  • This editor's first edits here are exactly the same (removal of Harry Potter books from List of children's films as Dcasey has just been blocked for.

Unbelievably blatant. Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi 12:51, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dcasey98 has conducted a campaign of sustained disruption at List of children's films involving the removal of the Harry Potter films from the list. His edits were mainly variations of this type (last edit before indefinite block). The full extent of the disruption can be seen at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/3RRArchive310#User:Dcasey98 reported by User:Betty Logan (Result: Blocked 31 hours) and Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/3RRArchive311#User:Dcasey98 reported by User:Betty Logan (Result: Indefinite block). Dcasey98 received an indefinite block on March 20 for block evasion. Since then there has been recurring sock and IP activity at the article which are plainly the edits of the same editor: March 22, April 6 (1st & 2nd), April 15 (1st & 2nd) all by IP 64.150.49.54. There has also been a new edits of the same type by Adejesus1986 registered earlier today (1st & 2nd). Betty Logan (talk) 19:49, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like a duck to me Started where the last sock left off, as if there wasn't even a block. Any IP addresses used by Adejesus1986 will be autoblocked, so I'm holding off on (but watching) 64.150 for now. Ian.thomson (talk) 01:31, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

After several months away this new editor is making the exact same posts on the Talk:List of children's films (edit | subject | history | links | watch | logs) that Dcasey98 did back in March. This is the first time this has come up since an IP was shown to be a sock back in April so I have not requested a checkuser. MarnetteD|Talk 05:00, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dcsaey98 and their sockpuppet was an editor who repeatedly removed the Harry Potter films from List of children's films last year i.e. basically many edits of this nature. They also repeatedly added films that were unsupported by the general source used by the article. The same disruptive behavior has recently started up again. Today an IP twice removed the Harry Potter films from the list: [1] and [2]. A newly registered account (Bellatrixpotter98) also started adding films similar to those that Dcasey98 kept adding. A message was also left on my talk page by Bellatrixpotter98, arguing for their removal. Bellatrixpotter98 admits they used to edit here and their name is a conflation of their original account name (Dcasey98) and a previous sock (Bellatrix2017). I think this is a classic case of an indeffed editor returning to their old haunts. Betty Logan (talk) 09:39, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • UPDATE: Ian.thomson jumped on this while I was filing the report and blocked the new account. The IP address is still live, so is it worth taking that out for a few days? The issue has more or less been dealt with though so the case can be archived. At least the new account will be added to the archive. Betty Logan (talk) 09:43, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The IP showed up first making this edit going over the same territory that the past socks did. Then H starts posting the same stuff on the talk pages of FilmandTVFan28 and Betty Logan. I see that it is about 4 months since the last socking but it still seems to be a WP:DUCK situation to me. MarnetteD|Talk 02:51, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously it is very difficult to conclusively prove they are the same editor based on just a few edits but it fits the same pattern as the previous sockpuppets. In a nutshell the editor has an obsession with the Harry Potter films being on the list and the Star Wars films not being on it. This account is following the trajectory of the last confirmed sock Bellatrixpotter98:

Neither have an editing history outside of this narrow obsession with this particlar article. Betty Logan (talk) 03:05, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

They also claim "I'm already reporting MarnetteD and I've called the non-emergency police on her." [7] Was surprised to learn that there is a "non-emergency police" that investigates editing disputes. Trivialist (talk) 05:01, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

They also mention [8] that their Wikipedia edits have been going on for "more than a year" Meters (talk) 05:05, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I was shocked to see this happening again. — FilmandTVFan28 (talk) 05:41, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

About done with the abuse

There's definitely a way to get you all reported and blocked. On a forum that's supposed to be open to all to edit, kicking everyone off and only letting yourselves do so is oppressive. Highlandersoldier1 (talk) 05:16, 24 September 2017 (UTC) comment moved from talk page [reply]

Honethefield98 was a strongly Amerocentric editor who had a huge problem with the (well-sourced) idea that certain musical genres originated in the UK. He was blocked in March 2019 after a noticeboard discussion: Need more eyeballs – Amerocentric disruption from Greater Chicago. It became apparent from behavior that Honethefield98 was the registered name of a previous disruption range based on Chicago area IPs: 2601:243:400:F535:0:0:0:0/64 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)) This range is very, very close to the one used by Dcasey98, with intersections in style. Special:Contributions/12.86.50.98 was blocked at the same time as Honethefield98, with a note connecting the IP to the username. The 2601:243:400:F535:0:0:0:0/64 range was blocked for three years starting in May 2019 per checkuser.

Drytalkplease98 was registered in December 2019, then blocked the next day for edit warring. Drytalkplease98 argued the same stance as Honethefield98, making lots of noise at Talk:Heavy metal music about how the UK could not possibly be the main origin of heavy metal music, in the same discussion thread started by Special:Contributions/2601:243:400:F535:5186:BBB2:72B3:7608.

