This is just plain weird. At Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hurricane Kira, a slew of new accounts and unregistered editors have shown up in the last day or so, !voting to keep (or move) what should by rights be a WP:SNOW candidate, removing SPA tags on their fellows ([1], [2]) and NACing the entire discussion ([3], [4]). That's not normal, and given the modus operandi, I'm inclined to believe this is either a single user trying to save their pet page, or an organised off-wiki meatfarm. I'm guessing at Siabaf as the sockmaster since they were the original page creator (and this makes me a little suspicious as te first edit to the AFD), but I'm by no means convinced. If it's someone else, Siabaf has my apologies. Yunshui  22:52, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Accused parties may also comment/discuss in this section below. See Defending yourself against claims. I've added two IPs and removed a duplicate. The 174 IPs are Verizon Wireless; the 69 and 24 IPs are Optimum Online in Brooklyn; 70.21.255.58 is in New Jersey but could be checked against TVLover as they edited only a few minutes apart. These may also be sockpuppets of User:Don't Feed the Zords - there are similarities in three of the four accounts (Yuffo has too few edits). Peter James (talk) 01:09, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

User:GAA-22EE is another new user, who created Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zordon copying comment by 24.184 from the talk page, but unlike 24.184 and 24.146, GAA-22EE opposed deletion of the article. Peter James (talk) 01:17, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The AFD was closed by another IP, 209.2.61.8, which belongs to Brooklyn Public Library. It appears to have been autoblocked recently by the block of User:Vao Tv1; I've also added that account to the list as the edits are similar. Peter James (talk) 17:35, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Another IP - User:174.252.18.178, who has started a dispute resolution case. Peter James (talk) 18:19, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, i am the original article creator.

I see there is a pending ip check on my username so I ask:

  1. if my ip comes from the network as these individual users, will i be blocked?
  2. is this investigation being conducted due to the nature of the deletion discussion?

It's possible that the ip addresses could be shared or public access points. However I want to say that I did not ask anyone to vote on the deletion discussion, nor did I attempt to force a closure. I did however use a mobile phone to create the article. Siabaf (talk) 00:53, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This account's first major edit to an article was to the Power Rangers episode list so loved by other socks that were discovered in the February 28 report. There may also very well be various unused sleeper accounts with this new IP. However, considering that there was some crossover with Don't Feed the Zords in the last debate, I apologize if it's the wrong sockmaster. —Ryulong (琉竜) 06:52, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Exact same patterns (AfD and RfA !voting right off the bat) and same recreation of a fake and poorly-photoshopped logo for the 2013 World Series article.

