Pahlavi State of Iran

This is straight internal copyvio from Pahlavi Dynasty by an editor you've encountered, Artin Mehraban (talk · contribs), who despite several warning still hasn't a clue about our copyright policy. His comments at Talk:Kashtariti make it clear that he thinks temporary blatant copyright violation (the article was lifted from a website) is ok, and that slowly changing words can avoid a copyright violation (see his latest edits at Pahlavi State of Iran. He's been adding images that he thinks are flags or symbols[1][2][3] and that last link also changed the color of Cyrus the Great's standard. It appears to me that there's a serious competence issue here. Do you think it's worth taking to ANI? Thanks. Doug Weller (talk) 06:56, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

@Doug Weller: It needs to be addressed somewhere, and I think WP:ANI is probably the proper place. This user appears to be here solely to push their own agenda about the nature of the history of Iran, among other issues. And they clearly have no regard for copyright concerns. @Artin Mehraban: I have helped you in the past, but in the present case, I think the action that best helps Wikipedia is to delete your duplicate article. Cut and paste moves are disallowed in Wikipedia because the article history of the original article contains the attribution history of every editor who created and edited the article. By copying the text verbatim to a new article, without attribution to the original article, you violate Wikipedia's CC-by-SA license. Also, by creating your own article on a topic that already existe, you create a content fork which is discouraged. @Jonathan Clive: I'm sorry your class assignment ended up getting deleted. As Deb pointed out on your user talk page, you can create articles in your own sandbox, or you can create a draft article at Draft:Brendan McNamee. However, you should speak to your instructor about you choice of subject, and review the relevant criteria for inclusion: WP:BIO and WP:GNG. Not everyone gets to be included at Wikipedia, and McNamee, a person who has self-published a single novel on Amazon, doesn't appear to meet the criteria. Hello WikiDan61. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1), or content (CSD A3), moments after they are created. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Verification must be available in the form of publicly available documents that can be examined by interested third parties. Perhaps in your mind the niece and nephew of Mysterious Dave Mather are not "valid sources" - but I don't think any serious historian would agree with that assessment. After years of searching,I had the good fortune of finally tracking down Lydia Fredericka Mather and David Allen Mather and interviewing them during the summer of 1986. @Jack DeMattos: I think a serious historian would view the interviews with direct family members as "primary sources" and would corroborate the family lore with other sources, and then would submit such serious historical research for peer review. And then we at Wikipedia could count on the material that was published as a result of said historian's research, corroboration and peer review as a reliable source. But a direct interview with family members, relating family lore? No. Perhaps this doesn't happen in your family, but in my family the tales told about grandfathers and uncles tend to get larger and less realistic with each telling. @A*FITNESS: If someone at Wikipedia undertakes to write an article about you based on independent sources that indicate that you are notable, then you would be discouraged from editing that article directly. Instead, you would be encouraged to make comments at that article's talk page regarding any changes you would like to see. As it stands, the article that exists now will likely be speedily deleted by an administrator based on the fact that it is blatantly promotional and makes no claims of notability, so there is no point in making talk page requests for changes in the current article, except to contest the speedy deletion, and provide evidence that the subject (you) is notable. Red Eye Louie's Vodquila

I agree they have fixed the problems with the article, and now I'm inclined to keep. But they keep removing tags. For example, they removed the COI tag, even though the article was created by their co-founder, and she admits she hired someone to work on it after I told her she shouldn't be. They also removed the pointer to the AfD, even though it hasn't been resolved. Since the article will probably stand, is this forgivable? The page was created as part of a conference running today on the subject of Iconophobia precisely because it is a distinct topic within Art History. As part of the conference leading academics in the field are being invited to help contribute to this page and improve the content.

