Nonresponsive Script[edit]

When I press EDIT to edit my page, it takes a while to load, then says that there may be a non-responsive script on the page, not allowing me to edit. Is this just a thing that happens sometimes, or did I do something? --Iliada (talk) 15:03, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Iliada[reply]

It sounds like just a glitch in Wikipedia. Have you added any features to Wikipedia (like Twinkle or Huggle)? These are basically java scripts that add on to the Wikipedia interface. I'm just grasping at straws here, as I have never had the problems you mention. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:01, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I already stopped[edit]

When you sent me a message, i stopped my patrol for that. Please understand, i can't find anything in search engine like Google about information of those articles. So i marked them as nonsense.  CHJL  Discuss 16:37, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If there is nothing in Google about the issue, then it may be non-notable, which can be deleted under WP:CSD#A7. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion and be sure to pick the correct one. And on a separate note, I see that you have placed {{Welcome Anon TAMU}} on several users' talk pages. This template is meant to encourage ANONYMOUS IP users to create an account, yet you have placed it on pages of existing account holders. This type of miscommunication can hamper the enthusiasm of newcomers. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:41, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, i see that! Oh yeah, i know that i make mistakes like that, i want to find a welcome message, but in hurry, i found that without read first. But now, i don't make that mistakes again. Please give me any advices in the future, OK? Cheers.  CHJL  Discuss 16:45, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One last piece of advice for now -- Edit Summaries!! Please complete the edit summary box for all article edits that you make so that users can see quickly what you have done. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:51, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, next i will do that, thanks for your advices! By the way, can you tell me about the best message for the newcomer beside {{Welcome}}?  CHJL  Discuss 16:54, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just scroll through Category:Welcome templates and choose the one you like best. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:58, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, i found that, but i guess all of them are same as simple as the {{welcome}} template. Wanna make a new one?  CHJL  Discuss 17:05, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Format[edit]

How can I make text bold, italicized, or underlined? --Iliada (talk) 18:10, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Iliada[reply]

To make text bold, surround it with three quote marks: '''Text''' yields Text. For italicized, use two quotes: ''Text'' yields Text. For underlined, use <u>Text</u> to get Text. You might want to consult WP:Help for answers to these and many more questions. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:37, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Song?[edit]

Since my great-grandmother wrote this song, I was wondering if I could upload it and have a link to it. Is this possible? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iliada (talkcontribs) 01:30, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That depends on whether you own the copyright, or if the copyright has expired (in the US, that would be 70 years after her death). If not, you may not upload it without permission from the copyright owner. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:05, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The CD it is from is very old. I searched for the copyright owner with the library information specialist of my school, and we couldn't find it. I talked to my grandfather, and he said it was most likely out of date. Is there a family permission, because my great grandfather did write it? Maybe he owns the copyright? --Iliada (talk) 14:57, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Iliada[reply]
If it is on a CD, then whoever published the CD has the copyright. You will need to contact them. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:59, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'll look into the copyright and who owns it. But let's say I do have permission to add it, how do I go about that. I thought you could only upload .jpg's. --Iliada (talk) 20:26, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Iliada[reply]
You can upload any type of media (assuming you own the copyright or the work is in the public domain) to Wikimedia Commons. This is a sister project to Wikipedia. Any media objects stored there can be included on Wikipedia pages. Wikimedia prefers (requires?) sound files to be uploaded in Ogg format rather than in MP3 or WAV or WMA formats (which are the most common formats generated by CD ripping software on PCs). You might have some difficulty with this. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:17, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ketron page[edit]

Hi - you redirected the ketron page i made to the generic Peek page. I wonder if you have suggestions for me - i would think that an article about ketron would be valuable. and if someone searches for ketron and just sees the PEEK page i think it would just be confusing. How would they know what ketron is then? —Preceding unsigned comment added by PlasticsData (talkcontribs) 15:38, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You could make a notation on the PEEK page that it is sold under the brand name Ketron. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:40, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok i'll try that. However I believe there is precedence for having a specific article for Polymer trade names. For instance i found Lexan and ultem. So why is Ketron or other polymer tradenames inappropriate?--PlasticsData (talk) 21:19, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you'll notice, the Ultem page is being considered for merger with its generic counterpart. Lexan is a special case in that Lexan is a unique patented composition, not just a brand name for a generic composition.