I am also including an old sock in there from 2011, but the patterns are a spot-on match. --MuZemike 22:28, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MugsWrit's first major edit was to this episode list which was favored by a previous sock. The account also did some minor edits to various other pages first before jumping headfirst into debates and old stomping grounds. Filing user has a history of making these claims anytime somebody edits a power ranger articles and he disagrees. Because I am using a smartphone, I really don't want to get blocked because I edited the same article as some notorious user. MugsWrit (talk) 18:30, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've been using a smartphone browser to edit, so I don't want someone to link me to something I didn't do on the network. In any event I think you need to grow up and start interacting with people rather than accuse them of being "troll" and treating the wiki project as your own personal playground. Clearly the pr edit was not my first edit. MugsWrit (talk) 19:44, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that the declining clerk reconsider that decline for CU, as I see more than enough there to block on WP:DUCK alone. --MuZemike 20:56, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  1. At least one diff is from the sockmaster (or an account already blocked as a confirmed sockpuppet of the sockmaster), showing the behaviour characteristic of the sockmaster.
  2. At least one diff per suspected sockpuppet, showing the suspected sockpuppet emulating the behaviour of the sockmaster given in the first diff.
  3. In situations where it is not immediately obvious from the diffs what the characteristic behaviour is, a short explanation must be provided. Around one sentence is enough for this. We need more evidence than "they edited the same article". Rschen7754 08:45, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A quick look at Presbitow tells that this is a new editor. However, it is highly unlikely that a user who has been merely here for just 5 days even knows and actually files a request for adminship at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Presbitow. On that page 174.254.192.127 seemed interested and supported in favor of Presbitow which shows that this is the same person voting for themselves purposely having already know that the request will will not pass. The IP says (see [8]) that they do not have an account but offers their support there which obviously isn't a newcomer trait and the person behind the IP was likely a sockpuppet or meatpuppet. Now this IP address belongs to Verizon Wireless. And so does all these 174.252.1.167, 174.236.75.248, 174.236.7.58, 174.236.68.211, 108.6.38.122 (belongs to Verizon FiOS in New York). Two of these IP's, namely 75.127.185.74 and 173.220.36.124 belong to Optimum Online also in New York. The areas edited most commonly by all of these accounts and IP addresses are Template:Super Bowl Super Bowl LII, Talk:Super Bowl LII Super Bowl LIII, Vikings Stadium and Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2014 February 12. On 8 August, 2013 at Template:Super Bowl, Rautard added (see [9]) the link to Super Bowl LIII which was reverted. After some months the same edit was made by Nasaguy1 (see [10]) on 3 February, 2014 and then again by Presbitow on 11 February (see [11]). On Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2014 February 12, CrazyAdmiinistrator and various other IP address mentioned have attempted to votestack and also tried to add fake comments by impersonating User:Wizardman which was detected by many other editors and removed and there are also suspicious by other users that some sort of sockpuppetry and/or meatpuppetry is going on here. I therefore suggest that a Checkuser be run to find out the truth and any other possible sleeper accounts that may be there. -TheGeneralUser (talk) 23:11, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am just assuming that all users and IPs in this debacle are Don't Feed the Zords a.k.a. BuickCenturyDriver, but the AS92813 case is the most recent to connect them to. ToyFoxTerrier opened up Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Russell Hantz (5th nomination), a favored target of Don't Feed the Zords/BuickCenturyDriver in 2013 (see all past AFDs). Every named account and IP (except for maybe one IP) has voted delete in the debate (I've removed some when identifying the ducks). Several of the IPs here also edited List of Power Rangers Super Megaforce episodes to insert content posted by previous sockpuppets in the past several weeks (AS92813, IP listed above) and another IP reverted me on that page and deleted my request at RFPP. This has been similar behavior from recent sockpuppets as well. All IP addresses are geographically similar to each other, and to those in the most recent SPI case.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 16:33, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note that the IPs were also listed at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dragonron/Archive#15 February 2014 under a previous misidentification.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 16:57, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Earlier today (or yesterday depending on your frame of reference), I had as usual unintentionally uncovered that this banned user had returned when he saw fit to add falsely sourced information to a Power Rangers episode list (see previous cases). The removal of this content went on for 24 hours, only in the last 12 was it discovered that the user who added it was a sockpuppet (the range he is on has been blocked in the past and is currently blocked by Tiptoety). During this whole kerfluffle, the article was protected and a discussion that had been started on the talk page prior to the revelation that it was sockpuppetry was removed by myself and then repeatedly restored by dynamic IPs.

