Mississippi (song)

I've updated the charts table and the infobox for this song with all the verifiable sources I could find. I have added the Australian chart position – it reached number 1 in South Africa but the chart is a radio chart so I don't know if this counts as an official chart, so I have left it out for the time being. The song was released in the US and Canada in 1977 (twice, in fact, first on the Private Stock label and then on Capitol Records) but did not chart at all... I think that perhaps the Americans were not happy about Europeans making country music. Richard3120 (talk) 19:02, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your help! I used your data too, to update the article in Dutch language. I cannot copy-paste your sources there, because I have not read your sources myself, but am allowed to refer to the English article and your statement here above (the last one I hope :-).[1] The most important charts in the Netherlands - Top 40 and the figures that are gathered on Dutch Charts (several charts that serveral times changed name and are called the Singles Top 100 currently) - have started as radio lists as well. For that reason I have included the South African chart in Dutch as wel.

And guess what, another nice thing happened to the Dutch article earlier today, namely it is included in the Did You Know-section (we'er in the process of updating it currently).[2] So that's a very nice combination today!

Hi Ymnes, no problem at all, and congratulations on getting a "Did You Know" (I can't speak Dutch, but I speak enough German to be able to understand what it says in your link :-) ). The information that the song was released twice in the US comes from Billboard magazine (the trade magazine for the music industry) in the issue 7 May 1977, page 34, which you can see here – the words are not very clear but towards the bottom of the page in the section "Talent Talk" it says, "Capitol has purchased the master from Private Stock of the single 'Mississippi" by Pussycat, a Dutch group. Capitol reports that the single has sold 3.8 million copies abroad, but when it was first released here, it died. Now Capitol will try again." Country Duets

Hello Ymnes, I'm glad to note that someone has finally written a Dutch article on her. This is was much required as most of her shows are in Netherlands and Germany these days. Unfortunately I'm not Dutch and dont speak it either. Regarding 'Country Duets' no its not to be mixed with American Duets because the latter was recorded with Benny Neyman and the former with Dick Van Altena who at that time was a part of Major Dundee. Whether there was an album with that name or not, I will verify and get back to you. It may be that there were sporadic singles that made entry into various Major Dundee Albums. I will need to recheck. Regarding your second query, the gentleman as mentioned IS Werner Theunissen and this I know for fact as I have other pictures of him as well and it is indeed him. I have seen many good articles of him in the name space. I even asked him to join the Wiki goes Caribbean project (writing month "Suriname and the Caribbean") that is running this month on nl.Wikipedia. In that case he only needs to translate his own articles into Dutch. I don't know what I can do for him here on English Wikipedia. Is there a place where discussion is concentrated? Hi, I was glad to say a word in the List of Music Museums article. I had not known about it, but it looks like a good list. I see you have done other music-related articles. Something you might consider is looking at the Mandolin article. I am curious if there is any mandolin-related music in the Netherlands, where it appears you are from. @Jacqke: Thank you for your compliment! The mandoline is not a particular instrument for the Netherlands, and from a quick search I learn that it is used a lot in folk styles, classical styles and American music like blue grass and probably Americana :-) I found one Dutch musical instruments maker though, Hendrik van den Broek, that seems to have an international reputation. However, I'm afraid that I don't know enough to add at the mandolin article. When you can find someone that understands Japanese, it might be a good idea to have ja:マンドリンの音の博物館 (Mandolin Melodies Museum) translated into English. I will translate your article and any other referenced Japanese music museum in November in Dutch. I was already planning on participating. :) The library I work at specializes in Japanese history, so I was planning to spend the month writing some more biographies that don't seem to exist yet in English or Japanese. I will try to plan something Japanese for November. If nothing else, I have photos from Kumumoto, from the castle that might be interesting. As to Asian, have been trying to get Cambodian musical instruments articles up this whole month. I think the most interesting translatable article might be sections of one I started a while ago, taking a break from: History of lute-family instruments which has a lesser section dealing with Central Asia and China.Jacqke (talk) 19:48, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Suriname article translation request

Hey Ymnes, I wrote the article about the Brazil–Suriname border a few months ago and came across Conrad Carel Käyser while doing my research. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any English language articles about him so I wasn't able to write his article. Would you be open to translating his wikipedia page from Dutch? I unfortunately have no knowledge of Dutch. I believe he's a semi-important character in Suriname's history as his expedition, detailed in "Verslag der Corantijn-expeditie (19 Juli 1910 - 1 April 1911)", was directly responsible for setting Suriname's border with Brazil. I've noticed you've been doing a lot of work on fixing Suriname's borders on maps shown on wikipedia so I thought this could be a good article for you :) BaduFerreira (talk) 01:01, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

@BaduFerreira: it's ready, see Conrad Carel Käyser. I am not someone that has read a lot about Surinamese borders, as you may have expected, but more about Suriname in general. It is true I wrote the nl-wiki article about C.C. Käyser but that was in 2009, so I forgot most of the details. This new article is nice, with some other knowledge abot him than in the Dutch article so a person who reads both gets some extra information. I just uploaded a photo of him in a navy uniform (see here). Since Käyser was better known as an explorer, I wouldn't change the current picture in the article. - Robotje (talk) 15:24, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

Surinaamse digitale boekenplank

Hoi Ymnes, ik kwam net hier een soort Surinaamse digitale boekenplank tegen. Voor sommige door mij geschreven artikelen heb ik gebruik gemaakt van stukjes informatie die ik via Google Books kon vinden in K'ranti! De Surinaamse pers, 1774-2008. Dat was behoorlijk omslachtig omdat ik dat boek zelf niet kon raadplegen en ik via Google Books alleen maar een of twee zinnen tegelijkertijd zag. Intussen is dat boek net als soortgelijke boeken over Suriname blijkbaar als pdf online beschikbaar. Voor een deel van de andere boeken en zo op die pagina, gaat het gewoon om links naar boeken op de website van DBNL die je waarschijnlijk al heel wat keren daar geraadpleegd hebt. Maar ook dan kan zo'n overzicht helpen. Indien je dit overzicht niet kent, lijkt het me zeker een aanrader. - Robotje (talk) 07:11, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

@Robotje: Dankjewel voor die link! Ik kende deze pagina nog niet en ik ga hem bij de bronnenpagina vermelden in het Suriname-project. Het boek 'Kranti' heb ik toevallig thuis, maar het is soms ideaal als er online in gezocht kan worden. Via Google Books is het inderdaad soms erg lastig. Ymnes (talk) 08:59, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
