@Joris Darlington Quarshie: how did this turn out? I think you may have found, also considering the previous request, that it helps if people are actually experiencing blocks. For Ghana, a block is almost certain, which is why I usually specifically mention that country when it comes to IPBE requests. For Nigeria, it's much, much, less likely. @Vchimpanzee:. I guess this is resolved, but yes I can confirm there's been some activity from that IP address that you can't see without being a checkuser. You might also want to see other IPs within the same /24 range which are part of the same problem. I'm very comfortable with this block. If I'm away in the future, you are always welcome to ask another checkuser about any checkuser blocks I've made. I'm a bit indifferent about that really. It's a shared IP, so it's going to get reassigned, and has probably already been used by someone else. The older warnings almost certainly don't apply to the user who I know had it recently. The flip side is that any new message concerning past activity is unlikely to reach anyone relevant. Do we want to keep a load of irrelevant warnings that people won't notice unless they get a new one? There's an argument that some stock of warnings can be useful in getting IPs blocked quicker. I saw you cleaned up some vandalism on Billy Cranston. I ran into the strangest new editor tonight, User:Macorition, who, after being active less than an hour, started closing AFD discussions and tagging articles for deletion! I blocked them for disruptive editing. I bring the case to you because one of their first edits was to set up Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/billy Cranston. Hi Liz. Yes that's them. It's a pretty weird LTA with certain opinions about wiki administration. They've been closing AfDs, SPIs, and unblock requests, impersonating people and doing other trolling for years. See this very potted history. The power rangers thing is just them in the process of confirming that Sro23 is never wrong about sockmasters (it's a long story). So you'll see Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Billy Cranston and various other versions of this merge proposal have been deleted. I don't really care about it, but someone might want to convey to this user that they've misunderstood some things. Going forward, SPIs are all over the place, if there's to be one in the future, I'd say choose Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/BuickCenturyDriver. -- zzuuzz (talk) 08:40, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nyxaros, your deletion of negative reviews on Padre Pio (film) seemed highly suspect. Vandalism was too strong of a word choice. However, User:2601:644:400:E930:6D5F:860D:A025:C841, who admitted to having worked on the film's production, was largely deleting criticism of the film from the page and adding fluff to make it look more positive. At first glance, it looked like you were both accounts. If not, then I apologize. Nonetheless, I restored the content you removed without providing proper reason, nor did you make note of this on the talk page. Both film reviews you deleted come from well-known film critics and had proper citations. As it stands, the film's criticism section is not excessively long, accurately reflected critical consensus, and thus does not warrant deletion of RogerEbert.com's & Armond White's reviews. I literally did not delete any review. I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion (and still think so), but if you actually clicked "view history", you would see. I edited the page first time by removing "the film received mostly negative reviews" only, which is an unsourced statement and a new thesis that isn't verifiable from the sources. I'm sorry but I'd like to ask you to not block me. My IP is changing every 30 minutes, and I don't have anything common with a long-term abuser that you usually cite, "Frank M...son LTA", except that both him and me are Lihuanian IPs on the same ISP. 50% of IP addresses in Lithuania are 90.13X.XXX.XXX, and I do not insert any information that's unsourced, let alone abusive one. I am reaching out to you again because the IP that you blocked made a similar edit on the page again today (and I think this IP turned out to be User:CoffeeMeAlready?), before two other IPs (this and this) also made similar contributions. Page protection or more blocks may be appropriate to stop the same changes being made on a regular basis. Here is an example of edit difference, using duplicate bare urls, repetitive/unnecessary info, WP:FORBES and falsely claiming "well-documented prevailing consensus in the press" for critical acclaim (which only has Fortune (magazine) mentioning right now). ภץאคгöร 20:48, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A big thank you for safeguarding the quality of articles and preventing further problematic editing and vandalism. My recent edits to the Barbie (film) article have improved the content that IP users keep