LiveInternet page[edit]

Hi, on the Liveinternet article I've added some of the references which come from the universal Russian search engine Yandex. These references were also used in the Russian Wikipedia. Uvula! (talk) 21:03, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's a good start, but as far as I can tell (I don't really speak Russian), all those links do is verify the existence of LiveInternet. They do not assert its notability. If LiveInternet is Russia's answer to Yahoo or AOL, or some other significant US internet service, there should be references in independent, third-party sources. If li.ru is NOT so significant, it may not deserve its own article on Wikipedia. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:07, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm fairly new to editing and I'm just not sure what kinds of sites would be best to show its significance. It is #19 on Alexa for the top 100 sites in Russia, and the Yandex search engine (the 2nd reference) lists Li.ru as the third most popular blogging service for Russians, bested only by LiveJournal (used worldwide) and Mail.ru (which almost every Russian uses for e-mail service). Later tonight I'll try and find some more reputable sources, although they are likely going to be in the Russian language. Uvula! (talk) 21:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I've deleted the db-notice. Keep an eye on the page -- another editor may nominate it through WP:Articles for deletion.

Where edges Meet[edit]

Hi, I am a new contributor to wikipedia and my page Where Edges Meet has been deleted twice. On the wikipage, I am using information that was taken directly from the artist/label's homepage [here], and linked to it at the bottom. CorenBot has flagged my page twice saying that my content is under copyright infringement. However, the source CorbenBot linked to [here], is not the original owner of the information, it's just something someone had posted on a message board. Does that make sense? Is there anyway we can put the wikipage back up? thanks for your help Emdog4 (talk) 21:35, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, once that information was posted on that other website, it became the property of that website. In order to post such information to Wikipedia, the owner of the website will need to either post a GFDL or other similar free-use disclaimer on their site. See WP:Copyright for more information. Reliable sources are defined at WP:Reliable sources. In general, publications that are edited and fact-checked make reliable sources. Sources (such as online Wikis, blogs, etc) that are UNCHECKED and may contain any level of factual truth, are NOT reliable. Also, as I look at your talk page, you have not been blocked. You have been asked to slow down and edit more carefully. Run your posts through a spell-checker and grammar checker, and look through Wikipedia to find out if there is an article that already discusses the topic at hand rather than just blindly adding new (and not necessarily significant) information. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:51, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Song[edit]

I have spoken to a Wikipedia Commons editor, and he helped me find out that I am allowed to upload the song. I have put it on Wikimedia Commons under the name File:Horiata.ogg. How can I link it under the word HORIATA, so when a person clicks the link, the song plays? --Iliada (talk) 21:45, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Iliada[reply]

Apparently, while you have named the file with the .ogg extension, what you have actually uploated is an MP3 file. Wikipedia is not able to embed MP3 files into pages in the same way it embeds OGG files. You need to find an application that creates an actual Ogg Vorbis sound file, and then upload that file to Wikimedia Commons. Once you have done so, you can embed the sound clip on a page using the {{listen}} template. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 22:36, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy v. AfD[edit]

I agree with your sentiments, but I have changed tactics. Many editors view the criterion for speedy as "the article says nothing that could conceivably be linked to a claim of notability" (not "the article doesn't make a claim of notability"), so speedy is declined. Then, even when speedy is accepted, the article is speedily recreated and speedy for recreated material doesn't apply. So a clean AfD allows for a discussion on the merits (not what might be the merits), and has the bonus of giving an evergreen G4 option. Bongomatic 13:45, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of DEISA references[edit]

I am the technical coordinator of the DEISA project. As a starting point to reference this project in wikipedia I copied some part of our web-page DEISA to wikipedia. This is no violation of Copyright. What do I have to do to avoid deletion? —Preceding unsigned comment added by A. Schott (talkcontribs)

