Nominator's rationale: No need to categorize by year if there's only one article per year. Upmerge into by decade category structure and keep the articles in the YYYY in baseball categories. –Aidan721 (talk) 19:54, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: rename, aligning with Category:People under the Almoravid dynasty, to avoid confusion that these people might be a member of the Almoravid dynasty. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:14, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lanka Premier League[edit]

Nominator's rationale: The teams in the Lanka Premier League have all been renamed since the league began only two years ago. Dambulla was renamed again just two days ago with the league about to recommence on 6 December. The five teams are now called Colombo Stars, Dambulla Aura, Galle Gladiators, Jaffna Kings and Kandy Falcons. Renaming each category with a generic league franchise title that is city-based will resolve confusion arising from these frequent name changes and will also be useful in future if, as is possible, Colombo gets a second franchise. BcJvs UTC 14:40, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support While my usual preference in most cases is for the current team name to be used as the category name, given the number of name changes in a short period of time, this seems like a sensible solution. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 14:46, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose this would be inconsistent with other sports team categories on Wikipedia, which all use the newest name, no matter how many times the team has changed names. Also, if we were to change them, we should change all the subcats to- just doing the parent category is inconsistent. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:14, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ancient Egyptian officials[edit]

Nominator's rationale: delete, ancient Egyptian officials had all sorts of titles but they no longer have meaning to 21st-century Wikipedia users who navigate through the officials tree. If this happens to be an insufficient rationale then still delete per WP:SMALLCAT. Merging is not needed, all articles already are in a subcat by dynasty of Category:Ancient Egyptian officials. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:54, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Peterkingiron, PacificDepths, and Udimu: pinging contributors to this previous similar discussion. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:55, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
do NOT delete, there are 1000s of officials known from ancient Egypt and they need to be put in some order. The source base is just very rich. Most of those title holders are high state officials. These officials were powerful men. You would not want to delete prime minister or home office to compare with modern titles/officials. Most Wikireaders will find those Egyptian categories useless, but if i look into categories in mathematical articles, I do not have a clue what it is about and I would not mess around there as I do not have any knowledge about those subjects.Udimu (talk) 10:03, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: These titles are one of the primary ways that people interested in Egyptology engage with these individuals. People interested in Egyptology form a good portion of the WP users who navigate this category tree (and really, I have little time for "no longer have meaning to 21st-century Wikipedia users" - categorisation of animals by genus or of American individuals by these "states" that I hear they have mean little to me...). WP:SMALLCAT says "Avoid categories that... will never have more than a few members" and there are dozens of noteworthy holders of all five of these titles. Delete per above comment by Furius but the same reasoning based on WP:SMALLCAT lends to a different outcome, seeing how:
—I could not determine that any of the titles (overseer of the sealers, overseer of the cattle, overseer of the city, chancellor of Lower Egypt, overseer of the priests of Wepwawet) are notable in the relevant sense that such titles would each merit a separate article;
—Even if the titles are notable, the number of entries based on current content on Wikipedia can't expand significantly, and since this is an ancient civilization, it's safe to assume that even if the content on such title holders expands (and perhaps it never will), it will be over a long period of time – each category only has one or two members, with the exception of Category:Ancient Egyptian overseers of the city (perhaps this category is an outlier, and should not be deleted, as it has a larger number of members).
Conclusion: small with no realistic potential for growth in the foreseeable future. twsabin 01:10, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think both points are premised on the idea that WP's coverage of ancient Egypt is near complete, which it very much isn't. All of these titles are the subject of extended discussion in, for example, Moreno Garcia, Juan Carlos (ed.). Ancient Egyptian administration. Leiden, The Netherlands 2013 & A. B. Lloyd, Ancient Egypt: State and Society 2014. The same point goes for notable titleholders. There are dozens to hundreds of holders (depending on the title) discussed in reliable sources, like G. T. Martin, Egyptian Administrative and Private-name Seals. 1971 & Ángeles Jiménez-Higueras, A Prosopographic Study of the New Kingdom Tomb Owners of Dra Abu el-Naga 2022; Furius (talk) 23:16, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Nonsensical reasoning. 21st-century users need subcategories to locate specific positions among an ever-growing list of generic "officials". Dimadick (talk) 00:27, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Short-lived governments and regimes[edit]

The result of the discussion was: listify. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 08:37, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category seems to have splintered off from the original Category:Short-lived states, previously a subject of CfD in 2010 and 2011, with some participants arguing that there is no definable inclusion criteria, as "short-lived" is rather arbitrary (especially when it is as long as 10 years) and some "states" were liberated territories during a war (e.g. Bihać Republic and Republic of Užice). That said, many articles on short-lived republics describe them as "short-lived", including a lot of the states listed on List of socialist states#Ephemeral socialist states. I believe inclusion criteria could be based on WP:RS calling them as such, so I'm starting a discussion to rename this category to "Short-lived governments and states", keeping "governments" in the name given that some existing continual states had short-lived governments (alternatively, these two could be separated for clarity, so "Short-lived states" would also be on the table). If not, then this category should be nominated for deletion, depending on how this nomination for a rename turns out. -Vipz (talk) 23:03, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. I would like to add: Talking about "governments and regimes" seems pleonastic (redundant). Many members of the category are in fact precisely short-lived states (not redundant). twsabin 23:59, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:SUBJECTIVECAT. This typically requires a sortable table in an article, where you can sort countries by their duration. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:50, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per Twsabin's reasoning. Dimadick (talk) 00:24, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
