CATS in SPACE[edit]

Thanks for the edit! Appreciated! Feel free to add! New here! Wassily K (talk) 14:30, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Wassily K: Glad to help. I know nothing about the band, so I have nothing to add. I'm just WikiGnoming, helping out where I can. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:19, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help Please[edit]

Hi Dan, I'm trying to add a couple of images that I own but they've been deleted, I've raised a query but not sure how to get them back on. sorry to be naive. Mmmm --Wassily K (talk) 19:30, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Wassily K: The images you've tried to upload have been deleted as copyright violations. I did note that the two images you added to the article included a promo shot of the band and the band's logo. In general, neither of those would be appropriate, because neither would have been released under a license compatible with Wikipedia's licensing. You say that you own these images, but the images are clearly the property of the band, or of the photographer who took the publicity photo. If you are a member of the band:
  1. you have a conflict of interest and probably shouldn't be editing the article in the first place;
  2. you need to follow WP:Donating copyrighted materials to allow these images to be used on Wikipedia.

Remember, of course, that if you do release these images to Wikipedia, they will be free for any member of the public to use in any manner they choose, as long as they acknowledge where they got the image. This means that another band could come along and use your logo as their own. Do you really want that? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:36, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a page[edit]

Hi Dan.

I recently created the RealtySouth page and it was tagged for speedy deletion. I just added the help me edit thing. I am new to this so I'm not really sure how all of this works.. Long story short I am trying to create a wiki page for the company so that it will help it get a knowledge graphic on google when it is searched. Along with the social media, company website, it said that wiki was one of the final steps to getting one. So any help on how I can edit this page so it does not get deleted would be very helpful.

Best, Halen. HalenB61 (talk) 14:46, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@HalenB61: Yes, having a Wikipedia page does improve a company's Google search visibility, but Wikipedia does not exist to boost your SEO score. If you write an article that looks like an advertisement for the company, that article will be deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:34, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello speedy deletions[edit]

I saw your post and I wanted to thank you for the words you shared under the speedy tagging column [1]

This same Admin + one other marked two articles i was drafting that related to myself, the only reason they knew this was because my account name and i had just started collecting articles for references. It was extremely discouraging but me finding your post actually got me to consider ur tip on drafting it more thoroughly and not create place markers because the trigger happy admins. Do you have any tips to help a new user ? Im just trying to post information on my nonprofit and the grassroots movement i'm involved in.. lol thank you btw its nice to see people chill out the admins DjNassah (talk) 22:59, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@DjNassah: To be clear, My Pants Metal is not an admin; he is a new user who was having some issues with the new pages patrol task. As for helping you with your article, I don't know what you've written because it has already been deleted. If you're having trouble creating articles because they keep getting deleted, take notice of the reason the articles are being deleted (are they self-promotional? are they about a subject that doesn't merit inclusion?) If those suggestions don't help, try creating the article as a draft (either in the draft space or in your own user sandbox). There you'll have time to develop the article at your leisure and then submit the article through the Articles for Creation process. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 23:18, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikidan61: Thank you sir, I will from now on work in the sandbox area before posting and avoid the misunderstandings! DjNassah (talk) 23:26, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion for removal notice of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMS_Messenger article[edit]

Hi , IMS Messenger is newly published android app. We created this article so people know about new unique feature about this messenger. We will publish app for other platform also. We want to keep all the information in single page.

Here we mention about the messenger only we didnot mention the company name, we dont want to promote/advertise the company name. There have a website link if you want we can remove the same.

For any concern please let me know.

Arloai (talk) 21:42, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Arloai: Wikipedia should not be the platform upon which you inform users of the unique features of your software. By definition, that is promotion, and it is prohibited here at Wikipedia. However, that is not the reason I nominated your article for deletion. That was done because Wikipedia also requires that the subjects of Wikipedia articles meet criteria for inclusion, which generally requires that the subject has been the topic of significant third-party coverage. Since your software does not appear to meet these criteria, I have proposed that your article be deleted. You have seven days to provide sources that would demonstrate that the software does merit inclusion. If you can't provide such sources by the end of seven days, the article will be deleted. If you do not agree with this outcome, you can make your voice heard at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IMS Messenger. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 22:06, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiDan61 I understand your concern. As of now it is not a topic of significant third-party coverage. You can proceed the deletion. Once it became a topic of significant third-party coverage we will come back. Arloai (talk) 22:41, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited AngelHack, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hearst. Speedy deletion for Stephanie Benson[edit]

Hi Dan, You tagged the article Stephanie Benson for deletion. This article is part of the project Wiki Loves Women in Ghana which has named Stephanie Benson as one of the articles to be written on Wikipedia. I am still working on gathering sources for this article though it seems there are not many credible sources. Please do not delete it Jemaackah (talk) 20:57, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jemaackah: I won't delete it; I can't, as I'm not an administrator. Also, another editor has removed the speedy deletion template, so the article is not in immediate danger of deletion. However, since, as you mention, you are having trouble finding credible sources, I would recommend that you create the article in the draft space and recruiting help from the project you mentioned. The fact that someone on that project nominated Benson as an article to be created does not guarantee that she meets the criteria for inclusion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:54, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, Thank you for the note. I will work on getting help for this article.Jemaackah (talk) 21:58, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tennis players[edit]

