@Khadeeralisk: I will say again that if you wish to weigh in on the deletion of this article, you must do so at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Arjun tendulkar. What you say here will have no impact on that discussion: I will not be the one to delete the article; rather an administrator will weigh the opinions given at the Articles for deletion page against Wikipedia policies to decide whether the page stays or goes. CMP225[edit]

Hey buddy. Why you deleting my page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DennisCMP225 (talkcontribs) 18:48, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@DennisCMP225: You created an article about your computer class. There is no indication that this class meets the criteria for inclusion. Although anyone can edit Wikipedia, that does not mean that any topic you choose to write about will be appropriate. Only topics that have been demonstrated to be notable based on significant coverage in independent sources are included in Wikipedia.

As for your contention that "need it for our class grade. We add content on wednesday", that is unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that all articles must meet the criteria for inclusion or face deletion. If your teacher has asked you to create a Wikipedia article specifically about this class, then your teacher has given you a poor assignment, and should be directed to WP:School and university projects in order to better understand how to use Wikipedia in an academic situation. If, on the other hand, your teacher has told you to create a new Wikipedia article, and the topic you chose was your own class, then the failure is yours for choosing a poor topic. Benjamin Walter and Pink Zone[edit]

Hi, why on earth are Pink Zone and Benjamin Walter still being deleted ? I gave wikipedia my copyright ownership ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.82.25.125 (talk) 22:32, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Most recently, the articles were deleted because it was obvious that the creator of the articles had created a new account in order to evade a block placed on an earlier account, which is against the rules. Then, using this illegal account, the creator create these articles, which, having been created by a blocked user in violation of their block, were eligible for speedy deletion for this reason alone. However, on a deeper level, the articles were deleted for being spammy articles about a not particularly notable film by an almost completely non-notable director. Copyright issues had nothing to do with the matter, although it is generally pointless to donate copyrighted material from your film's website as the material is guaranteed to be promotional. A little piece of advice[edit]

Dear Sir what if i make some amends to the article and then delete the speedy deletion tag. Would it be ok? My Regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rangergirl34 (talkcontribs) 13:20, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since Educate My Girl has already been deleted once based on a valid AFD discussion, recreating it one day later may be problematic. Your best plan, if you insist on moving forward, and if you are not eventually blocked as a sock of Nandinigoel.india (talk · contribs) as I suspect you will be, is to create a draft article at either Draft:Educte My Girl or at User:Rangergirl34/Educate My Girl, and then, once you have gotten it into a form you think is ready, submit it through the articles for creation process. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:24, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Sir. This is the link to the fundraiser we did an year back.http://www.youcaring.com/other/educate-my-girl-computer-program/112232 . I hope this might be a little proof of our notability. Regards. Waiting for your honoured decision. --Rangergirl34 (talk) 13:49, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Rangergirl34: No, that is no proof at all. All charitable organizations hold fundraisers; that doesn't make them notable. And again, because this article has already been through a deletion discussion, I suggest you consider creating a draft article with all the sources you can find, and then allow that article to be reviewed. Shoestore.com[edit]

Hello WikiDan,

Thanks for getting back with me. Yes, I am affilitated however I do understand that neutrality is key to Wikipedia and therefore I wrote the post in a very neutral manner. I am not trying to make an advertisement simply posting an informational page. I do have some interesting info and facts to add including that fact that our parent company has the oldest shoe store in the United States along with some other interesting historical information. I didn't have time to write a long post today and plan on completing the article later this week. Would it be worth my time or will it not be within the Wikipedia guidelines due to the fact that I am affilitated? Thanks for the help and info!

-Brady Stout — Preceding unsigned comment added by Albstout (talkcontribs) 19:56, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Albstout: It sounds to me like the parent store might be more notable (as the oldest shoe store in America) than the website (but only if that factoid can be verified). My suggest would be to write your article as a draft (at Draft:Stout Shoes or similar title) and then submit for review through the articles for creation process. ComVey deletion[edit]

Dear WikiDan61,

My name is Dan Miklosz, I am the founder/CEO of the startup ComVey.

You motioned to delete the short article I proposed to upload about my company, ComVey.

I would greatly appreciate if you would change your stance on this issue. We will begin testing ComVey this November and anything on the internet about us will help greatly. When people see the businesses we are testing with and google us, if they can see our Wikipedia page that would leave a great impression.

If you stand firm that this article is not a best fit for Wikipedia, what can I do to make it to a point where Wikipedia would accept it.

Email me for a fast response: [email protected]

Best regards,

Dan Miklosz — Preceding unsigned comment added by Djmiklosz (talkcontribs) 14:58, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Djmiklosz: Wikipedia does not exist for your to promote your product. All topics at Wikipedia must meet the general notability guidelines which state that the topic must have been the subject of multiple instances of significant coverage from independent sources. A software application, written by a group of students, and not yet even tested or fielded, is unlikely to have received such coverage, as indicated by the fact that your Wikipedia page appears to be the only information available about your application. Come back when you've launched your product and received any significant press for it, and then perhaps an article can be created. Also note that, as the CEO of the company, you have a fairly obvious conflict of interest. Your desire to promote your product is not in line with Wikipedia's aim not to promote products. Therefore, you may not be the best person to create the article about this product. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:42, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How about the article written like this, or should I erase the company's vision aswell?

The Management School London[edit]

The group was established in 1980 and has over 30 years of global experience developing programmes for executives worldwide, across a diverse industry mix. The school has operational bases in Europe, United States of America and Africa.

The following schools are members of The Management School London:

  • The International School of Public Relations
  • The International School of Marketing
  • The International School of Banking and Finance
  • The international School of Management

The Management School London vision is: “to be a centre of excellence – a professional and credible institution – working in the public interest, and supporting the achievement of the national and international economic development goals. “ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tmsprogrammes (talkcontribs) 14:48, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Tmsprogrammes: That's a lovely ad; it has no place on Wikipedia. And your username indicates that you probably have a significant conflict of interest. Let it lie or request an article and let someone else write it. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:58, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Creative Sciences[edit]

You're killing me. Not sure how to make the page more legit. I've cited the only source on the internet using the term in a way that actually refers to a theoretical practice. I know it points to a book seller, but I'm not sure of a better way to cite printed materials. The rest of the definition comes from Campbell Mithun who hasn't made it available online yet, but will be releasing materials that can be cited soon (at which point I'll link the citations to the media making reference).

It's obvious I'm not just trolling the internet (there are plenty of other places to do that ... and really would I troll with Creative Sciences).

I think it would be helpful that instead of citing obscure guidelines buried among thousands of pages on Wikipedia - you could offer some input about what parts of the post that don't follow the strict rules of Wiki. I also wouldn't be opposed to you taking a stab at offering some edits.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andreux2014 (talkcontribs) 22:20, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Andreux2014: The problem is that "Creative Sciences" appears to be one company's term for their particular brand of marketing science. It is not a generally accepted term used in any consistent manner. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 00:34, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Response[edit]

To be fair, yes, you didn't nominate the article for deletion. However, the majority of contributors to that WikiBomb event, which was specifically aimed at getting new editors in with interests in under-represented areas, wound up getting their notability challenged in some way - whether just with tags or outright deletion, despite the fact they were all notable, cited good sources, and if their claims to notability weren't obvious in the text of the articles it was easy enough to confirm. I'd be surprised if we see any of those editors again as a result, even though we could really badly use their expertise - and you weren't the worst offender, but you absolutely contributed to that.

