MacDonaldsClan Donald[edit]

The result of the debate was Retargeted to Macdonald. -- JLaTondre 19:53, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MacDonalds also commonly refers to the chain McDonald's 141.153.188.101 23:07, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to McDonald's, because of the plural (unlikely to refer to "Clan Donald"). -- Renesis (talk) 23:55, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to disambiguation page Macdonald, not clear which of the meanings is intended. Kusma (討論) 12:15, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I disagree with this idea. the page Macdonald doesn't even mention McDonald's because it is not even close to "McDonald's", yet that is still what the user was most likely referring to. McDonald's is by far the most common/closest relation to Macdonalds, whether it is a plural for "Macdonald" or not. We need to use common sense in this case. -- Renesis (talk) 17:04, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • McDonald's is mentioned as last item on the page. Kusma (討論) 17:17, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
        • Sorry, I missed that when I scanned the page. I wouldn't have a problem with a disambiguation page, if it could somehow detect what redirect they came from and present the most common case. I still think the most common desired page in this case would be "McDonald's" and to help them get there it needs to be more prominent than the last link on the redirected page. -- Renesis (talk) 17:46, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to disambiguation page as per Kusma. The best thing to do is to go through the pages that point to the disambiguation page and point them in the right direction. That way we can point MacDonalds to the disambiguation page and still have everything point where it should. I'm going to start going through the links that point to the disambiguation page and start de-ambiguating them. --Brad Beattie (talk) 01:44, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment. I've reduced the number of pages pointing to the redirect page. --Brad Beattie (talk) 09:11, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the debate was Kept. -- JLaTondre 19:54, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nonfunctional cross-namespace redirect to a Special: namespace page. Protected, so no {{rfd}} tag. Gavia immer (u|t|c) 20:12, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep, it exists for its talk page. Since there is no Special talk: namespace (which would be infeasible), we use structures like this. --Rory096 08:00, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep for the reason given above. ViridaeTalk 12:08, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete, Koushiro (Kōshirō, ex. Koshiro Matsumoto, Koshiro Take) is different japanese first name. Helgo 09:05, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Comment - Kanji (Japanese and Chinese) proper nouns require careful handling. there are many different words with similar pronunciation in kanji language. A little misspelling can cause a serious confusion. 219.116.14.70 07:18, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Even assuming it is a misspelling such redirects are good. Note that "japanese" is a misspelling in English too. Gene Nygaard 21:14, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Hello, I am a Japanese. Sorry for my poor English. I have a question for everyone. There are many redirects to Tōgō Heihachirō. Can you distinguish between correct spellings and misspellings? How do you do it? 218.226.26.252 09:17, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The article title is, IMHO, a recent change to a misspelling for that purpose because it is not how he is generally known in English. Other than that, it doesn't really matter much whether any of the other spellings used in redirects are legitimate variants in the spelling or misspellings, nor if any two people could agree on the facts in that regard, does it? In other words, it doesn't matter. Gene Nygaard 06:43, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for replying. All the spellings of the article title and redirect names are "correct" (at the moment). I don't know that how Tōgō is generally known in English. Even if it still an unknown, Japanese name has more than one correct spelling in English (Reference: Romanization of Japanese, and WP:MOS-JP). My real family name is "Takahashi". It is one of the two correct spellings. I spell Tōgō's name "Tougou Heihachirou". It is correct too. I may possibly create a new redirect. However, I have no margin for misspelling because redirect page is in general use for other correct spellings. many users can't distinguish between correct spelling and misspelling. If I should misspell, I shall want to delete it. There is no other way to express correct spellings of Japanese names. MMTD(I get a account, 218.226.26.252 is me) 17:26, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • I don't know Kasaragi. I think that it isn't famous. But it has a Japanesque sound. Can you write it in Kanji? 218.226.26.252 11:25, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kasaragi OkoiOkoi[edit]

The result of the debate was Kept & tagged {{R from misspelling}}. -- JLaTondre 19:59, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The user who created the article misheard/misread the japanese name. This article was moved (Kasaragi Okoi -> Kisaragi Okoi -> Okoi) and fixed double redirect. Tenga 18:34, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - if one user made this mistake, others will too. Gavia immer (u|t|c) 17:45, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Kasaragi is a placename in Japan. I read target page, this person's family name is neither Kisaragi nor Kasaragi. "O-" is a honorific prefix in japanese. this person's formal name is only "O-koi", the family name is nothing. this redirect is misleading. "Bush Mr. George" isn't a simply typo.