Professionalism is the basic criterion for WP:ATHLETE; if you want to do differently with tennis players, you can take them to AFD, but if they indeed are a unique case from the WP:ATHLETE perspective, they need to get a deletion discussion, since db-bio is for obvious situations, not unique cases that aren't obviously different from folks who easily qualify for notability. Please re-review your deletion[edit]

Hello Dan, I have not written the entire article yet. Eddie Grey was also a serious artist before he was a composer for all these shows and was written about by important music publications. http://top40-charts.com/news.php?nid=80828 Also High Frequency Tracks is home to platinum and gold album composers and producers. I haven't yet connected their bios to the page. Please be patient. — Preceding unsigned comment added by I am jewsus (talkcontribs) 00:59, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Eddy Grey Continued[edit]

Sorry to keep bothering you, but I do not thinking your assessment is fair. The show Eddie Grey has composed for has 3 Emmy nominations this year among the other things he has done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by I am jewsus (talkcontribs) 01:16, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Who ultimately has the decision to delete? — Preceding unsigned comment added by I am jewsus (talkcontribs) 01:38, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@I am jewsus: Unless the Emmy nominations are for the show's music, they are irrelevant to Eddie Grey's notability. Since you have made your voice heard at [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eddie Grey (Composer)}}, you have found the proper place to express your opinions. The ultimate decision about deletion will be made by an administrator based on their evaluation of the discussion that occurs, and the points that are made for and against deletion as they relate to Wikipedia policies. OncoDNA[edit]

Hi,

I am a new member of the wiki community. To be honnest, I am still in my discovering phase. Could you explain me what should I change to make the description less commercial as you highlighted.

Thank you for your help.

I also tryying in the meantime to add a industry portal as the other companies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Franz101085 (talkcontribs) 13:38, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Franz101085: You would do well not to pepper your article with phrases like "translating science into medicine" and "a reference for precision medicine in oncology". These are not informative terms, but rather promotional language. You would also do well not to pepper your article with references that do not verify the material they reference, but are rather just more press releases and advertorials for the company. The entire article looks like an attempt to boost the company's visibility and prestige, rather than an effort to write a neutral and informative article about the company. Also, you'll need to provide evidence that the company has been the subject of significant coverage in independent media: articles written independently about the company, not based on the company's own press releases, in order to show that the company merits inclusion at Wikipedia. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:50, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks for your advice and time. I do get the point. Just for your information, the cited press released are not the one from the company, but rather serious belgian media, actually the mains one in belgian. Should we have to wait to get international press release to appear on wikipedia? So only big ones deserve it?! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Franz101085 (talkcontribs) 15:42, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Franz101085: Which citation in particular are you referring to when you mention "the main media in Belgium"? Do you mean this article in La Libre, or this article in La Nouvelle Gazette. Both article appear, on their face, to be significant coverage in independent media, but upon close reading, they both appear to be advertorials, articles published in the media with the participation of the subject and for the purpose of promoting the subject. (It has become an unfortunate reality of modern journalism that newspaper articles are often more advertising than journalism.) WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:48, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

La Libre Belgique, first french speaking newspaper https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_newspapers_in_Belgium RTBFis one of the major group of media in belgium and EY is one of the big four audit firms, if this is not enough serious and independant... As i said before I do agree with some comments, and made the change. Please let me know what you would like more to be framed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Franz101085 (talkcontribs) 16:13, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Franz101085: Part of the problem is that you've used a link the Ernst & Young's "Promising Entrepreneur" award (here) to cite the fact that OncoDNA focuses on "precision medicine in oncology", but the EY page mentions nothing about "precision medicine in oncology. That type of sloppy referencing often leads to the impression that the author is simply dropping references into their article to make it look more impressive. I'm willing to delete the speedy deletion tag for now, but please be careful that your references actually verify the facts that they are supposed to verify, and don't just serve to make the page look better. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:48, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am starting to understand how to write on wikipedia. Thanks for the input. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Franz101085 (talkcontribs) 17:24, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Franz101085: Glad I could help. Remember, we're writing an encyclopedia here. Think of your typical encyclopedia article -- high on facts, low on opinions. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:32, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My article is subjected for speedy deletion.[edit]

Wiki Page Name:CSI Church Kaliakkavilai Link to wiki page:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CSI_Church_Kaliakkavilai

Sir,

This article is subjected for speedy deletion.I dont know why.I have given all the info to that page. Please help me with this article to cancel the deletion. Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Blesslinjv (talkcontribs)
@Blesslinjv: Actually, it's not up for speedy deletion, it is the subject of a deletion discussion (here), which is a slower and more deliberate process. The reason it is being discussed is that the article gives no indication that this church is in any way notable and thereby meriting inclusion at Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a list of everything; topics are only included if it can be demonstrated that they have been the subject of significant coverage in independent media. Your church does not appear to meet these criteria. However, you are free to voice your opinion: just go to the discussion page and make your voice heard there. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:13, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Church which I have mentioned in my article"CSI Church Kaliakkavilai" actually exists[edit]

sir ,

The Church which I have written in the article actually exists. I have given the location of the map of CSI Church Kaliakkavilai below. Location of CSI Church Kaliakkavilai on the map: link. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blesslinjv (talkcontribs)

@Blesslinjv: I have no doubt that it actually exists. Mere existence is not the criterion for inclusion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:34, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

