Reversing a redirect
[edit]Ibrahim El-Salahi is a redirect to Ibrahim el-Salahi. But, of the sources it cites that I'm able to access and that mention his name, 15 use "El" and only one uses "el". So I'd like to move that article to "Ibrahim El-Salahi" and make the redirect go the other way. Am I, as an editor with no relevant special powers, able to do this? If so, how? Maproom (talk) 09:22, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Maproom: Since the redirect has more than one line in its history, the move needs an admin. The usual way to request this is with {{db-move}} -- John of Reading (talk) 09:35, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- I have gone ahead and moved the article, although I have no thoughts of my own as to where it should lay. The best place to request these is WP:RM under technical moves. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:03, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Maproom: What a mess. Take a look at Wikipedia:Arabic names and its links. Apparently, the "proper" English translation of an Arabic name with "al-" or "el-" is the uncapitalized form and our convention is to use that as the article name, but the uncapitalized forms are so common in the sources that we are advised to be very aggressive about creating redirects. Essentially, the "el" or "al" means "the", so capitalizing is is equivilent to capitalizing "the" in Bob the Builder. -Arch dude (talk) 16:33, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
Your article will be reviewed in about a week
[edit]I made and edit and published. Wikipedia then says, "your article will be reviewed in about a week". If I then make another edit 3 days later, does the week long estimate start over? Does my article go back to the end of the line for review? Or, does it stay in que in the same position?
If I submit an article and wikiepedia says it will be reviewed in about a week, then I make edits 3 days later and publish again, does my article for review stay in the same place in the que, or does the clock start over and my article goes back to the end of the que? Blmalone (talk) 11:33, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- Blmalone the message says, "This may take a week or more, since drafts are reviewed in no specific order." There is not a queue, so you will not lose your place by further edits. TSventon (talk) 11:46, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
Help
[edit]Hi Wikipedia Help Desk participants, When i try to edit any article on Wikipedia by mobile at desktop mode at that time one notice appears i.e You are using a browser which is not officially supported by this editor. Please tell me how to solve this problem.Fade258 (talk) 14:03, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Fade258: I’ve never seen that before. You might have more luck at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 14:51, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- Fade258, I've seen it, but was a while ago and my memory is hazy. Would you have been using an older version of iOS Safari with Visual Editor? ⁓ Pelagic ( messages ) 13:56, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Pelagic:, I am editing through mobile by mobile desktop mode with google chrome browser.Fade258 (talk) 14:49, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Help Save Faith,
[edit]Hello,
A big thank you for the use of Wikipedia, I have created an acount called Help Save Faith, Am I able to share Photos, Videos, as well as information on the User Page, And is the talk page for general discussion regarding other isues as wel as Help Save Faith,??
Thank you again,Help Save Faith, (talk) 14:21, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Help Save Faith,: Sorry, but no. Please read WP:NOT. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a blog or social media. You may use your user page to tell us about yourself as a wikipedia editor, e.g. what sort of Wikipedia activities you enjoy. See WP:USERPAGE. Article talk pages are specifically NOT for general discussion of the topic. They are for collaboration about how to improve the article. -Arch dude (talk) 14:42, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
Ivermectin, Hydroxychloroquine...
[edit]It would seem that the long arm of pharmaceuticals has invaded every information source on earth. Media, through their censorship, has doomed them to obscurity. No one believes them anymore. and now we come to find out that Wikipedia is no different.

- We cannot reply to generalized statements like this. If you find a error on any article, then please comment on the article's talk page. Provide reliable sources. -Arch dude (talk) 16:17, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- It would seem that the long arm of conspiracy nuts has invaded every information source on earth. Media, through their lack of oversight,
hashave doomed us to being bombarded by their incessant, unhinged blather. No one with any sense believes them anymore. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:03, 14 August 2021 (UTC)- Also, what does "Media, through their censorship, has doomed them to obscurity" even mean? If the media are ignoring them, then what's your problem? Fair use on photo of people
[edit]Why I cannot have fair use on living person? because only dead person have lesser privacy protection? How to get possible to use photo of living people other than fair use? thank you. Hmht45tgree3d (talk) 20:13, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- Be the copyright holder of an image. We cannot have fair use on living people, as generally the WP:NFCC criteria of being replaceable isn't met. If someone is alive, then someone could take a free image of the subject. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:18, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Lee Vilenski: Obligatory nitpick: "fair use" is a US copyright law concept that does not involve the living/dead distinction. On Wikipedia, we have in addition to fair use NFCC#1, which is understood to ban photographs of living persons. But that criterion would not apply on other websites. - @Hmht45tgree3d: If you cannot take a picture yourself, you can try sending a polite request to the person or the person's agent asking for a picture to be placed on the web somewhere with an explicit CC-BY-SA license. Explain why you want this. -Arch dude (talk) 22:50, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

YesAutosign
[edit]Twice today I have left posts unsigned. I have the YesAutosign template on my talk page, and it usually works, but not today. Any ideas? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 21:52, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- The bot that automatically signs posts is down, and it's operator hasn't edited since October 2020. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:00, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- That's a fine howdy-doo. OK, thanks for looking into this! ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 22:10, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Baseball Bugs: If you're looking for auto-signing, have you looked into using the Discussion Tools beta feature, Enterprisey's reply-link.js, or Convenient Discussions? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 22:22, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ideas. I think I'll just have to be sure to sign my posts in future. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 03:14, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