I'm tired of the apparently-reigning attitude that biting and scaring off newbies is fine as long as you do it with a lawyer's tone. The asked-for helpfulness is certainly lacking when it comes to newbies like those at the WikiBomb, and it's an attitude that's killing the project. It's a really sad reflection when we wind up having to have conversations like that currently on the Australian noticeboard, where experienced editors are having to fill in badly-needed gaps because we know if newbies do the same they'll get jumped on - even if they're using the same sources. Claim of Notability - HANDS OF TIME (HOT) article - deletion issue[edit]

Hi WikiDan61.

I'm a new user. I would love to know if all the "references" about the article, including links to all the main mass media sites who talked about the band, can be considered as "CLAIM OF NOTABILITY".

Should i "update" the article with a claim?

Thx — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leoariel85 (talkcontribs) 13:22, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Leoariel85: The references that have been added appear to be of two types: a) blogs and other sources of unknown reliability and b) mainstream media about Amanda Knox, herself a notable figure, but whose notability is not inherited by H.O.T. through any association with her, because they are not the central topic of any of the mainstream media stories. Notre Dame Academy[edit]

Hi -

I don't understand why my updates keep getting deleted. I am simply posting historical and current facts about a private school. By no means am I advertising or promoting anything. Why can't I make these updates? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kdagostino (talkcontribs) 20:29, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Kdagostino: The historical facts have been retained. But your addition of a mission statement has been reverted. As noted in the edit summary when I first reverted that addition, mission statements are inappropriate in Wikipedia because they are inevitably self-promotional. (See WP:MISSION.) Rather than trying to add the mission statement, write about what the school has actually achieved, in concrete and verifiable terms (with citations to back up the claims, please). Krav Maga[edit]

Hi,

I added the link to the website of Boaz Aviram Pure Krav Maga - Self Defense Mastery, because he was the 3rd Chief Instructor in the Israeli Defense Forces (as stated above in the Krav_Maga article). Thus I consider the extensive information he provides on his website one of the few relevant sources for the topic of Krav Maga.

Thanks, Christoph.kofler (talk) 12:25, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Christoph.kofler: Except the website doesn't appear to provide extensive valuable information. Instead, it seems to exist largely to sell Aviram's books and videos. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:36, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm ... you're right. I've mixed up the websites - here is the site I wanted to link: http://kravmaganewyork.blogspot.co.at/p/krav-maga-name.html

13:06, 11 November 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Christoph.kofler (talkcontribs)

@Christoph.kofler: That portion of Aviram's site is somewhat less promotional. I have no argument against you adding that. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:19, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I just got another message that you removed the link again. In your previous comment you approved it - I'm confused ;)

Christoph.kofler (talk) 13:59, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Christoph.kofler: If you're talking about this edit, you'll notice that it was made by XLinkBot, not by me. XLinkBot is a bot (an automated software program) that scans Wikipedia article and removes external links that are not approved. In this case, the edit summary indicates that the link was removed because it is to a BlogSpot page. BlogSpot is an uncontrolled website where users can write just about anything they want with no editorial control. As such, it is not considered a reliable source of information for Wikipedia readers. While the link you posted is not necessarily promotional, the bot also doesn't think it's necessarily very useful either. It often happens that if you simply readd the link, XLinkBot will allow it to remain. As you have said: this link is to the blog of a key founder of the Krav Maga form, so I'm inclined to agree with you that it has value. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:44, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ok, added it again - let's see if the bot likes me ;) Actually the blog contains only content from Boaz Aviram, therefore nothing "uncontrolled" can be found there.

Unreliable source??[edit]

This man (Antiogianni (Frank) Landi---casalandi.net), has been researching the Landi family Genealogy and history for 23 years has published two historical books and has all of his research referenced through noted Italian researcher's and historians. The Historical content of his site and his books is the most in depth look at our family history (he is a distant cousin of mine) done by anyone, at any time, including Cardinal Antonio Samore' of the Vatican d1983. He covers a couple of fringe stories on his site that are associated with the family name and our castles in Italy, these should in no way sway your assessment of the historically referenced facts that he does deal with.

Publically proclaiming a historian and author as,"Unreliable," without proclaimed cause is walking the tightrope of libelous public statements. CHECK YOUR FACTS AND HIS REFERENCE MATERIALS ALL LISTED ON THE SITE. Unless you can read Italian and Latin and spent hours researching these sources (You have not had the time). You have made a mistake.

@036386536a: This is not a matter I care to deal with in my personal email. It is a Wikipedia matter and it can be dealt with here in the Wikipedia talk pages. The website in question (http://www.casalandi.net) is the personal webpage of a person who has been researching his own family history. He has published books? Super! If they were published by a reputable publisher, then they will count as reliable sources. But short of that, the website you've sited has no indications that there is any form of editorial review. It is one man's research. I find no indications that Antiogianni Lanni is a reputable historian. Only that he has published a website. His research may well be sound, but without any history of publishing his results in any sort of reviewed forum, we cannot accept such material as a reliable source at Wikipedia. I encourage you to read Wikipedia's information about reliable sources.
As to the copyright issues involved, sending me anything will not help. I'm not any sort of authority at Wikipedia; I'm just another editor, like you. Hope you are well. I have been working on adding two listings to "Wikipedia Online" first the "Landi" Surname page and another page "The House of Landi" Please check them out for any needed editing when you get a chance .
I also need your permission to reference some materials from your Casalandi website. I have almost 30 references to Wikipedia articles, many Vatican references and references to Lo Stato Landi book by Cardinal Samore'; 1983.
They have changed the Dori-Phamphlli-Landi page and now say her roots only go back to the 12th century Genoese which I note on our listing under Royal Landi's basically our line should be listed as an ancient Roman line since we do have historical reference back before that.
Let me know what you think. If you have or open a quick account on Wikipedia you can directly edit the two pages I created. Please feel free to correct anything I have missed or any mistakes.

Take Care. Thanks David

PS If I dont get permission from you the one reference I have to your site will get it pulled. I would like to have more than one link reference to your site. Its up to you. Reference?[edit]

I will reference his books so we don't need to interact again. As far aggrandizement; I can burry you in Vatican Library Public, Italian Historical publications so deep it will take you a month to sort through them and many more to read. I was actually trying to keep it simple, half the story is not even online. Antioganni is terminal has a few months left at most, and I am just making sure the real history does not get lost "again". If you bothered to check the work by Cardinal Samore" of the Vatican, he published that book on "The State of Landi", lo stato Landi weeks before he died in 1983. The reason (more than half his references are from the "Secret Vatican Library,") He has family ties and did not want our history buried any longer. The Vatican and the Farnese family tried to wipe the Landi Family from history after the assignations and the part the Vatican played. Stick to editing. Facts have a life of there own. You want reference. That's what you will get. I don't do conspiracy just facts.