THe Landi fanily.[edit]

Just a thought. The Italian Wiki has a listing of this in Italian. It has solid reference to Italian Encyclopedias and No One disputes its content it has been there for many years. A straight out translation to English would clear this up. I have had many volumes translated from Latin, German and Italian to English. I have 264 pages of reference in my book of 1121 pages. I dont have time to be bothered with this, but you might as well use the Italian Wiki version so the article is unimpeachable. The indisputable reference for this besides Cardinal Antonio Samore (lo Stato Landi 1983) is "The Fund Landi Scrolls", by Rubrichelli, 860AD to 1680, Doria Pamphlij Landi Library. Derived directly from the official records of Parma. Every legal transaction for almost 600 years. The name is LANDO (singular) LANDI (plural) Landone(i) Possesive. Every Landi in the official record back to 646AD is de Lando except for Count Landone Landi 650AD Umbria Todi.(also baptised de Lando) All Landi's were baptised de Landi untill the 17th century. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.92.237.54 (talk) 02:38, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple articles[edit]

Hi, I recently wrote an article on the topic "DOPIPE" and found that I had to change the heading to "DOPIPE Parallelization". I was unable to edit the title hence I decided to make a new page by this name. Now I am not seeing the later page, instead I am getting redirected to the previous one. Please suggest me as to how can I rename the page. Or, if this not possible then how do I remove the earlier page and replace with the new one.

Thanks Sarvagya — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ssarvag (talkcontribs) 23:35, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ssarvag: As you are the only author of note on DOPIPE Parallelization, you could simply blank the page and replace the contents with {{db-author}}. This will cause the page to be deleted. Once it is, you can then move the DOPIPE page. If you are not able to move the page, contact me again and I can do it for you. It is never a good move to simply copy the content of a page to a new title. (See WP:Copying within Wikipedia.) WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 02:15, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rangpur Cantonment Public College is not the official name of that college. It has both school section & college section. You can visit the website of that college for more information. I redirect this page to Cantonment Public School And College, Rangpur. Jihan (talk) 05:31, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Rifat Hasan Jihan: I'll concur that the name of the school is incorrect, but the way to fix the problem is to move the existing page, not to create a new page. (See Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.) I'm going to tag your new article for deletion so that we can make way to move the older, more established article. Guild of Copy Editors September 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the September 2016 GOCE newsletter.

>>> Sign up for the September Drive, already in progress! <<<

July Drive: The July drive was a roaring success. We set out to remove April, May, and June 2015 from our backlog (our 149 oldest articles), and by 23 July, we were done with those months. We added July 2015 (66 articles) and copy-edited 37 of those. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from June 2016. Well done! Overall, we recorded copy edits to 240 articles by 20 editors, reducing our total backlog to 13 months and 1,656 articles, the second-lowest month-end total ever.

August Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 21 through 27 August; the theme was sports-related articles in honor of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Of the eight editors who signed up, five editors removed 11 articles from the backlog. A quiet blitz – everyone must be on vacation. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdlsk.

American CyberSystems Page[edit]

I received your message regarding the American CyberSystems page. Yes, I was asked by my director to create a company description page. The description used is very generic. It appears to be no different than the company page I found on ebay. It gives an overview, history, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lberglie (talkcontribs) 17:03, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Lberglie: Your article on American CyberSystems includes language such as:
... is a premier provider of ...
Our operating brands have provided targeted services and solutions for more than 50 years.
... ACS Group fine-tuned its array of solutions offerings ...
These are promotional phrases, not neutral, facts-only statements. Comparing your page to the page about eBay, you should find that the eBay page does not include any such promotional language. It also does not appear that your company is particularly notable; there is no evidence that your company has been the subject of the type of independent coverage required for inclusion. If your article is deleted (as I suspect it will be), you should indicate to your director that Wikipedia frowns on companies creating articles about themselves. Wikipedia is not a business directory, but rather an encyclopedia. If your boss feels that the company merits inclusion, you or your director should request that an article be created (see WP:RFA) and let a disconnected third party do the work of creating a neutral article about your company (if one can be created from available third party sources). Lucie Arnaz edit removal of a section[edit]

The reason that I removed the section regarding an auction of my mothers personal items was it said I "claimed" it belonged to me. The items in question were my mother's personal possessions and were bequeathed to me upon her death. It was a tabloid sounding paragraph with many non facts and I believe it has no place in what one hopes to find in Wikipedia. If you have any questions as to my authentic identity, please let me know what I need to do to convince you of who I am. Thanks, Lucie Arnaz — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lucie Arnaz (talkcontribs) 21:48, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Lucie Arnaz: I'm not a Wikipedia administrator, so I'm not the one you'll need to convince. I placed the note on your talk page to make you aware of the policy so that, if an administrator does decide to block you or question you, you'll understand why. As to your edits, I agree that the incident in question (regarding the auction of personal items) seems minor, but removing sourced information from your own biography just because you don't like it is considered quite bad form. Again, I recommend that you make a request on the talk page regarding such edits. In this case, I happen to agree with you, and would gladly remove the paragraph for you. WikiDan61 i am advertising my school so i would be glad if you restore my page and wont delete it again

