Hello, This is the help desk for asking about how to use or edit Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Wikipedia will not provide medical or legal advice. As far as research, the reference desk may be able to refer you to some resources for researching military records, but otherwise, unfortunately, it is unlikely that the volunteers at Wikipedia will be able to assist you.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:30, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

See mainspace edits[edit]

Hey there, is there any way to se your's or another's mainspace edits (easily) on Wikipedia? Total edits as well? —Skyllfully (talk | contribs) 02:27, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Skyllfully: I use http://tools.wmflabs.org/supercount/ for my total edits and the breakdown for each section. The default also shows the 10 most edited pages in each namespace. If you want to see just your mainspace edits you can use the regular contributions page. There is a drop down menu where you can pick the namespace you want. --Stabila711 (talk) 03:18, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information lacking on entry for Quran Code.[edit]

Hello,

I am a frequent user of Wikipedia but unfortunately am not able to edit articles very well. I noticed an article called "Quran Code" is severely lacking in information. I have much information to add to it but do not possess the editing ability to add that information. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Navidfa (talkcontribs) 05:30, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Navidfa:.
Yes, many of our articles about the Quran (and many other topics other than Pokemon, hurricanes and Gibraltar) are not in very good shape.
But, Wikipedia does not accept "information that editors know", it only accepts content that is verifiable as having been published in a reliable source with a reputation for fact checking and editorial oversight. If you want to help, you can go to the article's talk page, start a new section with a header title like "suggested sources" and then provide information about sourcing options that can be used to improve the article. Or you can start discussions about how to reorganize material to give a better flow, or bring up aspects that you think have been too heavily covered or not covered enough. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 11:43, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

speedy deletion[edit]

This article may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion as an article about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject. The above messages appears in my article , what should i do to have it rectified. i mean how should i indicate the importance — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eadh (talkcontribs) 11:22, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Eadh:. What you will need to do is provide reliably published sources with a reputation for editorial oversight that have no connection to the subject of the article but have discussed the subject in a significant manner. Or you can ask for the article to be moved into WP:DRAFT space so that you will have more time to find such sourcing.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 11:47, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delete it — Preceding unsigned comment added by James lujel (talkcontribs) 11:23, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why? - you didn't give a reason in your speedy deletion nomination, so, as the nomination was incomplete, and therefore invalid, I have removed it - Arjayay (talk) 11:26, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry If I did something wrong. I don't see any option to delete it. How can I delete a page? It has no sources. Every article I see on wikipedia has sources but this doesn't, so I wanted to delete it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by James lujel (talkcontribs) 11:34, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You can't delete it. Only admins can do that. What you can do is A) put a speedy delete tag on it with a valid reason given, B) PROD it, again with a valid reason, C) put it up for AFD, or D) improve the article so that it can stay, if the subject is notable enough for an article. Problems with encyclopedic tone[edit]

Hi there,

I have attempted to edit a wikipedia page (Daren Shiau) about a writer several times, but it seems I can't get the "encyclopedic tone" right.

I have used another Singaporean writer's Wikipedia page for reference (Cyril Wong), but somehow I can't get rid of that "wrong tone used" message from the page I am editing.

Can someone tell me how I can rectify this problem? Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krazyrockstar (talkcontribs) 14:28, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not sentient, it can't automatically analyse the page and decide whether it's encyclopedic. You have to wait for someone to review the page manually and remove the "wrong tone used" message. JIP | Talk 14:36, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the OP could remove the tag themselves if they feel that the issue has been fixed. That said, someone else could come along and put it back if they disagree with the first editor's opinion. Dismas|(talk) 15:40, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the "Tone" template, added a "No footnotes" template and collected the ELs under External Links, not references. Krazyrockstar you need to read Help:Referencing for beginners and add in-line citations for all the "facts" in the article, or these could be challenged and/or simply removed, - Arjayay (talk) 15:56, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Entry editing[edit]

Hi,

I need help in revising an entry. I am trying to improve the entry entitled, "Adrian Parr." I have more information to put in the entry, and I will be making major changes to it. I want to make the changes, but I am worried about creating any controversy within the Wikipedia community. I wanted to know what is the proper procedure to make major changes. I have read the guidelines, and I have alerted people (through the entry's "Talk Page") about my intentions. However, I don't know if I should do anything else.