In the past hour, NighlokKen restored the section and also went to a sympathetic admin who was unaware of the sockpuppetry to restore the same attacks against me that I had removed. In the past, I had suspected this was the case (BuickCenturyDriver and Don't Feed the Zords are the same person according to previous checkuser evidence or something which I have been told) but there was no corroborating evidence for NighlokKen. This time, with his restorations of the content, the evidence is conclusive. This sleeper account needs to be blocked post haste. —Ryūlóng (琉竜) 10:59, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have added GSS-5377 and Pican33 to this check as GSS reverted the removal at ANEW and Pican33 created a new Power Rangers page. Both have not edited for some time prior to today and all have been trying to get a bunch of edits in to become autoconfirmed. Pican33 also participated in a sock-filled AFD last year.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 13:28, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Shuffle 329 is another one of the previously suspected sockpuppets who was found in the various discussions over the last year or so. Today, Shuffle 329 moved this page as HaleAgnes (talk · contribs) did previously, and then added the same fake episode summary and reference to the next season, as performed by the various IP addresses that edited the article (eg [12]). When challenged, he focused on the next season stuff which previous sockpuppets did as well. The IP address attempted to shift blame as well and has performed other edits that match the behavior of the sockpuppets, as well as a geographic proximity and matching some other information that I had been told in private prior. —Ryūlóng (琉竜) 16:32, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how I got involved in this mess. When I posted the Dino Charge page, I cited sources on the web and the page was edited by other users before Ryulong had it get deleted (an administrator can look it it's history). I have no intent on posting it again until more sources come out, though. The user that reported me also altered my userpage without any result of coming off this report to confirm my connection to the blocked user. BlakeSnake (talk) 17:47, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ParaPrismsDC's first edit was to create an article relating to the upcoming "Power Rangers Dino Charge" TV show, which was also the behavior of several previously blocked socks who had resulted in the full and/or create protection of Power Rangers Dino Charge (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Power Rangers: Dino Charge (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), and Power Rangers:Dino Charge (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). ParaPrismsDC is clearly a sockpuppet as he has chosen a thematically related name (which BCD did as his "Don't Feed the Zords" persona) and is actively trying to keep his hoax (List of Power Rangers Dino Charge episodes) from being deleted under the excuse that Dino Charge exists when he has just copied all of List of Power Rangers Super Megaforce episodes and used it to make the new article. —Ryūlóng (琉竜) 20:23, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Check declined by a checkuser - I'm not seeing any abuse of multiple accounts here. They are almost definitely the same person, but the first account stopped editing well before the second began. It could easily be a forgotten password. As for the third account, it seems relatively unused, and I didn't find any instances of using both accounts to edit war or similarly violate Wikipedia's policies. If the new account is editing disruptively, it can be blocked for that. Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:48, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Reaper Eternal: please see the block log and an edit made on the other account during the block. --Rschen7754 02:27, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: I've indeffed and tagged all three accounts. Full disclosure. Rschen7754 asked me to look at this case because among other things, including what he noted above after Reaper Eternal declined the CU, there is a fair amount of WP:CIR going on here. I agree, and I think that qualifies as abuse if it's all the same person. Even the time one of the accounts committed block evasion, their edits were incompetent. They removed a period and reinstated the same period in consecutive edits. If you look at the history of some of these articles, almost every edit these accounts make have to be fixed by other users because the accounts screw them up. The list of deleted contributions (that triggered the block) is absurd, one after another of worthless pages that were incomplete and/or malformed. Name formatting similar to sockmaster and one of the other socks, Patrick674. There are intersections at Every Witch Way and List of programs broadcast by Nickelodeon I notice also that at List of programs broadcast by Nickelodeon, another sock operator, ChrisRock1998 was active (TheSDCharger1998, TheRockVC1998). BuickCenturyDriver was known, among other things, for an obsession with children's TV programming related to the Nickelodeon network or the Power Rangers. The various sockpuppets also had an obsession with Interstate Highways. The new account has a user page focusing on Disney TV programming and Interstate Highways. As the persona has switched TV focuses before, but remained within the same general category, it is not far-fetched that it has switched to Disney from Nickelodeon. Imzadi 1979  05:05, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanjagenije:
  1. The new account created Draft:List of Oostlalington & Disney TV shows and cartoons, a draft lifting of real and fictional TV shows on Disney- and Nickelodeon-based networks.
  2. The older account is known for creating socks like Nickelodeon50, among other names. The previous socks are known for editing Nickelodeon-related content, as demonstrated earlier this year at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BuickCenturyDriver/Archive#14 January 2015.
  3. The new account created Draft:Interstate 18 about a non-existant Interstate Highway in California, Draft:Team Interstate about the Interstate Highway System in general, Draft:Team U.S. Route about U.S. Highways in general, and Draft:Team State Highway about state highways in general. This account also created Florida State Road 122, edited Florida State Road 111], Florida State Road 1405, Florida State Road 21 and Interstate 22 not once but twice. (In the case of I-22 and the fake I-18, this account has 'created" maps based on the work of others without appropriate attribution of the source map it edited as a base for the new map.)
  4. The older account's socks have been known to edit articles related to Interstate Highways, as shown at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BuickCenturyDriver/Archive#10 January 2015 and Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BuickCenturyDriver/Archive#06 January 2015.