While many micronations have articles at Wikipedia, that is because they have been the subject of independent coverage and have thus established notability. Hi WikiDan. Re your comment here, I'd just go ahead and move the page back. The new title is completely inappropriate. The editor in question has decided to "take the summer off" rather than answering you. I first encountered him yesterday and found a string of inappropriate page moves and redirects, inappropriate addition and removal of speedy deletion and PROD tags, inappropriate tag-bombing of articles etc. He had less than 100 edits to article space and was in way over his head. Josh Reiner

I think you made the right call on the userpage for Josh Reiner. It stated he was a minor, included some personal information such as birthday, height, and approximate location -- and also disclosed the full legal name of their sibling. Whether an individual discloses information about themselves (outside of things like phone number, address, etc.) is a grey area in terms of re-course, but once the sibling's full name was used, I deleted it. Hello! I'm sorry to say that I declined your good-faith request for protection of the talk page of this article. You are understandably frustrated by the way that requested merge discussion is going. You say you have started an SPI, and that is the way to deal with socks, but we can't pre-emptively protect the page; the new editors are not posting in a disruptive manner. But here is my broader advice to you: You are proposing to convert this article to a redirect - to remove it as a separate article, in effect to delete it except for the name. You can see that the Requested Merge process is not likely to achieve anything, because it does not reach a wide enough audience - basically just the people who watch those articles. You really need community input for something like this. When I have a situation like this, where I truly do believe the subject does not meet guidelines and is not deserving of an article, I take it to AfD. I suggest the options of delete or redirect, and look for a community decision. If I'm NOT confident that the subject fails to meet GNG guidelines, then I shouldn't be proposing a redirect either, and I drop it.

So give it some thought: would people really agree at AfD that the article should not exist, except for a redirect? BTW I have no opinion on whether this article should be redirected or not; I am just talking process. There are people who disagree with the AfD approach, and I'm not suggesting this as an admin, just as another editor. But that is what I would do. --MelanieN (talk) 23:44, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Chief among the criteria is evidence that the band has been the subject of multiple instances of significant coverage, which also appears to be lacking. Help with article to be deleted on Craig Sherrad

Hi there and thanks for the welcome note!

I am obviously new to all of this and am having a hard time finding reliable sources for this guy. I wanted to write an article about him because he is a local Detroit artist and I am also from there. He's done cool things, worked with some cool people and he is a very humble and nice dude that I feel deserves to have his name out there. What would be considered a reliable source? There just isn't much on him out there, unfortunately. I can't find any NY, LA, or Detroit news on him because he was usually in the background doing sound or helping produce. What can I do to avoid this getting deleted when I just can't really find much about him other than what he has told me (I know him personally) or what I have read in his autobiography.

@Kevin Singer: Wikipedia has defined guidelines for what constitutes a reliable source: see Wikipedia:Reliable sources. What it boils down to is that Sherrad will need to have been the subject of significant coverage in an independent publication. So, bios of the artist at his record label's website, or at IMDb or DISCOGS (both of which sites are subject to public editing with no editorial review) are not sufficient. A review of one of his albums in a national level music magazine would be a good start. A profile of him (more than just a review of an album) would be even better. Mary Simpson

Thanks for your note and edits.

I understand the benefits of drastically condensing the "Mary Simpson" article to serve a larger population of Wiki readers. However, this is an instance of using Wiki as a platform for a narrow group of scholars to advance original research. The problem with Mary Simpson's story is it has been re-told incorrectly over the years. Research has not identified her true background. Only by carefully examining each source can advances occur in untangling her mystery. To say "Mary was the slave of Washington freed in 1790" merely perpetuates the historical inaccuracy.

I emailed the African-American history professors at Cornell Univ. and Colgate College, and researchers at Temple Univ. and the Mt. Vernon Estate Library, who are experts in Mary Simpson and asked them to edit the article. May I politely ask that you wait till September 2015 to cut the article to first enable this narrow group of scholars and their students to use the Wiki platform for this purpose?

If we have to cut the article now to the point past inaccurate portrayals are re-presented as true it's probably better to take it down. @Bjhillis: Your desire to clear up the story on Mary Simpson is laudable, but it is not what Wikipedia is here for. Specifically, Wikipedia does not publish original research. If you want to further the cause of research on her life, publish your research in a legitimate history journal, and let the narrowly-interested community discuss your findings in that forum. @Nshone: Wikipedia already has an article on packaging and labeling. You are free to expand that article, but not in a manner that might be perceived as promoting any given company. Well, I hope you are proud of yourself. You have managed to destroy a rather short, Wikipedia-acceptable article, and loaded it up with a bunch of errors - "Bedford" instead of the correct "New Bedford" and "Marshall" instead of the correct "Marshal." I defy anyone who reads this message to say that what you have come up with improved my version. What you have done is destroyed an article that would have been of great interest to Wikipedia users interested in the Wild West in general, or Dodge City in particular, and substituted a piece of absolute junk. @Jack DeMattos: You are free to correct the errors. The point of the effort was to render the article more properly in the prose style that Wikipedia prefers. I know that you do not prefer this style, but several editors have interacted with you on this issue and you refuse to accept their advice. removal of article under micronation.

