Why Robin Good?

The film refers to the figure of Robin Hood. If you want to transliterate the Russian name (why?) then it must be Robin Gud. There is no explanation for Robin Good. Voyevoda (talk) 10:00, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

The film refers to the figure of Robin Hood and I don't think we should distract this fact by the unneccessary use of transcription in this case. The word Good has another meaning in English, creating new associations, which were originally not intended that way. Your argument about Гад is also questionable, since we usually don't use transcription on wikipedia, but transliteration. Translit will be Strely Robin Guda and that's awful for an English reader (transcription should be preferable). Yes, I'm aware that "Good" creates additional connotations, but ask half of a people in Russia from what English word Robin Hood's surname came. I may assure you that the answer will be Good. I agree with renaming the article, though. Thanks for your comprehension. I don't think that what Soviet citizens thought who were mostly uneducated in English, matters on English wikipedia. Translit can be applied to the whole name or just to the hero's name. Voyevoda (talk) 23:44, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

"The" animator.ru

Yuriy, I keep noticing that you're editing pages that say "at animator.ru" to say "at the Animator.ru". This is not correct. Website names shouldn't be capitalized, and putting "the" in front of it is just plain wrong. Compare: at ebay (11,500,000 hits) vs. at the ebay (380,000 hits). The only time anyone says "at the eBay" is when they're saying "at the eBay [event]". It is the same way for any other website, animator.ru included. Esn (talk) 10:15, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. I had a look at the article and, while it's not crammed with references, I think it has passed someone's scrutiny sufficiently to have been marked as examined but not tagged for speedy deletion. I don't intend to so tag it at the moment. Although it does seem unusual to me that the person listed as the article's creator seems to have copied the material from a sandbox page of yours, if the article is not getting speedy-tagged, it seems as though it's sufficiently ready to be mounted, just in case anyone is looking for information about this individual. Apparently all three of us want this article to exist in some form or another. So I'm not absolutely sure what the best thing to do here would be, but my current inclination is to do nothing, because it looks as though the article will remain in its present form. If you want to add MORE references to the article, that of course would be both sensible and welcome. And if I have somehow mistaken your wishes here, please feel free to tell me exactly what you think would be the best course of action. Accounting4Taste:talk 17:30, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

It occurs to me that you were suggesting that the person listed as the article's creator had somehow infringed on copyright by copying the material from your page within Wikipedia. I don't think that's the case; it might be considered impolite, but the notice at the bottom of every page of editing says specifically that everything written within Wikipedia's boundaries is open-source (that's my paraphrasing). Yes, all text within Wikipedia is open source, better say open content licensed under the terms of GNU FDL, but that does mean attribution to other authors of the work: clauses 4.D (Preserve all the copyright notices of the Document) and 4.J (Preserve the network location, if any, given in the Document for public access to a Transparent copy of the Document, and likewise the network locations given in the Document for previous versions it was based on. These may be placed in the "History" section. You may omit a network location for a work that was published at least four years before the Document itself, or if the original publisher of the version it refers to gives permission).
I'll hold in respect your decision, and glad you've changed your mind about that article. If it would not make any difficulties for you, I'd like to ask about merging my sandbox article with that in primary Wikispace (dates will allow the merge).

You seem much better informed than I about the precise meaning of the GNU FDL, so if there is still something that you would like to have happen here, perhaps you should take the lead and do it -- if someone has a problem with it, there are avenues whereby the question could be submitted to those more expert than I in these matters, and I can find out what they are and how to use them if you wish. According to the "Merge" page of information, you don't need any special privileges to merge pages as long as it's not controversial -- you just identify which materials in one article are not in the other, transfer them there (probably using cut and paste), and create a re-direct from the article which is to be deleted. I believe since one is a sandbox page, it would be permissible to not make it into a redirect. My difficulty here (other than to be sure of exactly what you want) is that, as near as I can tell, the information on the two pages is identical, and there's nothing that requires merging. Is it that you somehow want to merge the edit histories of the two pages by doing a "full-content paste merger"? I don't see the point, but again, you're entitled to do that if you're logged in to your account, AFAIK it doesn't take administrative tools. My apologies if I have somehow mistaken your wishes; I hope to be as helpful as possible, and if I have failed to grasp what it is you want, please let me know. I have come to the page of Igor Pavlov from 7zip page. I saw the redirect was made to your userpage which - unfortunately did not seem to have words "Proposed article for" and date did not seem to be recent to point that the article was been worked upon. I would have not proceeded if I had slightest indication that the work is in progress. As it looked some wrong redirect and that the article was initially speedy deleted - I created a new page with different name and pointed 7zip article links to it. If you looked through my user page you would know why I'm knowledgeable in this particular field. ;-)
Added a structure of Buk-M1-2. I'll later take some time to add some refs to all my inclusions (there are some in the ru article) and I'll probably start some copyediting of Kub, Buk and Buk-M1-2 in my userspace.
Maybe I was too self-assured in the discussion and, of course, the series can be merged together. But I'm not quite sure if it should be done, just imagine the mega huge article of the S series from S-25 up to S-400 (or at least up to S-125)... Speedy deletion of Kinzhal

    • Can I make the point that the most recent issue is very F1-news based, the kind of info that could be got anywhere. As our aim is to be writing an encyclopaedia, I feel it should focus more on WPF1-news, and the race report writing should be focussed on either Wikinews or more formally as part of the encyclopaedia entries here.
