotation marks (or, possibly, a quotation mark inside quotation marks) is useful. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:40, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Triple quotation marks are apparently used in Python (the usage is described in Python (programming language)#Expressions and there are some examples at Here document#Python), but I don't know there isn't something similar in other languages, and I'm not completely sure this is the kind of thing we would want to have redirects for. – Uanfala (talk) 19:13, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. FWIW, this and some related articles were previously declined at AfC. The page was created by the blocked User:Xayahrainie43. It seems impractical and unnecessary to create articles for every possible character and operator, quoted or escaped in multiple ways. They seem unlikely to be searched for. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 05:04, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to String literal#Delimiter collision, which discusses the general reason why one might put three quotation marks in a row in various programming/scripting languages (there's other uses besides Python, e.g. Batch file#Quotation marks and spaces in passed strings.) Also, perhaps a bit of a WP:IAR opinion: I personally think it's useful for Wikipedia to provide results for these kinds of un-Googleable search terms. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 06:29, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Disambiguate. I've put a draft under the redirect notice. We have more uses of "re-skin" in the (automobile) rebadging sense than in the computing sense. If this RfD is closed as disambiguate then also create Re-skin as a redirect. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:57, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to People counter#Business metrics. Galobtter (pingó mió) 06:55, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned in target article. Steel1943 (talk) 14:56, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to People counter#Business metrics where this usage of "Footfall" is explained. I'm about to create Footfall (disambiguation) (Footfall is a novel). Thryduulf (talk) 14:19, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. "Footfall" may be mentioned at Thryduulf's proposed retarget, but not "average daily footfall". -- Tavix (talk) 01:55, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Not in those exact words, but we need to credit our users with some intelligence and that includes understanding that "Footfall measures the number of people who enter a shop or business in a particular period of time." is relevant to "average daily footfall". The target is significantly more useful than a redlink. Thryduulf (talk) 10:24, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • Someone searching "average daily footfall" is going to want information on that term, and the suggestion you provide is too broad for that purpose. I can envision several reasons for searching this term, even if the term itself seems intuitive. Is this an industry standard or well-used metric for measuring footfall? Perhaps someone wants to know how to calculate it. Does this metric use well-defined parameters, such as a set period of time to average from? (a month? a quarter? a year?) If not, then would averaging two days be okay, or does there have to be a minimum length of time? -- Tavix (talk) 14:23, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
        • So just because we don't have everything that someone might be looking for we should make it more difficult to find what we do have? That is completely contrary to the spirit of Wikipedia and actively harmful to readers. Any more information about footfall will be added there as well, so it is clearly the best target. Thryduulf (talk) 16:47, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
          • Wikipedia does not have any information on "average daily footfall" so we should not be misleading readers with a redirect saying otherwise. It's really that simple. -- Tavix (talk) 03:56, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
            • Even though we already did for anyone with a modicum of intelligence I've gone ahead and made it explicit that footfall can be averaged over days. Thryduulf (talk) 15:49, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was keep. Redirect has been restored. Sending the article to AFD. -- ferret (talk) 21:00, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No mention in article Abote2 (talk) 10:44, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Keep - Despite not being mentioned in the target article, it is definately the suitible redirect point Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:43, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Keep - There isn't a reason to redirect this to Roblox. It'd be like redirecting To The Moon to RPG Maker XP - while made with the program they aren't directly considered a feature of RPG Maker XP/Roblox. Piklies (talk) 13:37, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a discussion to keep the article about Jailbreak, but to keep the redirect to Roblox, versus deleting the redirect outright. -- ferret (talk) 14:19, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Keep The Roblox article needs expansion on some of it's more popular games, and I'll take care of it shortly here. The game itself though is not independently notable. As much as I feel this game is non-notable, I feel sending a brand new redirect to RfD is a (unintentionally) underhanded way to delete the article history. -- ferret (talk) 14:12, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. -- Tavix (talk) 15:11, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

An ambiguous phrase that isn't mentioned in the target. It doesn't look as though any content from the article that was at this location in 2006–07 was ever merged in the target, so there are no attribution-related concerns. None of the other articles that mention this phrase strikes me as a better target. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 15:37, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as the term is not a common phrase in the game. Searches also point to the term in a different game called Realm Grinder. Then there's some album/single called The Dragon Lineage of Satan by some non-notable band named Pact.AngusWOOF (barksniff) 00:45, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