This is exactly where this belongs. It almost does not need any citation. Did you read over some of the other micronations that are listed there. I submitted citations, and if you had done some more reading or looked into this further you would see that it should not have been deleted. We have more references and sources than many of the other nations listed.

@RobertACavendish: The citations you submitted were either links to other (marginally related) Wikipedia pages, or exclusively published by the "Republic of Aquitaine" itself: three references to the organization's own website, and three press releases, that anyone can publish. And the criteria for lists such as List of micronations is that the micronation actually have its own Wikipedia article first. If you can create such an article, and not have it deleted, then we can add the RoA to the list article. @WikiDan61: If one of the requirements of having a micronation added to the list is to have it's own individual page (Which was our next step), then please delete the request. However the listing under micronations definition should stay as it has more references and now has taken out anything you had an issue with. So therefore complies.

If you take a closer look it does state that it is a non state entity, and on their website they do state that they hold no rights or call for any rights to any lands. @RobertACavendish: In your request to have this entity added to List of micronations, you stated that the Republic of Aquitaine has "full legal sovereign status as established by its Declaration of Sovereignty". I suppose anyone can make such a declaration, but it is a meaningless declaration until the rest of the world (or at least some portion thereof) recognizes the claim. @WikiDan61: Essentially it is meaningless, and NO nation has to recognize your claim in order for it to be considered legitimate. The part were it becomes legitimate is in the direct line of family from Charlemagne to the current self titled Grand Duke II. Again he claims no right on any lands, and via the declaration and the line of succession... he does have a LEGITIMATE claim... even if the current state does not choose to recognize it.
Have you bothered to read what a micronation is or how they work before decided that you have the right to remove this.

I took out some parts that YOU have an issue with and resubmitted it.
After reading some of your responses from other it seems you do this quite a lot, please be a little more informed on a topic before deleting it.

Hi Dan, sorry for the mess. The page (yes about me) was not done by me, as far as I know it exists there for years without any of my involvement whatsoever… but since yesterday I wanted to add information to the page about one outstanding british soprano (that clearly deserves updated wiki page, in my opinion), I also checked the page about me and decided to correct some inaccurate things I found there and perhaps add something. Also, I saw the article is missing some sources and I simply knew about the sources, so I wanted to add them there. Next time, I will not touch "my page" I swear! I also added English translation (because I though anybody can do that, regardless if it's me or anybody else, it's just a translation to English), but again, I will not touch that either. The reason I deleted the warning about no reference of living person was clear, I added a couple of references about my existence. But, if they're not satisfactory, or the fact it's actually me is the problem again, okay, I will ignore my page from now on. If you delete it, I will not try to establish it either. Let wiki users decide what's worth the cyberspace:) Anyway, I will not correct nor change any information about any page that has anything to do with me in the future, even if there is false information. You know, it's hard sometimes, when somebody who knows you tells you "hey, in the wiki I saw some nonsense about you" … or "they say it's not sourced properly, why don't you add sources to it?" to tell them "I can't… because it's me", but I got the concept. @RobertJisa: Yes, providing the English translation of your page at cs-wiki would be acceptable, except that you have so extensively edited that page in recent days that it has become essentially an autobiography. A translation of an autobiography is still an autobiography. Thank you for understanding that you should no longer edit the page. And, even though you have added sources, another editor has chosen to restore the deletion tag, presumably based on their belief that the sources are not reliable. @Haxxorsid: No, I don't believe it was. My version has a clearer lead that identifies what the Presidential Standard of India is, and separates the description. It also uses a list rather than a table, which I feel is more readable, with text copied from List of flags of India which has been under development for some time and is a more developed description of the flag. If I didn't think I was improving the article, I wouldn't have edited it in the first place. This is a holiday with growing support. It was started by a Judge in Michigan and his daughter. It has bills for permanent recognition in both the House and Senate. The single source you provided was a Bengali literary magazine which did not appear to mention Amrit at all (although, the Google translation of the page may not have translated his name properly). @Kayzagga: It appears that I don't have to remove the comments, as you have done so for me. However, Kleen Respect are, as of 10 August 2015, ranked #9 on the Colorado Springs Shows chart. That does not equate to #9 nationally. And while one might surmise that a band that is presently ranked #9 might conceivably have been ranked #5 at some point, surmisal is not proof. And even #5 on this particular chart would not equate to a #5 national ranking. I still don't see any evidence of significant coverage for this band, and you admit yourself that this is still and "up and coming band", so I still can't support turning Draft:Kleen Respect into an actual article at this time. And since you are writing in the first person here, I presume that you are a member of the band, so I would direct you to Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy that basically says you should not be writing about your own band. Now, admittedly, I'm reading the Google translation of the page, and Google does a terrible job of translating Bengali to English, but I can't believe it would mistake the name Rik Amrit for Rakesh Mohan. @Mikehope: You really haven't done anything to assert the notability of Beale. A single play on BBC Introducing really doesn't cut it, as the whole point of that program is to introduce unknown artists. The link you've provided as a citation contains a picture, and links to his social media. There is literally not a single word written about him there. At Wikipedia, we require evidence of significant coverage, usually in multiple publications. I see that you already have a userspace draft of this article. Now I fixed it, it's a full copyright infringement from this site, additionally it's fully written in Italian and the title is incorrect (lowercase family name), so the article is fully eligible for speedy deletion based on en.wiki policies. If you'll look above this reply, you'll see that a response was given to your request. What is needed (to reiterate my response above) is that you provide evidence of significant coverage in independent sources. The sources you have cited so far consist of:

