Fé Mhóid Bheith Saor[edit]
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was Delete (or speedy delete per G7). Nobody finds it useful, not even its creator. Ruslik_Zero 18:37, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
- Fé Mhóid Bheith Saor → List of national mottos (links to redirect • history • stats) [ Closure: keep/delete ]
Has been removed from target page as incorrect RashersTierney (talk) 20:19, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
- It is a lyric from the Irish national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann, would it be useful to retarget it to that article or the Lyrics section? Thryduulf (talk) 00:40, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
- I suppose it would be as useful as having any other line from the anthem direct there. In the official version faoi is used rather than the apparent alternative spelling fé, but I don't have a very strong view either way on the new proposed redirect. RashersTierney (talk) 01:41, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
- I created that redirect on the assumption that it was the motto of the Republic of Ireland, as listed on the List of National Mottoes page. Given that we now know that the information provided on that page was inaccurate, this page has no purpose. Anthony Lynch (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 16:39, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
- Agree. Thanks for clarifying. RashersTierney (talk) 20:27, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

- Retarget to Amhrán na bhFiann as suggested above, since this is a line from that song. Ego White Tray (talk) 03:11, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
- The song has many lines, and there is nothing particularly significant about this one. Apart from the first line of the anthem, where there may be an arguable case for a redirect, how is it reasonable for random/arbitrary lines to be redirected? RashersTierney (talk) 23:45, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
- It is reasonable to redirect any string of text to any target, it's not unreasonable not to. Redirects hang on the question of usefulness not reasonableness, and as WP:R#KEEP point 5 says "Hint: If someone says they find a redirect useful, they probably do." Google Scholar is your friend[edit]

- The result of the discussion was Speedy delete. This was created in 2010 by a user later found to be sockpuppet of a user banned in 2008, so qualifies under WP:CSD#G5. It is also a borderline instance of WP:CSD#G10, apparently being created just to disparage another party in a discussion. Thryduulf (talk) 18:00, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
- Google Scholar is your friend → RTFM (links to redirect • history • stats) [ Closure: keep/delete ]
I'm sure some people say things like "Google Scholar is your friend" for "read the fucking manual," even if they're not really the same thing. But google the phrase and most cases seem to be straightforward statements about the utility of Google Scholar. With no mention of Google Scholar on the destination page, I think we can safely delete this creation of a banned user. In fact, given that it was created at the exact same time as that user saying the phrase himself, it seems this redirect never had a purpose besides insulting other users. --BDD (talk) 16:49, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

- Netinho → pt:Luiz Franco Thomaz (links to redirect • history • stats) [ Closure: keep/delete ]
This was a non-functional hard redirect until yesterday. Now it's a functional soft redirect. But in either case it's (IMHO) pretty much useless. Redirects to foreign language WP projects are generally not particularly useful to English speakers on the English WP. TexasAndroid (talk) 15:52, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
- Delete per WP:REDLINK. See also Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2012 September 23#Luiz Franco Thomaz. Thryduulf (talk) 18:04, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
- Delete WP:REDLINK if it has an article in Portuguese, then it is viable for an article in English. -- 70.24.247.66 (talk) 02:49, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