Suspected sockpuppets

I suspect that AS92813 has returned and is now doing sockpuppetry on Talk:Mercedes-Benz Stadium#Requested move 27 November 2015. One of AS92813's MO is getting into page naming disputes with stadiums with corporate names, with the overall goal of removing the corporate name based on WP:SOAPBOX/WP:OR claims rather than WP:AT/WP:COMMONAME (like Scstadm (talk · contribs · count) on Levi's Stadium[27] and Globe Life Park in Arlington[28], and Zoozle102 (talk · contribs · count) on AT&T Stadium[29]) Another of AS92813's MOs is the uses of numerous sockpuppet on the discussions he has initated (such as Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Presbitow and other discussions started under the sock Presbitow (talk · contribs · count)) A third MO of this puppetmaster is editing/discussion articles related to Power Rangers. And a fourth MO is that he appears to be incarnations of Don't Feed the Zords (talk · contribs · count) and BuickCenturyDriver (talk · contribs · count), which means that all of the behaviors of those two are fair game to compare to (such as the tendencies to edit/discuss articles related to hurricanes and also those related to Power Rangers).

Evidence as to the similar behaviors is as follows:

  • AoorwHead attempted to move Mercedes-Benz Stadium twice[30][31] before being reverted and the page is now move protected. This account then initiated the aforementioned move request. This user also uploaded a blatant, doctored, derivative copyvio work over the article subject's logo with his preferred name[32] that was also reverted.
    • While 2015 Atlantic hurricane season (another hurricane article) was under semi-protection, AoorHead attempted to move the article to 2015 Atlantic hurricane season (protected) [33] This sort of tactic allows the replacement of an unprotected, cut-and-pasted fork which non-autoconfirmed editors can modify, thus bypassing semi-protection. It is hard to find that type of action coincidental.
  • 71.187.186.43 then posted a comment in that discussion which basically repeated AS92813's WP:SOAPBOX that the corporate names should be removed.[34] That IP geolocates to Verizon FiOS around the New York City/New Jersey metropolitan, USA area (same ISP and basic location where AS92813 uses and is located in).
  • 72.43.171.43 also went on a WP:SOAPBOX comment;[35] even though that IP comes from a different ISP, it still geolocates to New York City. (He has in the past admitted that he uses different networks[36])
  • 2015Shoppr is a recently registered account that appears to have originally made another WP:SOABOX comment on the RM discussion as 64.134.33.2[37] before adding the user name signature [38], then posted a notification of it on Talk:AT&T Stadium[39] (I find it unlikely that a completely different newbie would post such a notification on just their fourth edit).
  • IEdior also made a similar WP:SOAPBOX comment;[40] and has been editing/discussing Power Rangers articles,[41][42] as well as comments on Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2015 March 21[43] on a deleted article that was deemed to have been created by BuickCenturyDriver. This editor was previously considered as a sock of BCD, but now it may no longer be an unrelated coincidence.
  • 100.1.12.177, another participant in the RM,[44] geolocates as another Verizon IP in the New York City area
  • 97.47.65.51[45] is a Verizon Wireless IP and it would make sense that he would have that service too. Under this IP, he made requests to lift the range block on networks belonging to Best Buy.[46][47] I guess he attempted to edit while at Best Buy, and that would support his claim that he is using different networks.[48]
  • HarrySnake may also be unrelated, but looking at the contributions, it is a little curious that within the half and hour after he registered, he participated in the RM discussion and edited a hurricane related article[49]
  • 47.21.2.108 and 24.89.147.146 both geolocate to Optimum Online in New York, another network mentioned in the archives. 47.21.2.108 particularly edited a Power Rangers article[50], and tried to restore AoorwHead's preferred name on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium article.[51]