• a BBC Introducing page that has a picture of Beale and links to his social media, but not a single word of copy about him; and
• Beale's own page at BeatPort.

Neither of these sources provide evidence of significant coverage. The article won't be deleted for several days yet, so you have time to improve it if you can. WikiDan61^ChatMe!_ReadMe!! 17:29, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

@Mikehope123: Unfortunately, the two sources you've added ([8] and [9]) are not significant, independent sources. The MashUp Events page is actually a duplicate of the current Wikipedia page, and raises concerns of copyright violation (i.e. did you copy the Wikipedia page directly from this MashUp events profile?), and both sources appear to be artist profiles that were very likely contributed by the artist or his publicist. What is needed is evidence that an independent source, such as a music magazine or national level newspaper, has taken sufficient notice of Beale to publish an article about him. @Mikehope123: Yes, Wikipedia requires it to be worded differently to avoid violating Mashup Events' copyright. Regarding this article describing the Mashup Festival and Beale's role in its founding, that still doesn't bolster Beale's notability as a DJ. If the festival is notable as an event (which is unclear based on the single article you've provided), then perhaps an article could be created about it, but for now, I don't see that the article on Beale has yet demonstrated that he meets the criteria for inclusion. As a note, photos posted on Facebook are not considered reliable sources (people photoshop such photos all the time) and as such, will not bolster Beale's notability. The news story mentions Chris is a BBC Introducing artist, as well as playing a major festival. The other links (such as the Mashup website) officially confirm everything too.

Please tell me what more needs to be written. This is frustrating now. I have sent several creditable links.

What do i need to get up exactly please? You say notable things, and i have provided many official, creditable, non related links written about Chris, completely backimg up the wording in the Wikipedia page.

If you couls give me a few bullet points of information you would accept, then i will have them put up. If they arent already.

It would save a lot of time if you said what would be accepted, instead of saying no to everything, even though it is direct proof.

You can clearly see this is legitimate by the sheer amount of information provided from different sources......