@Zhb1999: Yes, I know you're advertising your school. But that violates Wikipedia policy. Wikipedia is not to be used to advertise things, even schools. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:57, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Zhb1999: Those other article are not the same as yours. Your article is written in a manner so as to entice people to consider sending their children to your school, whereas those other article are written in a manner to inform people about the schools. @Zhb1999: No, I won't do that. You can copy the page text now for your own keeping, or if the page has already been deleted, you can apply to any of the administrators listed here to receive a copy of your text. But the text as it stands does not meet Wikipedia guidelines, and cannot be allowed to remain. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:57, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WikiDan61 sir what about the other pages they are allowed to do it and i am not ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zhb1999 (talkcontribs) 21:03, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Zhb1999: As I mentioned above, the other pages you indicated (and I can only guess which specific pages you meant as you did not link to specific pages) are written about the school by third-party authors in a neutral, non-promotional tone. Your article is written by you, who clearly have a conflict of interest in the matter, in a very promotional tone that reads like an advertisement. The page would have to be thrown away and started from scratch to create a valid, neutral article about the school. If you read the criterion for deletion under which the page is nominated, this would be clear to you. You have even claimed, on this page and on Talk:Gulf international school, that your express intent is to advertise your school. Wikipedia doesn't allow that. @Sapcan: The article you've written at Philanthropy Engineering does not make it at all clear that the Sphere Project is being held up as an example of good Philanthropy Engineering practice, nor does it mention P3 standards at all. If the Sphere Project is to be touted as a good example of this practice, we'll need a reliable independent source to verify that. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:40, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I feel very sorry if any boday underestimate the value of Sphere project, my intention in this article is to gather thoughts and research of Philanthropy Engineering, please bare with me and give me a chance to develop my work!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sapcan (talkcontribs) 16:46, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Sapcan: I see that the Sphere Project has its own Wikipedia page, so clearly it's a reputable thing. As to your goals for the Philanthropy Engineering page, I see that there might be value in it, but I don't think it's ready for publication yet. Would you consider developing it as a draft article until you have finished fleshing it out? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:52, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

yes, but I donot want to loose the page until I finish my article..thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sapcan (talkcontribs) 17:02, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Sapcan: If I move the page to Draft:Philanthropy Engineering, it won't be lost, and it will be less likely to face a deletion discussion. You'll have plenty of time to finish it and then submit it through the articles for creation process when you're done developing it. Requesting not to delete privately held org pages.[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avani_Technology_Solutions_Inc these are not local press coverage. I would like to share with you the fact that as a writer consultant, I once approached the founder to go for paid marketing to build a strong influence, but that turned out bitter. What I learn from there is he is a person of ethics and today one of my contacts who I guess probably have created this article called to discuss the same thing and hence I am here to argue the fact that this company has very less coverage but they all are authentic. I mean for a company making $17 million in 5 years in profit, paying media is no big deal. Jacintha and foks in chat said, they dont trust coverage by Indian media as they accept "payola" something I learnt today.. But so is the entire presidential election of US where Hillary and Trump are paying media to establish the credibility of their candidature. This is my argument about something I know and I can vouch for the company for ethically building its reputation. If the links provided arent enough, check http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Hyderabad/new-app-for-womens-security/article5789244.ece which again you may say that it appears like a press release. Also, information from a privately held company, information is never public. I understand that you guys maintain strict editing policies to ensure authenticity but trust me neither Avani nor Zoho at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoho_Corporation should be deleted. This is how privately held companies work. I hope you'll consider. Technically, Wiki does not help in lead generation and never a source of reliable information as their are too many cooks cooking articles, when I was in University in 2009, I was asked to abstain from referring to wiki. Anyway, I respect the democracy that Wiki operates on, and with respect to that, I would request not to delete but do further due diligence to validate my request and act upon the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thomaseater (talkcontribs) 07:57, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Thomaseater: I'm only getting a vague sense of your meaning here. I'm guessing that English is not your first language; your writing doesn't make a whole lot of sense. However, the gist of your note is that Avani Technology Solutions Inc should not be deleted. As there is an active discussion of this matter at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Avani Technology Solutions Inc, I suggest that would be a better venue for your arguments. The deletion of the page will be a decision reached by the community, not by me alone. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:26, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The gist of my note is you have to look into the structure of how privately held organizations work and once you learn about it then be little considerate. Yes, only Americans speak the best! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thomaseater (talkcontribs) 11:31, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Thomaseater: It is irrelevant how privately held organizations work. The question of concern is whether Avani Technology Solutions Inc is a notable company, and I see no evidence that it is. A company is notable if it has been the subject of multiple instances of significant independent coverage, and I do not see any evidence of such coverage for Avani. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:34, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please check the additional links provided in the article by the gov of US? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thomaseater (talkcontribs) 12:03, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Thomaseater: I have nominate the page for deletion, and nothing you've added has changed my mind. Make your arguments at the AFD page, not here. 12:23, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

EB1911 relevance for Huntington, NY wikipedia page[edit]

I personally think that the information "Pop. (1905, state census) 10,236; (1910) 12,004" is of some historical interest. I have not evaluated the (very brief) EB1911 entry in the context of the wikipedia article.

About article "Complex_agent_representations_for_crowd_simulations"[edit]

Hi,

Thank you for contributing to page of Complex_agent_representations_for_crowd_simulations.

We do are students from the same class and create the page as part of the homework requirement. Because our professor didn't mention anything like wiki school projects, so we just made a new page and edited it. Some of the content do have problems, and I will email professor about the topic you mentioned.