Please step away from the conspiracy ledge. No one has said anything about a conspiracy. I don't doubt the significance of the family. I don't doubt the validity of the Cardinal Samore reference. But I know nothing of Antiogianni Landi, and there does not appear to be any information about him online, so I have no way to know whether his research is legitimate. Lots of people spend their entire lives researching their family histories and even publish books on the topic, but that doesn't make the research historically valid. I don't know -- Landi's research may well be valid. But citiing his own personal, unreviewed website doesn't really help Wikipedia, because we need reliable sources. I didn't make up these rules: these are the policies and guidelines agreed to by the entire community. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:30, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews[edit]

Hello WikiDan61. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).[reply]

Citation[edit]

Hi, There was a Vatican Library reference to the book in there did you remove it? I can link to that book in different ways. I actually have a original copy sitting right in front of me. Was there a problem with the Vatican link

Farnese killing by Landi and conspirators[edit]

This one is pretty specific. I will reference every name and situation to the Vatican library shortly. Its all in Latin and takes me time to translate my latin sucks. I do need a link to explain how to include the family Crests on this page and the genealogy tree from Samore's book. My great grandfather Nicolo Landi walked away from all this 115 years ago and came to America I have no idea why we still have many family members there. They bought a lot of property and opened the largest Italian Bakery in New England. My grandfather was a baker in Little Italy in Providence Rhode Island. As you will see as the page develops I am doing this to make sure that what Antigianni started over 40 years ago is never buried again. It is actually a fascinating story. The screen play is being worked on in California right now (A Thousand years of Landi Princes) now and there will be a three part series on The Travel Channel in a few months on the Ghost angle of Bardi Castle, silly yes . I get nothing from this. My sons though are all dual Italian citizens will at least know the family history. That's all this is about Factual History and reversing what the Vatican and Farnese family had done over 1 hundred years ago. Thanks for your assistance. David Landi

It may well be a fascinating story, but it may not necessarily be encyclopedic. Wikipedia is not the place to work out your personal genealogy. There are plenty of places for that. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:55, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Monaco[edit]

I actually have other conflicting reference. The Royal family of Monaco is also skewing the facts in their own interest. They actually released a silver commemorative coin with Do Federico Landi on it a couple of years back and have invited us to the upcoming celebrations of the founding of Monaco.. I will look at more reference from someone with no skin in the game. There is quite a bit of material on it.

Genealogy trees are included in other Surname houses.[edit]

Is this a policy of Wikipedia? Other family lines include that tree on their pages.

Yes, other Wikipedia pages include family trees on their pages, and for historically significant families, that is appropriate. I'm not saying it would be inappropriate to include a family tree on the House of Landi page. But it is often the case that users have done extensive genealogy studies of their families, and want to publish that information, whether or not the information has any encyclopedic value. I was just cautioning against that type of content. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:30, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A Call to Action Canon 212 (3)[edit]

Dan, I included the full text of Canon 212 (3) because the selected phrase when read alone has a different meaning to when it is read in the full context of 212 (3). In particular, the later clause stating 'without prejudice to the integrity of faith and morals, with reverence toward their pastors' makes it clear that Canon 212 (3) is not an authorisation to dissent. The former citation for the quote - http://vatican2voice.org - is a pressure group with a similar agenda to ACTA and has itself quoted selectively.HayesBob (talk) 00:01, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Earth Heir should be on Wikipedia[edit]

Hi WikiDan61,

Just wanted to let you know that as part of trying to live an ethical lifestyle in a country where such a thing is scarce, this company which I have come across is trying to make that difference in Malaysia.

Plus, the write-up is solely based on the articles written by other media houses locally and internationally and also their website and also experiencing the company at the American Association of Malaysia Charity Bazaar.

It would be great if you could recheck and let me know how exactly is it promotional. I can even remove the company's website if that is the main reason.

Thanks and looking forward to your reply!

Warisbumi (talk) 15:43, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Warisbumi[reply]

@Warisbumi: Given the amount of press that Earth Heir has generated, I suspsect you're correct: they should have a Wikipedia article. Just not the article you've written. Your article has failed to maintain a neutral point of view to the point of being blatantly promotional, and would require a fundamental rewrite from the ground up to become an acceptable Wikipedia article. I have pointed out exactly how it is promotional by quoting specific phrases in Talk:Earth Heir. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:54, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The deletion of Lab Made[edit]

Dear administrator,

I hope that you can give me another chances to edit the Wikipedia page of "Lab Made". I was mistakenly use wrong words so the essay were seems advertising. My aim for writing this page isn't for advertising this ice cream shop. Therefore can you give me another chance to let me have some corrections on the essays? Thanks for your time. Best regards,

@Rowenawwy: I'm not an administrator, and I didn't delete your page. I did nominate it for speedy deletion as I believed it to be overtly promotional. If you intend to recreate this page, I would suggest that you create it as a draft, either in your own user space (at User:Rowenawwy/Lab Made) or in the Draft: namespace (at Draft:Lab Made). You can follow the procedure at WP:Articles for creation to request an independent review of your article. Any number of Wikipedia editors regularly monitory the Articles for Creation queue and review the waiting articles. If you have succeeded in your attempt to remove the promotional language from the article, and in demonstrating that the company is notable enough to merit an article, than the reviewer will likely accept your submission and it will be moved to main article space. If you have not succeeded, than the reviewer will likely leave you feedback on how you may improve your submission. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:41, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article about Iryna Sysoienko[edit]

Good day. I am writing you about the following article on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iryna_Sysoyenko

You wrote that this article is going to be deleted bacause of the not-notable person. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Iryna_Sysoyenko

But, actually this person is notable, because she is a nation-level politician, and she was elected to the Ukrainian Parliament in the list of the "Samopomich Union" political party.

This is a list of deputies elected on extraordinary parliamentary election on 26.10.2014 from Central Election Commission of Ukraine. As you see, Sysoienko Iryna Volodymyrivna was elected from Political party SAMOPOMICH Union, No.25 (that is her number in the list) http://www.cvk.gov.ua/pls/vnd2014/WP401E?pt001f01=910&lit=83&current_row=811#

Here, on the official website of Samopomich Union, there is a list of actually elected people from the list. Sysoienko is No.25 (out of 33 already elected people from this political party) http://samopomich.ua/category/team/page/2/

"Samopomich Union" took 3rd place on the elections http://www.cvk.gov.ua/pls/vnd2014/wp300e?PT001F01=910

This political party is also second most popular in Kyiv (capital of Ukraine) http://www.cvk.gov.ua/pls/vnd2014/wp302E?PT001F01=910&pf7171=185

Please, do not delete this Article.

Also, could you please change the name of this lady in the top of an Article. Her actual full name is SYSOIENKO IRYNA. And she is from POLITICAL PARTY SAMOPOMICH UNION (not self reliance union) That is official information from official website of Central Election Commission of Ukraine. http://www.cvk.gov.ua/pls/vnd2014/WP401E?pt001f01=910&lit=83&current_row=811#

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Радион Черемушкин (talkcontribs)

@Радион Черемушкин: The article has been nominated for deletion and the reasons are given at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Iryna Sysoyenko. If you wish to add your views to the discussion about the deletion of this article, please do so there.
As for the subject's name, presumably her surname (her family name) is Sysoyenko (the Ukrainian Сисоєнко can be transliterated to English either as Sysoyenko, Sysoienko, Sisoyenko or Sisoienko; it's just a matter of choice of the translator) while her given name is Iryna. While it is common at the Ukrainian Wikipedia to list biographical topics surname first, that is not the practice at the English Wikipedia. As for the name of her political party, the article on en.wiki lists its name as Self Reliance, which is the common English translation of the Ukrainian word Самопоміч. @74.61.193.6: Give you some time for what? You've recently been editing the House of Landi article, that I haven't touched since 19 November. You've got all the time in the world, as far as I'm concerned. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:08, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So here are the facts. First and most important Honore II was a child incapable of ruling anything when his father was assassinated and mother Lord Maria died in child birth shortly after the assasination. Then their castle/ home came under attack and they would have been killed if it were not for their uncle Prince Frederico came to Monaco and grabbed them from the family staff who had been hiding them, he then escorted them into exile in Milan. Until he could go back to Monaco and stabilize it. He not only save Monaco he saved the only Royal family left two children his niece and nephew who would have certainly perished. My sources are real historical fact. Everyone wants to put a spin on it. you have to pay attention to the dates, They were little kids and would certainly have been killed if not for Frederico. Quote from Royal site below:

