Cite tweet and emojis[edit]

Hi. Is it necessary or optional to copy full tweets (text + emojis) when someone uses Cite tweet? Because I myself use Firefox (PC) and it does not copy emojis or I don't know how to do it. Wario-Man talk 04:13, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Wario-Man: I've used 'cite tweet' quite a few times and I do not think this has been an issue for me. I would think that to 'C&P' the wording of the tweet into the title parameter should be sufficient (including any emojis). It is the wording that is important; although I suppose an emoji 'could' have some impact if the tweeter wishes to convey humour etc. Eagleash (talk) 04:33, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you that wording/content of a tweet matters but I'm just curious how some editors cite 1:1 tweets. Do they use a specific tool or browser? Is there some method to copy-paste both text and emojis (PC user and Firefox)? Wario-Man talk 04:45, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Erika song and Herms Niel[edit]

Was Herms Niel sympathetic to the Nazis when he wrote the Erika Song

Languages in english[edit]

Is there a setting to make the links in the "Languages" column appear in english instead of the "local" name? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:07, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gråbergs Gråa Sång, to achieve this you can enable the SidebarTranslate gadget in your preferences. – NJD-DE (talk) 10:26, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Age restrictions on user rights[edit]

Are there any age restrictions on obtaining user rights? LDr Salvus 13:24, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There are no such restrictions, anyone can become a Wikipedia user. However, there is advice for minors for editing Wikipedia. JIP | Talk 13:29, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) We have few if any ways to verify age; all that matters is that someone seeking user rights demonstrate competence and responsiblity. Some users may oppose minors getting the admin tools but there is no formal requirement. 331dot (talk) 13:33, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You need to be 18 years of age of older before being appointed as Oversighter or CheckUser. There are no age restrictions for other rights. –– T@hmid (T@lk) 13:39, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Some global rights also have age restrictrions. Stewards (who have oversighter and checkuser access) must be 18. OTRS volunteers must be 16. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:55, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How do I change my Wikipedia settings to disable the 2017 wikitext editor?[edit]

Updated Note: My question below refers to the new 2017 wikitext editor. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 23:57, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have been editing for 10+ years. There was always a "system" (procedure) for editing, with which, naturally, I became accustomed (almost reflexively), after so many years and so many edits. Just a few days ago, that whole system (procedure) seemed to change, just out of the blue.

Under the "old procedure", I would type in my edits; and then hit "Submit Changes" (or some such). Period. And the "Submit Changes" button was down, toward the bottom of the page.

With the "new procedure", after I type in my edits, I now get one or two questions that I must answer, before my edit will go through. (I think some type of reminder to add an edit summary; or some such.) And the "Submit Changes" button is now to the top right of the page. And I believe it takes an "extra" one or two steps (clicks) -- when compared with the old procedure -- to have the edit go through.

So, what the heck is going on? Is there some new editing procedure that was put into effect? Or did I somehow change some sort of "settings" in my account? How can I get back to the "old procedure" of editing?

I now notice that my edits in my edit log are marked with a notation that says "Tag: 2017 wikitext editor" (or some such). Which I never saw before. Also, when I logged in with an IP address -- not my regular account -- it allowed me to edit according to the "old procedure".

Please enlighten me on all of this. Thanks! Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 14:55, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Joseph A. Spadaro: you've switched to the new Wikitext editor - you can go to your preferences to disable it. Elli (talk | contribs) 14:58, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Where exactly do I go? I looked under all of the "Settings" options. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 15:02, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Joseph A. Spadaro: it's listed as "new wikitext mode" under the "beta features" section. Elli (talk | contribs) 15:03, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Under "Beta", there is "Beta features" ... then, there is an item that says "New WikiText Mode". There is a check-mark in front of that, in the box. The check-mark is "grayed out" and I cannot click it or toggle it or change it. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 15:07, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Joseph A. Spadaro: do you by any chance have "Automatically enable most beta features" (at the top of the page) checked? If so, disable that. Elli (talk | contribs) 15:11, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Yes, that seemed to work ... that seemed to fix the problem. Thanks so much! One last question: Is this a change that I would have affirmatively made? Or did Wikipedia automatically change this setting for me? I cannot imagine that I went into those menus (that I had never seen before) and starting clicking check-marks that I had no idea of what they were for. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 15:18, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Joseph A. Spadaro: not sure, off the top of my head. Elli (talk | contribs) 15:21, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Joseph A. Spadaro: Have you fiddled with meta-wikimedia recently? I remember tweaking my global settings there. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 18:30, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenryuu: Thanks. No, I never fiddled with meta-wikimedia, as far as I know. I don't even know what that phrase means or even where I would begin to find it or fiddle with it. The more I think about it, I can't imagine that I made this settings change. I wonder if Wikipedia can/did it automatically? Even if it was a computer glitch. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 20:49, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, all. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:02, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Birthdate with month and year only[edit]