Proposed Deletion of Andrew Pearson[edit]

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the proposal! I'll definitely read through the guidelines, but I disagree that its not referenced. He's an influential academy player in a historic football club (Farnborough FC), with first team experience (e.g. against Fleet Town this week). I'll check the details and add sources where applicable. Happy to have this page in draft for now until it conforms!

Warm regards, Simon — Preceding unsigned comment added by Simonjpearson (talkcontribs) 16:36, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Simonjpearson: You may disagree that there are references available, but since no references are actually cited on the page, the page is presently in violation of Wikipedia policy. Also, per Wikipedia's notability guidelines for footballers, Pearson does not meet the current criteria for inclusion, as he has not played at a fully professional level. (In the England, the fully professional leagues are considered to be Premier League, Football League Championship, Football League One, Football League Two. Since Farnborough play in the Isthmian League Premier Division (with a demotion to Southern League Division One Central for the coming year), they don't qualify as one of the "fully professional leagues" as defined at Wikipedia. You'll have a hard time getting this article to remain, I fear. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:57, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bharat Aggarwal[edit]

This is a living person's biography, and the contents in the page are biased and one sided, derogatory and defamatory, especially because it is one sided. Why don't you put all the articles published in there instead of just retracted article. The reason for retraction given is not appropriate either. Also why only one book is mentioned there, where as there are approximately 15 books are edited by Dr. Aggarwal. All of them are in public domain, Amazon etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Universaljustice (talkcontribs) 21:02, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Jin Shin Jyutsu[edit]

HI Dan. Thanks for the message. The format is very overwhelming and confusing to me. So I'm not sure if I saw everything. I can totally change the username no problem. As far as the content, I can tweek it, but it is the information as I know it. I will read the articles you sent, but don't have the time to do that at this moment. If the page is deleted, will it be able to be recreated? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jin Shin Institute (talkcontribs) 19:36, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jin Shin Institute: If the page is deleted, you can ask any of the administrators listed here to email you a copy of the text (although that hardly seems necessary as you already have the text available to you at your own site). Once your username issue is resolved, you can create a new article about Jin Shin Jyutsu, but you'll have to craft the article in language that does not closely paraphrase the language at your website, and that does not promote the practice, but rather just describes it in neutral language. You'll also need to show evidence, by citing reliable sources independent of your own institute, that Jin Shin Jyutsu is a notable form of alternative healing. You'd need to demonstrate that the practice has been written about by people other than those involved in the practice. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:47, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cold Detonation Physics[edit]

Hi Dan,

I am still figuring out how to talk to everyone - I have a talk page for EnviroDaren, I have a talk page for Cold Detonation Physics and there's a talk page for the proposal to delete Cold Detonation Physics. I am not sure if I am reaching the correct people and where I should be focussing my attention. Can you please help with that?

Regardless - you said that the basis for deleting my page is the lack of a recognized peer-review. I allege that the patenting process, which has lead to unanimous granting of the patent in many countries, adequately satisfies this concern because the patenting process is way more severe a peer review than what would come from the publishing of an article in a technical journal. Patents have been granted - I urge you to consider that this should stand on its own and advocate on my behalf to the point of potentially augmenting your eligiblity criteria to include "patents granted".

On the note of other scientists testing or working with my technology... well, because it is patented they are legally not allowed to so they cannot. Also, we're talking about explosives and there are many legislatively complicated barriers for an independent team to even carry out such tests even with my blessings. If I invent a new type of nuclear bomb, a third party cannot easily go about testing it and to assume they should is an inaccurate assessment of what a third party with those capabilities would be willing to do.

I respect that your policies for an independent peer review is based on the need to prevent bs from being posted on Wikipedia. I also respect that viewing the endorsement of a third party that publishes an article that endorses the work is an acceptable means. However, I suspect that very few people have actually received patents for inventions whose workings they wish to post on Wikipedia. I have discovered something new, proven it, and the peer review of the patenting process confirms this - I propose that Wikipedia consider allowing the page to stand on that merit. If that is ok, I can proceed with fleshing out the other items - like categories and links etc... I am attempting to add value to your cause.

Let me know your thoughts on that, and feel welcome to call me at 905-333-6287 to discuss this if you prefer.

