Why does wikipedia ignore facts and dismiss them as opinion or not true?[edit]

Hi there! It's hard to answer such a general claim, but it probably comes down to the quality of the independent reliable sources involved. If you have a concern about a particular article, per the Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, you start a discussion on the article's talk page to work with other editors to come to a consensus. First, Wikipedia has a parochial definition of reliable source, and does not include first hand accounts.
Second we (TINW) are individual editors, operating under wiki guidelines that are often subject to interpretation. You will get better feedback if you identify the specific articles, editors and issues that you are referring to.
Do I like all of the policies? No, and I've stopped writing large articles because the lack of an effective dispute resolution mechanism allows some editors to create a hostile work environment. Wikipedia's policies border on useless if nobody is empowered to actually enforce them. Instead, we have to go through maddeningly inane drawn-out processes to revert material that in any other organized realm (except politics) would be just a matter of course to correct. I've been an editor for nearly 50 years, so I know what of I speak. I've also been involved in a volunteer grassroots organization for 35 years where everyone's voice counts. In either "realm", disputes over guidelines and common sense, with rare exception, can be resolved in a day or two, most in a few minutes. Meanwhile, in WP, significant changes are made that can stand for years without scrutiny. Yeah, just maybe they'll be corrected some day, but that mantra was uttered when WP was a bit more than a gleam. Now it's so widely accepted, its published material is taken as fact. By that I mean, authors are citing WP as a source, which in turn allows WP editors to cite what these authors write. Please tell me how this situation serves making "knowledge" freely available if the process behind it is so unreliable? Allreet (talk) 15:39, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Spousal categories[edit]

Should wives/husbands be in their spouses' eponymous categories? What about former wives/husbands or partners? Thanks, Sod25 (talk) 06:55, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can you give a specific example? I can think of relatively few people who have eponymous categories. For some of them (e.g. Category:Bill Clinton) the spouse's article is in the category. For others (e.g. Category:Donald Trump and Category:Bill Gates) the spouse's or former spouse(s)'s articles are not in the category. Interestingly, although Hillary Clinton is in the Bill Clinton category, Bill Clinton is not in the Hillary Clinton category. I couldn't find a policy but the usual answer based on a small and unscientific sample seems to be no. Some famous people have a family category as well as an eponymous category, so Category:Ronald Reagan and Category:Nancy Reagan are subcategories of Category:Reagan family. @ONUnicorn I was looking at tennis playeres. Mirka Federer is in Category:Roger Federer for example, but some other non-tennis people I checked didn't have their spouses in their categories. There doesn't seem to be hard a fast rule, so I only put the spouses in the categories I was creating if the categories' subjects contributed significantly to their spouses'/partners's notability. Replace[edit]

2 questions: 1) Re: Wikipedia's "List of stage names"

  I have in my PC about 18000 stage names + birth names, i.e. approximately twice as much as are listed now on Wikipedia.
  What is the best way to upload this, because it would mean that the present list would have to be deleted.

2) I have compiled a dictionary of more than 140,000 English language medical abbreviations in alphabetical order with their explanations, i.e. more than you can find anywhere worldwide. It is written in Microsoft Word. Is this of interest ?

@Lbarrackcavalier: Hello RB! First I must ask, is this person paying you to create the page? Regardless of whether or not they are paying you, you have a COI, which I linked to the policy explaining what to do when you have a COI. Second, if you are being paid, I suggest you read WP:PAID and disclose that you are being paid (if you don't you will be blocked). What are discretionary sanctions?[edit]

I've read through WP:ACDS multiple times, but I still don't have a concrete idea of what discretionary sanctions are. The closest I got was Any uninvolved administrator is authorised to place: revert and move restrictions, interaction bans, topic bans, and blocks of up to one year in duration, or other reasonable measures that the enforcing administrator believes are necessary and proportionate for the smooth running of the project. But isn't it true in general that admins can impose blocks and move restrictions regardless of whether the topic area is subject to discretionary sanctions? They can't unilaterally place revert and move restrictions, interaction bans or topic bans. Regarding blocks: they can place blocks, but the main difference with ACDS blocks is that another admin can't unilaterally undo the block (it can only be undone by consensus at WP:AN or WP:AE, or by ArbCom motion). How to align kit templates next to each other[edit]

The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild[edit]

Hello. I am ZX2006XZ. So, I have been working on the draft for The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild for some time now. Unfortunately, the draft has been in AfC purgatory, meaning that it has been declined and rejected several times despite significant coverage on the film itself. Help with draft article[edit]

Hi everyone. I am a new wiki editor (approx 1 month). I have drafted an article on monochrome astrophotography. I drafted all of this in a word document and then pasted it over to my sandbox. Is it possible for someone experienced to review it before I publish it? help would be greatly appreciated!

What exactly does this do?[edit]

Hi everyone, I've been an editor on Template namespace for quite some time now, and it appears that {{{|safesubst:}}} is used extensively across templates, and I don't exactly know what it's purpose is. Most recently I spotted it at {{They}} but I can't make out its function. Can someone please help me figuring out exactly what it is? @CX Zoom: They are not the same. {{safesubst:...}} performs the substitution as soon as the code is saved (unless something else deactivates it). {{|safesubst:...}} does not perform the substitution on the page where the code is saved, but it does on other pages which substitute the page with the code. How do page logs work?[edit]

When I try to look at the logs for a page I created (John Wayne Bobbitt Uncut) it shows nothing. Other pages show who created and/or deleted the page. Am I doing something wrong? I am using this link. Polycarpa aurata (talk) 21:04, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Polycarpa aurata: That log shows certain activities, but article creation is not one of them, and the article you mention has never been deleted. I think the log is working but none of the logged activities have happened to that page.
If you want stats on who created the page check

@Polycarpa aurata: Everybody gets a page creation log, also IP's (example). But the log is only at the title where you created the page: [2]. The move log only shows a page at the title it's moved away from: [3]. The move is in the page history of the current title but not in the move log. Tool for counting pageviews for created articles per username[edit]

There is some tool hosted in the Wikimedia platform.

Give it a Wikimedia username, then it identifies every article that user has created, and then reports how many pageviews those articles have had since creation.

The result is a count of readers reached for any user's created new articles.

I chaged true info in page UEFA European Championship becasue in Czecho Slovak national team 1976 were more than half players from Slovakia .
Why is there only Czech republic when Slovakia have same deserved like Czech republic. And Snowflake91 maybe dont belive true .
I dont know Wikipedia is for spreading true or no if no it waste time stay here.