"Jeanne Grimaldi was the sister of HSH Prince Honore II of Monaco. Born in 1596, one of three children, to Lord Hercules I of Monaco and Maria Landi. Her brother Honore was born the following year but their lives were soon disrupted in a violent way by the assassination of Lord Hercules on November 23, 1604. It was only the latest tragedy for the Grimaldi family as their mother, Lady Maria Landi of Valdetare, had died giving birth to her third child, a daughter. Now, the palace was under attack and all their lives were threatened. Jeanne and Honore were hid by the family servants when the attack came and later the children were taken into the care of their uncle Federico Prince of Valdetare. After securing his position as regent Valdetare escorted Jeanne and Honore into exile in Milan where they would be safe until the situation in Monaco could be stabilized"

Now was Frederico some knight in shining Armour?..No, obviously. For the Landi's and others at that time it was all about power and money In the end he did the right thing the rightful heirs were restored to Monaco. Monaco recently minted a coin honoring Federico, they are well aware of how differently things could have turned out. Historical fact is not aggrandizement. Facts: He saved their lives, came to Monaco and took the children to Milan for safety until he could stabilize Monaco. He stabilized Monaco which was on the verge of being taken by a number of different players among them the Spanish. He was certainly no saint nor were most of the other Landi's in power over a 700 year period, but what they did do is historical fact. We even had the biggest narcissist of all times "El Magnifico," he is a family joke. Most of these characters are right out of some fantastic fictional novel. If you believe a statement to be aggrandizement by your standards please be specific and I will remove it or prove it with indisputable reference. Its a historical fact that the Vatican and the Farnese family almost wiped the Landi state from history, The Vatican still holds many books and documents in the Secret Vatican library about their involvement in various military maters and assassinations.(The Landi's started out as Warlords and a large mercenary army in the dark ages) Cardinal Samore in 1983 on his death bad listed all of the Vatican materials,"Hundreds," still not available. I have all the listings and still attempt to access them and get them released. Samore released the book lo stato landi on his death bed because he would have been excommunicated for releasing all the information he did release in that book. Not all obviously it would have taken numerous books to do. I am leaving all this out of wiki, if someday I get the materials I have been working on it will also get included. I am not holding my breath Thanks David036386536a (talk) 14:23, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If I skewed anything it was that I didnt give enough Credit to Federico. He saved their lives and their country.74.61.193.6 (talk) 01:25, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Also I never responded to you comment to me trying to link myself to this history. I dont have to try to its a fact and my line of the family goes back right to Pompeo brother of Federico. I am the administrator of the "Landi DNA" project, "The Landi Genealogical Project." Half of my family is still in Italy in Vanafro outside of Naples, lands granted directly from Pompao are still owned and farmed by us. My line of the family broke with the royals over a hundred years ago over numerous disputes and most immigrated to America in 1901.I do this to reverse the damage done by the Vatican and the Farnese and Medici over the years. Entire families should not be written out of History.Thanks036386536a (talk) 14:37, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@036386536a: Writing your article based on legitimate, peer-reviewed, significant sources will assure that the article is not deleted from Wikipedia. But please remember that this is not the place to grind your axe. If your family is significant, the sources will show that. Your own personal research into your family's DNA or its roots in ancient Rome is not truly significant: many families can trace roots to ancient Rome. Your family's position in history is significant, and merits inclusion at Wikipedia, but we must be careful to place that history in its proper context and not over-aggrandize it. Persistent Information Retrieval System[edit]

I am pretty new to Wiki. I am researching on a topic: Persistent Information Retrieval System. I was quite amused that I could not find a wiki page for this well known topic. So, started writing an article based on my readings and notes taken while doing research. Would like know your suggestions on the same.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Deepakagrawal075 (talkcontribs)

@Deepakagrawal075: How does your idea of a "persistent information retrieval system" differ from a persistent object store?

Hi, "persistent information retrieval system" is a system which makes use of persistent object store for storing data and schema. Retrieval System will consists of various algorithms and application build on top of this. For example, geographic locations is stored in form of object and you can find shortest distance between two locations using some algorithms. Persistent Object Store is for only storing data and IR system use this store wisely to make useful application out of this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deepakagrawal075 (talkcontribs) 05:27, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear WikiDAn61 you can be sure about us being the Filmproduction's office. Since yesterday we removed the main article on the "Blood Countess" Wiki was refering too, you can easily verify on our homepage http://www.ulrikeottinger.com/index.php/films.html. We even tried to ask people who had important posts on this issue to remove them. When trying to restart the film project on the base of the already existing script, it is important that there are no obsolete informations around the cast in such important sites as Wikipedia, I hope you understand. So just again, for your courtesy, could you review the article, or better take it offline until we provide new and current informations. Thank you very much for your understanding, Best regards, Ulrike Ottinger Filmproduktion

@UOttinger Filmproduktion: No, I can't be sure of that, and even if I were sure of that, this is not your Wikipedia page, this is a page about a project you are involved in. (Please see WP:OWN.) GOCE coordinator elections[edit]

Hello WikiDan, I have slightly improved Tradeweb Markets LLC (company). It was created by a new editor and tagged for speedy deletion based on WP:A7. I think the article needs a lot of work, but the subject does seem notable enough for inclusion. What do you think?. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 19:19, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That was fast, thank you.--Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 19:30, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

December 2014 GOCE newsletter[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors December 2014 Newsletter

Drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in November's Backlog Elimination Drive. Of the 43 people who signed up for this drive, 26 copy edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: The November Drive removed 26 requests from the Requests page and 509 articles from the {{copy edit}} backlog. We copy edited 83 articles tagged in the target months; July, August, and September 2013. Together with tag removals from articles unsuitable for copy editing, we eliminated July 2013 from the backlog and reduced August and September's tags to 61 and 70 respectively. As of 01:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC), the backlog stood at 1,974 articles, dipping below 2,000 for the first time in the Guild's history (see graph at right). Well done everyone!

Blitz: The December Blitz will run from December 14–20 and will focus on articles related to Religion, in recognition of this month's religious holidays in much of the English-speaking world. Awards will be given out to everyone who copy edits at least one of the target articles. Sign up here!

Zomi[edit]

Thank you on your kind, My name is Mr well(Pa Sum),and live in north east India. I want to claim the articles of 'Zo People = Zomi People'. The cover page of Zo people is Zomi/Zomi People. The Zo/zou clan is one of theMongollion Tribe. Zo means High Land. Zomi is founded in the past several year. In 2014 the myanmar had ethnics census. Before in this census the Myanmar government named the various tribes except zomi. And the State is named chin state by the goverment. which means carrying busket. The chin name is nobody like that in their future, while our native name Zomi is at the hand of ours.In this time the zomi is not recognised by the government. We the zomi nationalist group hardly struggle to the recognise government. In this time the clan zo is recognised. meanwhele, the chin(401) strongly opposed Zomi recognition. Now the result of zomi is seem to better. The chin group invited the zo/zou clan. In condition of the census result the recognised tribe is dellete/add. The zo/zou clan is believed to dellete. The election result is to be ploclaimed 2016 only. Before the zo/zou name fall ploblaim , the chin group borrow the zo/zou name. In these why our victorious(Zomi Recognition) is extolted by the chin group(chin is opposition of zomi) through the almost died zo/zou clan. @Mrwellnaulak: As I mentioned on your own user talk page, I can't comment on your points here because your English is so fractured that I really have no idea what you're trying to say. The only thing I can say is that we presently have an article on the Zo people that indicates that this name encompasses the Zomi people. You will need to produce reliable sources to dispute this and to create a separate article on the Zomi people. But since you clearly can't write clearly in English, I recommend you find a Wikipedia in your own native language to write this article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:21, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Mr Well
The zo people idially means that all the man who lived in hill. but in zomi the nature in cultural and physical are dipped in zo.
Now the Zomi editor are the supporter of Chin/mizo. The Chin/Mizo had state in myanmar and india. They gether in their state. Now the stands, Zomi were not in human right in their state. The man who born in their state is also called the foreingner. But their clanner were never says as foreingner. In these therefore why the feeling of these are planted in zomi people. The zomi people were the remaining from mizo and chin. The chin national front straggle with zomi and chin, but the minority people chin fired all the zomi. In mizoram state the zomi people were can never the get to human right. In this from feeling the Zomi, the native naion zomi is founded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrwellnaulak (talkcontribs) 16:36, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Carroll[edit]