Thanks, and best regards - Daren EnviroDaren (talk) 22:03, 19 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@EnviroDaren: Actually, in the US at least, the patent review process is significantly less stringent than the peer review that a journal would impose on your work. Many patents have been granted on technologies that are completely unworkable. (I would point you to the article on VMSK, a signal modulation technique that received several patents but which has been demonstrated to be largely hogwash.) I direct you to WP:PATENT, Wikipedia's policy on the nature of patents as reliable sources. As for the claim that other scientists cannot test or verify your work because it is patented, that is incorrect. They may not manufacture for sale any technology based on your patents, but that does not mean that they are barred from reproducing your experimental results.
I respect your right not to submit your work for proper scholarly review -- that is entirely your choice. But it is the policy of Wikipedia not to accept articles of a technical or scientific nature that are not based on solid, peer-reviewed sources. Sorry.
Finally, to answer the first question you posed: the place to discuss matters related to the deletion or retention of Cold Detonation Physics is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cold Detonation Physics. If you wish to discuss matters related to improving the article (should it pass the deletion discussion and be retained), the place for that discussion is at Talk:Cold Detonation Physics. Finally, User talk:EnviroDaren is your own personal talk page, where you and other users can interact regarding general Wikipedia editing issues, including notifications of discussions occurring elsewhere. @BQUB16-Gjimenez: I empathize with your situation, but just because you have been given an assignment to work on an article at Wikipedia, that does not preclude other editors from also being involved. (Please see WP:OWN.) Where improvements can be made, I will make them. (Fear not, I know nothing of biochemistry, so I won't change your facts. Just your grammar and citation style!) As for copyright issues, I did not make that change, but I fully support it. Wikipedia cannot allow material that violates another person's or journal's copyright to remain. That is a violation of Wikipedia policy. You are free to rewrite the article using your own words, but you may not copy the text or images from a journal article. I have been in contact with your professor on ca.wiki and have encouraged him to contact Diannaa regarding this issue. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:46, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jayseajay: If there has been no press, we have no way to verify that what you are saying is true. There is no IMDb entry on the film, nor is it listed at any of the actor's IMDb pages. And if the production company has been shy of press, they may well not appreciate the creation of a Wikipedia page prior to their own announcements. In any case, since you appear sincere in making your case that this is an actual film, I'm going to assume good faith and change from a speedy deletion to a proposed deletion. New Page Review needs your help[edit]

Hi WikiDan61,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

Sorry for Creation of New Pages[edit]

WikiDan61 - Sorry for the creation of new pages. I will stop the process now and you can delete any or all the pages if none seemed to fit the guidelines. I just had a lot of free time and I thought this would be good to put on here. Runxcpr — Preceding unsigned comment added by Runxcpr (talkcontribs) 16:04, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Runxcpr: The articles have been nominated for deletion. If you agree that they do not merit inclusion, then you may add your comment to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PIAA District 4. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:12, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Hello, WikiDan61. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review - newsletter[edit]

Hello WikiDan61,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 816 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

Editing Timothy Schmalz[edit]

Hi, thank you for cleaning up the Timothy Schmalz page! I was wondering about adding photos. At this point it says I'm not allowed. I'm also not getting how to properly cite my sources (date retrieved etc.). If you're free to help that would be great. --Emily1226 (talk) 17:19, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Emily1226: A user has to gain a certain level of experience in order to upload images. I don't know what that level is, but apparently you have not yet reached it. Keep editing successfully, and you'll get there soon enough. When you do, only upload images you yourself have taken. Anything else will run afoul of copyright restrictions. Also, since you are writing about Schmalz, I presume you intend to upload images of his works. This is valid on the English language Wikipedia under the rules of fair use, but you'll have to follow the fair use rules. Most specifically, make sure the image is small enough that it could not possibly be used commercially. I don't know if there is a guideline, but the rule of thumb I use is that, generally, a fair use image should remain under 300 pixels in its smaller dimension. As for the citations, there are a list of citation templates that you can use. If you are citing a website, you'll want to use {{cite web}}, and for a newspaper article (even one you find online), use {{cite news}}. (If you click on those template name links, you'll be taken to the documentation page for the templates involved.) Good luck! WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:33, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the quick reply. Hopefully I can start uploading photos shortly! --Emily1226 (talk) 18:00, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WikiDan61

I am trying to edit my wikipedia page to update credits for tv radio etc, remove inaccuracies and make it look nicer with tables - is this okay? I appreciate that this is not a forum for self-promotion, rather I seek accuracy!

Best wishes

Dan Antopolski — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danantopolski (talkcontribs) 14:12, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Danantopolski: As mentioned at WP:AUTO, rather than editing your own page, you should make requests at the talk page and let uninvolved third parties address the issues. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:37, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your scruples, I really do. I'm new to editing wikipedia and I've just set up an ID. I've checked the editing histories of a few of my peers and betters and they all edit the pages about themselves so I'd feel a bit put out if someone took issue with me curating the layout etc as this practice is standard. Again, all I'm after is accuracy - and to network the information that has already long been up on the page to provide context. I come in honesty! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danantopolski (talkcontribs) 14:49, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Danantopolski: Pages are curated as the opportunity arises, so if you "peers and betters" have edited pages about themselves, they only got away with it because no one happened to notice. That doesn't make it correct in their case, or in yours. So far, the changes you've made are mostly harmless (although claiming the role of "Jesus" in The DaVinci Code is unsourced and unsupported by that movie's IMDb page, so that fact has been removed), but you should probably refrain from further updates. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:10, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