Simply claiming ownership to the material is not sufficient. Since there is no way for anyone to verify that you ARE, in fact, the material's owner, anyone could come on Wikipedia and claim ownership of any copyrighted material. Please refer to Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials in order to learn the process for allowing copyrighted material to appear on Wikipedia. Also, you should note that, as an interested party in DEISA, your contributions to this article represent a conflict of interest. You should wait for a neutral third party to create an article about your entity in order to avoid a biased article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:25, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In principle you are right. But I considered it useful for an encyclopedia to contain some reference. I could simply remove all contents and point only to the original web-page. The contents of DEISA is just a sample of facts of a partially publicly funded European project. So you may delete it. I will then simply put a one liner and an external link. Actually I fell over an empty reference to the DEISA_Benchmark_Suite on the page Benchmark_(computing) and I considered it to be in the interest of wikipedia to fill some contents inside wikipedia not just putting an external reference there. BTW the text of the page DEISA_Benchmark_Suite is not from the web-site, so I do not understand the cause, why this is marked for deletion, except for a potential COI. But actually I see no real chance for any conflict, since there is no opinion or advertisement, it is just some facts, which can easily be proven.

Do not just leave a simple one-line article with a link to the site, as that will also be deleted. I suggest, rather, that you merge your content with the content at Benchmark (computing), adding what few details are necessary on that page to provide reference to your project. Or, as an alternative, if you think your project is notable enough for its own article, you can place a request at WP:Requested articles. By the way, I can't delete your article as I'm not an administrator. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:11, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There was an empty article pointing to the DEISA_Benchmark_Suite. So someone who edited the Benchmark_(computing) considered this worth an own article. I just filled it and considered the European project (funded with more than 10MEuro of public money), which is responsible for this Benchmark Suite, of enough interest for its own article. But actually I cannot write anything really different from what I did, since the contents is provable facts. And I consider it not in contradiction with the COI rules, but if this is seen differently inside wikipedia, delete it (not you, but whoever). A. Schott (talk) 15:30, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have deleted the spam tag on DEISA Benchmark Suite and called for expert attention to the article. However, the DEISA article still represents a copyright violation. This cannot be allowed; Wikipedia is quite strict about such things. Unless the article can be fundamentally rewritten to remove the copyrighted material, it will be deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:54, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, WikiDan61. You have new messages at A. Schott's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

The DEISA article got deleted and I have put a rewritten version there informing the deleting admin about that, so he can check, whether this is ok now. Song[edit]

I have spoken with a Wikipedia editor, and he has helped me solve the whole song problem. It is now uploaded and on my page. But, it says I need to put the proper image copyright tag on it, or it will soon be deleted. Does the site think it's an image? If so, how can I fix this, and solve all this? --Iliada (talk) 01:17, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Iliada[reply]

The warning specifically states "This image or media...". Clearly, your file falls under the category of media, but you still need to provide information about WHY it is allowed to be on Wikipedia. You say that someone else helped you figure out the copyright issue; I'm surprised they didn't tell you how to mark the file to avoid being deleted. I've never uploaded media, so I'm not sure what the options are. You can check out Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/All to find out what tags are available to place on the file in order to assert your right to upload the file. The other editor who helped you figure out that you ARE allowed to upload the file might be able to tell you which of these copyright tags applies to your file. Blog Wars[edit]

You proposed deletion of page on Blog Wars. I am putting up the page and struggling to get to grips with the site. It is a notable film - the first major documentary on political bloggers. It was shortlisted for a Grierson Award and highly acclaimed in the press. It is currently touring Russia with the Frontline Club as a representative example of free media.

I am just not quite sure how to design the page.

Ripleywelles (talk) 14:16, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Judging from the conversation I had with the article's author on my talk page, it looks like it was a cut-and-paste move of the existing article at the artist's previous name, Corinna Fugate. Unfortunately, that page is largely the same, with the same Youtube/MySpace references, irrelevant fan praise, and COI problems. Unfortunately, that page has been prodded and contested several times already, so it would probably have to go to AfD if you think it should still be deleted. Currently I have the Rose Mercury page redirecting to the Corinna Fugate page, but as to what should be done from here, I'm kinda at a loss. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 22:32, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've included Thespian (talk · contribs) in my discussions of this article. As this is now a 3-way conversation, I suggest we continue it on Talk:Corinna Fugate. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:25, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates[edit]

I have been trying to add the coordinates of Mani, Greece on my page, but I can't get it to work. What do I do? --Iliada (talk) 14:06, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Iliada[reply]