I have added sources and will add more. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hesione12 (talkcontribs) 18:55, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Hesione12: So I've noted. So far the sources don't appear to indicate that Carroll is anything other than an ordinary book editor with a few published (self-published?) titles to his name. Sufficient to avoid speedy deletion, but more is needed. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:59, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Neither of those books are self-published. Just because these are not large US companies does not make them invalid. Greystone (http://greystonebooks.com/about.php), which was part of Douglas and MacIntryre (one of the largest publishers in Canada) and had sales that out-sold Mclelland and Stewart (please note that you have an extensive bio on Douglas Gibson who was the editor of McClelland and Stewart). Dead False was originally published by Mercury Press which was an influential literary publisher, small, but still influential. Note that Greystone publishes the following: Greystone publishes a wide range of thought-provoking and gifted Canadian and international authors, including David Suzuki, Candace Savage, Charlotte Gill, Andrew Nikiforuk, Mike Berners-Lee, Julie Angus, Brian Brett, Wayne Grady, Merilyn Simonds, Allan Casey, Wade Davis, Anita Albus, Harry Thurston, Lorna Crozier, Jane Christmas, and Paul Quarrington, among many others.

Of course, if you are American you are unlikely to be familiar with Canadian authors so I guess that only editors that work with about three or four authors that Americans believe are American (like Alice Munro whom the US publisher marketed her as American to get more sales) and a few others are considered to be influential. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hesione12 (talkcontribs) 23:38, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mike V has already given you advice about how to deal with the copyright issue. Please leave me out of any further discussion on the matter. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:11, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you, but I already presented the papers and it seems its not good enough What I am supposed to present if a Copyright certificate with 9 years old expedition, mentioning POLAND (Domain dot EDU DOT PL) meaning www.unem.edu.pl is NOT GOOD ENOUGHT for you??? Furthermore the published article is infamous and harm University reputation. So, what I ask is the article to be unprotected or edited.PolandMEC (talk) 15:48, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@PolandMEC: As I mentioned at Talk:Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica, your copyright certificate is irrelevant. Just because you received a copyright certificate for your website, that doesn't make it the official website of the university. It just means that you own all of the content of that particular website. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:41, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to do the same thing with the article (nominate for speedy), but I've found a couple of sources. I will add them, and after doing so, I think the article should be brought to AfD, because the sources I found are probably WP:ROUTINE. Feel free to do so. Aleksandar Boskovic[edit]

Dear WikiDan,

I didn't want to make a page for Aleksandar Boskovic in English Wiki, it was unintentional. Please tell me how to re-direct it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkoPisev (talkcontribs) 18:01, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@MarkoPisev: You can't redirect a page across different Wikipedia's. If you had intended to create this page at the Serbian Wikipedia, you can edit the English version, copy all of the text, and then create the page on the Serbian Wikipedia and paste the content from the English page. Once you've got that done, just replace the contents of the English page with the template {{db-author}}. This will inform an administrator that you wish to have the page deleted. Lupa Aircraft Models[edit]

hello WikiDan,

I do not understand why other manufacturers are mentioned and ours is not possible ?

sorry ..just a beginner !!

Roeland — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lupa Aircraft Models (talkcontribs) 15:59, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lupa Aircraft Models: The problem is two-fold:
  1. Your article doesn't actually say anything about your company, it just contains a rather short blurb on the advantages of your product, which one would have to classify as advertising. Wikipedia doesn't allow advertising.
  2. Your username pretty effectively broadcasts that fact that you have come here to promote your company and its products. Again, advertising, which is forbidden.
Although not stated as a reason for the speedy deletion, your article also makes no claims of notability. There are lots of companies that make model aircraft, but Wikipedia is not a business directory. Not every company in any given field should be included, only those that are somehow significant, as evidenced by the existence of significant coverage of the company in independent media. You have provided no evidence of this, so your company's article would have been deleted for this reason if not for overt promotion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:18, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My article is NOT an autobiography: Walter J. Koch[edit]

My article is NOT an autobiography but you keep marking it as such. I am new to wikipedia and I signed up simply to write this ONE article (that is why my username is the same as the article, I don't plan on writing anything else) I am a student at Temple University and was asked by the school to write an article about one of their department chairs. I don't know what else to do or how I can be more straightforward with the information. If you could explain to me what to do or show me what I am doing wrong that would be great. I feel bad for this guy because everyone is going to think he is full of himself and writing his own autobiography now. Thank you, Sam — Preceding unsigned comment added by WalterJKoch (talkcontribs)

You'll have to forgive my misconception. When a user named WalterJKoch writes an article about a person named Walter J. Koch, the natural assumption is that this is an autobiography. I would recommend that you change your username. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:30, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
PS -- since the school asked you to write about one of their professors, you have an obvious conflict of interest. Please read that guideline before continuing. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:31, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what a conflict of interest is. I do not know this man, and I have done independent research and called his previous schools and employment to confirm facts. I was asked by my school because they already have a few other famous professors exhibited on Wikipedia, and they knew I would complete a thoroughly unbiased article. I have been trying to change my username as you suggested but it seems like it will be a lengthy process, so at this point i don't know what else to do other than delete my account and start over. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WalterJKoch (talkcontribs) 01:13, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Point noted.[edit]

This is a second account as I have lost my previous accounts password. I take your point about waiting before marking for deletion and shall apply that to future moderation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lynctekrua (talkcontribs) 14:43, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

AC Fate[edit]

I dont understand why i cant create a page for this football club? — Preceding unsigned comment added by AC FATE (talkcontribs) 14:33, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@AC FATE: Because Wikipedia has criteria for inclusion. Not every club or amateur team gets to have a Wikipedia page. The specific policy that covers sports teams is WP:ORG, and it requires that any organization (including amateur football teams) must have been the topic of significant coverage in secondary sources. There is no evidence that your local club team meets this requirement. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:42, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Xiaodong Wang[edit]

