Yeah, DYK's a lot of fun, but the first few times all the various rules and viewpoints can feel pretty arcane. The reason I like it is that you get so many new eyes on an article while you're going through the process. And of course it's fun to see the spike in views on the day it appears, although unfortunately just now DYK is on a 12-hour rotation, so articles are only appearing for half as long. The article is looking great, by the way -- you have really done a lot of work! Isn't it fun when you discover a missing subject and you're researching along thinking, "There's tons here! Yes, human knowledge has few limitations, but people do have severe time limitations! I've noticed that Prep area 5 has been cleared, and I'm utterly clueless as to how "queues" and "prep areas" relate". I don't want a full explanation, but is there a place to follow developments of this particular article's path from here forward? If you go to Template:Did you know/Queue and scroll down slightly, you'll see a schedule of when each queue is due to appear. Warming stripes is in Queue 5, which is due to appear at 00:00 UTC on August 16, so basically midnight to noon UTC that day. After it appears, a notification will be placed on the talk page with a link to page views, which generally takes a day to update, but once it does you'll be able to see the jump in page views caused by the DYK appearance. --valereee (talk) 17:58, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

General Updates
WikiProject Cleveland Museum of Art — Kevin (SuperHamster) and Maria (Rimmel.Edits) have been collaborating with Neal Stimler and the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) to launch WikiProject Cleveland Museum of Art on the English Wikipedia! Back in January, the CMA announced its conversion into an Open Access institution—and part of this initiative included the upload of thousands of photos and Wikidata items on CMA artworks. This WikiProject has been created to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to the CMA, such as artworks and artists featured in the Museum's collections, while being able to leverage the great resources that have been released into the public domain. If you'd like to join in, please sign up to be a member here. We have an expanding list of articles to create here.

Upcoming and Ongoing Events
Wiki Loves Monuments is back in the United States for 2019. Through the end of September, upload your photos of registered historical sites to the Commons to help document our history and illustrate Wikipedia - and have a shot at winning the national contest. In April, two edit-a-thons were hosted at the Ohio State University:
The Female and Under-represented Language Scientists edit-a-thon, hosted by the Hispanic Linguistic Colloquium in collaboration with the Buckeye Language Network (BLN) Student Association. The goal of the event was to improve articles on under-represented language scientists. 11 editors contributed 50+ edits that consisted of 1.54k words across 24 articles, including one new article.
The Spanish & Portuguese Edit-A-Thon, hosted by students from the Spanish and Portuguese department (Dona pipoca and Caesarologia, with support from SuperHamster). The edit-a-thon focused on expanding coverage of Spanish and Portuguese topics on the English Wikipedia, primarily by translating articles from Spanish/Portuguese to English. In doing so, attendees sharpened their Spanish/Portuguese skills, gained experience editing Wikipedia, and learned about new topics. 23 editors contributed 180+ edits that consisted of 15.8k words across 70 articles, including four new articles.
Wikimania 2019 took place in Stockholm this year, with several Ohio Wikimedians attending. If you're interested in some of the sessions, many of them were recorded and are available on the Commons here.

Editors using the mobile website on Wikipedia can opt-in to new advanced features via your settings page. This will give access to more interface links, special pages, and tools.
The advanced version of the edit review pages (recent changes, watchlist, and related changes) now includes two new filters. These filters are for "All contents" and "All discussions". They will filter the view to just those namespaces.
A global request for comment is in progress regarding whether a user group should be created that could modify edit filters across all public Wikimedia wikis.

Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

This month's refresher course
Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.
Deletion tags
Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.
Paid editing
Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
Not English
A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
Tools
Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.
Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.
Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

Man schälet die Aepfel und nimmt ihnen mit einem Griebsbohrer das Gehäuse, und füllet das gemachte Loch mit Quitten- oder Pomoranzen-Marmelade, oder auch, nach Belieben, bloß mit Zucker aus. Alsdann nimmt man ein Stückchen Teig, machet ein Loch darin, leget den Apfel hinein, setzet ein anderes Stückchen Teig in gleicher Form oben darauf und schließet auf der Seite rings herum den Apfel damit ein. Man thut die Aepfel darauf in siedend heisses, über dem Feuer stehendes Wasser , und so werden sie in drey Viertelstunden gut seyn. Hernach gießet man zerlassene Butter darauf und richtet sie an.
Auf eine andre Art. Man schält hierzu säuerliche Aepfel, hackt selbige klein und röstet sie ein wenig in Schmalz; stößt eine Anzahl geschälte Mandeln und feuchtet sie mit süßem Rahm an, aber nicht zu viel. Es wird darunter noch hinlängliches Semmelmehl gemischt, und mit Eyern zu einer gehörigen Stärke angerührt. Man thut auch kleine Rosinen, Zimmet und Zucker darein, macht runde kleine Klöße daraus, kehrt sie gut in feinem Mehle um, und läßt sie in Schmalz backen. My translator (not google) offers this:
Apple dumplings, or little puddings of apples. Peel the apples and remove the casing with a greed borer, and fill the hole with quince or pomorence jam, or if you like, just sugar. Then take a piece of dough, make a hole in it, put the apple in it, put another piece of dough in the same shape on top and close the apple on the side around it with it. Put the apples on it in boiling water over the fire and they will be good in three quarters of a minute. Then pour melted butter on it and arrange it.
In another way. Peel sour apples, chop them into small pieces and roast them a little in lard; toast a number of peeled almonds and moisten them with sweet cream, but not too much. Mix in enough breadcrumbs and mix with eggs to a proper starch. They also add small raisins, cinnamon and sugar, make small round dumplings of them, turn them into fine flours, and let them bake in lard. Finally make a sweet broth over it with large and small raisins, sugar, cinnamon and wine, and let the dumplings boil in it for a little while.

