Need to add new information to a page I created about a decade ago.[edit]

Today when I created the additional info and image, it was dismissed as not being able to verify that the material and image belong to us. We are the actual artist's Studio and we want to make updates. Can someone help me do this? Maddogtoys (talk) 00:43, 26 July 2020 (UTC)iodatum[reply]

@Maddogtoys: Could you give us some context? The account you're editing from has no contributions other than this request. If your signature was supposed to be for User:Iodatum, the only article they've edited was Stephen Holland (artist), which hasn't been edited for just over a year.

What is the article you're trying to edit?

But in any case, Maddogtoys, it sounds as if you're trying to edit an article about somebody you work with, and upload copyright material. If that is that case, you need first to read about editing with a conflict of interest, and then to understand that we accept copyright material only if the copyright holder has explicitly released it under a licence such as CC-BY-SA, which allows anybody to reuse or modify it for any purpose. Citing date for magazine interview copied to website[edit]

Another user recommended not citing the date given for the magazine, since I don't have a copy of it, but I don't know when it was copied to the website, so could anyone ~~hear~~ here please give me some advice on the subject?--Thylacine24 (talk) 02:05, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We can never trust that the transcription is accurate; so I would just give the data for the interview as it appears on the website, add something like "(credited to Zine Name)" and put the access date for the website. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:46, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is Wikipedia. We do not all march in lockstep. The decision is yours to make. I think you should cite the website and not the magazine because WP:SAYWHEREYOUREADIT. If the website does not give you a date, then there is no date to put in |date=. I agree with editor Orangemike that you should include |access-date=. Because the website credits the magazine, and because we don't really know that that is an accurate credit, I would not add "(credited to Zine Name)".

My page "Donna Hreys" was deleted please explain what happened.[edit]

This is the statement below, I found when I looked for my page. On 1 Nov 2019 "The Blade of the Northern Light" deleted my page..... how is that possible???? I had put hours into my pages and all is gone. Can it be retrieved? thank you Donna Hreys

It was an incomplete but already lengthy hybrid of CV and autobiography. This is something that you, Donna Hreys, may wish to construct on your own website. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. @Donna Hreys: Please read WP:USERPAGE to see what the page is supposed to be used for. It's basically to tell other editors what you do to improve Wikipedia. I attempted an edit, but was blocked due to abuse through the T-Mobile network, my hotspot vehicle. I have no documentation (though there may be some in my mother's files), and can find no reference to it online, so my information is anecdotal only. We walked as far as Salinas, as I had to return to begin my junior year of high school. I was 14 years old, and am a second-generation pacifist and conscious objector. Here is my proposed text. In the summer of 1962 a California arm of the organization organized and conducted a walk from the Submarine Base at Point Loma (San Diego) to Vallejo, California's Mare Island Naval Shipyard, where the Polaris nuclear submarines were constructed, a 500-mile journey calling for unilateral nuclear disarmament. The logo for CNVA-West featured the symbol for Nuclear Disarmament, designed in 1958 by British graphic designer and Christian pacifist Gerald Holtom. Lending urgency to the issue was the occurrence of the Cuban Missile Crisis that same year, and set against the escalation of the Vietnam War during the Kennedy administration.

Also while I am here. Would it be normal to provide a language definition of a name e.g. (四天王, Shitennō) in brackets, without identifying the language, in relation to the WP:MOS. Thanks.

Hi @Lee Vilenski:, @Hoary: There is a lang-de template for stating it is German language, which I used to use. Lee Vilenski, So would ask them to qualify them, possibly provide a link and provide a language link describing them, on one them anyway, what language they are? It not immediately clear it is not Japanese. This e.g. 三沢光晴, translates exactly to Misawa Mitsuharu. I agree with Lee Vilenski in regards to using a more specific lang template if possible. While I understand the kanji to be used for Japanese, uninformed readers may look at that and assume it's Chinese (especially with 四天王). —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 14:23, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The article doesn't currently give the Sino-Japanese word shitennō, let alone add that it's 四天王. And I don't think that it needs to. Three other gratuitous comments. (i) 王 means "king", 道 means "road", but 王道 doesn't mean "king's road". (ii) The phrasing of the article seems ponderous: "Named after the Four Heavenly Kings, this nomenclature was given to the four by Shohei Baba" → "Named (by Shohei Baba) after the Four Heavenly Kings". If publishers shout at their readers in FULL CAPS, we can and should ignore this: "WWE GETS NBC SPECIAL BACK WHEN THAT MEANT A LOT MORE, MAJOR JAPANESE NAMES GET MARRIED, MORE ON EXPANSION OF WWF AND WCW PPVS, TONS MORE" → "WWE gets NBC special back when that meant a lot more, major Japanese names get married, more on expansion of WWF and WCW PPVS, tons more". -- Hoary (talk) 23:04, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

First, Ed6767 I have not seen this thread before now because pings do not work when you add them to an already existing post. Next, I will note that I used edit summaries while YaYaHoPi (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) has barely used them at all. Labeling another persons edit as vandalism is not a proper move either. Y could also have started a discussion on the talk page per WP:BRD but chose to come here instead. Throwing around a term like harassment causes me to have doubts about this editor but I will WP:AGF from this point on. Oromo people[edit]

It is noted that # of Oromos living in: Australia - 2,030 (2014)[4], Canada 3,350 (2016)[5]. But it ignored mentioning tens of thousands living in the U.S.

On the other hand, under "Amhara people," it was noted that 195,260[a][2] Amhara living in United States.

Many credible media outlets shows that Thousands of Oromos protesting in Washington, Minnesota and other cities in America, over the killing f Oromo icon, Hachalu Hudesa and the Most prominent Oromo activist, Jawar Mohamed.

One source, fore example, indicated below.

Is it lack of knowledge or bias due to ethnic tension in the country.

"Bias due to ethnic tension in the country [the USA?]" is unlikely because Wikipedia is a resource written by and for all English Language speakers throughout the world: it's not specifically American.

With "lack of knowledge" you are probably more correct. You may notice that in the Oromo people article, each of the overseas populations listed, including the two you mentioned above, are cited to a Reliable Source.

In order to list the corresponding number for Oromo people in the USA, Wikipedia needs to cite a similar reliable source that gives that number. While the source you have referenced certainly confirms that there are some Oromo in the USA (or at least that there were 250 at a demonstration in Minnesota in 2014), it does not give their total number in the USA.
