Delete Redirect could plausibly be turned into a full article. Per WP policy, if the redirect could plausibly be expanded into an article, and the target article contains virtually no information on the subject, it is better that the target article contain a redlink than a redirect back to itself.     • No, it wouldn't; that's a wholly erronious assertion and one that indicates no research was done prior to !voting. If the only driver who had driven for the team was Carl Long, one might be able to make the case for covering the team on the driver's page - even though they are emphatically not "alternative name[s] for the same subject" - but he is not. Template:PM5K[edit]

The result of the discussion was Keep. The name of a template is not visible in the rendered page, so it has mostly internal significance to editors working on the topic. A proper reason for deletion might be that it's confusing or uses a term that is needed for something else. Nobody argued this, and Jax 0677 made the case for keeping most clearly. Editors seem to agree this should be kept. PM5K (an article-space redirect) is a different matter and might be discussed in the future. EdJohnston (talk) 22:29, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think a PM5K is also a small transistor/resistor IC used for reducing voltage on microprocessors, but I should have to check my books for that and I haven't them here. A PM5K is a power modulator with five kilohms resistance. Costs you about 39p depending on whether you go to Maplin Electronics or Radio Spares or whatever your fancy be. I think I have lost the plot a bit: you were discussing the template, I was discussing the article. Still, I think the two are pairs and snares together: PM5K redirects to the article Powerman 5000 (entirely separately from the templates, of course). Keep - Blabbermouth.net has frequently referred to "Powerman 5000" as "PM5K". If "Template:PM5K" is deleted, then "PM5K" redirect would also need to be deleted. It should probably not be purged as the "PM5K" redirect has been around since 2005. There are similar template redirects such as {{IPFW}}. Comment - Powerman 5000 has a navigation box while the Sony Bloggie Camera MHS-PM5K does not. Barring an alternative use for {{PM5K}} (and PM5K), the redirect should be kept. --Jax 0677 (talk) 01:00, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: judging on discussion above "PM5K" is a known allias for Powerman 5000, which makes this template redirect useful for mnemonic and keyboard-saving purposes. Expand redirect to dab. the phrase without WP:CAPS usually means financial difficulties, but as it stands the capless redirect might do better as a rudimentary dab page with (1) financial difficulties, (2) Dire Straits (3) Dire Straits (album) (4) "Dire Straits" Mads Langer song.   • Keep Since the MediaWiki software is case-insensitive by default, it's best not to treat variations in capitalization differently except in very clear cases, WP:DIFFCAPS aside. Here, we don't do WP:DICDEFs, so there's really no question about primary topic. And for what it's worth, I think "dire staits" refers to any difficult situation, not necessarily financial; Wiktionary agrees. According to LinkedIn (which may not be an entirely reliable source), "Active Voice, LLC was founded in 1983. In 2001 the primary application was purchased by Cisco Systems, and the remainder of the company was purchased by NEC." I'm not sure if that warrants redirect to Cisco Systems or NEC, or perhaps some other treatment. I have just created Active voice (disambiguation), where it is mentioned. The result of the discussion was retarget to Google Search. The default for redirects is to keep. This is a long-standing redirect, over 9 years old and the view of the commentators is that it is a plausible typo. Such redirects are only deleted if they are in some way harmful. WP:RFD#HARMFUL states "Therefore consider the deletion only of either really harmful redirects or of very recent ones.". Conversely, deleting could be harmful due to breaking long-standing external links. Since Google.com goes to Google Search it would be illogical for this redirect not also to point there. NAC.