Well, your book does describe two separate dishes. One is a cored apple filled with marmalade, wrapped with pastry and then boiled. The second one is as follows:
Another method. Peel fairly sour apples, chop them into small pieces, roast them in a pan with a little lard, crush some peeled almonds and moisten them with sweet cream, but not too much. Mix in sufficient breadcrumbs and stir with eggs to the right consistency. One also adds small raisins, cinnamon and sugar, forms small round dumplings, covers them in fine flour and deep fries them in lard. Finally one covers them with a sweet broth containing large and small raisins, sugar, cinnamon and wine, and lets the dumplings boil for a short time.

Gerda Arendt, Gehäuse here is surely short for Kerngehäuse, core, and doesn’t mean casing. I am puzzled by Griebsbohrer, perhaps a tool for taking the core out of fruit? No idea what a Grieb or Griebs is, but “greed borer” doesn’t mean anything! Moonraker (talk) 22:06, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

For my own education I would like to know why the statement "The Rangerettes have performed on four continents, in twelve foreign countries, twenty-three states, and Washington D.C." is considered promotional-sounding content, but none of the very similar content in the same paragraph is considered promotional. PhillyHarold The source is their own website. What we want to see is someone else talking about this stuff, or Wikipedia doesn't consider it noteworthy enough to include in the article. I have these kinds of concerns about the whole article, that it's including stuff that no one else is talking about. There are 65 individual references in the article, 13 of which are either the Rangerette's website, or the website of Kilgore College, so 52 references in the article are all external to the organization and college which should qualify for someone else. PhillyHarold No worries at all about forgetting to sign, it's easy to do! That bot comes along and signs for you, most of the time, and leaves that message. At the bottom of the editing box on talk pages, there's a 'Sign your posts on talk pages:' with four clickable tildes next to it; click on those and it'll automatically sign for you. Using four tildes makes your name clickable to your user page, as a convenience to other editors.
In my opinion, yes, we'd want to see as many of those references as possible replaced. It's not that we necessarily think they're incorrect about the facts, it's just that if they're the only ones mentioning something, it may not be appropriate for inclusion in the article. Only for information that is important to the article and not mentioned anywhere else would I want to see us using it. For instance, if the only place you could find the exact date it started -- say everyone else is saying she started it in 1939 but the website says December 1, 1939 -- you could use the organization's website. That's information arguably important to the article and not likely to be controversial. But things like the names of assistant choreographers should be cited to other sources, because those sources mentioning the information is what tells us it's important enough to include. If literally no one else is mentioning those names, they're unfortunately probably trivia. When I saw Template:Did you know nominations/Anne Boutiaut Poulard, I was amused to think that, somewhere along its journey to the Main Page, someone or other is likely to cite WP:EGG regarding the piping of "Anne Boutiaut Poulard" to "omelette". (Maybe I have a low threshold for amusement.) Anyways, what I mostly came here for was that I noticed an identical sentence twice in the article: the first sentence (paragraph) in the Omelette section also appears in the Career section. Following a discussion, a new criterion for speedy category renaming was added: C2F: One eponymous article, which applies if the category contains only an eponymous article or media file, provided that the category has not otherwise been emptied shortly before the nomination. The default outcome is an upmerge to the parent categories.

re I didn't glom that until I'd started setting preps myself.: I'd never seen or heard the word "glom" before, so I had to look it up. From the Scots dialect glaum it seems. Kudos. Not that it's unusual for me to come across a new word (especially with the newer youth speech like whatev), but such a short word I've never seen or heard of before really caught my eye. Oh, interesting -- I think this is a word that has been in use since my young adulthood in the area I grew up to indicate "catch on" as in "I caught onto the idea."
