Nominator's rationale: Bolivian award, after checking at eswiki I can confirm that it appears to be awarded mostly to foreigners. None of the articles I checked do more than briefly mention it. Not at all defining to Konrad Adenauer, Haile Selassie, Jimmy Doolittle, or to the Bolivian recipients such as Germán Busch or Enrique Peñaranda. (t · c) buidhe 20:23, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
While the majority of the total number of awards might be issued domestically, the majority of notable recipients appear to be foreign. WP:OCAWARD guides us to look at the latter: "A category of award recipients should exist only if receiving the award is a defining characteristic for the large majority of its notable recipients." - RevelationDirect (talk) 15:32, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Pretty much only given to foreigners (although not exclusively - Spanish wiki reveals that it has also been given to The Strongest! ... for whom it is probably not defining). Furius (talk) 21:39, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. --Just N. (talk) 15:46, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Keep. The award actually has been given to many notable Bolivians who have dedicated articles including many Bolivian presidents. The issue is that many of those articles simply do not have the category (and lack many other categories). I am currently working on organizing and adding categories to Bolivian articles and I intend to add this category where applicable if it is kept. Krisgabwoosh (talk) 22:55, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Krisgabwoosh, your comment does not address the central question of whether the award is WP:DEFINING for the large majority of its notable recipients. I assume that for example, Presidents are defined by the tenue and events of their presidency, rather than by what gongs they collected. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:59, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps not for more recent presidents. However, the Order of the Condor is one of the highest military awards in Bolivia and given the amount of military presidents and dictators the country has seen, it's plausible to argue that it's a defining characteristic of their military careers. Krisgabwoosh (talk) 01:17, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: The one person in this category had Czechoslovak citizenship and is already categorized in Category:Czechoslovak assassins. I doubt there is potential for expansion as a check of the cswiki category indicated that all died before the establishment of the Czech Republic and would have had Czechoslovak or Austro-Hungarian citizenship. The Czech Republic since 1993 is not a place known for political assassinations. (t · c) buidhe 19:53, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Egyptian award, does not appear to be defining in either pre- or post-independence variants. For both foreign recipients such as Archibald Wavell, Yuri Gagarin, or George Walter Grabham as well as Egyptian recipients such as Amr Moussa, Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, etc. the award is just listed with others. • Delete If you want to see the collective impact of diplomatic souvenirs in the article space, just look at the train wrecks at the bottom of articles in this category like Emperor Akihito, Margrethe II of Denmark, or Hussein of Jordan. Doesn't appear to be defining to any of the articles I clicked on. (The category contents appear to be already listified within the main article, Order of the Nile, but should be double checked.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 22:49, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Mexican decoration awarded (exclusively, it seems) to foreigners. Not at all defining for Mahathir Mohamad, Josip Broz Tito, Walter Schwimmer, Carlos Echeverri Cortés, Jared Kushner, Nelson Mandela, etc. I did not see it more than mentioned in any bio. (t · c) buidhe 18:02, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: RevelationDirect: I appreciate the rapid listifications, but in this case the new list seems to duplicate the list that was already there? Furius (talk) 21:34, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Partially, yes. There was already 1 list of royalty in one format and 3 separate lists (presidents, politicians & other) in another format. I added third format "by class" which contains both some overlap and some additional articles. Ideally, we would have one list (in the format of the royalty one) that you could sort by whichever column interested you: class, year, country, title etc. - RevelationDirect (talk) 23:53, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Propose merging:
Nominator's rationale: The Indian state of Jharkhand was created in late 2000, seceding from Bihar. The MLAs in these categories represented constituencies which are now part of Jharkhand, but were at the time part of Bihar. These 3 categories are anachronisms, because they wrongly label these MLAs as sitting in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly at a time before that body's creation. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:55, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Nondefining award. Checked several bios including Semyon Aralov, Pyotr Berestov, Lidiya Alekseyeva, Alexander Altunin, Pavel Babaylov, Irakli Abashidze, Aleksey Abrikosov, Garay Asadov, Nikolay Basov, Nikolay Burdenko, Anatoly Dobrynin, Aleksey Chuyanov, etc. and none do more than mention the award, sometimes alongside more prestigious ones such as Hero of the Soviet Union. • Delete, obvious case of WP:OCAWARD. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:42, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete 431,418 of these medals issued per the main article, Order of Lenin. It's hard to contemplate an award being defining that was given out out so liberally. (I normally suggest listification but I'm not sure if that's practical here.