The result of the discussion was deleted Not even a help page, but rather a page asking for help in someone's userspace, which is not an appropriate use of a redirect. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:21, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is wikEd the only rich text editor users can use? Seems outdated, especially in the era of VE. – Train2104 (t • c) 21:07, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

University of Alaska[edit]

The result of the discussion was retarget to University of Alaska system and hatnote at the target. (non-admin closure) feminist 10:44, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For thirteen years this pointed to University of Alaska System, the article on the series of Universities that make up UA. Then, in March this year a user decided it should "be redirected to the actual university," apparently meaning that only UAF is a real university and the other two main campuses in Anchorage and Juneau (not to mention the numerous regional campuses) are not the "actual" university. This is apparently based on the fact that it was the first campus and was formerly known by that name, but per the principle of using common, recognizable names, I don't think that makes any sense and propose restoring the previous target. The establishment of the modern system occured 42 years ago, and the regional campuses are now commonly known as UAA, UAF, and UAS. Beeblebrox (talk) 16:51, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. I think by "actual" university, the editor meant "flagship" university. I just went though Category:Flagship universities in the United States. Most of the Flagship universities in this list don't include a place in their title, so they wouldn't have this problem. That leaves twelve states. Of the 11 others, "University of [State]" redirects to the flagship university in Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, Texas, and Wisconsin. "University of [State]" redirects to the university system in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Indiana, Massachusetts, and North Carolina. Just looking at Alaska, I can see the case for both. UAF, being the flagship campus, has the longest history, and was known as "University of Alaska" for a lot of its history. However, the University of Alaska Anchorage is by far the largest college in the system (they have double the enrollment of UAF). -- Tavix (talk) 17:31, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The change came in 1975, during the oil boom in Alaska that saw Anchorage turn in into the economic hub of Alaska and its largest city by a considerable margin. And today UA is not only the three main campuses but a statewide network of regional schools as well, so to suggest in Wikipedia's voice that only UAF is the "real" University of Alaska is misleading, and does not reflect the way the university is reported on by sources. UAF is an important educational resource for Alaska, no doubt, but it is only part of a whole. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:16, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect to term not mentioned in target page. One of many created by user who was then blocked indef for vandalism including creating useless redirects. Deleting this RD will allow article New Tab (novel) to move to correct article title. PamD 22:18, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Tab "Tab" is a word with so many meanings that I'm not sure we should direct this anywhere except a dab page. My first thought was Oh, they reformulated Tab cola, but maybe I'm showing my age a bit there. Beeblebrox (talk) 22:14, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Tab (GUI). Whether there are other meanings or not, this is the likely primary topic at any capitalization. A hatnote there should resolve any other meanings. bd2412 T 03:26, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
  • Retarget to Tab (GUI) and hatnote to the DAB and the novel, per arguments above. Retargeting to the novel would be a surprise, and at least under Google Chrome, the most popular web browser in the world, the command for creating a new tab under the file menu is capitalized "New Tab", so the book doesn't have exclusive claim over that capitalization. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 05:10, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Here's my next batch of "faulty crystal ball" film redirects (with a bonus TV series!). See here for the previous batch. As these years have already passed, it's impossible for these films to be released that year. It's implausible that someone would type these redirects in the search bar due to the incorrect year disambiguation. (raw list available on talk page) -- Tavix (talk) 00:52, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