I don't think it's appropriate to add the coordinates to your page, as it is about a person, not a place. Your page already contains a link to Mani. If you'd like to add the coordinates of Mani to that page, just add the template {{coord}} to the page. Look at the documentation for that template to see what parameters you need. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:22, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trix World[edit]

I had proposed a speedy delete on the redirect of "Trix World" to "Trix (cereal)" on the basis that it is an unlikely misspelling. You deleted the db tag on the basis that "Trix World" is an advertisement for Trix cereal. Yet the Trix article itself makes no mention of this fact. In order for the redirect to be valid, the target of the redirect should give the user SOME idea of why their search led them to the page it did. I.e., if I type "Trix World" in the search box, I should expect to find the words "Trix World" on the page I end up on. Don't you think? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:03, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If we delete Trix World then someone else will likely create it. The redirect is in place to direct a person searching for Trix World to the nearest article - Trix (cereal) is the nearest article, and once there a person can be satisfied by what they read, or can add to the article by providing information about Trix World in the most appropriate place. If there is no reponse to the search for Trix World the person is left nowhere - our software might offer Twin World as a possible target, but that's it. The person may then leave disatisfied, or may decide to create a new article called Twin World which might then be subjected to an AfD the result of which may be to redirect to Trix (cereal).
"Redirects are cheap" is a common phrase on WP. So common in fact that it has become a redirect to Wikipedia:Redirect - though when you get there, there is no explanation of the phrase, nor even the use of the word "cheap". So - redirects are cheap. And useful. And a redirect that is a mispelling of a word or phrase is appropriate, as people do mispell all sorts of words - The Beetles for example. Indeed, a redirect for a misspelling has a special tag: {{R from misspelling}}. The speedy rule is for "implausible typos", such as The Baatles. I hope this helps. I recently added his spouse, and it says spouse(s)Rhea Fteris. Is there a way I can get rid of the (s)?--Iliada 22:11, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's the way the infobox template is written. The only way to get rid of it is to rewrite the template, which I would discourage, as this requires a very high degree of familiarity with the Wiki language. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:26, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Citation[edit]

One of my references is a personal interview, and with the library information specialist at my school, we figured out that one would cite it as follows, Damianos, Elyana. Personal interview. 2 May 2008. But, when I tried to add citations to my article, there is no space for an interview. How can I do this? --Iliada 15:54, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you mean by "there is no space". That would imply that you have run out of available room in the article, but that doesn't make sense as Wikipedia articles are not limited in length. Can you please clarify? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:56, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Citation[edit]

When I press cite, the following comes up: web, news, book, journal... There is no interview button. --Iliada 19:38, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are using a feature that is not standard to the Wikipedia editor, but which may be an add-on from one of the "helper" functions that exists for Wikipedia. In order to add the citation you wish, simply type "<ref>citation text here</ref>" at the spot in your article where you would like the superscript note reference to appear. Maria Marcus[edit]

Don't you think it looked like a copyright violation - all that text, including a list of dates, and no formatting? jimfbleak (talk) 13:23, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I did, but I couldn't find any source from which the copyright would have been taken. It might have been the artist's own CV that she uses for press releases and such. The formatting certainly needed cleanup, and the article needed sourcing, but a Google search shows that this artist has made some noise in the art world, and such sources could be added to the article to bolster it. I can't guarantee a positive outcome, but I think there was enough assertion of notability to have avoided a speedy delete. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:26, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for fixing up my article! It is really good, and I updated it on my page. You put two "citation needed" in one of the sections. So I just added the citation. It is from the same source as another citation. But, at the bottom where all the references are listed, it is listed three times. How can I cite the source, but only have it appear once? Also, how can I find out if http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=el&u=http://wiki.phantis.com/index.php/Sophia_Vembo&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3DSophia%2BVembo%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%7C is a public domain image. I would like to have the singer on my page. --Iliada 19:34, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have taken the liberty of updating the reference syntax on your user page. The Phantis Wiki is a public domain site (no translation is necessary as the page is in English already). However, open Wiki's are generally not considered a reliable source, and should not be used in citations. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:40, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Final[edit]