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 23:32, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • It was the second highest award of the Soviet Union, and the highest award most people who received it got (despite most people in the category right now being Heroes of the Soviet Union due to enwiki being crap in Russian history). Receiving the Order of Lenin was VERY defining, even if not all recipients of it were notable. Do note that the nominator here insisting on purging completely random Soviet award categories has also nominated recipients of the order of victory for deletion even though only 20 people were awarded it. This category CANNOT be deleted without devastating consequences for the entire project.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 20:42, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Major state honour usually awarded to citizens of the Soviet Union. Clearly defining. Ludicrous nomination and suggests that some editors are determined to delete all categories for awards. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:18, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Again, a plea for some systematisation, here! Why the order of Lenin but not the Order of the Red Banner of Labour etc Furius (talk) 18:42, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agree that it would be preferable to start with individual nominations for the lesser awards and move up the list, as consensus allowed! - RevelationDirect (talk) 20:16, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That is one way of doing it, I suppose, but really the opposite of what I was asking for, which was to do all the Soviet awards in one place. Furius (talk) 21:22, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Keep There is a reason so many Heroes of the Soviet Union are in the category - Heroes of the Soviet Union get the Order of Lenin. BUT not all Heroes of the Soviet Union get the Order of Lenin, and for people who were not Heroes of the Soviet Union or Heroes of Socialist Labour, it was their highest medal, their most defining award, and very notable. For the love of God stop nominating categories for awards you don't even understand for deletion! No other wiki has ever deleted the recipients of the Order of Lenin category. This is one step below deleting the Heroes of the Soviet Union or Heroes of Socialist Labour categories! So many people are defined by this as their highest award - Tamara Kazarinova, Tojikhon Shodieva, Yaponts Abadiyev, Max Taitz, etc just to name a few. Unfortunately, many notable recipients of it for whom it was the highest award don't have articles yet, but that's enwiki! Taking this category away basically means saying goodbye to ALL Soviet award categories, but frankly, it looks like that's what is happening here, considering how people who know NOTHING about the USSR and Soviet awards who haven't written a single biography of a Soviet award recipient in their life are trying to purge Soviet award categories. What's next, only being able to categorize Soviet people by birth and death year, or is that going as well?--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 20:38, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Again, I tested Planespotter's theory that ruwiki treats the award as defining. I went to the ruwiki category and clicked on several bios at random[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] None of them more than mention the award. (t · c) buidhe 21:04, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"None of them more than mention the award" Again, that's because the Soviet biographies DON'T MENTION the non-defining awards at all. Being mention shows that it's defining. Russian biographies don't elaborate much and are very concise, but one mention doesn't mean an award isn't defining. This award was often the highest award someone ever got, and was awarded for the highest accomplishment in their career. You expect the articles to mention it multiple times? Do you really think that getting the second highest soviet civilian award ISN'T inherently defining? This is going to create an absolute mess. If we can't have a category for the 2nd highest Soviet civilian award, why have any Soviet award categories at all? Heck, why don't you go nominate heroes of the soviet union for deletion because a bunch of Russian wikipedia articles only briefly mention the award. Your idea of "defining" is increadibly narrow and attacking wikipedia! In many biographies, this category is the most important one! For gods sake, go pick on some American medals now and then.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 21:22, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Eugene M is an active and productive editor of Russian Wikipedia on the subject of award recipients, where he obviously has demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of the subject matter far better than most people here, ergo his opinion is worth listening to. Just because he mostly edits Russian wikipedia doesn't make is comments irrelevant.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 22:00, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, obvious case of WP:OCAWARD. --Just N. (talk) 15:14, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. This is a significant award, and disappointing to see being nominated after research solely limited to wikisources - which are non-reliable. If trawling a number of biographies (of varying degrees of completeness and comprehensiveness) and making a judgement based on what they do or do not say is the criteria for these nominations, I do not think sufficient competence in the topic is being demonstrated by the nominator, still less appropriate analysis before nominating. Nominator's rationale: 55,000 awards mostly to Polish resistance fighters. These people are noted for being resistance fighters, not for this specific award. Articles I checked don't treat it as defining. (t · c) buidhe 05:53, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:OCAWARD. One would expect this to overlap with Category:Polish resistance members of World War II but that is hardly the case, it was only awarded to communists for a start, and the role in Polish resistance is sometimes questionable. