I hate to do this to someone who clearly has done a lot of good work in their life, but she seems to fail WP:GNG and WP:NPROF. There is practically no news coverage of her beyond WP:NOBITS. She has exactly one notable paper and while that does seem to get a bit of citing, it's probably not enough, as usually need multiple notable publications to be considered notable. Comment. It appears likely that one or both of her books should be notable, although finding reviews is more difficult for someone who worked before the internet era. FWIW, there's another, earlier, profile of her in the Star Bulletin [1]. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 19:15, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep per WP:GNG and WP:HEY. The sources identified by Somebodyidkfkdt and Russ Woodroofe were particularly helpful – absolute best of the lot included "IRMA TAM SOONG: Historian" in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin in 1990, and "Whither the Chinese History Center?" in the the Honolulu Advertiser in 1974. Soong is discussed and quoted in numerous other newspaper articles, also in California where she was a frequent public speaker as well as a lecturer in Chinese language and literature at Pomona College. In terms of national recognition, Soong received a an award from the American Association for State and Local History in 1975. As noted by Oaktree b above, her most widely cited work is her 1997 article in The Hawaiian Journal of History, titled "Sun Yat-sen's Christian Schooling in Hawai'i", which is quoted in various publications such as Sino-Christian Studies, the Journal of Pacific History, and Chinese America: History and Perspectives. The article now tells a very complete story about the life of Irma Tam Soong, and there are numerous other sources cited in the article now besides.
