Portal:Cairo[edit]

Okay, so this portal is pretty unique to my knowledge. Almost every instance of {{Transclude list item excerpts as random slideshow}} uses Outline of Cairo. I was not aware that was something TTH did for some portals he created.

Why would TTH do such a thing? Well, simply put because Template:Cairo is not a navbox... it's just a redirect to Template:User Cairo. That means the portal's subtopics section looked like this. Delete. Automated portal which draws its "selected articles" list solely from Outline of Cairo#Locations in Cairo. It is therefore a WP:REDUNDANTFORK of Outline of Cairo.

Like @MJL, I was not aware of @The Transhumanist (TTH) building automated portals off Outline pages. The markup used is odd, and broke my previous searches. Keep. I'm not aware of any consensus that outlines form an inadequate basis for a portal. I see no reason to automatically prefer an outline to a portal. In principle, it would make perfect sense to delete the outlines in favour of moving the content into the portal. Or just leave both versions where they are, as different ways of presenting an outline of the topic, depending on whether one prefers links or summaries+images (which might depend whether one is logged in or out).