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:06, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete but Listify Being a Polish resistance member during World War II is absolutely defining which is why already have Category:Polish resistance members of World War II. Categorizing by this award for that same participation is redundant. (The catgory contents should be copied over to the Partisan Cross, and I can help.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 12:13, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Given to all Polish resistance fighters.Furius (talk) 18:44, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Nondefining award. Tends to be listed with others in biographies such as Mirosław Hermaszewski, Josip Broz Tito, Ivan Konev, Nikolai Kuznetsov (admiral), etc. (t · c) buidhe 05:51, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, obvious case of WP:OCAWARD. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:56, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete but Listify This award was given for different time and most the articles I looked at don't even mention it including Prime Minister Piotr Jaroszewicz, Soviet general Sergei Rudenko, economist Zygmunt Modzelewski. (The category contents should be listified within Order of the Cross of Grunwald though and I can help.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 12:18, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Major state honour usually awarded to citizens of Poland. Clearly defining. Ludicrous nomination and suggests that some editors are determined to delete all categories for awards. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:19, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Just because a couple politicans famous for other things got the award doesn't make it defining for other people. The people heavily defined by it are unfortunatly under-represented in english wikipedia, but that doesn't mean that the award isn't defining or for its other notablie recipients, like Umer Adamanov (for whom it is very defining). The generals the nominater listed are the exception to the rule (just are overrepresented in categories since they are more known in Anglosphere), for normal recipients, it is a notability definer, their highest award, even their only one.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 20:31, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete but Listify IMHO seems fair enough. --Just N. (talk) 15:06, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
List everyone with a Wikipedia article that was awarded it? What will we do when the content gap from Russian and Polish Wikipedia is closed and hundreds upon hundreds of people are to be listed? Just makes more sense to add a name to a category after creating a new article instead of adding to a bazillion lists.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 20:47, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • We list recipients for every notable award, either in the award article or as a separate aeticle, so why would Russian awards be an exception? Marcocapelle (talk) 06:02, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Nondefining East German award. Checked several bios including Ingeburg Lange, Robert Siewert, and Gerhard Schürer; it tends to be listed with other awards if at all. (t · c) buidhe 05:47, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, obvious case of WP:OCAWARD. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:56, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete/merge but do not merge Category:Greensboro Pride men's basketball coaches. Also merge Category:Greensboro Pride men's soccer coaches to Category:College men's soccer coaches in the United States. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:11, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(I've never been to CfD before, so I hope I'm doing this correctly.) This whole scheme is unnecessary subcategorization. There are a total of seven articles in the assorted subcategories of Category:Greensboro Pride, five of which are in Category:Greensboro Pride football coaches (which deserves keeping). Of the other categories, "men's soccer coaches" and "men's basketball coaches" each contain one page, and the others contain only subcategories. There's really no need to have all these subcategories when the two articles there can just be in the overarching category (Category:Greensboro Pride). I read the CFD#HOWTO, but I'm not really sure where this fits. Article Eblaite is the sole entry in Category:Semitic language articles needing translation from French Wikipedia. This article has a {{Expand French}} template at the top, and this template categorizes the article in this case into Category:Articles needing translation from French Wikipedia, and is capable of categorizing articles into categories that are similary named. For example, the template would categorize it into Category:Geography articles needing translation from French Wikipedia when the |topic=geo parameter is passed to {{Expand French}}. But that is not the case here, and "Semitic language articles" category is the result of someone manually adding that category to the bottom of the page at Eblaite. Given that no other member exists in the category, maybe it should be deleted, or perhaps merged? If someone can do the right thing, I'd appreciate it, and please ping me so I can follow along, and that might help me for next time. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 02:03, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
