A collection of WPP: short cuts/redirects[edit]

The following are cross namespace redirects to various WikiProject pages (the short cuts should have started with WP:, not WPP:), except for one that redirects to a portal talk page (I am of the impression that one should have started with PT:, but I could be mistaken). I was mistaken (see below).

What exactly is your objection to these? I was under the impression that WPP was a fairly common prefix for Wiki Project pages; and it seems useful. (The portal talk page serves in practice as a Wiki Project page - for some reason it's never been moved to a more appropriate place, but that redirect is just as good or bad as the others.)--Kotniski (talk) 12:29, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
WPP: is not on the list of "official" Wikipedia namespaces; there has been plenty of precedent for deletion of redirects with this prefix (WPP:OREGON, for example), and there has been a series of RfD discussions about them in recent weeks. All of the above are cross namespace redirects from titles that simply do not belong here. Many of these can be replaced by "legal" short cuts quite easily, if not trivially.   • Delete all. The obvious objection is that these could be trivially replaced by the usual WP: shortcuts that don't pollute article space. There's no need for a separate WikiProject pseudo-namespace. — Gavia immer (talk) 16:30, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

      • Since you mentioned it, I took a look at all the trivial "possible replacements" (in order of discussion):
WP:BIO redirects to WP:Notability (people) (but WP:BIOG is already in place as a substitute short cut for WPP:BIO);
WP:CM points to WP:WikiProject Classical music (WP:XM is available to replace WPP:CM);
WP:COPY points to WP:Copyrights (but WPP:COPY can be replaced by WP:Copy editor, WP:Copyeditor, and WP:GCE);
WP:DAB points to WP:Disambiguation, while WPP:DAB and WP:WPDAB point to the same project page (WP:WikiProject Disambiguation);
WP:DIS points to WP:Disruptive editing and should be a disambiguation page as this could be misunderstood to be a possible short cut for WP:WikiProject Disambiguation and WP:WikiProject Disney;
Wpp:ga should be deleted without replacement as WP:WPGA already serves its purpose (WP:GA points to WP:Good articles);
WP:GT points to WP:Good topics (WP:GIT and WP:WPGT are both available to replace WPP:GT);
WP:NIN points to WP:WikiProject Nintendo (a hatnote should be place on the target page) - WPP:NIN can be easily replaced by WP:WPNIN as WP:NINE already exists as a short cut to the same page;
WPP:PL has no corresponding "legitimate" analog in Wikipedia space, and [[PT:PL]] links to an article "PL" in Polish Wikipedia;
WP:SERIES is a short cut to an essay (WPP:SERIES can be replaced by the more logical WP:MEDIAF or WP:WPMF, and WP:MEDIA links to a disambiguation page).

All right, delete all, as long as alternative shortcuts are created and advertised on the target pages.     • Redirecting wouldn't be a bad idea if the abbreviation appeared somewhere in the article, but it doesn't, so a redirect to there would not give the proper context needed for it to make sense.   • Not this one. It creates the illusion of a FP: namespace existing in Wikipedia. It doesn't. Delete. Also, two pages with completely different names state FP:FAA to be a short cut (which means that if there were a legitimately-named short cut, say P:FFAA or P:FSAA), a disambiguation page would be needed instead.
