Capital of Israel[edit]

The result of the discussion was keep. Aervanath (talk) 21:21, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect targets Jerusalem#Jerusalem as capital of Israel. I'm surprised this doesn't have its own article. There is an ongoing dispute about what this title refers to ("It's Jerusalem!" "No, it's Tel Aviv!" "No, it's just West Jerusalem!" "No, there is no capital of Israel because Israel is not a country!"). It just seems POV to have this page redirect to Jerusalem, even if it does go to an appropriate section, because it still suggests that Wikipedia thinks that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. Shouldn't this become an article or something?  — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs)  16:54, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep this redirect was to Jerusalem#Jerusalem as capital of Israel, the paragraph containing a neutral POV on the issue. It is mentioning the UN Resolutions and condemnations, it also stated there is no Embassies in Jerusalem. Any other redirect would suggest that Israel has no capital city. The redirect should refer to the article of the city and not to external one. The "Jerusalem as capital of Israel" paragraph is fine. Sokuya (talk) 08:03, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Jerusalem already amply discusses issues other countries have with Israel's designation.Icewhiz (talk) 09:32, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. As Icewhiz said above me. The article itself already disscusts the given conflicts. דוב (talk) 11:55, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect back to the Positions on Jerusalem per Wbm1058: redirects should go the most specific relevant article. Also, this has been the redirect's most stable target over the years. – Uanfala (talk) 19:24, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect back to the 'Positions on Jerusalem' article since that seems to give the most context and provide the most specific, stable target. It should be pointed out once again that 'Capital of Palestine' also goes to that page. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 01:36, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep – I approve the rationale given by ‎Huntersgordon when they changed the target in December: Though it exists as a controversy, redirection to the "Positions of Jerusalem" article does not characterize the disagreement as well as the "Capital of Israel" section does in the Jerusalem article. A country's choice of its own capital should be the natural target of "Capital of Country X". Because of the disputes and lack of international recognition, we point to a dedicated subsection, aptly called "Jerusalem as capital of Israel". Meanwhile, the article "Positions on Jerusalem" lists what various nations think of Jerusalem, not only as capital of Israel, but also as capital of a future Palestinian state, with historical details on the East/West divide, and much more. This complex article does not directly answer the question "what is the capital of Israel?" The section Jerusalem#Jerusalem as capital of Israel does answer properly and neutrally. — JFG talk 22:27, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per JFG. I suppose it's easy to feel distant when you're on the other side of the world, but the fact of the matter is we have a sovereign state who exercises control over a city and calls it its capital. It feels silly, then, if a reader effectively asks us "What's the capital of Israel?" to answer "Well, um, you see, there are a lot of different positions countries have taken about Jerusalem, and..." I appreciate that there are further complexities there, but this seems the most useful configuration for readers. --BDD (talk) 22:19, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of both. Author of expected novel has died without starting it and family will not complete the series nor allow ghostwriting.[1] Wyliepedia 16:41, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep WP:R#K3 they aid searches on certain terms. The statistics demonstrate that these are enormously plausible search terms (the version with "Z" gets a dozen hits per day and then suddenly spiked to 2000 on news of her death). Since the novel will never be completed, it is very unlikely to ever get its own article, so the logical place for content about it is at the current target (unless someone can suggest a better one). 59.149.124.29 (talk) 17:11, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WP:USEENGLISH. Implausible redirect from Japanese original Chinese translation of Japanese name. Equivalent article exists in Japanese and Chinese Wikipedia. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 16:14, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete, as nom says it's hard to see what purpose this might be serving. Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:16, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong keep per WP:FORRED, numerous past RFD precedents and the thousands of other similar redirects in Category:Redirects from Japanese-language terms. This is not a "Chinese translation of Japanese", this is correct Japanese. (If the wrong character variants are showing up on your system and 安倍 looks like the Chinese version, "thank" Han unification and your OS designer; in any case the underlying codepoints are the same.) 59.149.124.29 (talk) 16:56, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per IP. Unless our Wikipedia article is wrong, this is his Japanese name. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 18:44, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Original language of the subject can redirect as 台北 redirect to TaipeiUY4Xe8VM5VYxaQQ (talk) 16:23, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • True, however this applies to original language of the subject. The titles introduced are actually Chinese and redirect to Japanese topics. In such case, cross wikipedia language links are better (which exist for both topics.pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 16:52, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

requesting deletion as the redirect is based on a typo - the correct phrase is "Eesti Merelaevandus", which has been correctly redirected. should not qualify for speedy deletion under R3 as the redirect is five years old. Ashela (talk) 17:06, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