  • @Zzyzx11: Based on the archives, there are no non-stale puppets to compare against. The only thing I could do would be to check the three puppets listed here against themselves, but you'd have to justify my doing that, i.e., why there's sufficient evidence to do that but not sufficient evidence to block based on behavior. As an aside, please follow the instructions at WP:SPI to reopen SPIs in the future. You did it by hand and I had to spend some time fixing it. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:20, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I have now changed the status to open, as it appears that the similar behavior I mentioned above is starting to make it more like a duck to me. It does not look like a CU will be needed (and I'm not surprised he would have waited this long until after the previous CU data expired). Zzyzx11 (talk) 00:44, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • information Administrator note The IPs being exclusive from New York/New Jersey here for an article on Atlanta is highly suspicious already, but then it matches the IP history of this SPI, as well as Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BuickCenturyDriver, which had IEdior who was reported there but CU at the time said was unrelated. Both SPIs link together interest in Power Rangers and major American sports leagues. Finally, all socks that are register users typically edit their own user and talk page and one of their initial edits. Blocked and tagged registered users as WP:DUCKs. IPs are likely temporary so there seems no incentive to block them. Mark for close.—Bagumba (talk) 10:48, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Clerk assistance requested: Seems to be enough evidence based on common IP locale, interest in Power Rangers and American sports, and registered users quickly creating their own user and talk pages to combine this SPI into Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BuickCenturyDriver.—Bagumba (talk) 10:48, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Procedural report for tracking purposes only. Persistent IP-hopping DUCKS at Talk:Mercedes-Benz Stadium altering talk page comments about their past socking. The relevant thing to note is that 174.236.37.126 is on Verizon Wireless like past IPs, but this one geolocates to Massachusetts instead of past pattern of New York or New Jersey. Then there is 97.47.3.92, also Verizon, but geolocates (presumably generically) to Wichita, Kansas, which I've seen in past socks too, but has not been noted for the record. —Bagumba (talk) 23:18, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

information Administrator note Yes, it is generic listing. When I enter 97.47.3.92, the results just give a location as "United States" without any specific area or city. It is most likely giving you coordinates near Wichita because that is near the geographical center of the country. •  Blocked and tagged, but as this account was created around the same time as the two listed in the previous case, I'm requesting a CU to sweep for sleepers. Favonian (talk) 10:01, 6 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I ran a check but I knew it was largely a waste of time. I didn't find any unblocked accounts. The master uses many ranges, although some more often than others. Blocks of the more popular ranges are tempting but have collateral damage that make it very difficult for me to impose. Unfortunately, I think we're going to have to continue to knock them off one by one. I know it places a burden on the community, but it's not the first time we've been forced to do this for sockmasters. I'm beginning to believe we should stop tagging the accounts per WP:DENY. In addition to that edit which basically admits to long-term abuse, this sock ticks all the boxes of this sockmaster's pattern: the Power Rangers stuff, editing past sock userpages, and targeting Bbb23. ~ Rob13Talk 22:52, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Both IPs have admitted to being used by BuickCenturyDriver.

Both IPs appear to have stopped editing, and, given these appear to be cellular assignments from a nominal /10 range (WHOIS), I don't imagine they will be back. However, I thought it may be appropriate to document this to give a more complete picture of current abuse, especially if similar socking should continue from the same network. Thank you. I added 97.47.65.249 based on the clear similarity to 97.47.66.81. Any idea why he adds {{bots|deny}} to discussions?
Also, he sent me a curious email earlier tonight pleading good faith and asking me to talk to ArbCom for him. I admit I was moved and felt bad for the guy. His recent AFD contributions, while meaningless, aren't obviously in bad faith and aren't that much worse than some regulars' votes, and I understand how much being an editor can mean. However, this recent activity makes plain that he's only here to stir up trouble try to prove a point, not build an encyclopedia. Rebbing 04:41, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's a little strange how the VegasCasinoKid account managed to avoid detection for so long, but in my opinion,  It looks like a duck to me. Just take a look at the user's recent edits, most are creating talk pages and participating in AFD discussions ([66] [67] [68]). That's definitely him. Sro23 (talk) 04:39, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Think I may have stumbled across another possible sockpuppet: Special:Contributions/South Nashua. Most of their edits are to AFD's, stub sorting, and adding welcome templates to user talk pages. Compare to VegasCasinoKid. I suppose it could just be a weird coincidence, but these two edits gave me pause. Sro23 (talk) 19:49, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Similar edits ([77] [78] [79]) and edit summaries ([80] [81]) to sockpuppets. Note the account was renamed. Its original username was Vituizzu, an obvious reference to User:Vituzzu. That's always a red flag, but with BuickCenturyDriver in particular, his socks are especially known for trying to impersonate established users. I believe all previous socks have gone stale, but this user intersects with sockpuppets on some pretty obscure, low-traffic articles ([82] [83] [84] [85]) as well as more popular pages ([86] [87] [88] [89] [90] [91]). Please compare does this guy deserve to have the new toll tax imposed? If yes vote keep.
