Navy of BelarusArmed Forces of Belarus[edit]

The result of the debate was Keep. Tikiwont (talk) 09:11, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is anyone actually going to search for the "navy" of a landlocked country? Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 16:01, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per below. And yes, landlocked countries can have a navy. --UsaSatsui (talk) 19:53, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Navy of Sudan below. Someone looking for the navies of all the countries of the world, or for all the navies on a particular continent might look these up. And rather than getting a blank (which is ambiguous - is there no navy, or have we just not covered it yet?), the reader might find information that a particular country doesn't have a navy (and mention that it's landlocked) helpful. In the lead to Armed Forces of Belarus (where the redirect Navy of Belarus leads to), it explains that Belarus has no navy, which is highly relevant to anyone trying to look up its navy. • Keep Austria is a landlocked country, but it wasn't always, it had a navy. The navy ran river operations on the Mississippi during the Civil War, so navies don't need to operate at sea. Vermont was a landlocked "country" and it had naval forces on Lake Champlain during the Revolution. Bolivia is a landlocked country and it still has a navy. 70.51.8.158 (talk) 05:07, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Merchant Marine of Switzerland (a.k.a. "Swiss Navy"). Sometimes the "navy" is actually part of the country's army (see Military of Switzerland#Naval Patrol). 147.70.242.40 (talk) 19:56, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Navy of SudanMilitary of Sudan[edit]

The result of the debate was Withdrawn. -- JLaTondre (talk) 20:21, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Originally an article about a non existent navy in a landlocked country, I redirected it to Military of Sudan. I feel stupid.

Also nominating these...

Ron Ritzman (talk) 00:07, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - these are good redirects. Sudan appears to have a navy (see below). Anyone looking up the navies on the others needs to be informed that they don't have any navies. And the redirects lead to the relevant information on Wikipedia:

Nomination withdrawn[edit]
Sometimes doing new page patrol, I ask for advice on IRC about how to handle an article. What I first saw was several new pages about something that "didn't exist" so I asked for advice. First it was "redirect" which I did, then we all felt silly about making "navy of" redirects to landlocked countries that didn't have navys. Since the first redirect and primary target of this nom has a navy, I'll withdraw the nom, as far as the rest go, I can't guarantee someone else won't nominate them. One thing you might consider doing is updating Navies of landlocked countries with information about Sudan's navy. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 01:03, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Landlocked countries occasionally do have navies, and even still, it's a valid redirect for people who may be looking for general armed forces info. --UsaSatsui (talk) 19:53, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