changing, so I don't expect further changes on the same topic (just like what happened on Oppenheimer (film)). However, assuming that some of them are in fact the same person, it is possible that we will see changes to other content on the page in the future. I should have mentioned that the the user's most recent account before they started using XR228 was Coola 1028. Coola 1028 was blocked on Sep. 22 after I reported it. On Sep. 23, a brand new account, XR228 suddenly starts editing sports related articles similar to what the user's previous accounts have done, which seemed very suspicious to me. I reverted their edits, enforcing WP:EVADE, which states that "Anyone is free to revert any edits made in violation of a ban or block, without giving any further reason and without regard to the three-revert rule. This does not mean that edits must be reverted just because they were made by a banned editor (changes that are obviously helpful, such as fixing typos or undoing vandalism, can be allowed to stand), but the presumption in ambiguous cases should be to revert." Sometimes a page in userspace can be enough, and not too much. If it's too much you get WP:DENY problems. Posts on social media about wiki being untrustworthy

I have just joined wiki editing etc I've been on social media platforms all of them for years, MySpace Bulletin board system etc the last few years have been slowly but surely getting worse and worse with disinformation fake news massive spamming of established News TV newspapers online accounts. Especially in comments sections of a report post etc I've seen tiktok especially last 2 years dive bombing into total control by super sized troll groups and I mean thousands of memmbers 😳I think by seeing how accounts following followers a lot are freelance world wide members recruited and paid somehow? Purley by all accounts connected are posting the same narrative scripting worded slightly different. Anyway lol ill get to the point I've been seeing a spike in comments and posts replys etc saying Wikipedia is not trustworthy, misinformation site etc specifically since Ukraine war and Israeli Gaza troubles 🤔 I need a bit of direction to where I should go on wiki users groups pages admins etc so I can learn more credible info and see where I can help combat these type of threats 😁Thanks MrHugepiles (talk) 22:36, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@MrHugepiles: Welcome to the future. It might help to consider all information sources untrustworthy. For the relevant policies, it's probably best to start with the 'fundamental' policies of WP:V, WP:NPOV, and WP:NOR (and for convenience I'll also include WP:RS in that list). For previous examples you could start by looking at Wikipedia:Disinformation, Reliability of Wikipedia, or Criticism of Wikipedia. You can find current examples in CAT:NPOV. Meanwhile, you can observe, or help, the sausage being made at WP:NPOVN and the talk pages of the relevant articles. Some important stuff will also turn up at WP:AN or WP:ANI. That's just the briefest overview. @Kinvidia: It can be on any wiki, not just this one, maybe twwiki or even meta. I'm sure one of you can find an IP which is not globally blocked from creating accounts. Anyone who knows this user's email address (with their own unblocked IP) can use Special:CreateAccount (on any wiki) to create the account and have the password sent directly to the new user. The canonical alternative is to use WP:ACC, which may not be so straightforward and in which case I'd suggest a brief explanation referencing the general problem as well as this discussion. Thanks for looking into it. The account was obviously created to follow me around. This LTA seems to create some SPAs that agree with me, no matter what, and others that disagree with me, no matter what. Then the LTA plays the two against each other, to create chaos and derail the conversation. I'm more than 99% sure this account is one of the "agree" accounts made by the original LTA. I think I've cleaned up everything was still visible! The account is block-suppressed (WP:OS#Actions, point 4 if you're interested). The advantage of this is that it removed it from logs and special pages (including Special:ListUsers) which can't be done with admin tools. Indeed I would, Zzuuzz. But 'nonce' is a pretty specialist British slang and often not heard much evenout of London (unlike, say, 'idiot', which is universal). Hence, it may easily be something that someone from elsewhere in the globe would not instinctively recognise. Both the examples I gave two examples (pop. culture, unsurprisingly), from a 1980 song and a 1986 film character, and I kept both to the minimum (the former half a verse, the latter, one line from a speech).
Personally, if I encountered a five-day-old account that took experienced editors to WP:ANEW on their `15th edit, to AN/I on their 18th and was calling for 'a visible warning, if not a short block' on their 20th, I'd be reaching for the pixie perfume.
