November 5[edit]

The census of "Ethnic groups in 1897" does not match with the references provided. Please, edit them and correct them according to the source.[edit]

http://gatchina3000.ru/brockhaus-and-efron-encyclopedic-dictionary/119/119474.htm

could you please clarify exactly what article you are referring to? Beeblebrox (talk) 02:52, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you cannot edit said article, you can request an edit request. I am assuming you are referring to the article of Ethnic groups in Russia, in which there is no column for the 1897 census. In addition, I am confused on what the census got wrong, did they get the numbers wrong? In that case, the article provided only mentions climate in parts of Russia, not census data. Please clarify! Happy editing! Heart (talk) 02:56, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Change of Title[edit]

Hi, The title 'Nigerian Turkish International Schools' should be directed to 'Nigerian Tulip International Schools' since the name of the schools have changed. And you may see the change through the websites attached to the article which belongs to the schools. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.164.182.58 (talk) 03:39, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, you can request a move if you want to change the name. Please also read WP:COMMONNAME to see why an official name change may not always mean that the Wikipedia article will also undergo a name change. Heart (talk) 03:41, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bugaboo14, unfortunately accounts can't be deleted due to attribution issues. Just stop editing the account and never use it again. If you're lucky, you may be able to ask for a courtesy vanishing. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:23, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How do I suggest an edit for a protected page?[edit]

It has come to light that one of your pages has an obvious political bias. The page itself is protected, how do you suggest an edit to ensure information remains impartial? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vipereditor84 (talkcontribs) 12:25, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vipereditor84 You should use the article talk page to suggest edits. You can also tag them as a formal edit request(click for instructions) to increase the chance they will be seen. Note that Wikipedia does not claim to be free of bias; this is because Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources state. Any bias in sources will be reflected in Wikipedia- but Wikipedia presents the sources to readers so they can evaluate the sources and judge them for themselves. However, if there is missing information you feel should be included, and you have an independent reliable source for it, your suggestions are welcome. Please understand that Wikipedia is a collaborative effort, where people of all different political views work together to achieve a consensus as to what an article should say. 331dot (talk) 12:35, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please make the correction for 2014 Best Cinematographer in Bangladesh.[edit]

Courtesy link: Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Cinematography

 ' Saikat Nasir

I'm writing from Bangladesh.

Please make the correction for 2014 Best Cinematographer.

It should be MOHAMMED HOSSAIN JAIMY for the movie- BOYSHOMMO.

Shikat Nasir is not a cinematographer. It is a wrong information.

Thank you. Regards

Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources state. If you have such a source for what you say, please offer it on the article talk page; please also review the autobiography policy. 331dot (talk) 13:47, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also, which Wikipedia article are you talking about? I cannot see an article for Best Cinematographer in Bangladesh awards. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:52, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have added a courtesy link to the Saikat Nasir article. TSventon (talk) 14:09, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
According to IMDB, Saikat Nasir and that movie won best screenplay that year. But I seem to remember hearing that Wikipedia questions whether IMDB is a reliable source. [[1]] Uporządnicki (talk) 14:25, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
IMDb is a wiki. Wikis are never acceptable sources. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Takes a strong man to deny... 18:29, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The Daily Star (Bangladesh), Bangladesh's largest English speaking newspaper, also says Nasir won it [2]. We cover what reliable sources say, and they say Nasir won it. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:32, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
One can consider the possibility that the most reliable sources in the world can make one mistake. It seems to me we're finding some conflicting information here, over a straightforward fact that's either correct or incorrect. Uporządnicki (talk) 14:50, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@NoirVozeeWolf: sorry, it is not clear, what exact button you mean. If you mean the button to create a new article/draft, you can use the following input box:

Note that I strongely recommend that you use the draftspace until you have got at least a few articles. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:06, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Mysticism template[edit]

Some time ago, a new WikiProject was created - WikiProject Mysticism. If you go to the talk page of many Wikipedia articles, you will see a template saying "This article is of interest to WikiProject X" - for example, the article on the Pendle witches has on its talk pages saying that is of interest to WikiProject Cumbria and Lancashire and WikiProject Law. How would I go about creating a template saying "This article is of interest to WikiProject Mysticism? This template could go on the talk page of numerous Wikipedia articles, probably most obviously the article on Mysticism but also numerous other articles, including Teresa of Avila, Julian of Norwich and Sufism. Many thanks in advance for any help. Vorbee (talk) 16:12, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Template:WPBannerMeta - you can create a template using this information. You could then create a page such as Template:WikiProject Mysticism. Does that make sense? Thanks ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 16:43, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)@Vorbee: to create the {{WikiProject Mysticism}} template, you would need to use the {{WPBannerMeta}} template. For help on doing so, have a look at the documentation of that template, and the code of other such templates, such as (like you mentioned), Template:WikiProject Lancashire and Cumbria. Perhaps other editors here would be able to help you with the exact code needed to make the new template? Seagull123 Φ 16:46, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and created a template. You can obviously change whatever needs to be changed. Cheers ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 17:15, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for your help. I have tried creating a template for WikiProject Mysticism on the sandbox of my user page, but to no avail. Does any one know what I might be doing wrong? Many thanks in advance for any help. Vorbee (talk) 17:54, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

 Courtesy link: Draft:Cesar Marolla

Hi, I need help on how to create and place an infobox on Professor Cesar Marolla Biography. I would sincerely appreciate it!

