The result of the discussion was transwiki to Wiktionary. There is no consensus about what to do with the page after the transwiki is complete so the redirect will remain with no prejudice against further action. Asking for expert advice seems like a very good idea though. Thryduulf (talk) 00:03, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can't find any evidence behind the original claim for this redirect (that it's like valedictorian in Indian schools). Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:40, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Restore the stub and copy to Wiktionary. The redirect isn't much use when the term isn't mentioned in the article, and the subject would be unlikely to satisfy WP:GNG, but wikt:WT:CFI only requires that the term is in use, which is evident from multiple Google hits ([1], [2], [3]). – Arms & Hearts (talk) 20:28, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Seeing that, I agree it would be okay on Wiktionary, but I don't see the stub fitting Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines. Jackmcbarn (talk) 20:55, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agreed, I didn't mean to suggest keeping the stub on a long-term basis, but rather temporarily restoring it to begin the transwiki process. After a Wiktionary entry is created it could be overwritten with {{wi}}. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 21:48, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Restore article per Arms & Hearts. The least that could be done would be to just keep the redirect, but since the target page provides no information on the topic in question, the optimal decision would be to restore the redirect as its own article. — |J~Pæst|  02:43, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. With little effort one can find several references to "topper" as a rank in Indian education, e.g., here and here. Found these and many more by typing "Indian education topper" (without the quotes) into a search engine. – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 23:53, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Transwiki to Wiktionary as WP:DICDEF or retarget to Valedictorian, and mention "topper" as an Indian equivalent there. Paine's sources use the term, but aren't about it. --BDD (talk) 16:13, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an expert so I'm not sure which way to go. Is "topper" closer to valedictorian? or is it more like the dux veteranorum (pt.wikipedia) in Portuguese education? Only somebody who has been-there-done-that would know for certain. So the term "topper" seems to be in need of an expert to write about it. Until then, perhaps it is best to leave it where it is and request an expert on the talk pages of the redirect and the target? – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 17:25, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • The redirect target has been nominated for deletion. If the file ends up being deleted, then the redirect can be deleted as G8. If the file is kept, then the redirect can probably be deleted as the file only was under this name for a very short period of time. --Stefan2 (talk) 14:10, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