With sincere respect to your commitment to the integrity of this site, all I am doing is going through the page formatting the appearance so it's pleasant to look at and sorting out links and citations - contextualising and enriching it as a factual resource - it's not like I'm making it up. The IMDB page is at fault regarding the brief Jesus role in The Da Vinci Code which was a brief, non speaking role which definitely took place - it's in the movie. Again, appreciate your scruples but the presumption underlying your interpretation of my intentions might be seen as erring on the cynical. Best wishes Dan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danantopolski (talkcontribs) 15:23, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Danantopolski: If the "brief, non-speaking role" cannot be verified (i.e. if you are not credited in the film, and there is no reliable source for your appearance in the film), then Wikipedia guidelines indicate that the fact should not be included. And pardon me for making cynical assumptions, but that is exactly the reason that Wikipedia discourages people from editing their own biographies: to avoid the appearance of impropriety or self-promotion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:27, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
(Eavesdropping) I've alerted the subject to the concerns, opened a thread at the BLP noticeboard and broached the subject at the article's talk page. Most of the performance listings are unsourced and not notable. I've refrained thus far from clear-cutting, but that sees to be inevitable. 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 15:32, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Guys! I am dismayed at the escalating resistance to my largely cosmetic edits. I am trying to improve, not reduce, my page's accuracy and contextuality as the person best informed about my own work. For example in the edit summary below one of you has misspelt my name. As I go through over the next few days I will add links and citations to the existing information on the page, reducing not increasing any perception of a promotional tone. I am trying not to get offended at having my two decade career referred to as a Vanity page! If the tables look too 'grand' I can take it back to text - I am trying to do what is standard. I appreciate your constructive engagement - Dan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danantopolski (talkcontribs) 15:56, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Updates for Our Page[edit]

Hi Dan! I'm a curator for the Philip C. Curtis Foundation and trying to update his page. I made what I thought was minor changes (adding another info paragraph and his bio and exhibition chronology) however when I came back to it today NONE of the info I updated is there. What do I need to do to update his info? Thanks, Karen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Karengutfreund (talkcontribs) 06:45, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Karengutfreund: The changes you made were not minor; you added over 20K of text to the page. Extensive lists of every possible event in Curtis' life, or of every time he was ever mentioned in any book are not particularly useful, especially when there is no source listed to verify such information. A list of 10 or 15 of his most significant exhibitions might be useful, and a list of books that he wrote himself or that were written exclusively about him, but not the extensive material you listed. Since you have declared that you are the curator of his foundation, you have a conflict of interest regarding this topic. Rather than editing the article itself, I recommend you suggest updates at the article's talk page. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:08, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful!

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating!

September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words).

October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page.

Housekeeping note: we do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your Watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

God is not Corporeal[edit]

Hi WikiDan61,

I am writing to you regarding the "God is not Corporeal" section I added.

I apologize for not writing to you sooner but I just joined up with Wikipedia and I am in the learning process of how to use everything. On top of that, I do not have internet access at home, only at my office (I own the company so it is okay).

I still do not know many basic things with Wikipedia which is a large part of the reason my sources are not the greatest.

I wanted to communicate to you regarding "Duties of the Heart", (Chavos Havalavos) by Bahya ibn Paquda. There are many books on Judaism that are unknown to people who are not and have never been religious Jews and yet they are universally accepted and known to the entire religious Jewish community. As a religious Jews, I can tell you for anything to be universally accepted by our religious community is probably a bigger miracle than Chanuka and the splitting of the sea ;-). On that note, "Chavos Havalavos" is universally accepted by all sects of religious Jews and can be found in every Jewish bookstore in the world, probably every Yeshiva in the world, almost all synagogues in the world that have any kind of library and is probably found in the majority of homes of religious Jews. Rabbis from all different sects (Ashkenazi, Sefardi, Chassidim, Yekky, Modern Orthodox, etc) regularly give classes on this book.

Likewise, I wanted to reference of other universally accepted books in the religious Jewish community but I could not find them online in English, only in Hebrew. I brought the English translation to work today so that I could add those references into the article but I am afraid of putting too many references.

Here are all the references I want add/update in the "God in not Corporeal" section:

Exodus 25:20 "... for man shall not see Me and live."

Deuteronomy 4:12 "The Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of the words, but saw no image, just a voice." (In Judaism, the created world is equivalent to the spoken voice of G-d. We can hear and experience G-d's voice and His actions in this world, but we cannot experience Him Himself. I am not trying to get you to believe this, just trying to demonstrate that this is a core belief of Judaism and give some valid sources.)

Da'at Tevunot (The Knowing Heart as Published in Hebrew/English by The Torah Classics Library Copyright 1982,2008) by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Lazzatto 1707-1746 (there are no chapters in this book but there are paragraphs):

Page 35 (46th paragraph): "He is entirely independent of them [His Creation]."
Page 63 (76th paragraph): "What is incumbent upon us to believe in this respect is that the existence of the Blessed One is unquestionably self-evident, but His essence cannot be conceptualized by us in the least."
Page 63 (77th paragraph): "Anything that the human intellect can conceive of and envisage is certainly not of the essence of the Blessed One, for He is elevated and exalted above all thoughts and conception, and possesses not a single of the properties of His creations, whether great or small."
Page 65 (79th paragraph): "Anything that any creature in the world may conceive of Him will be through His acts alone and nothing else."

Sefer haHinnuch (The Book of Mitzvah Education) by Rabbi Aaron haLevi of Barcelona (Spanish Talmudist of the end of the thirteenth century) Copyright 1984,1992 Feldheim Publishers - Mitzvah 25 (pg 143): "...He is immanent, wholly perfect, without any body or physical power of a body: for physical bodies are ultimately subject to deficiencies and shortcomings, while He (be He blessed) is not subject to any kind of deficiency or shortcoming whatsoever, as we stated."

Chavos HaLavavos (Duties of the Heart) by R. Bachya Ben Joseph ibn Paquda (lived during the first half of the eleventh century - before Rambam) Copyright 1996 Feldheim Publishers (pg 139 - The Unity of God - Chapter 10): "...it is impossible to perceive the Creator through the senses".