I was not done writing the article why did you delete it??!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Columbiaeestudent (talkcontribs) 17:09, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't delete it. I tagged it for deletion. An administrator looked at it and agreed with my assessment, and so deleted it. Your article, as written, made no assertions that Wang is in any way notable. If you are not prepared to put up at least a minimal stub indicating why Wang is notable, than you should work on the article out of the main article space, at Draft:Xiaodong Wang or at User:Columbiaeestudent/Xiaodong Wang. There you will be able to develop the article as quickly or slowly as you like without the threat of deletion (unless your page violates a copyright or is blatantly promotional). WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:13, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But I said how he was notable because he is a professor at Columbia and even linked to his extensive publications!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Columbiaeestudent (talkcontribs) 17:18, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Columbiaeestudent: He is actually only an associate professor according to his bio at Columbia, but that is irrelevant, as are his extensive publications. You state in the latest version of the article that he is an ISI Highly Cited author. You'll need to provide verification of that. If his work is highly cited, that will show evidence that he has made a significant impact in his field, sufficient to allow the article to remain. For now, I have moved the article to Draft:Xiaodong Wang (electrical engineer). Work on it there until you've got all the facts and citations in place. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:22, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK thank you. sorry I am new to wiki!! I don't know what bio you are looking at but it must be out of date because he is a tenured full professor. So he might not be notable even though he's a professor at Columbia? where cna I learn the policies so it will not be deleted again!! thx Columbiaeestudent (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 17:26, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm looking at this page on the Columbia website. My confusion arose from the fact that it says he joined Columbia as an associate professor. It makes no mention of his receiving full professorship. Still irrelevant though: unless he holds a named chair at the university, we'll need other indications of notability. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:35, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
oh ok, I was looking at his homepage. but that page is good because it says he received awards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Columbiaeestudent (talkcontribs) 17:40, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have added some more information. Is it better now? Can you help me format it better like other articles Columbiaeestudent (talk) 17:58, 14 January 2015 (UTC) I can also ask him if I can take his picture because I think an article about a person should have a picture — Preceding unsigned comment added by Columbiaeestudent (talkcontribs) 17:59, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not yet. The sources you've added are primary sourcess: written by the subject himself. (Although published by others, Dr Wang likely provides the bio himself for his speaking engagements.) Wikipedia wants independent sources. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:51, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alliance Global Group (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Please stop following me, if you continue i'm going to report you for harassment. While I understand Wikipedia is a collective effort, simply undermining one editor is rude and counterproductive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lynctekrua (talkcontribs) 18:06, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lynctekrua: It would be rude and counterproductive if your edits were useful, and in many cases they are. But I have seen you to be a careless editor who sometimes abuses the editing privileges that you have been given and such edits require correction. You warn users who need no warning; you warn incorrectly (placing warnings on user pages rather than user talk pages); you claim yourself to be an administrator when you are not; you make edits that, rather than improving articles, make them less clear; you create templates that have no business existing. I think you should prefer my attention to your edits rather than the attention of the administrators. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 00:23, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited The Manitou School, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Algonquin. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I declined the A7 tag on this, as I believed there was enough information to go looking for sources. However, I don't think there's enough coverage out there so I've put the article up for AfD instead here. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:50, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Very well. I will leave it be until the protection date is over, at which point I will improve the original. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cydox (talkcontribs) 16:55, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Scotia Gas Networks[edit]

Hi Dan - thanks for your message. The content needed to be deleted for disambiguation following the company rebrand, as Scotia Gas Networks is not known by that name any more. The Wikipedia page was confusing customers and members of the public and also some of the information was out of date and misleading. There is a new page called "SGN (previously Scotia Gas Networks)" which is pending approval.Victoria.richardson (talk) 17:49, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Victoria.richardson: The proper thing to do when a company changes name is to move the page to the new name. Creating a new article and deleting the content from the old article throws out all of the attribution history, which is never a good thing at Wikipedia. Not a gas transporter![edit]

Thanks WikiDan61 - but SGN is a gas distribution company. A gas transporter is something different. I can't see any way to change that, are you able to do it please?Victoria.richardson (talk) 10:24, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Victoria.richardson: I only changed the name "Scotia Gas Networks" to "SGN" where appropriate. Whatever description existed about the company before I got there I left intact. If the description is wrong, you are free to fix it. You say you can't see any way to fix that: why not just edit the page to say what you think it should say? You don't need me to fix it for you. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:44, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. I didn't realise I could edit the disambiguation page, I thought it drew the description from the article. Sorted now. Thanks. Victoria.richardson (talk) 14:19, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help on a Wiki Article[edit]

Can you please protect the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universidad_Empresarial_de_Costa_Rica Or edit with the website www.unem.edu.pl as you already discussed in the talk page? I think it could be better to be protected or erased, since the war edit remains.Ramdiesel (talk) 16:58, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ramdiesel: I'm not an admin so no, I can't protect the page. I can have a look and see if there is anything I can do. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:58, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be grateful if you'd keep that page on your watchlist after the page protection ends, WikiDan, and perhaps intervene occasionally if you feel like it (I don't see any prospect of the bickering between them coming to a resolution). Thanks, regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:35, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your self-revert there. Could I suggest that you remove the jet-black "logo" of the "university" from your talk-page, per WP:LINKVIO? I've nominated it for deletion on Commons, as – as things stand – there's no indication that the uploader is the copyright holder. Thanks again, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:12, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think you're taking WP:LINKVIO too far in this case. That policy covers external websites. Presumably, if your deletion nomination of the logo is carried through, the image will disappear from my talk page, but in the meantime, I'm loathe to edit other users' talk page comments (even on my own talk page) unless there is a better reason. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:16, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Justlettersandnumbers: I've disengaged from this article. The number of users piling on with pages and pages of useless argumentation has worn down my patience. If other editors want to step in and take up the defense of Wikipedia guidelines, great. I can't do it alone. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:26, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My feelings exactly. Many thanks for your spell on deck there. What would be really good would be if the people who voted "keep" at AfD were to take an interest. Do you think an WP:SPI would get anywhere? - there seem to be a lot more accounts than there are voices. Thanks again, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:39, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Justlettersandnumbers: Might be worth a try. Multiple SPA editors ganging up on a talk page does have a sock-ish smell to it. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:58, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica[edit]

Can you let me know why the infobox has been reverted inside the article Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica? Ramdiesel (talk) 16:21, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ramdiesel: I'm not sure which revision you're talking about. The change you made was to add the English name of the university, but the template does not allow for such syntax. If the article had been created at the English translation (Business University of Costa Rica), then we could have in the template:
{{infobox university | name=Business University of Costa Rica | native_name=Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica | native_name_lang=[[Spanish language|Spanish]] | ... }}
but since the article lives at the Spanish language name of the University, the infobox should match that. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:36, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I was talking to your own edition you made and later you undo that edition... As far as been stated in the talk page, www.unem.edu.pl was recognized as accurate website.Ramdiesel (talk) 17:03, 3 February 2015 (UTC) Your edition "Restored website to infobox. It was lost in an edit that reverted vandalism, but the website had been added legitimately after a discussion on the talk page." has been undo! Ramdiesel (talk) 17:06, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ramdiesel: I based my acceptance of www.unem.edu.pl as the recognized website on the WHED source ([1]). At the time I made my comment accepting the .pl site as official, the WHED listed that site as the university's website. Since that time, the WHED listing has changed. Since the matter is still too fluid, I can no longer accept the .pl site as the official site, nor can I see any means by which any site can be verified as the official site, so I feel it best to omit this information at this time. Not that any of that is relevant (individuals listing UNEM on their resumes does not amount to a reliable source), but it is curious that many of the degrees you have listed fall outside of the degrees that UNEM is accredited to confer. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:16, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Chaldean Wikipedia Pages[edit]

I am from the Chaldean culture and I am a Chaldean. I have been a Chaldean my whole life. It is insulting to my ethnic culture that I need to discuss in a public discussion what my ethnic culture is and whether or not Chaldeans are Assyrians or Chaldeans. Who are you or who are Assyrians to come tell Chaldeans who we are?! That is very ethnically insulting and offensive. The sources cited on the Chaldean pages are from Assyrian sources (as in pieces written by Assyrian people). — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChaldeanEthnicity (talkcontribs) 20:01, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

When making your request, list the source that you believe will verify the change. Other editors will evaluate your requests and take appropriate action. SGN: Copyright question and a few others[edit]

Hi there - sorry to be thick but I'm not sure why the logo and map images have been removed as a copyright violation? I'm acting on behalf of the company and, in this capacity, I *am* the copyright holder able to grant permission for the images to be used. Is there a particular way of wording this permission to make it clear please?

Also I'm looking to include a little more information about what SGN actually does, as all the current entry says is that it was established in 2005 and was rebranded in 2014. I know self-promotional text is forbidden but I'm not sure why an explanation of lines of business and revenue sources is not allowed as long as it's objective? Again, just seeking guidance to try to make the entry more informative.