Presumably due to worries about identity theft, it is sometimes difficult to find a birthdate. I'm working on a draft article about someone where a source identifies the month and year but not the day. This might be an interesting compromise, providing general information about age but not specific enough for identity theft. However I did a quick perusal of birth date templates, and did not see any that would accept month and year without the day. Are there any? If not, should there be? --S Philbrick(Talk) 16:45, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sphilbrick, even though its name might be misleading, {{Birth year and age}} seems to be made for this.
{{Birth year and age|1966|4}} produces April 1966 (age 58). When the month is not over yet, e.g. birth in May 1966 would show as May 1966 (age 57–58)NJD-DE (talk) 16:56, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Njd-de, That's exactly what I am looking for and I fell for reading the description and not thinking it was going to help. Thank you very much for providing this answer I've already used it. (I note that Syracuse uses the month and year without a day for all of their players and won't be surprised if other schools follow suit, so this will be very helpful.) Editing a title and title use throughout page - Escape The Field[edit]

This question is in reference to the page for the film Escape The Field. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escape_the_Field

The correct title for this film is: Escape The Field

"The" is intentionally capitalized.

Please reference the official film imdb page: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11265320/

As well as numerous articles.

I had edited the body of the page, but it has been re-edited back.

Please advise, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ToastToken (talkcontribs)

Well, consensus is Wikipedia's primary model for decision making, so you would need to get consensus support for this proposed change, which should go through the requested move process. However, I would note that four of the five current sources in use in the article do not capitalize the t in "the" and IMDB is user generated content and therefore not considered an independent reliable source. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:46, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@ToastToken: It was me who changed it to Escape the Field. IMDb is not official. The film hasn't been released and I don't know whether it even has an official capitalization yet. The preliminary poster says ESCAPE THE FIELD in all caps but we are not doing that. Wikipedia doesn't always use official titles. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Titles#Indefinite and definite articles says: "An indefinite or definite article is capitalized only when at the start of a title, subtitle, or embedded title or subtitle." White House Office of Personnel[edit]

We would like to update this page with the name of three persons who served as Director of Personnel during the Clinton Administration — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:8d21:3570:6877:8960:44c4:736c (talk) 19:31, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Who is "we"? If you are connected with the Office, then you have a conflict of interest, and are strongly discouraged from editing the article directly. But you are welcome to raise an edit request on the article's talk page. If you include a citation to a reliable independent published source, your request is more likely to get carried out. --ColinFine (talk) 19:46, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ios 10.3.3[edit]

Seems I have to 'tap to display' every equation in an article using chrome browser. I understand this is because my iPad is older and runs only iOS 10.3.3.

Is there a workaround for me? Are you working on a workaround? (You know what browser and so are being used).

False information about passi surname in your website[edit]

Hi why is this false information about Passi surname in your website?? How can you state the name as untouchable or Dalit??? From where did you get all this information? Please remove this content as it’s not true! Stop spreading false information like Passi’s were untouchable! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:3a80:1361:5148:e44d:786:98dc:47bd (talkcontribs)

They are referring to the Pasi (caste) article, where their edit-request was recently denied as the proposal was unclear. – NJD-DE (talk) 20:47, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then the answer to "From where did you get all this information?" appears to be "From books." Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 22:38, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How can I edit Pristina article on Wikipedia?[edit]

Hi,

I am a new user.

I realized the the article on Pristina ( a capital of Kosovo) has some sort of lock on the right corner and I guess that is why I cannot edit it.

Can you help me be able to edit it?

Thank you Fairifudare