I want to update the sources on the "God is not Corporeal" section with the above. What is your opinion? Can I have too many sources? Can I manually type in the above sources without giving an online link? I should be able to do that (hopefully that is a silly question).

Thanks for your direction and input. This is my first time contribution to a Wikipedia article and because of hardworking and caring people like yourself, I am learning a great deal and enjoying it immensely. I am very impressed with the level of challenge that one receives when posting to Wikipedia. That is the way it should be and it is obviously very needed.

Have a wonderful day!

Brian Roscher :-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by GoodJBoy (talkcontribs) 14:53, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@GoodJBoy: I believe you have created sufficient references for your point in the article, but I still maintain that citing Chovot HaLevavot as a publication of "central tenets of Judaism" is not supported by any sources. This work may well be revered by all Jews, or only some Jews. Judaism, as you know probably better than I, encompasses a broad spectrum of beliefs, from the modern Reform Judaism to the orthodox Hasidim and Haredim. What a Hasidic Jew would consider a "central tenet", a Reformed Jew might consider an old-fashioned and outdated belief. I think we can only list as "central tenets" of Judaism as a whole those tenets that ALL Jews would agree on. There is no evidence provided at the article on the Chovot HaLevavot that it holds such a central place for all Jews. If you would like to cite this as a source of central tenets, you'll have to provide evidence that it holds such a position first. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:06, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Shortage of editors?[edit]

I spent Thursday training newbies at the BBC 100 women editathon. After I d trained someone in their sandbox they copied the revised work to main. Unfortunately they failed to copy the references (system error) but it did copy the call outs. They had a go at finessing the work and then four minutes later you deleted all of their work. I've just been back to look at what they did. The record shows this. I can see that you might have been in a hurry but their edit summary clearly showed that they were a newbie. I'm disappointed Victuallers (talk) 13:11, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Victuallers: Sorry if I stepped on toes. However, the work is still there, in the edit history. If you and your protégée had wished, you could have restored the work with the proper referencing. If you are going to undertake to train new editors, you would do well to train them to preview their changes before committing them, to make sure the changes incorporate everything they desire. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:40, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"If you are going to undertake to train new editors..."[edit]

@WikiDan61:Oh its her fault, or mine. So being trained for an hour and saying "new editor please be kind" gets your work deleted in four minutes! "If you are going to undertake to train new editors" .... Oh I am sorry. We need to check EVERYTHING otherwise these newbies just deserve what they get. You made a massive mistake! That person is going to tell all their mates what happens if you give up an afternoon to help Wikipedia. Victuallers (talk) 14:54, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Emily Spratling[edit]

Would the page be kept if I took the account about the author's life and rewrote it in a more objective style? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Margaret Wigley (talkcontribs) 03:35, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Margaret Wigley: You can't write the article based on your own personal knowledge. Wikipedia relies on reliable sources so that the facts in an article can be verified. If Spratling has been the subject of significant coverage in sources that are independent of her (i.e. not published by her or her publishers or her publicity people) then there might be a basis for an article. If you choose to recreate the article (it has already been deleted), you should do so in the draft space (at Draft:Emily Spratling), and then submit it via the AFC process. Please know that people who are closely related to a topic are understood to have a conflict of interest regarding that subject, so any article you write about your grandmother is likely to be subject to extra scrutiny. thanks for advice[edit]

Hi,

@WikiDan61:

Thanks for your recent advice on my article (draft). I appreciate it!

You have been looking at my draft "biography". I am user JDKJDKJDK

Although it is autobiography (and I note this is strongly discouraged), I think my achievements merit an article, and academics - I believe - often end up writing their own article unless they achieve public notoriety e.g. by being on the television. In defense of my meriting it, I cite these claims (with references): I am listed as 42nd most cited Computer Science in the UK [1], and in the top half of Jen Palsberg's list of highly cited computer scientists in the world: [2] (the latter needs updating to move me up further, which I have requested).

I have not done submitted my biography before, because I didn't think I merited it at that stage, but now have two Chairs (professorships), and I recently gave a NIPS invited talk, which led to invitations to conferences around the world, more than a hundred downloads, and so on.

So, I appreciate your comments and advice, but hope you will consider the article fit, once I have edited properly?

Please would you let me know where the draft now is? I can't seem to find it any more. I promise I will leave it wherever you put it until it is completed.

@JDKJDKJDK: Your draft is presently located at User:JDKJDKJDK/draft-article. You'll need to provide evidence of significant coverage of your career in independent sources. (A profile in a professional publication arising from your achievements would suffice.) WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:25, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adding references (or sources) right now![edit]

Dear WikiDan61

Further to my last post to you: I am adding references for every statement made in the biography, save for ones about my spiritual beliefs, the birth years of my children, and the one about my non-professional pursuits (Although for this latter I may refer to the Romiley Golf club magazine, the Northwest Counties Squash league, if needs be?).

Many thanks for your advice!

An article I was editing initially in my sandbox, and then in draft-article, has been moved or deleted.

I am user JDKJDKJDK. I have written to the editor who moved the page, but I can no longer see it. I would like it put back in my sandbox, please. I do not have a copy.

@JDKJDKJDK: You linked to the article above at User:JDKJDKJDK/draft-article, so you clearly know where it is presently located. What appears to be the problem? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:26, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
