No contextual significance (NFCC#8)  — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:54, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong Keep - What a ridiculous nomination. Has the nominator even taken care to actually read the article? This image is an example of a major shift in subject material resulting from a significant life changing event affecting the subject's future career and work.
From the article: "Rodger later recalled how, after spending several hours at the camp, he was appalled to realise that he had spent most of the time looking for graphically pleasing compositions of the piles of bodies lying among the trees and buildings. This traumatic experience led Rodger to conclude that he could not work as a war correspondent again. Leaving Life, he travelled throughout Africa and the Middle East, continuing to document these area's wildlife and people. ... Rodger became a founding member of Magnum Photos and over the next thirty years worked as a freelance photographer, taking on many expeditions and assignments to photograph the people, landscape and nature of Africa. Much of Rodger's photojournalism in Africa was published in National Geographic as well as other magazines and newspapers."
The photograph has huge contextual significance. --Cactus.man 14:04, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • That cannot be explained through text? You're kidding me, right? It's already in text, and not seeing the image is not detrimental to one's understanding of the subject. In other words, this image doesn't support the paragraph any more than another image he took during the time would. Furthermore, I'm a bit iffy about using National Geographic images as non-free images... the commercial opportunities clause essentially bans almost all Getty and AP photos (except those which meet the very narrow definition in WP:NFC#UUI #7) ... does this apply to National Geographic? One wonders. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:51, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • As the article stands the use of the image is unsupportable and is largely decorative. If the article covered material, and this particular image, in the way that this article does it may be a different result. - Peripitus (Talk) 03:02, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