I know I'm not near done yet, but when I finish, how do I get it to become a real page on Wikipedia that anyone can see? --Iliada 20:41, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When you're ready, edit your page, and select the entire contents of the edit box (you can type <ctrl>A with the cursor at any point in the edit box) and copy the contents to your clipboard (in most browsers, <ctrl>C will accomplish this). Then enter "George Fteris" in the search window on any Wikipedia page. You will get a page that says "No page with that name exists" and a list of options. One of the options will be highlighted in red saying "Create the page". Click on the red link, and you will get a new page to edit. In the edit box, paste the contents of your clipboard (usually <ctrl>V), preview the page, and if you like it, save it. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:56, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My ancestors: George House and Godfrey Cramer were killed in Joseph Brant's August 2, 1780 attack on Fort Plank. My ancestor: Conrad Cramer was captured by the British while out from Fort Plank and held in a Canadian prison for over three years. My ancestor: Daniel Lobdell was captured by the Britis at Yankees Bush on April 3, 1780 and carried to Canada as a prisoner there for three years. While under duress he gave the British inteeligence on troop movemnets to Fort Plank, one must wonder if the helath of his sons Joseph, James, and Zadock (also my ancestor) were threatened before he "spilled the beans".

Please help my create and save a wikipedia page for FORT PLANK, one that will ot be deleted. Any assistance you might offer will be more than welcomed!!!!!!!

A WHAT?![edit]

Your lucky i already print screened that page dude.

You friggan suck, all my hard wikiwork ruined! you are the destroyer of school projects. i demand the page be returned to its former glory!

Yours truly, Another guy named dan. THATS RIGHT you crossed your own kind. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hidden Bullet Skateboard (talkcontribs) 17:44, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your page still exists in all its former glory, at User:Hidden Bullet Skateboard. I didn't delete it, I just moved it, as it is not appropriate to have on the main article space. Had it remained there, it surely would have been deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:51, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My article entitled 'Upper Arlington Progressive Action' was deleted. I probably don't understand the Wikipedia policies. Was it a copyright problem? I fixed that on the site just now. I figured that since MoveOn had a page that other political groups could, too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sdybiec (talkcontribs) 22:12, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hill Machinery[edit]

Wow you seem to have a lot of complaints. I created the Hill Machinery website and am the sole publisher of all the content on the site, if im going through the steps wrong to manage the copyright information then you need to explain them more clearer, I got the copyright information from the sites you told me to go to for ensuring all the data is public knowledge and can be edited, and Im still up for speedy deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Koneill21 (talkcontribs) 14:08, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

unbelievable Koneill21 (talk) 14:09, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I only interacted with this article once, to post a speedy deletion request based on the non-notability of the company. All of the other "complaints" have been filed by other editors. However, they all seem to be legitimate concerns -- you have posted an article about a non-notable company, and in doing so you have violated the copyright policies of Wikipedia. You seem to have gone through the proper channels to address the copyright concerns (especially writing to permissions (at) wikimedia (dot) org). I'm not sure why the admins have not addressed the copyright concerns on that page, but as I am NOT an admin, I really can't help that. However, copyright issues aside, your article still does not assert the notability of Hill Machinery. Age alone does not confer notability. You will need to cite some reliable, third-party sources indicating that this company has made some significant contribution to the industry or the local economy. Good luck. Northeast atlanta ballet[edit]

neaballet i am so confused - please help Neaballet (talk) 14:28, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Marsha[reply]

