Unlikely typo Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 21:20, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per the notice and link added to the redirect when it was created. Until 1967, the New York Times nameplate had a period and was apparently a big deal when it was removed: What has God re-wrought?" asks a letter to the editor. "No period in the New York Times masthead? No tittle to your title? The weather unboxed? 'All the News' restyled?". -- Tavix (talk) 21:24, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, apparently that's true. Not a big deal except in the typography world, but I'll concede this now a likely search time. Withdrawn. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 21:32, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Douglas Martin (reporter)[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. ~ Amory (utc) 02:27, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned anywhere in the page. We don't create redirects to the NYT for every NYT reporters out there, and we shouldn't. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 20:59, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nominator. Also because there's multiple journalists by this name and the other, older one is more likely to be notable [1]. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 07:30, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as an obituary writer for the New York Times he appears in over 200 references here in Wikipedia that have not been bracketed to form links. Clicking on a few obituary links that have the "author=" empty, he is the author. A better target would be List of The New York Times employees, and add him there, if not there already. Someone is already writing an article on him in their sandbox. --RAN (talk) 00:23, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. WP:REDLINK may be wise if he's notable. Note to closer: if deleted, Douglas Martin (journalist) should also be deleted as WP:G8. -- Tavix (talk) 01:00, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
He is in list List of The New York Times employees along with dozens of other without articles. --RAN (talk) 13:59, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was speedy deleted as WP:G7 by Amortias. -- Tavix (talk) 21:25, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, "2017" was a typo and the article has already been moved to "2018 San Bruno, California shooting". No need to keep this redirect, so please delete. Thanks. --Another Believer (Talk) 20:58, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely typo Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 16:02, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom, not helpful. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 17:25, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: How can it be "unlikely" when it appears on 22 articles? Obviously, this is a plausible redirect. This redirect is back from the days before we tagged different kinds of redirects; I just added {{R from misspelling}} a moment ago. --Closeapple (talk) 17:47, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. This misspelling is not helpful, and per several searches through third party engines, not used outside of Wikipedia. In fact, NYTI doesn't exist, meaning that the use of such a combination of capital letters has no notable connection with the New York Times (and, if it was created, I'd nominate it for deletion per my comment about third-party search engines.) In fact, most of the incoming links were used in references or piped links, and thus seemed like clear accidents on Wikipedia; thus, I have been bypassing these links as pure cleanup as these in no way show usefulness as a redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 18:39, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Closeapple. I'm surprised that it has been used in 22 articles, but there you have it, it's an obviously plausible typo. -- Tavix (talk) 18:42, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, Should we also create The SUn, The BEatles or The GUardian ? .... Obvious answer is no, Keeping this could also give someone a great idea of creating "New York TiMes", "New York TimEs", "New York TimeS" .... Point is as per Steel it's not helpful in any way, shape or form. –Davey2010Talk 19:13, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This redirect has existed for almost ten years, and so far it has given nobody any ideas to create the redirects you mention. I don't think the answer is as obvious of a "no" as you say it should be. What harm would come from creating those redirects? It's not like "The BEatles" signifies a separate topic than "The Beatles". Besides, there's objective evidence that the nominated redirect has been linked to (WP:R#K4) so there is really no reason to do anything with it. -- Tavix (talk) 19:41, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was unaware of that but still I believe it's a useless redirect, I agree the random caps don't signify separate topic however the point I was trying to make is that we don't need random capitalised redirects. –Davey2010Talk 20:35, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - it's linked from zero articles, not 22, plus a very small number of talk page typos (one, I think). The typo (note the I in TImes is capitalized) is not plausible. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:56, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • That's because the links have since been fixed. -- Tavix (talk) 20:27, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely typo Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 16:02, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak Delete: Not in current use, and swapping the "Ti" while simultaneously missing the shift key seems like a rare combination to me, though someone must have thought of it at some point back in 2005. It didn't have a redirect tag template: I added {{R from misspelling}} just now. --Closeapple (talk) 17:53, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Unlikely misspelling. That, and why is this transposing of letters more important than the other possibilities? Steel1943 (talk) 18:40, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Unless the creator hit 2 letters at the same time then I fail to see how or why this would need to be created ? ..... –Davey2010Talk 19:15, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete how does New York get properly capitalized but Times does not get an auto-correct treatment and then becomes a typo? Implausible. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:18, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - We can't be responsible for every fumble-fingered typo. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:53, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete most likely an implausible typo. Can't be resposible for every possible misspelling of every article title/existing redirect, or Wikipedia would probably be substantially larger than it is at current with most of the "mass" being redirects. --TheSandDoctor Talk 19:14, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely typo, the properly spaced version would appear in search anyway. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 15:57, 3 April 2018 (UTC) Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 15:57, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I was not aware of the previous nomination, I withdraw this then. I think a search resulting from a copy-paste from an address bar could be likely. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 21:01, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete unlikely search term. –Davey2010Talk 19:20, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, a plausible misspelling and therefore a useful redirect as evidenced from the incoming links (two at the time of this writing). I'll add it to {{R from misspelling}} so the bots know to fix it. -- Tavix (talk) 19:23, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • New York Times" does the job just, We shouldn't keep crap for the sake of keeping crap, Not all trivial typos such as this need creating. –Davey2010Talk 20:38, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • No, "New York Times" does not do the job when "New YorkTimes" is a different string. Plausible typo redirects are useful for helping people find what they are looking for, and we shouldn't deny that because someone thinks it's "crap" (WP:R#K5). REDIRECTSARECHEAP. -- Tavix (talk) 20:46, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
WP:COSTLY. Whenever someone links to New YorkTimes, it's best to have a redlink to flag the typo. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 21:02, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If it had been added to {{R from misspelling}}, the links could have already been fixed by now. Until the links get fixed, anybody using it gets exactly where they need to be without any issue. That does not happen when there is a WP:REDLINK—which signify that an article should be written at that title, which we do not want. -- Tavix (talk) 21:06, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. A space between one set of words but not the other set is unlikely. Also, NewYork Times doesn't exist (and shouldn't per my comment.) Steel1943 (talk) 19:29, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per Headbomb's reasoning. Newspaper has never combined NewYork or YorkTimes together while leaving the rest with a space like that. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:25, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Again, we can't cover every typo. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:57, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was keep. There was a whole RfC about this. Beyond My Ken, if you read WP:CSD#R2, you'll see that it applies only to redirects FROM the mainspace to (some) other namespaces ~ Amory (utc) 01:00, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unneeded redirect as the draft is now an article 146.95.78.97 (talk) 14:56, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per WP:RDRAFT, considering that the nomimator is not the creator of the target page. (So thus, this redirect is not eligible for WP:G7.) Steel1943 (talk) 18:56, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, draft space is for drafts. There is no longer a draft at this title, so there's no need to maintain the title. -- Tavix (talk) 19:27, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Helpful to the creator (if they return and see their draft no longer exists) - REDIRECTSARECHEAP. –Davey2010Talk 20:39, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