Dan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dan.ferratti (talkcontribs) 16:21, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

For basics, please see Template:Infobox academic. You can use the template there to create an infobox; simply fill in biographical information in that template to create an infobox. However, I cannot see a page for a Cesar Marolla. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 16:26, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Usernames & Logging in Support Request[edit]

Dear Wikipedia / MediaWiki

A few years ago I guess I created an account on MediaWiki, and have been donating to Wikipdia Foundation ever since. Now I'm trying to create an account on Wikipedia, but it says my username "atulkaushal" is already taken, and I can't do a password reset because it's not the same Wiki page?

I've been donating for a few years and have decided to increase my donation to support the free and untethered voice of truth. I'm confused about which pages I have accounts and why I can't create a general Wikipedia account with my username.

I'd like to have an account for Wikipedia and (I guess) Media Wiki with the same username so I don't have to keep track of multiple account info.

Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks, Atul Kaushal, MD MBA — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.162.54.161 (talk) 17:26, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Atul. Thank you for contributing to the Mediawiki Foundation, and helping to keep this service going; however there is absolutely no connection between whatever donations you make and any part of your experience using the sites. Nobody apart from a few staff members at the Mediawiki Foundation has any access to any information about individual donations.
As you say, you have an account at MediaWiki. My understanding is that if you log into that account there, you should then find yourself logged in to any WikiMedia wiki you go to; but I'm not very familiar with this area. You may find more information of use at m:Help:Unified login. --ColinFine (talk) 17:43, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@67.162.54.161: You can use the username "atulkaushal" and Your existing password to fill out Special:UserLogin. The software behind Wikipedia will then automatically create a new account for you on the english Wikipedia and connect it to the account on MediaWIki.org so that they ever use the same password, see Help:SUL. Note that if you don't knwo your password, you need to reset it on mediawiki.org because the account only exists locally there. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:45, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wash Me in the River[edit]

Hello,

I created a draft of the upcoming film Wash Me in the River and a redirect of the same name that redirects to Randall Emmett, who will direct the film. I haven't submitted the draft for review per WP:NFF since the film is in pre-production. My questions are: 1.) Did I create the draft correctly? 2.) Was it appropriate to redirect Wash Me in the River to Randall Emmett? Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 19:20, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes on both, I'd say. You are correct that it is probably not ripe for publication yet, since filming has not started yet; but the draft looks fine to my eyes. Re-directing to the director (pun?) is definitely a good solution for the time being. Good work ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 19:33, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Delete a page I personally created for a person[edit]

Hello, I personally create a page for a person, but not he asked me to delete it for privacy reasons. I tried to use the speedy deletion but it has been rejected. Other people from wikipedia contributed to it but only in terms of formatting, while I create the page and provided all the information in it. How can I delete it now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LarissaAineli (talkcontribs) 19:31, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Are you referring to Simon Stringer? In general, once you publish an edit, your content becomes part of the public domain and you no longer own or have rights over it. If there is a valid reason for deletion, you can request it as WP:AFD. If there is anything untrue or defaming about the article, you can delete that yourself. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 19:35, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@LarissaAineli: you may want to direct this person towards these pages: Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Help, WP:BIODELETE, and Wikipedia:Contact us/Article subjects. Seagull123 Φ 20:09, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@LarissaAineli: Once you published the article, you have no more (or less) responsibility or control over the article than does any other editor. Furthermore, the subject of the article cannot require us to to delete the article. However, the subject, not you, can make some requests as outlined on the pages Seagull123 mentioned. -Arch dude (talk) 03:26, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Archived copy of reference uses Adobe Flash[edit]

The article Tendril contains a reference to "Plants: A Different Perspective," a document using Adobe Flash. The article contains links to both the original content and to an archived copy. The archived copy produces the message "This content requires Macromedia Flash Player version 8 or later. Get Flash."

What must be done to access this content? Can the content be converted to another format that can be made accessible to most wikipedia readers?

This same reference appears in multiple Wikipedia articles, which contain the same link to the archive. Comfr (talk) 19:58, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The content no longer exists, due to being hosted on Flash see here. For whatever reason, the wayback machine could not access the actual content, and instead just archived a notice to get Flash. Therefore, I don't think it exists in any accessible form. It seems to have originally been hosted on Yudu and unless there is another archive or copy of it, I think it's inaccessible. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 20:04, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