In addition, the top of the flag shows there are problems with the entry's neutrality and problems with external links. However, I am not sure how to fix those. Not to mention, the flags says those issues have been resolved -- but if they are resolved why are the flags still on top of the page. May you please help me with this?

Adrian Parr (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Adding convenience link and fixing formatting of question. Dismas|(talk) 16:08, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@RashaAly: Don't worry about breaking anything - there is nothing you can do that cannot be restored to where it was before. If you have concerns about the content you wish to add/change/remove, then you can start a discussion on the article talk page like you did here and explain what you want to do and why. If no one objects in a few days, then go and make the changes. If your changes get reverted there will usually be a message either in the edit summary or on the talk page or on your page explaining why. While there are a lot of policies, and no one is expected to know all of them, it would be a good thing to look over WP:BLP , WP:V, WP:RS, WP:OR, and WP:NPOV which cover the major aspects of editing. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:40, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble linking an external web page[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I'm trying to add an external link to this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M20

The link is to this page: http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/m20.html

I have a page for almost all BMW engines since the 1960s and the list is expanding, see: http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/engines.html

My site has been running for 20 years and is non-profit. It is referenced by other people for citations in other BMW Wikipedia historical articles and is widely linked to as an authoritative source on BMW history. My pages have content which is not present on Wikipedia at present.

When I try to edit the page and add the link I get a warning dialog saying I'm not allowed to. What can I do? Unixnerd (talk) 16:35, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Given the similarity between your username and the website, it appears you may have a connection? Please read our policies on conflict of interest and our Username policy - Arjayay (talk) 16:44, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As Arjayay says, you have a conflict of interest. The recommended procedure is to add a request on the article's talk page, and hope that some impartial editor reads it and decides your web page is worthy of an external link. (I see you're still using Demon. I am amazed that they still exist. I abandoned them five years ago, after finding that they had outsourced their tech support to Indians who knew even less about the subject than I do.) HELP WITH AN EDIT AND PHOTO UPLOAD[edit]

I am trying to edit my son's wiki page - actor Beans Balawi. He has had a name change, and alot of info is old. As he is 18 I can get him to contact you as well if needed. I have just spent 1 hour 'editing' and uploading a photo of him, and then I went off site, tried to google him again on the Wiki page, but it has not come out - Help ! So frustating. I have created an account, and have got an e-mail from you, but it has made no difference. Best wishes, Mandy Komlosy, mother. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MANDY KOMLOSY (talkcontribs) 20:09, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please go to the Commons Upload Wizard to upload your image. Primefac (talk) 20:29, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Also, we are not affiliated with Google. Whatever time they take to update their search results is entirely up to them and we have no influence over that. Dismas|(talk) 20:36, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And please be aware, MANDY KOMLOSY, that Wikipedia has almost no interest in what a subject, or his friends, relatives, or business associates, want to say about him: we are only interested in what reliable published sources with no connection to him have said about him. As you have a conflict of interest, you are strongly discouraged from editing an article about him: rather, you should make suggestions for improvements on the article's talk page Talk:Beans Balawi, preferably with citations to independent sources which support any information you want to insert, and uninvolved editors will decide what changes are appropriate. If you hold the copyright to a good picture, on the other hand, you are very welcome to upload it. --ColinFine (talk) 22:33, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article Name[edit]

Good evening,

The article name of TBN Enlace USA is incorrect, I was wondering what are the options to change the name of this article?

Thank you for your time and I will be waiting for your quick response. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aym123 (talkcontribs) 23:30, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Aym123: Well to rename an article you would perform a move but you have to be autoconfirmed to move a page. Can you tell us why the page name is incorrect? --Stabila711 (talk) 23:37, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
