Effort Values (Pokemon)Pokémon game mechanics[edit]

The nominated redirect was Deleted --Cyde Weys 13:41, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely search term. Effort Values already redirects to Pokemon game meachanics; anybody who would be searching for EVs would not type the parentheses in. Hbdragon88 20:55, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Silver Line (Chicago Transit Authority) -> Pink Line (Chicago Transit Authority)[edit]

The nominated redirect was Kept, if the line wants to go from silver to pink, who am I to stop it? --Cyde Weys 13:40, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Nobody calls it the Silver Line. Everyone knows it as Pink. Georgia guy 17:59, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. An older name for the subject of the target article, and therefore a good redirect. --Gavia immer 19:14, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Gavia immer. —dima /sb.tk/ 03:53, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Day of the BeastPortal:Current events[edit]

The nominated redirect was Deleted, appears to be a neologism ... if it's actually notable and does find its way into the End times article then please feel free to recreate the redirect. But don't add something non-notable to the article just for the sake of preserving a redirect. --Cyde Weys 13:39, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Originally a redirect to June 2006, ie to 6/6/6. A joke past its time. Delete.-gadfium 02:27, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Terrorism against Israel in 2002Violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict 2002[edit]

The nominated redirect was Moved to Violence against Israel in 2002 then old redirect deleted. --Cyde Weys 13:38, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is a POV redirect to a partially related article. There several similar ones but I wanted to see what the feeling was on this before nominating them. Yomanganitalk 12:08, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that as a possible problem, but there needs to be some balance between the requirements of the GDFL and allowing POV pages to continue to exist. I'm not saying "delete and the GDFL be damned" but I find it strange that POV pages can remain live because of the constrictions of the licence because we don't have some method of retaining the edit history without leaving the page public. NPOV is a policy on WP, but a policy that bows to the licencing. Yomanganitalk 10:34, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment If the title of a redirect which has important edit history is deemed extremely POV, it could probably be pagemoved to a more approprate name (make up a new typo if you must) then delete the redirect with no edit history. Awkward, but satisfies both a NPOV and the GFDL in a pinch. BigNate37(T) 10:41, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Wikipedia's policy is that the title of articles must be NPOV. It does not matter too much if a redirect may not be NPOV, as long as the redirect is helpful in some other way (such as preserving edit history or helping individuals who search on the term find content relevant to what they are searching for). --Mathew5000 20:18, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment For all intents and purposes a redirect is an article - it's just an article that fetches its text from a different location. Personally I assume the lack of redirects being specifically mentioned in WP:NPOV is an oversight rather than a deliberate exclusion from the policy. Yomanganitalk 22:04, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: I disagree. Your proposition that a redirect is for all intents an article is not supported by Wikipedia:Redirect as far as I can tell. --Mathew5000 00:19, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - I'd say just about everything in Wikipedia:Redirect deals with problems of the similarity - maintaining the integrity for external links, maintaining the edit history, clarifying the title for the reader. I've got a feeling that neither of us is going to convince the other of our argument though. Yomanganitalk 00:50, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Mathew5000, you say that it doesn't matter too much if we have a POV redirect. Would you be incredibly opposed if we did not have this POV redirect, assuming the edit history was preserved? BigNate37(T) 16:19, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to less POV title. It is important that redirects not be POV, and getting rid of these is a part of what RFD is for. One example that really sticks out in my mind is this page, which used to redirect to "hip hop music". In this case, the edit history must be preserved, however, as was said earlier.