Interestingly, the rebrand description was not contributed by anyone within the company but (to me at least) it does read a little like a marketing release and I was hoping to scale this back and give more information about what the company does, in a neutral way.

I do appreciate your helpful comments about this and apologies for getting anything wrong.Victoria.richardson (talk) 17:01, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Victoria.richardson: It appears that you're talking about files that were deleted from Wikimedia Commons for lacking proper license information. The problem is that your claim here of being the copyright holder is not sufficient. (How are we to know that you're telling the truth? Wikipedia is essentially anonymous, after all.) You can upload a corporate logo to the English Wikipedia (but not to Wikimedia Commons) with the license tag {{Fair use logo}}. You'll have to follow the directions for the use of that template at its page. As for the map, there is no fair-use rationale for that, so you'd have to follow the guidelines at WP:Donating copyrighted materials. Understand that if you follow that route, you'll essentially be giving up rights to the image in question: others will be able to download the image and use if for any purpose they like.
As for your editorial content, you'll very likely need to provide reliable sources for any significant change you wish to make. I would imagine there was some significant press coverage of this rebranding effort; you should be able to cite that.
As a last note, the fact that you are acting on behalf of the company is a major conflict of interest. You should at the very least, make a note of that fact on your user page. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:36, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tony Wright[edit]

Hi WikiDan can you allow me more time to complete the Tony Wright page as I believe he is notable for several TV appearances, as an artist and musician beyond Terrorvision. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RedJulianG40 (talkcontribs) 16:32, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@RedJulianG40: You're free to revert my change. I would recommend that you place an {{under construction}} tag on the article to indicate that you are still in the process of exanding it. I would also recommend losing the bit about Wright's father as it's largely irrelevant to the article about Wright's career as a musician. @KenderLamno: I regret that when I gave you that advice, I neglected to mention that you would need to assure that your article on Niall Moran (runner) made some credible assertion of notability. Moran's statistics indicate that he is not an outstanding runner, and that he has not had any performances that would make him a national-level or Olympic-level athlete. @Gbengakvk: I don't have access to the deleted article, and I don't recall its contents, so I can't really respond as well to your question as I'd like. I nominated the article for speedy deletion because it did not make a credible assertion of notability. Not all companies get to be listed at Wikipedia; only those that have been the topic of significant coverage in reliable sources. If you think you can write an article about Kuvuki Stores that meets these criteria (claims notability and backs up the claim with legitimate sources), I suggest you write the article as a draft (at Draft:Kuvuki Stories), and then submit the article for review through the WP:AFC process. Stop putting my page on speedy deletion[edit]

Are u not even going to answer ?[edit]

Answer my question please — Preceding unsigned comment added by N1s2e (talkcontribs) 17:10, 13 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@N1s2e: I'm guessing you're asking about my tagging of Pure Pork for deletion. Your article had the appearance of blatantly incorrect information with indications of trying to add legitimacy by mentioning some random authority. Apparently the admin who deleted the page agreed with me. If there is designation of "Pure Pork" used by some industry organization or regulatory body, you'll need to provide valid sources to verify that. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:46, 13 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
PS: The fact that your local market advertises its products as "pure pork" is not sufficient to create an article on the topic. There would need to be a national-level advertising campaign or a national-level regulatory designation to indicate that "Pure Pork" is anything more than just your local market's sales gimmick. Hi![edit]

Thanks for saying that some of my free work is hardly useful. Question: How could I do what you suggest without having to type it down hundreds of times? Greetings, --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 16:02, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@ExperiencedArticleFixer: You can type the edit summary once, copy it to your clipboard, and then paste it into the edit summary box after each page edit. OR, you can let the bots handle that type of simple fix and concentrate on making more meaningful corrections. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:05, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiDan61: Again, thanks for saying that my hard free work is not as meaningful as it could be. You have a great human touch. The problem is that I have the ndash in my clipboard, and I only know how to paste the last item copied... --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 16:09, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The ndash is available as a linked character on the bottom of the edit box (so you can click on the link to insert the character rather than having to paste it), so you don't need to retain that in your clipboard, leaving your clipboard free for a more meaningful edit summary. And as for me calling your free work not as meaningful as it could be, I'm sorry if that offended you. But as an editor with "tens of thousands of edits" to your credit, you should be aware that meaningful edit summaries are important. You should also be aware that there are bots running on Wikipedia to handle the little tasks like correcting which dashes are used in articles. Doing that type of work yourself doesn't really help the project all that significantly. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:18, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware of the things you point at. And I think you should be aware that contacting other editors that are doing needed work in hundreds of articles for hours each day for free, if not perfectly, only to complain about it, is not the proper way to handle things. --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 16:24, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@ExperiencedArticleFixer: If I see an editor perform an action that does not conform to the Wikipedia community consensus on how things should be done, I feel that it is important to point the problem out to the user. Although you feel you are being helpful with your edits, you are not being helpful with your edit summaries, so the extent of your helpfullness is limited. How do you suggest that I should go about pointing that out other than how I did? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:30, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my suggestion to you is to start with some little appreciation for the constructive work others do. Wikipedia was built on the shoulders of people working for free, and they don't usually like being told that what they're doing is not useful. I have wrote "Thanks for your work" dozens of times to different editors, I think that works. Also, I would suggest avoiding things like "Your work is not as meaningful as it could be", or "What you do could be done by a little program". That is very aggressive, and if it's useful for a bot to do it, then it's useful for a person to do it. Then, you could point up what could be improved or enhanced, while still acknowledging that what they are doing is useful. I'm going to implement the Edit summary you suggested, with the amendment that it's ndash, not mdash. --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 16:37, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@ExperiencedArticleFixer: I'm sorry. If I saw a person driving nails with their head, I'd point out to them that there are better tools for that job, and that their head could be put to better uses. I have tried to do the same with you. If you wish to continue driving nails with your head, please do so. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:46, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiDan61: Hehe, putting endashes is not as painful! I've wrote dozens of articles from scratch and copyedited thousands, but I also like simple tasks. But you are right in the efficiency issue. I'm working on my own bot right now. By in the meantime, it amuses me to replace dashes. So we have made peace. Cheers! --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 16:56, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cleary Gottlieb webpage skewed[edit]

Hello, WikiDan61. You have new messages at Charliepickny's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

I've been in conversation with C. Fred about this. I'm a legal reporter and found something preposterous last night. I noticed that out of all the major law firms, only cleary gottlieb has skewed and unfair accusations on its wiki page, highlighting arguments by all of its critics. Why is this published on wikipedia? I urge you to please make a comparison between the Cleary page and that of other law firms. You will see that something has gone terribly wrong.

I checked Cleary's peer firms and they don't cover any controversies. Please review the following Wikies: Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, Davis Polk & Wardwell, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, Cravath, Swaine & Moore, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, etc. NONE of these other firms have any sort of besmirching criticism or highlighting of critics the way the Cleary wiki does. The Cleary wiki is dominated by criticism and bad coverage, especially a long section on the Argentina case (if anything that should be its own page covering controversies regarding that case, but not a skewed expose on the Cleary website)

There are specific falsehoods in the coverage that I can detail but I'll give you two examples: The statements about BNPP are not correct. The DOJ did not name Cleary, only two unnamed people did. The 9/11 pro bono section cites Jihadwatch, hardly a trustable source. I can detail mistakes like this for hours. I think the best thing we can do is to make the Cleary page look like that of other law firms. In addition, if we want to keep the controversial coverage, we can add that in to the specific articles. For example, if we want to keep controversial coverage over the Argentina case, then we should add that into an article on the Argentina case, not the Cleary main page. Does that make sense?