Grafton56 was registered in January 2020, continuing the same stance in the same discussion thread as Drytalkplease98 and the Chicago area IP. When the username was three weeks old, Grafton56 admitted he was a veteran editor, saying "you should’ve allowed my removal of both from the page months ago." Checkuser requested to confirm the connection between Grafton56 and Drytalkplease98. Binksternet (talk) 23:57, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to Sro23: I have very little in the way of behavioral matches between Dcasey98 and Honethefield98. The similar name style caught my attention, and the insistence that they were right. The Dcasey98 focus was whether a teen fantasy film could be categorized as a children's film, while the Honethefield98 and Greater Chicago IP interests are somewhat varied, including the American culture in general,[9] the history of music styles[10][11] and climate classification of places.[12][13] One of the involved IPs made music edits,[14] climate edits[15] and also one edit to a list of teen dramas.[16] Drytalkplease98 also made an edit to the teen list[17] along with many music-related edits.
In quick succession, closely related IPs made edits to climate,[18] to a teen fantasy film in the Harry Potter series,[19] to a teen fantasy TV program,[20] to a teen culture style,[21] to a climate topic,[22] and again to a teen culture style,[23] the latter two edits showing that teen culture and climate classification can come from the same exact IP address.
The only explanation I can offer for the change from Dcasey98's tight focus on Harry Potter and teen fantasy films to the wider interests of the Chicago IPs is the progress of time, the changing interests of the person. Binksternet (talk) 06:36, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I’ve been dealing with the editors at the heavy metal talk page these last couple months, and I definitely agree that all the recent ones are likely the same person. I’m not familiar with the sock master, but I can certainly see the logic behind tying them all together. Sergecross73 msg me 00:16, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Widr rangeblocked Special:Contributions/2601:243:680:3688::/64 on July 31. After that, Velvetlaptop was created to continue the edit warring of the blocked IPs. I reported this to ANI here, which led to NinjaRobotPirate blocking 73.8.230.59, and El C blocking Velvetlaptop on August 1. The Dcasey98 sock connection was explicitly stated here. More sock action was seen with 107.138.239.21 and Campainfinance, who were quickly blocked later on August 1. Devildriver686 was created on August 1, reverting to the sockfarm preferred version at Soft power.[24][25] The username Honoredebalzac345 was created on August 8, making a bunch of edits to related topic areas, then continuing the same edit war at the soft power page.[26] Checkuser requested to make certain. Recently blocked sock Tyrolian859 made this edit which diminished the role of the UK and gave too much emphasis to the role of the US. Previous socks and IPs had also made this change. Both Ambrosiusflume and Drizzybake continued the edit war.[27][28] Checkuser requested to seek out sleepers. Binksternet (talk) 22:32, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Previous socks showed a non-neutral bias in favor of the USA and against the UK, especially in the origin stories of music, fashion, food and pop culture trends. The person also makes relatively harmless climate edits. Chicago IP 98.253.186.130 was recently blocked for 1 year because of block evasion. Gingeraleking came swinging through a bunch of articles to restore the changes made by 98.253.186.130. Example here. Note that Gingeraleking says in the edit summary "Not only was the content I rewrote grammatically poor..." but the recently composed content was not composed by Gingeraleking but by 98.253.186.130.

Checkuser requested to make certain of the connection, and to search for sleepers. Binksternet (talk) 03:10, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Threefrgy has the same unusual intersection of topics and attitudes as Dcasey98 and socks: Young adult literature, Harry Potter,[29] J.K. Rowling,[30][31] weather and geography. Especially revealing is the hostile edit-warring behavior and unthinking pro-American stance on culture.[32][33] Binksternet (talk) 05:24, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note this sequence from last year in which Threefrgy replaced the same category added by blocked Illinois IP Special:Contributions/76.157.42.81.[34][35] Other socks had previously added the same misleading category.[36][37][38] Binksternet (talk) 05:50, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

More pro-American, anti-British POV pushing on music-related articles such as Psychedelic rock and Power pop.

On Psychedelic rock, the 104.181.148.164 IP came in and disrupted the article with POV push putting undue weight on Americans and removing mentions of British (diff), then soon after they were reverted, the Christeningchristina account came in and repeated the same edits more or less (diff). Compare this to edits from previously blocked sock Yerbariyn, where they also engaged in removal of "British" and addition of "American" in music genre articles, once again: diff 1, diff 2.

One of their favourite words to use in edit summaries seems to be "British appropriation" or similar such as "appropriation by Anglophiles": diff by 104.181.148.164, diff by Christeningchristina, diff by previous blocked sock Threefrgy. — AP 499D25 (talk) 01:46, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
