List of Soviet people[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Keep. Ruslik_Zero 18:47, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't it problematic? ibicdlcod (talk) 10:11, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. While the title does suggest there might be issues, the first sentence of the target article shows that the information people are looking for is in that article, "This is a list of people associated with the modern Russian Federation, the Soviet Union, Imperial Russia, Russian Tsardom, the Grand Duchy of Moscow, and other predecessor states of Russia.". Whether that is a suitable grouping is outside the scope of RfD and should be discussed on the article talk page if you have any issues. Thryduulf (talk) 10:42, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Although having said that, the scope of the current target may or may not match its introduction as it's missing e.g. Manshuk Mametova (1922-1943) a Kazakh Soviet and first Asian female recipient of the Hero of the Soviet Union medal (I found her on the Lit of Kazakhs article). Whether that omission is deliberate or not I don't know (question asked at Talk:List of Russian people). I'll leave notes for the Russian and Soviet WikiProjects about this discussion. • Keep as Soviet people are covered in the list. - Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 22:48, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Create a list A list can be compiled out of the Russian list to deal with Soviets. -- 76.65.128.43 (talk) 04:33, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • It could, but that would duplicate the Russian list unless there is a change in inclusion criteria there. Keeping this redirect as it currently is does not prejudice that happening at a later date of course. Thryduulf (talk) 10:56, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • The content for the Soviet period can be removed from the Russian list, and a {{main}} inserted in its place. The Soviet list can then be split into groupings by SSRs which would each have a {{see also}} to the related post-Soviet state lists (and possible pre-Soviet lists). -- 76.65.128.43 (talk) 05:45, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Emmett Smith[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. Non-admin closure. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 11:36, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Delete - Emmett Smith is an actor, Emmitt Smith is a football player. GoingBatty (talk) 04:57, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep you can stubbify an article on the actor at the location if you wish, but as we don't seem to have an article on him, and this is a reasonable mispelling of hte football player, the redirect should exist. Emmett Smith (actor) can be created as how other non-primary topics are named -- 76.65.128.43 (talk) 06:25, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - given that Emmett Smith seems to be uncredited in basically all his movie roles, I doubt there's any chance of creating a legit article. The most likely reason for the search is thus (I suspect) a misspelling of Emmitt Smith (that was Google's assumption when I searched for Emmett Smith, FWIW). Thus, the redirect should be kept, to benefit most searchers/linkers/etc. WilyD 07:26, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as an {{R from misspelling}}. The actor does not appear notable at this time, but if they become so an article can be created at this title without deleting the redirect. If one is created, it and the footballer's article should be linked by hatnotes. Thryduulf (talk) 07:48, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Movies 12[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Delete. Ruslik_Zero 18:42, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No clear connection between the redirect and its target. (This is actually a remnant of old — December 2008 — pagemove vandalism.) WCQuidditch 01:30, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. Movies 12 appears to be a brand/chain of multiplex cinemas possibly owned by or related to Cineplex Entertainment's Cinema City brand, but that article doesn't mention the term at all so I don't think it would make a good target. Thryduulf (talk) 07:59, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wacky Wheel[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Retarget to Wacky Wheels. Ruslik_Zero 18:45, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Non notable ferris wheel. Starship9000 (talk) 00:47, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Wacky Wheels as a {{R to plural}} and add a hatnote there to the current article. That has the benefit of giving a bit of context to explain the destination. Thryduulf (talk) 05:59, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - it makes more sense to me to keep the redirect to the correct target and maybe hatnote the misspelling than the reverse. Correct spellings are probably going to be more common than misspellings. WilyD 10:50, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect per Thryduulf. Not worthy of an article, but redirects are free. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:22, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep and hatnote per Wily. Sending something to the wrong target (even if the mis-speelling were more common) seems very bad practice. Rich Farmbrough, 23:56, 3 January 2013 (UTC).[reply]
  • Delete - its a non notable kiddie ferris wheel. Starship9000 (talk) 00:47, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • I've struck your "delete" because, as the nominator, you have already given your recommendation and each person only gets to do that once. Also "non-notable" is not a reason to delete a redirect - see WP:RFD#Delete. Thryduulf (talk) 10:28, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion so a clearer consensus may be reached.

This brought back memories. Having looked up the proposed target, I remember playing that in my lunch hour on some very high-end Olivetti PC AT clones (we apprentices only got IBM XTs with CGA or monochrome displays).
  • R from plural So: It is in my opinion non-notable as the "junior" (children's?) Ferris wheel at a theme park (nothing wrong with it being in the article, it is just non-notable in that it would not deserve its own article). I can imagine there are other Ferris wheels worldwide with similar spellings.
But should we R from plural? Who is likely to search for Whacky Wheel and expect to get a particular ride at a particular theme park, and who is likely to search for a 25-year-old PC game that involved more than one vehicle with more than one wheel? (After all, it was not that you had to control one unicycle with a mouse — we didn't have mice in those far-off days.)
I'd prefer to delete the redirect and leave it to the search engine. But if it must stay, better to R from plural, as proposed. 02:26, 11 January 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by SimonTrew (talkcontribs)
  • Keep pointing to the Ferris wheel, missing out the "s" is both unlikely and incorrect. Siuenti (talk) 20:21, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate, as there's also a Wacky Wheel at Kennywood, and there appears to be nothing with this title notable enough for an article. Peter James (talk) 12:02, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