Replied at Charliepickny's talk page. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:42, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cleary Gottlieb wiki[edit]

I think it is relevant if you cannot show ONE peer law firm that has similar coverage. Doesn't that tell you that something is off here? In any case, even if you don't agree, then we clearly have to initiate a serious conversation about the undue coverage of the cricism.

There are specific falsehoods in the coverage that I can detail but I'll give you two examples: The statements about BNPP are not correct. The DOJ did not name Cleary, only two unnamed people did. The 9/11 pro bono section cites Jihadwatch, hardly a source we can trust. I can detail mistakes like this for hours. I think the best thing we can do is to make the Cleary page look like that of other law firms and, in addition, to remain neutral and to keep the controversial coverage, we can add the criticism in to specific articles about those issues. For example, if we want to keep controversial coverage over the Argentina case, then we should add that into an article on the Argentina case, not the Cleary main page. Similarly, we can add the BNPP controversial information to the BNPP website. Does that make sense?

@Charliepickny: Absolutely, a conversation needs to be held. And the place to hold it is at Talk:Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. No conversation held anywhere else is going to matter. Not this one on my talk page. Not the conversation on your own talk page. Not the conversation you started on C. Fred's talk page. The only way to resolve the matter is to open a dialogue at the article's talk page, so that many readers and editors can take part. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:53, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Deletion of Coach Jerry Hardin[edit]

Please help me understand why the Coach Jerry Hardin article was deleted. There are many referenced notable achievements in the article Coach Jerry Hardin. Yet it seemed nothing I could add or omit made any difference. In fact, it appeared to actually speed up the deletion of the article. I am not promoting Jerry Hardin. I believe he is a notable person who has had remarkable military, athletic and business achievements that the general public would want to know about. Based on the information I wrote, do you see a path for me to include additional information, be more clear, or omit information to make the article relevent to wiki? I have never written an article for Wiki before and I'm trying to add good content, not junk. Thanks for any help you can give me. Sincerely, Chriscjb — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chriscjb (talkcontribs) 05:45, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Chriscjb: I don't have the text of the article to refer to so I have to work from memory, but as I recall, Hardin's career as a college basketball coach never amounted to more than head coach of a relatively minor college. The rest of his career amounts to managing a facility that happens to be used by the NBA for some relatively minor event that he personally has nothing to do with. In short, Hardin does not appear to meet the criteria for inclusion. The sources, as I recall, did not amount to significant coverage of Hardin. Again, this is my recollection, and you might have improved the article after I saw it. If you really think Hardin deserves an article, I suggest you create on in the Draft space (at Draft:Jerry Hardin (basketball coach)), and then submit the article through the articles for creation process. Speedy deletion declined: Vivaldi Partners Group[edit]

Hello WikiDan61. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Vivaldi Partners Group, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The CEO is notable enough for his own article, and the claim to have invented a notable phrase is credible enough for A7. Take to AfD if required. Thank you. GedUK  14:12, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Carol M. Swain[edit]

the material i removed from Carol Swain's page is not appropriate for an encyclopedia entry. why did you reinsert it? there are many more important things about swain that are not included in this profile, including the television program she currently produces and hosts. why cover a minor event rather than major career achievements or current career initiatives? makes no sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Minnie Katz (talkcontribs) 21:41, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Minnie Katz: I made it quite clear at your talk page why I restored the information: because its removal had already been reverted by two other users and therefore cannot be considered non-controversial. Since you have taken the steps to open a discussion at Talk:Carol M. Swain, I take it as resolved that you are following the proper course of action now. Carol Swain essay issues[edit]

@WikiDan61, you appear more concerned with process than content. Someone, and not me, is actively monitoring Swain's page and inserting and reinserting material that differs markedly in importance and relevance from the main purpose of the essay, which briefly documents Swain's academic career. The recent "controversy" at Vanderbilt is a very minor event that, IMO, doesn't merit coverage in an essay about an academic with a lengthy and visible career. In past years, outside of her teaching, Swain has started a conservative talk-format television program (for which she sells advertising) with an evangelical theme as a major venture--that is not included in her biography. She has engaged in what amounts to a PR campaign in the conservative media in opposition to a nondiscrimination policy Vanderbilt University, where she works, has for student organizations. Nothing about that appears in her essay, and that's a much more relevant "controversy" than the Islam opinion piece. I think the "Islam" portion of this essay is neither neutral nor balanced and that material added to her profile should be scrutinized by someone other than the Swain operatives who inserted the "Controversy" section, which was yesterday converted to "Views on Islam." I'm happy to bow out, but if you want to police Swain's page, you should also be policing the people who keep adding Swain-serving material, like the fact that she said "she doesn't feel safe on the Vanderbilt campus." That kind of content makes Wiki appear less than credible-which is obviously true. I don't know how to report self-promotional posts, but I suspect you do, and Swain's should be reported.Minnie Katz (talk) 21:15, 26 February 2015 (UTC) Minnie Katz (talk) 21:20, 26 February 2015 (UTC)Minnie Katz[reply]

@Minnie Katz: Yes, you have stated your dissatisfaction with the material about Swain's recent anti-Islam slip, but two separate editors disagreed with you about removing the material. So the way to proceed is to discuss the matter. If you would look at the talk page, you'll see that I agree with you that the material has been given undue weight. But the event is significant in her career as it has cast a pall over her continued tenure at Vanderbilt and, based on her statement that she no longer feels safe there, may well end her career there. Whether or not the material remains will be determined by the outcome of the discussion on that talk page, that you yourself started. It doesn't do any good to start the discussion if you're not going to allow it to continue to the end. And yes, in this particular case, I am more concerned with process than content because it is through the process of WP:CONSENSUS that we build an encyclopedia that is not biased in one direction or the other. You may win the day here and the material might get removed, but it won't happen without the proper discussion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:25, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiDan - Swain is a tenured professor at VU. This means she cannot be fired from her position there. There's also the questin of whether Swain's "feeling" of being unsafe is legitimate. The only threat she faces at Vanderbilt is that people will disagree with her views--which is what a university is about. The content her operatives are posting serves Swain's purpose of promoting a "controversy" that was minor and presenting Vanderbilt in a negative light--as a workplace that either can't or won't protect its faculty. That's not the case. The content is subjective and lends a false impression. The people who are inserting it are obviously biased. I'm new to Wiki and don't know how to police them, but someone should monitor edits on the Swain essay. Minnie Katz (talk) 21:57, 26 February 2015 (UTC)Minnie Katz[reply]

@Minnie Katz: I'm not suggesting that she would be fired (although you misunderstand the nature of tenure: tenured professors can be fired for cause); rather I'm suggesting that, given her discomfort about her present situation, she might choose to walk away. You are not assuming good faith by suggesting those who have added this material are doing so with ulterior motives. You are also stretching an argument past credulity to believe that this controversy serves Swain's purposes; I would think she'd rather see it go away. If you believe the content is inappropriate, discuss the matter at the article's talk page. Discussing the matter with me here serves no purpose. YOU CAN TALK WITH OUR LAWYERS[edit]

Dear Dan: For years, I have noted that no matter how many times the actual meaning of the Abandon Shipwreck Act is changed by inserting the wording from the Federal Register (actual wording and intended meaning), it is changed back to slander the Mel Fisher Organization. You, sir, are the one with the agenda. Your (or someone you agree with) "opinions" intentionally slander our company and insinuate that we have "looted" two wrecks. These wrecks were granted to us by a USDC Judge and the Mel Fisher Organization is considered one of the best keepers of the integrity of our business by more than one Federal Judge over the past 30 years. You can deal with our lawyers from here on in if the company is misaligned further - and Wikipedia will also be included if these "opinions" are not removed ASAP. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JOE SWEENEY 1961 (talkcontribs) 17:33, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
