Musgraves[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was disambiguate. -- Tavix (talk) 01:38, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Propose retargeting to Kacey Musgraves per {{R from surname}} as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Musgraves"; The Musgraves and Dennis Musgraves are other topics, both of which are not linked from any navigational pages. However, I would be fine with a retarget to Musgrave if that would be more appropriate. feminist 17:55, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Expand to disambiguation page that mentions all of the above targets. UnitedStatesian (talk) 18:07, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dabify / Set index. Kacey Musgraves seems to dominate the web searches, but isn't known solely by her last name. Could favor the band as the primary topic, but not sure how notable that band is if it doesn't have many links? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 17:40, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dabify per above. In terms of pageviews, Kacey Musgraves has two orders of magnitude more than the rest combined [1]. Does this translate into her being the primary topic? I'm not sure she's ordinarily referred to as just "Musgraves". Regardless, if her article is made the target of the redirect, then a hatnote would have to be added and I don't think this is the optimal solution in terms of reader experience: Musgraves receives only about one view per day, and the benefit of landing this one user directly on the article they could have been looking for is more than offset by the inconvenience of having a hatnote to go through for the target's 1,200 other daily readers. – Uanfala 14:51, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Shield Volcano.[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete Shield Volcano. While there's non-trivial history, nothing has been merged to the main article so there isn't anything that's required to be saved for attribution purposes. As for Notable public houses in the United Kingdom., there's two history merges I've made to fix a couple cut-and-paste moves. Notable public houses in the United Kingdom. contained the history between 5 July–2 August 2006, and Notable United Kingdom public houses contained the history before 5 July 2006. That has all been merged to List of pubs in the United Kingdom. Since there was a real move in the middle of the history of Notable public houses in the United Kingdom., I've finally gotten practice working with parallel histories! (note: it's not fun). Anyways, since it's now safe to delete it, and there's consensus to do so, it has been deleted. -- Tavix (talk) 21:06, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Contested R3s (too old to qualify as "recently created"); I think the period at the end of each makes them unlikely search terms, and we don't normally keep these around even when links exist. (Wikipedia. being an exception, of course) UnitedStatesian (talk) 17:54, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete The extra period makes it useless as a redirect. Pichpich (talk) 21:30, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete agree useless Legacypac (talk) 06:33, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. Both redirects have non-trivial editing histories. For the list of pubs there's the appearance of a cut-and-paste move, while Shield Volcano. had a content-fork of the main article that doesn't appear to have been merged. – Uanfala (talk) 11:45, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete extra period typo. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 17:28, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. This may be the full titles + name of Takht Singh, but there is no indication in the target article that this is the case, and I would posit that this is VERY unlikely search term. UnitedStatesian (talk) 15:54, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently unnecessary XNR TimothyJosephWood 15:46, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking about using the redirect for edit summaries. Basically instead of just saying: "Grammar Fix" it would link users to the Wikiproject Grammar page if they wonder why their grammar was fixed. groig (talk) 17:33, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak retarget to copy editing, otherwise delete. @Groiglery1217: your edit summaries would be served equally well by a link to WP:GRAMMAR, piped as [[WP:GRAMMAR|Grammar fix]] if desired, without need for a cross-namespace redirect. Thryduulf (talk) 10:57, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Let's delete. I like the [[WP:GRAMMAR|Grammar fix]] idea the best. groig (talk) 13:05, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was keep. Deryck C. 17:20, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am planning to mass-create redirects in this format, where such a page does not already exist and target article has an existing Geography section. Please comment at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Proposal to create .22Geography_of .5Bcity.5D.22 redirects. This is not a request for deletion. I am linking the discussion here to WP:CANVASS editors familiar with redirects to the discussion. Thanks. feminist 15:11, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. I know this is not a deletion requested, but as some editors have opposed the linked proposal, I feel it useful to explicitly support the existence of this redirect (and others of this nature). Thryduulf (talk) 11:22, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

per WP:XY; previous precedent set for deleting these types of redirects Joeykai (talk) 07:00, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: Created by an editor subsequently placed under a community ban from creating new redirects (for creating hundreds of suspect ones to burnish his page creation count), this follows the pattern of many of them: an obscure NN hockey player redirected to a single incident in his career. Fails XY, in that this is no more likely a target than Spokane Chiefs (the amateur team for which he played five seasons and is in the top five of all-time career games played), University of Alberta, the college hockey program where the subject was a five-year starter, or the three pro teams for which he's played to date. This redirect makes no sense. – Train2104 (t • c) 04:00, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. We definitely don't need cross-namespace redirects to featured content nomination discussion pages. Thryduulf (talk) 09:01, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. No such book title, only general searches are for the Wikipedia article itself. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 17:35, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