I didn't see the original text of your article -- it had apparently already been deleted when you created a new page with the {{hangon}} tag. However, had you been able to get to the page before it was deleted, you should simply have placed the hangon tag, and then made any arguments for the page on the tab marked "Discussion". It is not clear WHY the first page was deleted, the notice you got was not terribly clear. It was PROBABLY because the Northeast Atlanta Ballet is not a notable organization (look at WP:GROUP for a definition of what a notable group is). In short, Wikipedia is not here to provide information about EVERY possible group, but only about NOTABLE topics. Notability is generally conferred by coverage in independent third-party sources (e.g. newspaper or magazine articles, reviews, etc). The issues about the conflict of interest stem from the fact that your username associates you closely with the entity you are writing about. In general, it is NOT considered a good idea to write about your self or your own company -- it is best to let third party authors create articles so that they are more unbiased. (See WP:COI for more information.) I hope I have helped. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:35, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Dan, it appeared to be a chat page to be used by the NE Atlanta Ballet, which goes against WP:NOTBLOG. I attempted to mark it for CSD but you and someone else beat me to it. --Tckma (talk) 14:39, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Finally, I want to excuse me about the incidents that happened with the Eleazar (painter) page because I’m a new Wikipedia user and I had problems for writing the article, the image files and for making the suitable references, all because of my poor level of English. If you think that the article can be improved, please let me know. Thanks.--81.39.1.110 (talk) 02:02, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First, I need to explain that I am NOT an administrator. I did not delete the page, but I did nominate it for deletion through the Articles for deletion process. The article remained under discussion for 10 days (longer than normal due to a lack of input -- the whole point is to gain consensus rather than allow a single voice to dictate). If you had wanted to save the article, you should have commented in that discussion. The article, as I recall, was an autobiography (which is highly discouraged on Wikipedia -- see WP:AUTO), and did not cite any references to back up the claims of notability. Since the artist goes by a single name, it was impossible to find relevant information on any search engines. In order to remain on Wikipedia, information must not only be notable, but verifiable. If the article is to be reintroduced, it should be done by an independent, third-party author, and it should include proper citations to verify the artist's accomplishments. The phrase "My 2¢ worth"[edit]

Hi. I notice that you explained "My 2¢ worth" to Eleazar in User talk:81.39.1.110 as "An American expression". You might be interested to know that in British English it has long existed as "My two penn'orth". SamuelTheGhost (talk) 13:59, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Organization/conflict of interest[edit]

Hello - I started a page for the organization for which I work (American Jewish World Service). I didn't realize until after you flagged the article that it was a conflict of interest. How should I proceed? Should the article be deleted?

The article seems to be somewhat promotional, rather than neutral in tone. It is generally considered inappropriate to introduce an article about your own organization for just this reason. If you feel that the organization really deserves a Wikipedia article, you can follow the suggestions here and here. As it stands, your article is probably in no immediate danger of being deleted, but it may well be nominated since it provides no citations outside of the organization's own website to assert that the organization is notable. Hello, WikiDan61. You have new messages at Ajws's talk page.

Organization/conflict of interest part 2[edit]

Hi - sorry to post a new talk item on your page, since this is continuing from a previous conversation, but I seemed to be doing something wrong when I tried to respond!

Now that I understand the issues of neutrality (I didn't realize before that someone from an organization can't post for their own organization) I think it is best if the page is deleted (American jewish world service). Since the neutrality issue will never be cleared up, I think it's better if we just remove the page entirely. I'd hate for the organization to be linked to any text that's considered unreliable. Sorry that I wasn't clear on the terms of use earlier.

How do I delete the page completely? Or could you do that? Thank you!Ajws (talk) 20:32, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to delete page, accused of vandalism[edit]

Hi there, I followed the directions you left for me:

I can't delete the page. But if you edit the page and delete all the content (leave a blank page), that will be a signal to an administrator that you want the page deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:42, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

and I just received this message:

The recent edit you made to the page American jewish world service constitutes vandalism, and has been reverted. Please do not continue to make unconstructive edits to pages; use the sandbox for testing. Thank you. Cmichael (talk) 20:44, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I thought you said deleting the page would signal the administrator that it needs to be deleted? It seems like he didn't know that. I'm very confused.Ajws (talk) 21:47, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This may well be a notable organization; I am extremely reluctant to simply delete it. When I stubbed it, somebody else reverted to the spammy version. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:38, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
WikiDan: I did mistakenly flag Ajws' page blanking as vandalism. Most of the time that is exactly what page blanking is. For future reference, it would probably be best to advise people who want to delete their "own" pages to tag them per WP:Speedy rather than blanking them. Page blanking will inevitably draw the attention of vandal patrollers like me, while tagging them will bring in an administrator who actually does have the power to take action. Also, I do agree with Orange that the article may have merit, and I'm glad he didn't simply delete it. Thanks for your efforts to help a newbie. Cmichael (talk) 19:55, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