@Mikehope123: No, you have not provided several credible links. You've provided links, but they do not indicate the level of independent coverage required for us to create an article. I have told you what would be accepted: a profile of Beale in a major music publication or reviews of his work in reliable sources. If you have not yet done so, I strongly recommend you read Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Notability (music). These Wikipedia policies will give you far more information than I can about what is needed. And please differentiate between legitimate and notable. @Commando Mark: I see that you have recreated this article, and that it has once again been tagged for deletion. The problem is that you have created an article that appears to be about some kind of military title, but there is no evidence to be found that this military title is actually in use by any military in the world. In this sense, it appears to be a term you made up, and Wikipedia doesn't accept articles about such things. If you can provide evidence in a reliable source for the use of such a term (and by reliable source, I don't mean the website of a person who calls himself this title, but an actual publication or official website of some military or government indicating the use of this term) then that will be a different matter. Further, since you have been involved largely in creating articles about Master Shifuji, a person who calls himself a Commandos Mentor, it appears that you are here solely for the purpose of promoting Master Shifuji's reputation. It's an article about an 18-year-old with a "formally known" stage name that gets precisely four Google results. Chris Beale Redux

Dan, the BBC staff themselves have described this as 'absurdly difficult', and do not understand how you are making this so hard. This is their staffs words.

You say the BBC page is blank, that is because they will only accept Wiki biographies. So im stuck in a loop here. They think Wiki is wrong for denying it.

You request a national news paper brand, which I supplied. Clearly stating Chris has major industry recognition by making it to BBCI. As well as playing one of the UKs biggest festivals.

There are major music brands links supplied, clearly stating information of Chirs being a major artist, that has contributed a lot to music. Let alone the NUMBER 1 POSITION ON THE GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR THE DJ RELAY.

There is direct proof he is a namable DJ. All I want is this information up without ridiculous hurdles. You ask for links, I supply them, then you change and say you want different. What more does a news paper need to say??? And il have them release a new story within a few weeks.

All im trying to do is get his biography on his BBCI page. I have provided several namable / official links. Just by simply looking at the sheer amount of matching information, on major well established sources, you can see this is legitimate. Only 1 other DJ in the world can claim the Guinness World Record. How much more information do you need? Tell me exactly what needs to be included with simple bullet points, and I will arrange it!!!!!! Please give me a straight answer.... what do you need in writing and I will get it.

If I re-write the bio on the Mashup Events official website, would that be enough? Or the same information but from another major source?

If I find another major source, whats to say you wont deny that like you did when I sent the NWN Medias link?

More Chris Beale

I do not understand how to speak to the person on the page talking about deletion? How do I reply to them? Their information is wrong, as it does not include the BBCI and major festival performance. It only mentions the event founding. So they have ignored half the information from the news paper source.

Also, there are other major / official sources there that are wrongly not being considered. But are actually more notable that the news paper, which has been accepted (even if only half the information has been acknowledged).

If you could tell me how I am to reply to that page I will happily.

 Not done @Hjin2020: I didn't delete it, I can't bring it back. I'm not an admin. That being said, there's little likelihood that an admin would bring it back, given that it was created and deleted three separate times, all three times because it made absolutely no assertion of notability. @Aikikai45: Thank you for reiterating the bibliography that is already listed at Judo do. This confirms to me that a gentleman named Hubert Klinger-Klingerstorff wrote several books on this topic (always linking Judo and Judo-do). It also confirms that the form has had passing mention in a sports encyclopedia, and in several other books. I don't have access to most of the books, but considering the paucity of sources found when one searches for the term "judo do" in Google, I have to question the notability of this form of judo. Since the article has been repeatedly deleted, I recommend that you open a discussion at Talk:Judo regarding the addition of a section in that article about this form. @Akikai45: No, actually I did not decide it was a hoax. I redirected the article to Judo as a non-notable variation on an existing topic. After you reverted that change, another editor tagged the article as a hoax. I actually removed the hoax tag, understanding that this is not a hoax, but still not notable. @MethodRaceWheels: The article, as it presently stands, is a blatant ad for the company. And since your username clearly implies a connection to the organization, you're not really the person to create the article in the first place. Your best course of action is to request an article, listing the reasons you think this company merits inclusion at Wikipedia. Not sure I follow. Seems like you're a little quick with the delete button. What constitutes a notable company? I had started to write the article 5 minutes before I was contacted by you, not nearly enough time to set up a proper page, especially for someone new to the platform. I don't understand how writing an article on the history of the company, production methods, products offered, product innovations and contributions to their given market etc. does not constitute a worthwhile article? As for what constitutes a notable company, I invite you to read WP:ORG, Wikipedia's guidelines on that topic. And again, because of your conflict of interest, it may be difficult for you to assume the proper neutral point of view that Wikipedia requires in its articles.
